on virginia's lawsuit challenging the federal health care act. they are challenging it that they buy insurance or pay a penalty. virginia filed a lawsuit challenging the law. vincent gray is expected to keep chief lanier when he takes office. according to sources gray will also announce his public safety director and a new fire chief. kenneth elserby from florida and former dc fire official is a leading candidate for the job here. the man accused of attempting to set off a car bomb outside of a military recruiting office just outside of baltimore is due in court later today. 21-year-old antonio martinez, known as mohammad hussein is scheduled to appear in baltimore for a preliminary hearing. he's accused of attempting to

detonate a fake bomb provided by an undercover fbi agent. he faces life in prison if convicted. parts of the upper midwest are digging out after a big snowstorm this weekend. >> the nasty system shut down highways, grounded flights and caused part of the minnesota vikings stadium to collapse. minneapolis was walloped with 17 inches of snow that proved too heavy for the metrodome's roof. the vikings game was moved to tonight and it will take place in detroit. weather problems are hitting parts of washington state. record rainfall is triggering mudslides an causing major flooding. forecasters predict it will begin to subside this morning. just when you thought it wasn't possible, the redskins have found a new way to lose a game. >> that's too sad. 4 minutes left in the game and the redskins led 10-9. then tampa quarterback freeman hit

good morning. welcome back to 9 news now. it is 4:45. we have a winter weather advisory coming to you, courtesy of tom sater. >> i have nothing better to do. >> do we need our boots? >> no. if you are standing by the bus, maybe. and tell the kids to stay back away from tremendous roads because it is slick out in some areas. just play it safe. chilly and cold. ready for another week? we have to go back to the first day of december to find

temperatures above average. since the first it has been unseasonably cold and will get colder this week than last week. run through a number of things for you. we have snowfall on the live doppler 9000 hd. it is light snow. the intensity is not great, but it's enough to dust some roadways, grassy areas, porches, decks, things like that. the back edge made its way through warrenton making its way through lees bug now. it is drifting from the southwest to the northeast. again, it will continue to move across the metro area and it will cause some problems this morning. the best news i can tell you is that in some cases, in some cases, the temperature on the gund may be just above freezing. you start to get traffic on top of that and we will have slick spots and black ice. more on that in a minute. bus stop forecast for the kids outside, you have to keep them bundled up. the winds picking up in excess of 20 miles an hour. it will be a cold in, windy

couple of days. temperature may try to rebound a bit but you can see this is a winter weather advisory, just be advised winter precipitation light, not a major tomorrow. that moved east of us and will be with us until 9:00 a.m. this is a winter storm warnings. again the mountain areas of potomac high lands, allegheny will see heavy accumulation. we have are at 37. i want to show you the region. when you factor the winds that are blowing, already teens in cumberland. we will find teens in our area. higher terrains will have single digit wind chills much like pittsburgh and cleveland. heavy amounts of snow moved in to the upper mel, minneapolis 18 to 24 inches. chicago had over 1,000 flights cancelled. the lake affect snow machine will kick up in full force this week where they will measure the snow by feet. again, from around erie to buffalo, cleveland, too. you can see the back edge of

the precipitation now is sliding in to the area. what you see to the west in west virginia will stay there. after this little batch moves through, it's possible we will have a few flurries throughout the day and even this evening. tomorrow it is possible. if enough moisture get over the mountain you could encounter a burst where it looks like five to ten minutes it's coming down. just like this morning but in most cases this morning's snowfall will be more intense than anything in the next couple of days. use caution but you can see how the computer models want to toss a little moisture trying to streak in on the heels of northwesterly winds. i think the bigger news are the winds and the temperatures. average of 8 for the high. we are not going to see it the next several days. 30 for a high tomorrow. we will be in the teens at night and with the winds blowing single digit wind chills in a few spots. up to freezing on wednesday and just above that on thursday.
