when we told them police think they got the guy. >> i'm glad they did because it gets me a little more sleep at nighttime. >> reporter: can't blame charly for being away. that was the morning the suspect hit half a dozen neighbors and police think tried to get into charlie's home stopped by a good look on a back door. >> it is locked. >> good thing. >> fortunate for him. he would have left here in a body bag. >> reporter: police caught him redhanded after a tip to police led to surveillance. >> gathered enough evidence to place him under arrest for burglarizing a house. >> he reached in and took out my son-in-law's cooking knife. >> reporter: police worried eventually someone would get hurt. >> and if i could dance in the street i would. i am so pleased about this. >> reporter: police may have

ended a crime spree and maybe started a movie. the surveillance was extraordinary this week. montgomery county cops were hiding in the hoods in the middle of the night watching the suspect go running around homes. they are extraordinaryly happy this is over. he is being held on $425,000 bond. no charges yet in virginia but, derek and anita, they are coming. >> gary neurenberg. thank you. an update on a deadly shooting. army police officer accused of shooting bear-bear. this husky will not be spending anytime behind bars. keith sheppard was sentenced to probation. he said he shot the dog after he thought the dog would go after him and his wife. he was charged with animal cruelty and firing his gun near homes. even john leopold called for an

investigation. second in command off the job for now. it is not a vacation. the chief says the move comes as investigators look into allegations that grooms may have helped some members of the command staff cheat on a service training test. the department of internal affairs is looking into the case. a new test will be developed. we made several calls but the department would not speak to us on camera. >> after three days of deliberations the jurors in the chanda levy case. prosecutors say it is relevant because under one of the murder counts jurors must find she was assaulted to obtain a first

degree murder conviction. this case has made headlines after she was romantically linked to gary condit. $5 million. that's how much a woman is suing a cab company for after she says a driver stranded ner a dangerous neighborhood where she was attacked. this happened two years ago. the woman tried to pay with her credit card but the driver said it didn't go through, she didn't have cash. he drove her to an a.t.m. which was not working and he says he forced her out of the cab. on her walk home she says a man stopped her, claimed he had a gun and sexually assaulted her. that man, james samuel williams has just been sentenced to life in prison for numerous sexual offences. >> when you get into a cab you are thinking that you will safely reach wherever you are thinking you will get to and being left on the street is probably not what you signed up for. >> the cab company's manager would not answer questions upon the advice of an attorney.

tonight three accused in a string of car vandalism cases is sitting behind bars. an adult and two 16 year olds targeted as many as 250 vehicles since this august. they say the three would use a bb gun to damage windshields. the adult is from glendale, maryland. >> it has a great impact on people's everyday lives. and there is absolutely no execution for this type of behavior from our young people. and our fear was this was going to graduate into a more serious path of destructive behavior that may eventually involve persons. we had two people who were struck by projectiles during this crime spree. >> luckily the two victims weren't hurt. they are accused of shooting out the glass at bus stops as well. we just checked. no word yet on what caused that massive fire that sent folks running for safety. you saw this story first at

late breaking news last night at 11:00 p.m. tonight, three people are still recovering from smoke inhalation after flames ripped through a north west dc building on kennedy street. six people had to be rescued from that building. the two-story building houses a church and apartments. now, we also checked on the woman hurt in another fire early this morning at a home on loray place in the north west. the house was already engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. a woman was trapped in there and firefighters were able to get her out but she suffered burns and other critical injuries. the cause of the fire, unknown. >> a treatment that smooths out wrinkles has the government okay as a type of migraine relief. botox helps with nerves. doctors soon discovered that muscle relaxation cuts down on migraines people get and intensity of the pain. >> i was able to function much

fairfax animal control officers seized more than 110 cats from a home in anondale. workers took the cats from the 7100 block of village drive and say the living conditions and air quality was poor in the home. plus 45% of the cats were sick. they had an upper respiratory infection. owners have been served with an

unsafe homeowner citation and the house has been condemned. a push to get rid of tsa in airports. the transportation security administration costs $7 billion a year and it is going too far. he is now asking that the nation's biggest airports fire the government and hire private security contractors instead. the same way things worked before 9/11. we have learned that bwi is considering this plan but no word yet if officials will move forward. the san francisco airport is the only one currently using private security contractors. back to fancy scanners and intrusive pat downs. is the tsa going too far. >> are they just trying to keep us safe. >> reporter: go to the scan, get on the plane and avoid anything like -- well, this here. except now we hear folks are getting those invasive pat downs whenever that scanner sees anything unusual. a tissue in your pocket, a hair

pin. anything. the new york times quoted one woman who said she can now look forward to a pat down experience every time she flies because she has an insulin pump for her diabetes. the director is not helping by refusing to get specific about the pat down policy except to say it won't be changing. contrary to popular belief it is not just the attention seekers upset about this. the electronic privacy foundation filed a lawsuit as have two airline pilots. we all want to be safe. but what good is this powerful new scanner if all it does is ensure that more of us have to endure the full monty. four out of five approve but i'm betting most of them have not been on an airplane lately. the holiday season can be extremely stressful for a lot of us with the added demands of family reunions, house guests shopping and parties. but a local man developed a
