laden's compound on sunday in pakistan and killed the terrorist. pakistan says it is now reviewing its relationship with the united states as a result of the raid. let's go to drew levinson in new york where the president will meet with families today. >> reporter: president obama arrived here in new york this morning. the first place he wept, a fire station hard hit on 9/11. he's expected here at ground zero in about an hour and a half, and it will mark a significant point in history as the president meets with the families of those who died on 9/11. engine 54 in midtown manhattan was president obama's first stop on his visit to new york. the firehouse lost 15 men on 9/11. firefighter christopher santora was with engine 54 for only two months when he was killed on 9/11. his parents and other relatives are meeting privately today with the president at ground zero. >> it's a very somber place to be, and i see this as a cemetery, and this was where my son died. so for me this will always be a

cemetery. >> reporter: the president will place a wreath at the memorial site where nearly 3,000 people lost their lives. it will be a moment to reflect on the heroism of the victims. and to mark the death of osama bin laden, the mastermind of 9/11. the president says he's down here at ground zero because he wants to share the victory of finally getting bin lad nguyen some of the people hardest hit. michael burke lost his brother billy, a fair fighter killed trying to rescue office workers. nearly 10 years later the pain is still fresh but there's also relief. >> i know nothing is going to bring billy back, but it's still -- it's a great feeling veal lags actually -- a great feeling of elation, a feeling that order has been restored to the world. >> reporter: the white house says the president is determined to keep politics out of today's event to make this a

director leon panetta. on sunday at -- on "60 minutes" president obama will explain the decision to go after osama bin laden, and one question steve croft asked was, why was the terrorist leader buried at sea. >> it was a joint decision. we thought it was important to think through ahead of time how we would dispose of the body if he were killed in the compound, and i think that what we tried to do was consulting with experts in islamic law and ritual to find something that was appropriate. >> you can watch the entire interview with the president sunday on "60 minutes" beginning at 7:00 p.m. the navy seals who killed bin laden are reportedly back in the united states. abc news reports that they arrived yesterday at andrews air force base. we do not know the names of the seals involved in that raid but

guilty to charges of disorderly conduct and a new charge of failure to obey. before court this morning they staged a rally proclaiming that their fight and the protests are not over. nine of the protesters today chose to pay $100 in a post and forfeiture fine which is not an admission of guilt but does it close the because on their court appearances. however, eight people, including michael brown, say they're seeing this through. >> who wouldn't pay $100 to avoid having to come back to court again but we need to make a statement that the district of columbia pays the highest federal taxes in the country. we're the home of 39 congressional medal of honor winners and we're tried of being treated like second-class citizens. >> reporter: the eight people have until a hearing june 28th to decide if they're going to pay that $100 fine and move forward or continue this fight

in court. michael brown tells me everything is on the table. jc, back to you. >> thank you very much. d.c. council woman mary shea and seven other women were led away in handcuffs after a protest on capitol hill. house republicans passed the bill yesterday that would ban the use of federal funds for abortions for low-income women. advocates for d.c. voting rights say that such decisions should be made at that time local level. president obama and senate democrats oppose this bill. a sandwich shop worker got a huge surprise when she went to work this morning. someone who broke into the store became stuck in the ductwork. it happened at jerry's subs and pete zane the 9700 block of fort meade road in laurel, maryland. scott broom has more on the rescue and reaction from the woman who found the suspect. >> reporter: this would-be burglar was discovered this

morning at this jerry's subs and pizza in laurel when a worker opened up the store and was surprised to find two feet dangling from underneath a ventilation hood over one of the restaurant's grills. >> i was hearing someone shouting, jerry, jerry. >> he was stuck in there and had been stuck up to eight hours. they had to part away part of the ventilation. from what it appears, he entered through a roof hatch. this is a one-story commercial establishment. he was able to gain access to the roof, opened a hatch to the ventilation system, was able to slide his body down a very small opening, and again, this is a ventilation system for the cooking system, so it's quite greasy. >> reporter: workers said they recognized the man as a homeless person they've seen in and out of the store many times. he's been taken to a hospital and after that he's expected to be charged by laurel police.

in laurel, scott broom, 9news now. u.s. park police are working to find out what triggered a double shooting on the baltimore washington parkway this morning. two men were shot while in their car near riverdale road. one man was shot in the arm, the other man was shot in the stomach. medics rushed both victims to the hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries. police are now looking for a suspect. the northbound lanes of the parkway have been reopened. a rockville couple is in the hospital after an explosion leveled their home. we told you about this explosion on ashley drive yesterday. the blast scattered debris all over the neighborhood and of course it woke up neighbors. fire investigators say the explosion happened shortly after the husband was working on a dryer in the home. >> one of the pipes that was being worked on did leak gas throughout the night. eventually this gas leaking

into the house eventually found an ignition source at which point the house did explode. >> neighbors say the couple moved into the home just a few days ago. police in anne arundel county would like to remind you that pepco workers do not make in an announced house calls. a glen burnie woman did not know that and fortunately she became the victim of a robbery. the woman tells police that a man came to her home tuesday morning, posing as a pepco worker, checking on a gas leak. that's when he showed her a gun and he robbed her. pepco does not serve that area, nor does it check on gas leaks. still to come on 9news now at noon, a beautiful day at the racetrack turns ugly after a horse throws its jockey and barrels through a crowd of spectators, and it was all caught on tape. and drivers, consider this

maryland. easton, cambridge, you guys are sitting at 59. the winds, they're gusting to 31 in hagerstown, nearly 30 at leesburg and manassas right now so keep that in mind. if you are going to be outside it is going to be a windy afternoon in spite of the sun. those temperatures into the sick. right now we've got 62 with sunny skies. north-northwesterly winds at 1. again with gusts in the mid- 20s, and the humidity is dry. we'd have to worry about five danger. flooding is a much bigger problem in the red river valley in the dakotas. the mississippi from the minnesota border south, just about to new orleans there. the ohio river, western tennessee, parts of kentucky, historic, epic flooding going on. this is going to be a problem for the next several weeks. a lot of farmland is going to be underwater. for us we're already looking at our next rain maker. you can seat in minnesota, wisconsin, now passing kansas city, st. louis, chicago could see some showers later on. that system is moving east, and that is what is going to cloud

our skies up during the day tomorrow and bring us showers by mid to late afternoon. today we've got high pressure so it's a good day but between the high and the low in new england there's not a lot of real estate with a pretty big pressure change and that's why we've got the winds driving today out of the northwest. but as the high and low gets farther apart everynight the winds lighten up. tomorrow this trough of low pressure starts to move east. we're still okay midday. clouds will thicken. midafternoon, 3:00, shenandoah valley is by evening rush hour we'll have some showers around here. this whole area is going to scoot east of us so that by saturday morning it's gone. we're only talking about .1 or .2 of an inch of rain. 68 windy degrees today. tomorrow 68, isolated rumble of thunder. saturday, nice, 72. sunday, sorry, mom, a few showers in the forecast. we're back around that 70- degree mark. next week remains a little bit
