395 and the toll road itself. still ahead, we're tracking 95 headed southbound in maryland. andrea and mike, we'll have that at 5:09. back to you. >> now to breaking news we're following out of montgomery county. firefighters are at the scene of a house explosion in rockville. >> the scene is in the 11200 block of ashley drive. 9news now reporter surae chinn is at the scene with more. >> reporter: i want to show you the sheer destruction here at the 11000 block of ashley drive. a massive explosion that shook this house, destroyed it and the neighboring house also received some damage. we have chief richard bowers here to tell us the very latest of what happened. >> good morning. around 3:00 a.m. this morning, fire rescue units were called to a 911 call in the 11200 block of ashley drive for an apparent explosion or emergency in the house. units arrived on the scene to see a house that was completely destroyed.

apparently by some sort of explosion. right now, we've transported two adults to the local burn center. they're in serious condition but not a life-threatening situation for them. right now, we're going to conduct an initial investigation probably around daybreak with other local authorities to determine what may have caused this incident. >> tell us also, we heard that people felt the impact a mile away. >> i don't know about the exact area that the percussion was felt but it simply was an explosion of this magnitude, it would be felt quite a distance. >> reporter: can you talk about what could cause such a huge explosion? people have said maybe a propane tank but is it just too early to say? >> too early to say right now. initial stage of investigation, as you can see, what's on-going right now, all of the utilities have been shut down. all of the people have been evacuated. we're waiting to make sure as i

obviously still very nice and quiet. our next stop, m street and south capital street, you can barely see through our soggy wet camera here. let me tell you no real issues to report out here in southeast. as your trains, better news out here, also. metro, vre, marc, everyone is running smoothly. still ahead, a look at the outer loop accident and if things are improving. that's at 5:39. andrea, mike, back to you. thank you, angie. a scary morning in montgomery county. firefighters are right now at the scene of a major house explosion in rockville. >> it is amazing but two people were inside the home. they were injured. the explosion happened in the 11200 block of ashley drive. our surae chinn is at the scene with more. >> reporter: what neighbors are telling me is this was a massive explosion. here's what's left of the house that exploded just a pile of debris right here. there's damage to the neighboring homes as well. we have jorge fuente who was asleep at the time this happened.

tell me what you heard. >> one massive explosion. there was just a tree that fell on our house. then glass shattered. glass fell on my back. debris everywhere. we didn't know what to think. we went outside. we heard voices. trees up there. it actually spread into the neighbor's house over there. thankfully, they were quick enough to get it off and that's all that really happened. >> reporter: describe the sheer noise you heard that woke you up. >> it was massive. like one massive thunderbolt and the whole house shook. apparently about a mile and a half away to two miles felt it. we had a guy come in telling us he felt the shock wave. he came over here to find out what happened. he started recording video of it and then police came over to try to take control. >> thank you, jorge fuentes.

we're being told by the assistant chief that two people were taken to the hospital with burns, serious condition. but nonlife-threatening. we'll bring you the latest and stay on the scene and bring you the latest as soon as we get it. back to you. >> surae chinn reporting live from the scene in rockville, maryland. >> this morning, there is growing pressure for the white house to show more proof that osama bin laden is really dead. >> officials have now revealed that bin laden was not armed when a navy seal shot and killed him. but they do say he was resisting while cia director leon panetta believes the images will eventually be made public. some are describing them as gruesome and possibly inflammatory. >> it could, in fact, be used to try to develop a lot of the revengeful nature of what al- qaeda is all about. >> there are also growing questions about officials with pakistan's government who insist they knew nothing about bin laden's whereabouts.

bin laden's compound is in the city of abbottabad, also home to more than 100,000 retired and active military officers. we've learned an anonymous tip from our area led to the capture of the suspected east coast rapist and that tipster will now be rewarded for leading police to aaron thomas. investigators say the person called prince george's county's crime solvers and identified a suspect who is also being investigated. the tipster will get cash rewards from many counties. thomas is accused of sexually assaulting more than a dozen women. police say his victims included women in prince george's, fairfax and loudoun county. >> the montgomery county council has decided to comply with a program that it doesn't like and has been public about that displeasure about it. the secure communities initiative requires local police departments to send finger prints of all jail inmates to a federal immigration agency. while that can help agents

did nothing for electronics and appliance retailers. clothing sales rose more than 4% compared with april last year. there was a greater than 12% rise in men's clothing. 7% hike in sales of women's apparel. sales of luxury goods rose nearly 10% during the month but sales of electronics and appliances fell almost 2%. overall sales climbed 19%. nintendo is offering the wii now in a package that cuts the price to less than $150. i love that. for $149.99, you can get the white or black nintendo wii, and a copy of mario cart with a black or white steering wheel for the game. it goes on sale may 15th. nintendo will sell the newly priced wii along with the current $199.99 wii system with sports games and so inventory runs out before the summer and now to barbie suites.

your virginia roads. back to you. >> thanks, angie. he says going back to his job at the pentagon was his way of fighting osama bin laden. johniates barely survived the 9- 11 attacks. >> he's the only person seriously injured in the pentagon attack who still works there. peggy fox got john's reaction to the death of the man responsible for his injuries and the murder of his friends and coworkers. >> i always knew that we would find him. >> reporter: on september 11th, john yate was watching the coverage of the attacks on the world trade center at a coworker's desk. at 9:35, his world changed. >> i remember the explosion. and the noise and the fire coming over me. i remember the tv in front of me just exploding. >> the hijacked american airlines flight 77 had slammed into the pentagon. >> i was thrown through the air. i remember everything in the room went instantly black. the floor burned my hands. >> all 64 people on board the plane and 125 people in the building were killed.

>> i was standing in the middle of five people and i'm the only one that survived. >> somehow, he crawled his way through the searing heat and black smoke to a door that led to the pentagon courtyard. >> they took me down and put me underneath this tree over here. >> yates was burned over 38% of his body with second and third degree burns. you can see the cheesecloth like marks on his hands and discoloration on his forearms where he had skin grafts. he spent two and a half months in the hospital including ten days on a respirator because his lungs were burned. >> even for a couple of weeks after i got off the respirator, i was still coughing and sneezing up black soot. >> john yates lost 24 friends and coworkers on 9-11 and his injuries were so severe, he could have retired on worker's comp but he says that's the last thing he wanted to do. >> bin laden, you know, he changed my life forever. i can never go back to being who i was. i wouldn't let the bastard win.
