apartment. surae chen has more. >> reporter: fairfax county police are investigating the fifth homicide of the year. one woman was stabbed to death. two others were taken to the hospital from this third-story apartment. >> just shocked. >> it's just a surprise that it happened. >> reporter: max kim says the woman who died was good friends with his wife, seen here overcome by emotion. >> they're nice neighbors and nice friends to my wife. >> reporter: how hard is this on you and your family and your wife? >> my wife, it's so bad, it's sad. >> reporter: he says a family member, also korean, also injured, came banging on the door for help. >> she opened up the door, and he was laying down on the floor. >> reporter: police arrived off braddock road around 5:30 this morning. the surviving victims were rushed to the hospital.

a minivan was towed away for evidence. friends say the women involved are sisters and the man could be a husband or boyfriend of the surviving woman. police have not said who may have been the perpetrator but all suffered knife wounds. they also say the violence is contained to the three people involved. >> it was a domestic situation, and there's no one outside of this particular situation that we're looking for. >> it's scary. this is a quiet place. >> reporter: in centreville, surae chen, 9news now. >> police have not identified the victims yet, pending notification of their family. stay with 9 news. we'll have the latest information beginning at 5:00 on our newscast and on our website, wusa9.com. months after his allegations came out, suleiman brown is scheduled to testify today. brown accuses mayor vincent gray's campaign staff of giving him money and promising him a job in exchange for attacks on

then mayor adrian fenty. d.c. police are investigating an early morning shooting in northwest washington. it happened around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of l street and 7th street northwest. a man was shot once in the abdomen. police say it was an attempted robbery. the man's injury is serious and police are looking for two suspects. fire investigators are searching for the cause of a late-night fire that occurred in southeast washington. the two-alarm fire began in a three-story apartment in the 5100 block of f street southeast. one person was transported from the scene with serious burns. they are expected to survive. four people are being treated for injuries that they received in a montgomery county accident that occurred this morning. sky 9 was over the scene where several cars collided near the

intersection of east-west highway and glen galen lane in chevy chase. one woman was rushed to the hospital. another woman and two men were also injured. police are trying to determine the cause of that crash. alcohol is blamed for a triple fatal accident that occurred in prince george's county. an suv slammed into the back of a car and then ran off the road into a tree. the accident happened near the intersection of indian head highway and wilson bridge road in oxon hill. there were two passengers in that vehicle, two females that were ejected from the vehicle. they were pronounced dead on the scene. the driver of that vehicle was also pronounced dead. the remaining passenger, a male adult, was transported to a local hospital. >> the driver of the suv, 53- year-old eugene johnson and the

passenger, 52-year-old demby, were killed. the name of the third victim has not been released. those two were passengers in the car that was hit. the driver of the suv, which is the vehicle that slammed into the car, has been charged with driving under the influence. the search is resuming in montgomery county's triadelphia reservoir for a missing swimmer. he's believed to have drowned. authorities say the 21-year-old bruce yansen was one of three people swimming on friday night when a drop in the water level caused him to panic and to go under. searchers were looking this weekend for him. they failed to find yansen's body. swimming is prohibited in that reservoir. today would have been jalen

wright's first birthday. instead, family members are making funeral arrangements for the little girl and her mother. investigators say that the two were killed by d.c. police officer richmond phillips. phillips is jalen's father. jalen and her mother were killed the night before a paternity hearing was to be held. their funeral is set for friday in northeast washington. the former international monetary fund leader, dominique strauss-kahn, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he sexually assaulted a new york city hotel maid. the french diplomat appeared in the state supreme court in manhattan today for the first time since was arrested and placed on $6 million bail and bond last month. manuel gallegus reports. >> reporter: dominique strauss- kahn walked out of a manhattan courtroom with his wife as a

crowd yelled "shame on you." the shouting came from a group of about 50 hotel maids who had gathered outside to show their support for the alleged victim. >> reporter: you believe her. >> yeah, we believe her. >> reporter: inside the former head of the international monetary fund looked relaxed after pleading not guilty to multiple criminal charges, including attempted rape and sexual assault of a manhattan hotel maid. the 32-year-old maid says when she went in to clean strauss can's $3,000 a night suite he chased her down and forced her to perform a sex accident. her lawyer says she will testify if the case goes to trial. the victim is simply a hard working single mother. >> reporter: the case now moves to the pretrial phase where lawyers for both sides will argue over potential evidence. prosecutors have said that evidence against strauss can is

getting stronger by the day. sources tell cbs that his dna was found on the maid's uniform. legal experts believe strauss- kahn's attorneys plan to argue that the sex was consensual. it could be months before strauss-kahn goes to trial. he's currently living under house arrest in a $50,000 a month town house in new york's tribeca neighborhood. manuel gallegus, cbs news, new york. >> if convicted, strauss-kahn could face at least five years in prison. well, the new report says that the military bowl pumped nearly $18 million into the local economy last year. attendance for the 2010 game was more than double that of the year before. a large number of fans came from out of town to see maryland play east carolina. organizers are hoping that the game's economic impact will lead to much needed upgrades at

harry thomas. the d.c. attorney general is accusing thomas of taking money that was donated to a charity that he runs and spending it. the suit accuses the ward 5 council member of using that money on a luxury vehicle as well as travel expenses and a vacation home. the attorney general is seeking a judgment of over $1 million. he wants the case handed over to the u.s. attorney general. today marks the deadliest day for americans in iraq since 2009. five u.s. troops were killed in an attack in baghdad. joel brown has more. >> reporter: five american service members were killed in eastern baghdad this morning. security officials say rockets slammed into a joint u.s.-iraqi base where americans were working as advisers. it is the single largest loss of life for the u.s. military in iraq in the past two years. monday's blast was one of seven

across iraq. west of baghdad in ramadi, the home of a police officer was destroyed by a bomb. at least four people were killed. and in tikrit saddam hussein's hometown, a suicide bomber detonated a car at a check point outside a government compound killing at least six. it was the second attack there in four days. u.s. combat operations ended in iraq last august but the 46,000 american troops who remain as advisers and trainers come under almost daily attacks in their barracks and when they move around the country. all american forces are scheduled to leave iraq by the end of the year. joel brown, cbs news, washington. 29 americans have been killed in iraq this year. well, he says he's in it to win it. rick santorum launched his presidential campaign this morning. the former pennsylvania senator is a favorite among

conservative republicans. he opposes abortion, gay marriage, and stem cell research. santorum joins the race four days after former massachusetts governor mitt romney formally declared his candidacy. apple founder steve jobs is expected to make a rare public appearance today. jobs will briefly return from his medical leave to unveil apple's one cloud music service today. and it's actually the i-cloud. the i-cloud will permit customers to store and access music and other content on the internet instead of downloading it. former new york giants receiver plaxico burress was released from prison today. he served 20 months for violating new york's strict gun laws. in november of 2008, burress

84. so just about everybody in the low 80s, although annapolis still holding on to 77. mostly sunny skies, a light northeast wind at 6 miles per hour. watch the dew points. they're in the 50s now, but as we go through tomorrow and wednesday and thursday this number is going to rise to the 60s. hopefully not to the 70s because that is oppressive stuff. it is 11:00 in little rock, they're 86. houston already 94. it was 105 yesterday. that's unbelievable heat for them. a little thunderstorm complex north and east of chicago. we'll watch that. that's about the only action in town. today it's going to be quiet, but tomorrow this will start to come around and potentially fire up a few storms in the afternoon, and north and west of town, leesburg, frederick, maybe west of route 15, a better chance of seeing storms
