they're creepy, they're crawly and now string bugs may affect your pocket book. also, find out which plants and foods can be deadly. plus, when you look at this image, it's hard to imagine anyone escaping the oncoming crash. see what happens next. this is 9news now. a local man was arraigned in a virginia courtroom today charged with driving while intoxicated. >> now, what makes this case so very unusual is that his erotic driving was all caught on tape by a 9news photographer who was actually instrumental in getting him caught. only on 9 tonight, andrea mccarren is here to show us what went down on a recent friday night. andrea. >> reporter: derek and anita, our colleague photographer kirk brooks was driving home after the 11:00 p.m. newscast and found himself behind an erratic

driver. his video offers up a rare glimpse of what happens when someone who ends up charged with dwi gets behind the wheel. >> he was acting a little erratic. so i decided the best defense was to get around him and get away from him. >> reporter: kirk brooks was headed south on i95 driving a 9news live truck with a small camera on his dashboard rolling. >> so i went to the right-hand lane. tried to pass him. and at that point, he nearly drove me into the guardrail. >> reporter: when the driver suddenly cut him off, kirk hit the brakes so hard it set off the truck's emergency warning alarm. kirk called the police and tried to direct them to the location of the driver. >> i'm just passing the parkway southbound. >> reporter: the driver appeared to be speeding and repeatedly hit his brakes while weaving between lanes. we sped up the video so you can see a good portion of his journey, straddling the center

line and swerving on to the shoulder. kirk followed the driver 25 miles where he witnessed this heart stopping moment. he's about to get in a head on collision. he almost did. >> it was almost like i failed because i had been working so long to try to get this guy pulled over and he's going to go ahead and kill somebody right in front of me. i was really regretting watching what i was watching. >> reporter: thankfully, no one was injured and police arrested the driver who stopped his car right in the middle of the road. >> it's all just sad. it's sad that he endangered himself and others. it's just not a great way to spend a friday night. >> reporter: we did give the virginia state police a copy of kurt's videotape. we know the driver's name but are not reporting it right pending further developments in this case. we did, however, find several court records that show he has been found guilty of reckless driving, speeding and other

traffic offenses before and has simply paid a fine. his license, we have learned, has now been revoked. well, there is late breaking news tonight out of montgomery county. right now police on the lookout for two missing teenage eringz. now, take a look at these two faces. 15-year-old stevonya reid and 17-year-old destiny magana last seen yesterday afternoon. the pair was outside rich and montgomery high. now, reid's family beliefs she may be in need of some sort of medical attention, so it's important if you've seen either one of these teenagers, please let the cops know. the rain is back, but is it going to last long enough to mess with your morning commute. that's the big question. >> i would just flan on leaving a little early. nothing crazy heavy overnight but it will be a wet morning commute. let's start with live doppler. you can access this on our website wusa9.com and our interactive radar is also on our website. click on the weather tab. you can see some light rain and somehowers out to the -- showers out to the west.

investigated over teachers helping students change wrong answers to right answers. at a town hall meeting tonight, brown got an earful, many who took the microphone says henderson lacks credentials and her appointment was made without considering others. >> i don't even know her. she's just a copy of michelle rhee. >> they already had in mind who they wanted to select for the chancellor. she was really close to michelle rhee. so i think it should be a good selection process. >> reporter: another meeting for the communiy is for input on henderson is scheduled for next wednesday at stewart hopkins middle school. mcdonald has a new plan to ban abortion coverage by the states health insurance exchanges. these are group plans that have to be created as part of a federal health care reform law. abortion would only be covered if the mother's life were in danger or if the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest. a vote on the bill amendment will take place next wednesday

in virginia. absurd and utterly senseless. that is how the mother of a man killed over chicken wings and pizza is describing her son's death. last son night ricardo barton ordered from domino and gave an address and then waited for paul bennett to arrive. officers say the trio shot the young father, stealing the food in his car but leaving behind $53 bennett had in his pocket. >> the audacity of someone to take someone else's life over some food is just senseless. and it's hard to comprehend it. >> he's my baby son. he's my baby. they took his life. they don't take away everything from him because it's still in my heart. and it will never go until i die. >> all three men have been charged with first degree murder and robbery. bennett will be laid to rest a week from saturday. tonight, two men are behind bars for the death of a

university of maryland student. back in january, police say 22-year-old stephon weaver and ricardo williams broke into justin overcashes home. right in the middle of the day, the pair robbed and then killed the 22-year-old. now, officers say overcash was ticked because he had been dealing drugs from the house. the evidence at the scene is consistent with the story but dealing drugs did not define his life. >> the kid was a scholar. he was a physics major and an astronomy major. he was a ta. he's done so many things to help people. and the fact that he was targeted like this is just still like upsets me to this day. >> officers say williams was the shooter and weaver drove the get away car. both have been charged with first degree murder. would you pay to watch your kid graduate from high school.

they're selling four ticket packages for as much as 400 bucks for premium seats. that is going on. now, some parents and students think it's unfair to families who just can't afford those prices. >> i think it's not fair for future graduating classes. >> i think we should have other ways of raising money. i feel graduation should just be the day that we spend the money instead of actually still trying to raise more money. >> well, fashing fax county says the money raised will -- fairfax county says the money raised will help pay for the cost to rent out the center. 11 other high schools are doing the same thing. they smell like decaying garbage. they multiply at rapid speed and now the dying sized pests are crawling their way across america infesting 33 states. stink bugs have been spotted as far west as california, north up in minnesota and down south in florida. of course, we have them around here and we're no stranger to

the little stinkers at all. as armando trull reports, stink bugs may be costly as well. >> reporter: we could have some real problems and devastation on the crop. doug is a wine maker and he was very worried when for the third year in a row, stink bugs began to show up not just on his farm but on his vines. >> not only will they hurt the fruit while it's hanging on the vine, but also as we're picking the fruit. then we have that possibly getting into the wine if we're not careful. >> reporter: he knows stink bugs aren't just a smelly nuisance. they can be very destructive. they gobbled up $27 million worth of crops in georgia. to keep the insects from getting into the grapes, you'll have to remove them by hand. >> if it costs us a little more, we'll eat it for now. if we have to raise our prices, we will, but we much better not. >> reporter: they have no known predators so u.s. officials are trying to develop a safe

7-year-old madison davis is being credited with saving her mom's life. her mother suffered a seizure earlier this month. the family's house is set up to dial 911 when a certain door is opened. >> i didn't know what to do until i just figured out, oh, i have to crack the door open to get them. >> my mom is having a seizure. >> okay. well, we're going to send the paramedics to help. i want you to stay on the line with me, okay. what is your name so i can call

>> not knowing which was the culprit, all four were rushed here to the hospital in vienna. >> every part of the plant is toxic, including the petals, the leaves, the stems. the pollen, the water that they're contained in. >> reporter: so toxic just a tiny amount of a lilly plant can cause a cat to go into complete kidney failure. >> i've seen people lose pets from a bunch of different types of toxicities? >> reporter: other plants coming into bloom that are also dangerous to pets include tu lip and daffodils and azaleas. and items in the grocery aisles can kill a pet. grapes and raisins for dogs. >> sometimes only one to two raisins or grapes are enough. >> reporter: other little known food dangers include avocados, mack dame yeah macadamia nuts, onions and chives.

ridiculous is the size of some of the carry ones folks try to squeeze on the plane and then want me to strain my back stuffing it into the overhead. just check your dang bags. but isn't that part of your job. please, the faa mandates one flight attendant for every 50 seats. our job is to get you off the plane in an emergency. that i cannot do with a bad back. well, okay. but isn't this all just a scam to charge us more and more for a terrible flying experience? well, first of all, airlines are in this for profit. secondly, don't blame us for the tsa. and expectations are a part of the problem too. going to the supermarket on saturday afternoon is terrible and crowded and slow, but nobody makes a big deal about that. and speaking of which, when we gave away the food for free, everybody complained. now that we charge, everyone buys it and nobody complains. explain that. just check your dang bags, she

the north side of 50 there. a little bit of moderate rain also around manassas denoted there in yellow. where is this going to go in the next hour? essentially just going to move up the north through vienna and reston and great falls and bethesda and right around the airport in the next hour. all right. let's talk about what is going to happen. we're going to get dryer air in here eventually. we're still going to have a wet morning commute tomorrow. but the good news is, a dry evening commute. we haven't had that for a while. breezy friday and saturday. and a bit milder over the weekend. not quite up to what our expectations are, but at least a little milder. all right. tomorrow morning, this is why we think we're going to have a wet commute. showers light. nothing heavy tomorrow. look at the flakes all the way down to frederick and martinsburg tomorrow. could even see a snowflake around gaithersburg. but notice around 1:00, most of the showers are gone. we'll see some dryer air and breaks in the clouds and we might even see the sunset

tomorrow. what about that. as we get into friday night, clouds disappear and then we get into saturday morning and another system comes at us. this is a weak system. it's going to spread clouds our way on saturday. i don't think the rain is going to be heavy enough to cancel any little league games, but bundle up if you're a spectator. cloudy and rain. mixing with snow north an west. winds northeast at ten. overnight winds kick and become northwesterly. tomorrow in the norng morning we can see -- morning we can see early rain and snow shower. 30s and 40s. and then by afternoon finally becoming partly cloudy. it will be breezy, brisk for april 1st. highs low 50s. and with the winds northwest at 10-20, it's not going to feel like it's in the low 50s at all. 51 in gaithersburg tomorrow. 51 in rockville. maybe 51 in arlington. old town and springfield. 52 downtown. and 51 out in bowie. all right. let's talk about tomorrow's day planner. some showers in the morning. 30s. cold by noon. but some breaks in the clouds.

short on years, but he is clearly long on poise. and as they held their first practice today, the bcu players continued to feed off the coach believing that the 11th seed next to their name they will be the national champions. finally tonight, the brewers did something today that hadn't happened in 42 years in baseball. second baseman ricky leaks leading off the game with a homerun and then right after him center fielder carlos gomez hits another homerun. that is the first time since 1969 that a team has led off its season with back-to-back homeruns. the bummer for the brewers is, they lost the game on a walk off from the reds. >> come on. >> in the 9th inning. so they made history but they lost. >> one of those things. >> we'll be right back. ♪
