all lanes are open from manassas, centerville and fairfax. on the beltway in maryland, on the outer loop side between arena drive and landover road, there is construction today in the right lane that should be cleared shortly. now, we'll take you over to the map. 95, bw parkway from baltimore all the way down to the beltway. you're looking good. all of your lanes are open. in my next report, we'll take a look at route 50 in maryland at 4:40. thank you, monika. we begin with the latest in the death of osama bin laden. >> president obama will be at ground zero on thursday to mark the death of bin laden. he will be meeting with some families who had loved ones killed in the 9-11 attacks. pakistani officials say they're glad bin laden was killed. the u.s. military buried bin laden's body at sea because they think his family wanted nothing to do with him. the united states embassies are on alert and americans abroad are being warned about possible reprisals from supporters of

bin laden. attack took shape as they took shape, there was a lot of disagreement in the room. before the president insisted the assault by the navy seals move forward. susan mcginnis has more on the attacks. >> reporter: under the cover of darkness, about two dozen navy seals slid down ropes from two helicopters. they arrived at the million dollar compound of osama bin laden with orders to capture or kill. the mission was so top secret that during practice runs, the seals weren't even told who the target was. once inside, an intense fire fight started. >> there was a female that reportedly wast was used as a shield to shield bin laden from the incoming fire. >> u.s. forces shot bin laden code name geronimo in the head and the chest. they took his body with them but one of the helicopters carrying the seals stalled upon arrival and had to be blown up. >> all of a sudden, you had to

go into plan b. they did it flawlessly. >> it was monitored in real time by the president and his security team. there were tense moments in the situation room and an advisor said the minutes passed like days and then president obama explained we got him. no contact was made with pakistani officials until u.s. teams were out of pakistani airspace. bip laden was quickly buried at sea but he was identified by one of his wives, dna and facial recognition technology. but the war on terror is far from over. >> it is important that we remain vigilant in our efforts to defeat terrorist enemies and protect the american people. >> the u.s. has not raised its terror threat level but military bases are on alert and the fbi is looking for evidence of new plots against america. susan mcginnis for cbs news, the white house. let's break down the numbers surrounding the hunt for osama bin laden. >> starting with 3,460, the number of people killed in the

9-11 attacks. >> 20, the percentage of americans who knew someone hurt or killed at the world trade center. 26. the number of days after the attacks at the u.s. started bombing afghanistan. >> 1,566, the number of u.s. military deaths in afghanistan, pakistan and uzbekistan since the beginning of operation enduring freedom. and 116, the number of months between the 9-11 attacks and the death of its mastermind. one of the biggest questions coming from the death of osama bin laden, how much did the pakistani government know? >> pakistani leaders from the president down to foreign diplomats are saying their government provided support which led to osama bin laden's demise. >> the discovery of osama bin laden's hideout in a small pakistani town where thousands of soldiers are has increased suspicions the islamabad government was sheltering him but pakistan's u.n. ambassador refutes this saying his country

shared information with the u.s. that led to bin laden's compound. >> we didn't know he was there. we told him where he was. we shared everything. if we knew where he was, we definitely shared it. the government is not denying that they were sharing intelligence. what they're denying is they had any hand in the attack. whatever you have today, any major available here was given to you by the pakistani agency. >> what does bin laden's death mean for pakistan and the region? >> well, you see immediately what the reaction is. people have promised to take on the state and do justice. most unfortunately, my country will suffer the worst again. >> the war on terrorism is now institutionalized. the way the al-qaeda work, it is a homogenous body. as far as that is concerned, it is very obvious that the al-

qaeda network has lost a financier. so, that's a big blow to them. he was of immense importance. he was a rallying point. he's gone. there will be others. has to be seen whether they can achieve the same prominence. >> does this change the game between the united states and pakistan as well? >> the question really is, the excuse for pursuing -- the quest for pursuing bin laden is over. i suggest they stop with it. i don't think drones are a fair way of war. collateral damages are much higher. not only here but also in pakistan. >> now, pakistan's u.n. ambassador says his country's gotten the short end of the stick from the united states during the war on terrorism. he says he hasn't seen anything good happening for pakistan because of their cooperation with the united states. >> in other news this morning, a large section of a mississippi river levee has been blown up by the u.s. army

corps of engineers. the section of levee in missouri is downstream from the illinois town of cairo. the blast was intended to prevent cairo from flooding. water is flowing into empty farm fields. prince charles will be in washington today. he will be in the region through thursday. the prince of wales will visit with president obama at the white house tomorrow. he'll also be delivering a keynote speech at georgetown university on sustainable agriculture. last night, prince -- last time prince charles was in the u.s. was back in 2007. >> space shuttle "endeavour" will not blast off until next week at the earliest. nasa needs more time to test a faulty us for a box which forced officials to scrub last weekend's launch. it is making its final voyage before nasa ends its space shuttle program. the time is 4:37. at 4:41, another automaker announces a massive recall. >> 4:49, a new study out that

the children qualify for them or not, it will still be offered. the program is ensuring that low income students who qualify for free meals will actually take advantage of them. to date, only 43% of the students who qualify for free lunch actually eat the free breakfast their school provides them. >> the debate when a woman should start getting screened for breast cancer is heating up all over again. >> new research suggests less women this their 40s are getting mammograms after a government panel recommended against screening most women in the group. anita brikman has more. >> reporter: lee had her first mammogram at 40. she never expecting it would uncover cancer. >> a little bit blind-sided. >> under current government recommendations, leah wouldn't have been screened for years. in 2009, a task force recommended that most women do not need regular mammograms until they're 50 years old. now, new research suggests fewer women in their 40s are getting them. a university of colorado study found a drop in mammograms in

these women in the nine months after the new guidelines came out. >> we've seen an overall reduction in the proportion of eligible american women who are having annual screenings. this has been a trend and it may be that the trend is now accentuated by the guidelines. >> it is important to note the american cancer society does not embrace this change and still recommends most women start getting regular mammograms in their 40s. when the disease is often caught at an earlier, more treatable stage. >> strides that we've made in america in reducing the death rate from breast cancer have been, in part, due to our emphasis on early detection. >> i feel like my case is a perfect example of someone who is totally healthy and risk free and yet you know, did have a cancer. >> that was anita brikman reporting. it is important to point out two things. women who start getting mammograms earlier may encounter more false positives.

suspicious spots that get biopsied and turned out to be nothing. it doesn't address women with family histories. they all need to be screened early and often. >> if you're like most of us, you really care about eating healthier but deciphering food labels can make that a chore. one label in particular, one think is easier to decipher but it is more complicated. the fda admits it has never defined the term natural. it doesn't object to the label as long s as there are no artificial substances. it leaves room for unappetizing ingredients. >> citric acid, for example, can be made by bacteria and that's considered to be a natural flavoring. red dye can come from crushed beetles, this can be a natural food coloring. >> crushed beetles. one nutrition expert says the natural loophole shows the food industry is more concerned
