progress of snowplows in your neighborhood. here is how the transportation department explained. >> if you're sitting home in a cul-de-sac and trying to make an informed decision of whether you should go to the airport or head to new york you can now look at our map at the progress we are going to show. you can type in your own address to start. the map features a key telling you if a particular street is clear. plowing is in progress or the street is untouched. there is a link to any one of the county's nearly 200 traffic cameras. >> so this places us in a very, very accountable position. >> wind gusts. still howling. wind advisory has been canceled. winds are still gusting to 25 downtown. 25 miles per hour wind gusts in gaithersburg and a 33 miles per

the family of raymond brown. 24-year-old jamal alex sister of landover has been sentenced to 140 years in jail. alex sister was convicted in october of killing raymond brown four years ago. alex sister was stealing the car when the victim confronted him and they say the suspect may have also put out a hit on two key witnesses in the case against him. a gas station attendant fights back when two men tried to rob him. the clerk who doesn't want to be identified says two men opened the door to his car and tased him in the arm. the clerk pulled a gun. >> my hope is that there are more armed citizens out there and something like this can be prevented in the future. >> the clerk believes he shot at least one of the robbers. both ran away. >> get ready for another round in the immigration debate. this time a lawmaker in virginia is spearheading a push that would ban undocumented

immigrants from being admitted to public colleges in virginia. 9 news now reporter with more. >> reporter: it is college campuses like this one at george mason university where the immigration debate will soon take center stage. that's because virginia delegate chris piece is looking to pass a law that would keep undocumented immigrants from attending public colleges in that state. >> if this bill were to pass i would not be able to attend school in virginia. >> reporter: that's because the 24-year-old student undocumented. she was protesting legislation that would keep students like her from going to school. >> we are very dedicated and are willing to do everything it takes. >> reporter: school officials here say they prefer to be able to pick their students not based on their immigration status but rather on the way they perform when they hit the books. >> we don't consider citizenship or immigration status in our admission process. we are asking which students

construction is not going to be affected because of budgeting but others could be in danger. construction will be decided on a case by case basis depending on the money available. members of the dc council today voted on a big issue concerning the long time moratorium on alcohol licenses in georgetown. here is a council member, jim graham. >> what we have done is accepted the recommendations really of the georgetown community to extend the moratorium on alcohol licenses in georgetown but also permit a license for beer and wine and one new license for something like a theater that could be serving beer and wine as part of a performance. >> again, as you just heard councilman graham says the georgetown community supports keeping that moratorium going. it captured national

britney's story on cnn. her 44-year-old mother was found dead. easley is suspected in her murder. he agreed to waive extradition today. this story has been getting lots of interest on our web page and facebook page. a fake doctor busted after 15 years of fraud. 58-year-old william hammond passed himself off as a doctor and lined up millions of dollars in research grants and salaries for training medical staff. yet he never treated patients. that's why one staffer finally became suspicious. after running a background check they found out he is a phony. no word though on charges though because the irony is the law doesn't require him to have a degree to conduct research and be paid for it. tonight an army doctor faces up to 18 months in prison. lieutenant colonel terrence lincoln dissipated orders to

deploy to afghanistan he said because he questioned president obama's citizen status. he pleaded guilty to two charges against him at a court martial proceeding that happened today in maryland. in addition to prison time he could be kicked out of the army if found guilty. the latest on the arctic air that has engulfed our area. topper has all the details on the temps that keep dropping and whether there is more snow coming our way. but first michael steel where he is running for office. we will tell you that next. gold be globe nominees reruled.

update on the the murder of promising fashion design are silvie cachey. she grew up in mclean. bruce leshan talked with some of the mourners. >> reporter: on a cold blustery day outside a funeral home in vienna scores of mourners gathered to remember the life of a young woman who succeeded in the rare world of new york fashion design. >> i think it is a horrible tragedy. i knew her since she was 12 years old and she had a very bright future in front of her and it is just a terrible end. >> reporter: police arrested her boyfriend of just five months and charged him with strangling her. staff at the important soho house hotel found her dead half clothed in an overflowing bat

farming runs deep in her roots. >> this was my family's farm and my dad had no boys. so i took over the farm when i came home from college. >> she is the eighth generation to own this scenic 320-acre waterfront farmland. >> all our value is tied up in our land and our land is what our business is based on. >> reporter: weld is planning on passing the farm on to her 22-year-old son and that is where most of her worries begin. under the current estate tax law next year estater states worth more than $1 million would be taxed at 5%. >> we would not have the cash money to pay the tax. we would either have to mortgage the property or we would have to take a bank loan which would work against us in borrowing money for production on the farm. >> reporter: but under the new tax plan the president hashed out with congressional republicans individuals would

be able to pass on $5 million in assets tax free. anything over that would be taxed at 35%. house democrats say that is too general russ and favor a 45% tax rates for estates worth more than 3. 5 million. the difference in revenue between the two plans is only roughly $7 billion. >> i think that the fight is largely symbolic. even in revenue terms it is pretty small as a proportion of the bill. the estate tax falls mostly on welty people. that means it benefits the richest americans. >> reporter: weld says her farm would be exempt under the president's plan but would be hit under the democrats proposal and she says don't call her wealthy. >> what kind of figures are we talking about? we can make as much as $300,000 gross here but we probably take home closer to between 80 and 100,000 and that's my husband and i both working together. >> reporter: but she says

tomorrow morning, partly cloudy. windy. very cold. windchills in the single digits for the kids at the bus stop. teens, 20s again. now, by afternoon partly cloudy, breezy and cold. take the winds down a notch. windchill still holding in the teens though. highs struggling to get to the freezing mark. that's an improvement compared to today when we hit 28 and winds westerly gusty. next three days windy and cold on wednesday. little bit of light snow on thursday. not a big storm but as we know from the snow showers yesterday doesn't take much in terms of impact. we could have an impact on the thursday evening commute. chilly on friday but dry back to the low 40s. next seven days. clouds come in very quickly on saturday. light snow possible. saturday night into sunday still possible for snow as the coastal storm develops the question is will it be close enough to the coast to give us substantial snow or will we escape it and it will go back to sea. in the wake of that storm, much like the one we had, it will
