in from route 7100 to the beltway, beltway, 395 to the tollway, 13 minutes. 295 toward the 11th street bridge, right now, only 7 minutes. we'll take a look at 95 in maryland coming up. >> more details about the raid to get osama bin laden. >> the raid unfolded pakistan time. about two dozen navy seals rappeled from helicopters into bin laden's compound. their orders were so top secret, the seals were not told who the target was when they practiced for this mission. when they went in, the seals had orders to capture or kill him. president obama and others watched live as this unfolded from the situation room. >> there was a female that reportedly was used as a shield to shield bin laden from the incoming fire. >> the seal shot bin laden in the head and chest and removed

his body. he was identified by one of his wives during the raid. dna and facial recognition technology confirmed that later. today, pakistan's president is denying his country actually sheltered bin laden. >> while the capture or death of osama bin laden has long been a goal of the u.s. government, accomplishing that goal could cause some problems. >> a possibility al-qaeda terrorists will try to retaliate has many law enforcement groups in washington taking action now. 9news now reporter surae chinn is live outside the dupont circle metro station with more on this side of the story. surae, good morning. >> good morning to both of you. across the nation and here in the district, security has been stepped up. we're talking everything from the airport to the capital to here at metro and throughout the transit system. folks are working double time to keep you safe. we had cameras in key areas such as the pentagon. we saw more uniformed officers there with high-powered weapons. i saw more at the cia at

lappingly, more than -- at langley, more than usual there. airport, security has been beefed up. the fbi cautions public buildings are attractive targets for terrorists, homegrown or otherwise. d.c.'s metro system is beefing up its police presence until further notice. that goes for both the buses and rails. metro was asking passengers to report anything suspicious including packages left unattended. but chief michael taborn tells us this increase in security is a precautionary measure, not a response to any specific threat. >> as a result of this increased security, our customers are likely to see an increase in uniformed police officers in the system. >> not very nervous or scared about anything that's going to be done in retaliation. >> that's not to say there couldn't be problems. >> we're from the west coast. i had no hesitation to come in to the heart of d.c. today. because i do feel safe. >> i don't think anything's going to happen but i feel safer back home. >> now, cia director leon

panetta issued a statement. he says al-qaeda would try to avenge bin laden's death. he went on to say that though bin laden is dead, al-qaeda is not and that terrorists will almost certainly attempt to avenge him and we must and will revenge vigilant and resolute coming from the cia director, leon panetta. >> thank you, surae outside the dupont circle station. one of the most recent u.s. casualties in the war on terror was a marine from virginia. family and friends attended the burial service for sergeant sean callahan yesterday at arlington national cemetery. the 23-year-old died last month in afghanistan's help man's province. >> work is underway on a 9-11 memorial in front of a local fire station. kensington volunteer fire department will display two artifacts from the september 11th attacks. they've been given a piece of burnt and twisted steel from the south tower of the world trade center as well as a chunk

no problems to report in this area of northwest. now taking a look at the train, no problems to report on metro, vre or marc. everything is running on time. in my next report, i'll give you an update on that accident in gaithersburg at 539. andrea, mike? >> pentagon officials say they may release a videotape of osama bin laden's burial at sea. >> that would be to refute any claims that the body is not that of the al-qaeda leader. and we're learning more about the work to track down bin laden in the first place. intelligence officials took a long time to find the pakistan compound because bin laden's courier frequently turned off his cell phone and removed the bat which so it could not be tracked. as an anxious osama bin laden watched from the situation room, navy seals raided a compound and killed bin laden. >> it will be likely mounting pressure to prove that bin laden was killed especially since there is no body.

>> this is different than anything we've seen before. >> now, sources tell cbs news the seals also discovered a large amount of data in bin laden's compound. they also destroyed a u.s. military helicopter which could not lift off again because of a mechanical problem. thursday, president obama plans to head to ground zero to meet with relatives of world trade center victims. now, here's surae chinn with more on the increased security measures around washington after bin laden's death. surae? >> well, mike, the natural response and with good reason is because of the potential for retaliation. so, what you'll find is heightened security nearly everywhere you go where lots of people gathered. such as government buildings. public transportation, heightened security everywhere you go in the district including the u.s. capital. capital police officers are patrolling with automatic weapons. they usually do but there are more of them. and d.c. police officers are also on guard for any suspicious activity.

terrorist experts caution government buildings, public transportation such as metro, airports are a directed target for terrorists and that the killing of osama bin laden could inspire homegrown terrorists to avenge his death. in response, d.c. metro and the airports have beefed up security. now, d.c. police chief cathy lanier says a safer district means everyone helping out. >> in this fight, it is not just police and intelligence and the military. we really need our community to step up their game and report anything they see that's out of the ordinary. >> now, metro says not only will you see a heightened security, more uniformed officers but you'll also find heightened security that you might not see. that usually applies everywhere you go across the district, across the region and the nation. andrea? >> surae chinn reporting live. thank you. also today, cia director leon panetta will brief members of congress about the capture and killing of osama bin laden. some of the expected questions

earlier today and then later, that cold air clashing. we could see some strong storms. visibility, we have some areas of fog. it is down to half a mile from martinsburg and frederick. 3/4 for winchester, less than two miles for hagerstown. but around the beltway, visibility is just fine. it is perfect. no reports of fog. currently, it is 61 degrees in gaithersburg. 63 for d.c. frederick, 57. winchester, good morning to you at 59 degrees. here is a look at the future cast. you can see we're going to stay dry for most of the day. this evening though, winchester, martinsburg along 81, the showers and thunderstorms come in. slight chance for the storms to be severe along 81 and west of it. for d.c., we could see some thunderstorms late tonight and overnight. but we're not worried about them being severe. some more showers through tomorrow morning. could be a wet commute for tomorrow morning. but then after that, the cold front comes through. we'll clear out to partly sunny

conditions by around 5:00. but boy, does it really cool down. we also have a coastal flooding advisory in effect until 10:00 tonight. this basically means we're expecting waves one to two feet above normal. our main concern is just a minor flooding of low-lying areas. that is until 10:00 p.m. tonight, the areas in the light green. for today though, partly cloudy. breezy and warmer. thunderstorms possible. better chance to the western suburbs for this afternoon. highs 80 to 85 degrees. south winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour. take a look at these highs, 83 in d.c. we should be low 70s. enjoy the above average temperatures. culpepper, warm at 87 degrees. here is your next three days. enjoy the warmth today before the showers and storms come in tonight and overnight into wednesday morning. then wednesday, we really cool things down. upper 50s, close to 60 degrees. then for thursday, lots of
