howard, your turn. >> there will be areas that don't have theys in montgomery, howard and prince georges county. we have slick streets due to the snow band that's been persistent the last couple of hours. coming down 270, you will see it there. frederick to urbana to clarksburg. eastern montgomery on the border with howard county. this is drifting to clarksville. glen elk may get in on this right now it is west of you and laurel, this is the heaviest snow we are watching this morning. i anticipate we will have some snow covered streets. you see it north and east of bowie almost at 301. watch for that. temperatures in the teens and low 20s now. top out near 30 this afternoon. it is 6:00 a.m. here's monica. some slick streets out there. >> we say the affects of that, especially on 270 where there was an accident at route 109. we will take you there. the accident is cleared now and delays are getting better. may not look like it here but

it is a 15-minute ride from 80 in urbana past 10 t which is an improvement on 270. once you are beyond this, you are moving well this though rockville. take you to upper marlboro. an accident at brook lane and brown station road. you want to be aware of that. authorities are heading that way. look at the district. the district roads have been looking good. this is a live look at south capitol street at the suitland parkway. no problems here. take you over to 395 northbound. on the brakes from duke to seminary road and then a bit across the 14th street bridge. but you will be okay along 395. look at 66 slowing down in centreville around 28 and then again in fair oaks at route 50. coming up, another look at the district roads. a closer look at the slick road conditions this morning. >> kristin fisher is live in maryland. what's it like there this morning, besides having very cold. >> well, you know, andrea, i

think our perceptions about what constitutes a lot of snowfall has been warped after last year's massive amount of snowfall, snowmageddon as we have come to call it. i'm standing out here along 495, the 95 interchange in college park. we have only gotten a quarter inch of snow, a half inch maybe. but, you know, you know how dc drivers can be. that hasn't stopped them from getting in to quite a few accidents already along the beltway this morning. look at this video and you'll see what i'm talking able. we spotted to two accidents driving here. the first on the outer loop at connecticut. the driver appeared to be okay, thank goodness but can't say the same for his car. and then another accident on the inner loop at colesville road. the truck driver saw a van that had spun out and the driver slowed down and put on his hazards and he got slammed from behind. the drive of that car that hit

him, that woman was taken to the hospital complaining of chest pains. as for the truck driver, he has been driving trucks for 30 years and take a listen to how he described the driven conditions this morning in the dc area. >> they are not real bad, as long as people drive considering you have got snow on the gund and it's freezing cold. so any snow buildup will be icy. but i mean it's not impassable. i have driven in a whole lot worse. >> yeah, we've seen a lot worse but you know the morning commute will be a little more treacherous. certainly slower than your average day where there isn't a ton of know. you can see this is 495 outbound. looking good right now. not in the heart of the morning rush but so far it seems the drivers are doing a good job slowing down. my fate piece of advice from the truck driver you heard, and

another pedestrian was struck in another crash, also on viers mill road. he suffered life-threatening injuries. a slots parlor in anne arundel county, maryland, could open by next year and it would go inside of a parking garage. last month, voters approved 4700 slot machines for a facility near the anne arundel mills mall in hanover. it will be the state's largest. until a permanent facility is built they plan to open a temporary facility. they did a similar approach in florida. before you head home, marc rail riders will have a chance to tell the bosses what they think. it is holding a meet the manager session at union station. heads of the transit system will moot riders tonight between 4:00 and 7:00. airlines are making millions from your bags. hundreds of jobs coming to our region and a dessert food recall, all at 6:06 in this

special report. a dessert company is calling for its product to be pulled from shelves it is the toe fewtti packages. they are pulled because mill seasoning not listed as an ingredient. they have a manufacturing code of 18497. 1900 jobs are coming to berkeley county, west virginia. macy's is building a distribution center along i-81 near martinsburg. it will fill internet orders for the eastern united states. construction will begin next spring. the center should be open by april of 2012. when it comes to charging you bag dee fees delta leads the way. it rakes in $259 million on bag fees alone. american finished sec, u.s. airways, counsel and united round out the top five. dozens of people spread holiday cheer on monday night

ice. it looks like the neighborhood and less traveled streets will cause more problems than the main arterial roads like the beltway and i-270. we have had crews out since just before 3:00 this morning to monitor the roadways and treat as we needed to. >> reporter: how many crews do you have out there? this isn't the big storm like last year. >> absolutely. we don't have the same amount of crews as last year because this is a dusting compared to last year. so we have 2 a to 25 crews out treating and monitoring and making sure that we get on top of the trouble spots before anything happens. >> reporter: how are the bridges and overpasses. do you imagine them to be slick? >> bridges and overpasses are obviously elevated roadways so they build freeze first and that's with we concentrate a lot of efforts to prevent anything from happening on the bridges and overpasses and they have been treated fairly well. haven't had problems of problems but we will monitor

one snow band we have been watching since late last night through fright now that is moving southeast from areas in frederick county. frederick is almost clear. southern frederick seeing a it will bit of it. near the border, around the laurel area is what we are watching. switch over to live doppler 9000 hd because you folks are seeing the snow. moderate here. this is laurel, this is bowie. to the north on the county line with anne arundel and prince georges, extending to the county line with howard and montgomery county. and then lighter snows back where it had been snowing moderately in clarksburg and germantown to the south side of damascus. north of gaithersburg. this is where we picked up a half an inch to an inch of accumulation. it has been blowing around due to the wind. we will go up to urbana where it is snowing and southern frederick. a lot lighter now. we don't see the blues like the

delay. howard bernstein has the forecast. the skies had cleared and individuals improved but we still have snow around east of town. get you going with a look at the day planner for this tuesday. we have temperatures which will struggle today. only to 30 by 3:00 with some snow showers and flurries possible through midday and brisk northwest to westerly winds at times gusting to 40 miles an hour. the snow showers and flurries have been across frederick, montgomery county, down through portions and anne arundel. and on live doppler 9000 hd, you can really see the lighter snows now. much lighter from damascus to olney but clarksville to laurel to bowie right now. that's the heaviest we have got and we will be watching that carefully as it will cause problems with slick streets. but really around the laurel area along the county line with

debris on the road at new hampshire avenue on the left side of the road but delays are basically from new hampshire avenue don'ting in toward silver spring. let's take you over to the other side of town. this time in virginia. on the inner loop looks okay from braddock to 6 on the outer loop a disabled vehicle is reported after braddock road and that's in the roadway. now let's take you to 395. you have delays basically from edsall to seminary. activity here at the 14th street bridge. we will keep you posted on that situation. and in the next report we will look at maryland roads. the word from police this morning, is take it slow and easy on any slick roads. >> kristin fisher is live on i- 95 in maryland. what are things like out there? >> we are starting to see traffic pick up as we start to head to the heart of the morning rush. you can see this is 495 outer

loop near college park, maryland. you can see the traffic is moving pretty well. the main section of the roadway, those four -- let's see, we have at least four lanes that are fully clear, but it's those shoulders we are starting to see the snow pack up and if we walk this way. get to the other side. this is again 495, outer loop. you can see that traffic is really starting to stack up as you head closer in to dc. this main thing is of course those really little room to maneuver. the roadway is clear and we have seen a lot of salt and de- icing trucks. they are out in full force. main roadways are looking clear but getting more congested. come down this way and you can see this is a bridge over the 495 outer loop. you can see that these roads, these side roads. that's where we are starting to see a lot of snow stack up. it is pretty icy down here. so certainly something you want

don't fix it in time. we expect a full vote in the senate on the tax cut plan worked out by president obama and the republicans. they allowed it to come up for an official vote. it means it is likely to pass. it would extend the bush-era tax cuts for two years, extend unemployment benefit and create a one-year payroll tax cut. if approved by the senate it faces a tough fight in the house. president obama says he is not disappointed by the ruling this in the federal judge in richmond. the case was brought by virginia attorney general who is a republican. he said that congress overstepped its bound by requiring all americans have to health insurance. the judge in the case agreed with that. >> the way i would say it this case is not about health insurance or health care. it's about liberty. and the judge said as much in

of 198 and that is blocking the left lanes. southbound side is not affected as you head to the outer loop. the outer loop is crawling from new hampshire avenue all the way to georgia avenue and now a wreck reported on the inner loop of the beltway at old georgetown road. that is on the right shoulder. go up to 270. that's been a tough one this morning. right now the delays are basically from 80 to 109 and 20- minute ride from pearl hurley boulevard in to rockville and to the point where the lanes divide. go to virginia and a live look at 66. delays on 66, route 50 to 123 and an accident is reported at nutley street. we will keep you posted on that one. go to 395. an accident here,ly step out of the way on the 14th street bridge. that is on the right side of the roadway. be careful as you head north to the bridge span. coming up, we will talk about the big incidents in in the area. as we have been telling you and as monica has been saying

it is slick on the roads this morning. >> joining us on the phone is john lyle. good morning. he is with the dc department of transportation. >> we have been hearing the trouble spots are mainly in many and parts of virginia. what about the district? are you seeing problem spots or did you come off easy in this one? >> there were definitely slick spots ored to us but so far our traffic pattern very quiet. that's a good sign because that means there aren't a lot of accidents or there isn't a lot of incidents on the roadways. that's a good sign. there are some slick spots and we have 40 trucks out on the roads. we did before 6:00 and we will mobilize some more. so we have trucks on the roads to treat them an we are trying to get to the spots we are aware of where there are some slick conditions, but again no accidents yet we would encourage people to be careful out there. >> any trouble with the winds

out there as far as tree branches you have heard of or things blowing in to the roadway? >> not yet. when there are high winds it is always a possibility but i haven't heard a warning 0 tree down, at least not in the roadways or impacting the traffic. that's a good sign but that obviously can happen. that often happens when we get rain or when the ground is saturated an we have high winds. that can really make the trees unstable and so far so good. >> reporter: all right. that's good to hear. john lyle with the dc department of transportation. we are following breaking news right now out of baltimore. our partners at w jay-z television report five people are dead in a house fire. the two-alarm fire began at 5:30 this morning on homewood avenue. right now we don't now anything about the victims or how the fire started. we will have more on the story at noon. again, our partners at w jay-z

coming up on 6:58. a little flurry and snow shower activity. north and east of washington but this is a lot less intense than a couple of hours ago. watch for the slick spots and few school delays that are scrolling on the bottom of the screen right now. we are watching another system that will be here on thursday but it will slide south. the key is the wind and cold. only 30. gusts at times to 40 miles an hour wind advisory until 10:00 p.m. and we also have some wind chill single digit and teens most of the day. tomorrow 32. still, on the breezy side. by thursday, system slides south, 36. looks like saturday night, sunday maybe a little snow. we will watch that one. it could bring accumulation and then cold and windy on sunday and monday. >> northbound 395 at the 14th street bridge. police activity on the right side with delays beginning at the pentagon. look at 66. it slows 50 to 123 and disabled on the left shoulder and a beltway accident on the inner loop at old georgetown road. it's in the right lane.
