and temperatures going above freezing. that is the good news. we are going to talk about more sunshine and basically, it is going to be around 29 degrees by the 9:00 hour under sunny conditions. by noon, 34. and the good news also the winds will be light for today, also by 5:00, clear skies, 4 degrees so those temperatures above freezing will help mel some of the snow away. currently, it is in the teens in places like martinsburg, 13 degrees reagan national it is in the mid-20s. so again, very cold start. so moms and dads, if you are getting your kids ready for school, make sure you get them bundled up and we'll talk about also your forecasts coming up a little bit later. but first we've got your traffic. >> reporter: good morning. we still check out the green light condition, use a lot of caution getting out of the neighborhoods. and in fact in maryland, we are still working on the water main

break georgia avenue at dawson, take it easygoing through there. both directions really. losing one lane each way northbound and southbound. overview zooming to 66 we notice a slowing eastbound from route 50 over to 123. back to the overview with the zoom to i-95 in virginia. speeds pick up a bit beyond that point. all lanes moving up on 395 in toward the downtown dc section. travel times also looks like on the major roadways no problems so far. beltway i-95 to 270, looks like an 11 minute drive in montgomery county. southbound 95 also about ten minutes from 216 going southbound down to the beltway ramps. i 295 dc northbound from the beltway heading into the 11th street bridge 7 minutes there. next traffic in a few minutes around 6:12.

coming up on 6:05 now. this was nowhere near last year, an inch or two in some places but boy it caused problems yesterday for people trying to get home from school and work. >> it's been nearly 24 hours since that snow fell. what are conditions like now? we have a look at when's on the ground or not there. good morning. >> reporter: good morning andrea. we got an inch, inch and a half over here in fairfax county. you know, overnight, crews have done an incredible job of getting this snow off the main roadways. check it out, we have a snow plow over here on the springfield parkway and these guys have been out in full force this morning, doing a great job of getting all this snow off to the side of the road. they have done their job, now it is time for you to do your job. last night we caught up with quit a few drivers who were prepping their cars for the morning commute this morning,

dusting their windshields, keeping their wipers vertical so they weren't trapped down and frozen overnight, all things that you should be doing to help prep for your morning commute this morning. yesterday we also caught up with wt opreporter who had been taking phone calls from angry drivers frustrated by what they were seeing on the roadway. take a listen to the chief complaints. >> a company of things we heard many times, people who failed to scrape all the snow off cars and people who didn't have headlights on in the middle of the day when the snow was coming down. i think a lot of drivers are concerned. we just came out of snowstorms not that long ago. here we are with fundamental things people were forgetting. >> reporter: hopefully today drivers will learn from their mistakes yesterday. but check on you this salt truck. we now have a sal truck behind a snow plow here in the kings town neighborhood of alexandria. like i said, i have literally

seen well over a dozen trucks here in this intersection in the past two hours that we have been out here. so for the most part, main roadways looking very good this morning. but of course, as we have been saying, it is those side streets driveway parking lots, that is of course where you are going to see some issues this morning. certainly plan for extra time this morning in your morning commute. although hopefully, it will not be nearly as bad as it looked yesterday. i was in the middle of that and i can tell you it wasn't fun. >> no it was not. thank you very much. she gave some good advice. plan ahead, give yourself extra time whether you are on the roads or the railful you might want to call ahead if you are taking amtrak going north. >> a power line fell on the tracks between baltimore and wilmington, delaware last night has been fixed. but there may still be some cancellations. amtrak says the trains did have heat and electricity, but some of the pieces of trains could be out of position this morning. we just checked with the

faa, and delta airlines cancelled 14 flights that were set to depart between 5:45 and noon from national airport. they also have delayed some flights. passengers were faced with a similar story last night when delta cancelled about 15 flights because the planes could not be properly deiced. dulles had a few delays last night and again the word to the wise. if you are flying out today, call it made. just to make sure your flight isn't callous cancelled or delayed. and you can check airport status anytime at our website. click on the traffic tab. and if you take white's ferry, you can forget about it. the ferry shut down tuesday and has been closed ever since. this comes after a week of service interrupted because the ferry's cable snapped recently. i'm sure you have an alternate route already. time now for your latest money report as we head toward

6:09 this morning. >> jessica doyle is back and looking at the tax cut package just passed in the house in the wee hours of the morning. >> reporter: that's right. late night action. taxes will not be going up for millions of americans. right before midnight the house voted 277-148 to pass the tax compromise. president obama worked out with republicans a week ago. the $850 billion measure is on the way to the president for his expected signature. this is no easy road to passage. last night ended days of bitter debate. some tried to impose a higher estate tax than the one the president agreed to. we should be a country that fights for those who really need the help. we should not be a country that says you know what? if you are a billionaire, we want to give you a little bit more. not perfect, but this is the kind of action that most americans voted for last november. here's what the bill does for you.

we have an accident there, crews are on the scene. could be slow conditions for a few more minutes. complete traffic coming your way in just a few minutes at about 6:18. thank you, richard. lowdon county feeds your help to track down thieves in one neighborhood. >> two men are going around breaking into cars. >> they are hoping new surveillance video released will help solve the case. >> i was shocked. i would never even think to worry about locking my car. obviously, just because you think it is a safe neighborhood. >> reporter: but that way of thinking left emily without a way to get to work. >> i walked outside and my car wasn't there. >> reporter: lowdon county authorities believe the men who took emily's suv are the same people caught on surveillance video nearby. the two crooks are seen walking around, smoking, checking out a pickup truck. they are caught again doing the

same thing to another vehicle. eventually, they made it to emily's suv, but didn't seem interested in the gps or other valuables. >> i think they just wanted to make mischief. >> reporter: that they did when they crashed her vehicle. >> it happened like right under our noses and we were oblivious to it. >> reporter: the thieves ran off. her suv came away with only a few scratches, but still put folks here on high alert. detectives aren't sure exactly how many car break-ins are connected, but it has taught this neighborhood a tough lesson, to always lock up. >> we always make sure now our home is very secure too. >> reporter: obviously, i lock my car now. >> the sheriff's testimony says always lock your car and remove all valuables out of sight. if you see someone suspicious, report it and let a deputy determine if the people belong

forecast. kids, those of you who are going to school this morning, look for partly cloudy to mostly sunny conditions this morning. up to 27 is the range of the forecast for this morning as we start off your friday. let's talk about our snow totals. nothing big our major here. reagan national did pick up an inch and a half of snow. frederick maryland came in at two and a half inches. dulles, virginia .8 of an inch of snow. some of that lingering this morning. here's a look at the satellite radar picture. no green on here, it means we saw basically cloudy conditions with the gray. the blue is basically to the north of us. today more sunshine for our area and things could change for tomorrow. but for now, temperatures in the teens for frederick and dc

metro. andrews air force base, 24. our futurecast, we are concerned about a coastal storm that's developing. we could see this coming through tomorrow. at this point our futurecast is showing us we should be staying dry. increasing clouds for saturday. but this storm here, you can see it is just going to miss us at this point, going off onto the coast. if we see this track closer to us, it could bring along the eastern shores a slight chance for snow. we are watching this. but not too confident it will be in our area. at this point, it should be missing us. if we see -t we could see the light snow saturday night and into early sunday morning. here's your 3 day forecast. today mostly sunny conditions, high near 36. yes, we will be above freezing to help melt out some of the snow. tomorrow for your saturday,

increasing clouds throughout the day, a chance for snow developing late saturday if that system gets to us. otherwise we may not even see it at all. sunday look for cloudy conditions as well. high near 34 degrees here's your 7-day outlook. by monday, mostly sunny skies, 33 degrees and tuesday another system comes on through, bringing at this point cloudy conditions, highs still very cold and unseasonably low. we are checking out the yellow light conditions meaning some issues to contend with. use caution as you are heading out there. first the accident clearing montgomery beltway past georgia avenue affecting the two left lanes. that is going to give us extra congestion at that point. also moving over to connecticut avenue montgomery, looks like the accident clearing there. crews are working on that right now as we speak. hopefully they'll get that cleared fairly shortly.

ready to head into the heart of the morning rush hour. so far so good. no major problems to report. that is exactly what we want to hear, one part of this area got an inch and a half of snow. check it out manchester on this side of the intersection. you can see that traffic is certainly picking up more drivers on the roadway. but for the most part, we haven't seen any problems at this intersection. we have seen a ton of snow plows, a ton of salt trucks, and that is exactly what we want to see. tell everybody i think they have done a really, really nice job overnight. main roads looking good, no problems getting here from northwest dc. as we go to the side road, there is still some snow on the roadway.
