allegations. this is 9news now. >> a multimillion dollar jobs program designed to help dc kids safe over the summer is re- examining just how they do that tonight. >> two teenagers claimed to have been sexually assaulted within the last three days. both took place at program job sites and an employee of that department that runs the summer youth job program is under arrest. gary has more on the police investigation underway. >> reporter: as you know, the summer jobs program has been a staple of dc government for decades. a chance for kids to get off the streets. since wednesday, two teenagers are saying they were sexually assaulted. minnesota avenue northeast, a 16-year-old summer jobs worker says she was touched inappropriately by a department of employment services file clerk. >> we were able to identify the suspect and make an arrest.

>> but dc taxpayers are still paying the man. >> the person has been placed on administrative leave. >> anacostia high school, a 19- year-old summer jobs worker arrives for job early. >> it seems one of the contractors that was there assaulted her. >> e with have a suspect that we feel comfortable who was involved in this, so we'll be catching up with that person relatively soon. >> we're going to launch the most successful summer we have ever had. >> gray administration has been criticized, but ended up propuating more than $15 million for the program that pays kids $7.25 an hour. >> the youth start getting jobs now, we're better prepared when we go into the business world. >> if i can have a summer job, i can have more responsibilities. >> sexual assault was not part of the plan. >> e with are taking every measure we can to ensure the safety of the participants.

>> 14,000 kids in that program now they already had safety training, but will now get more as will their supervisors. derek and anita. thank you gary. new at 11:00, another reminder for cars and cyclists, watch out for each other. a car hit a woman on a bike near 35th place in northwest around 7:00. she was taken to the hospital with pretty serious injuries. now that driver did stay on the scene. no word yet if he'll be charged. just as we are all gearing up for a weekend of picnics and barbecues, some alarming new statistics out about lime disease in virginia. in this brand-new report, one of the most shocking assertions is that pregnant women may be able to transmit the disease to their unborn children. >> you heard right, michael has ten kids and seven of them have lime disease. he believes it's because his wife has the disease who transmitted it while pregnant. >> it's our best evidence that

they got it in utero. >> that's in part of a research and michael is the chairman. >> this is really changing the playing field. this is probably the most cutting edge report done in the country on lime disease. >> another alarming finding is that there's no test or blood test that can rule out lime disease. >> there are probably more than 1,000 clearly in northern virginia who have been told by doctors, we can rule out lime disease because of a particular test. they need to go back to the doctor. >> it took going back to a doctor for carmen to get the correct diagnosis that she has been waiting 15 years for. >> i have nerve pain. i have muscle pain. i have joint pain. i have my cognitive function has diminished considerably. >> car men now have chronic lyme disease. there's no known cure, but if she had gone to the doctor and taken antibiotics as soon as

she developed the rash, she would be fine. for that reason, both carmen and michael agree the key to beating lyme disease is public awareness and prevention. >> i remember being a kid in the 1950s where there was a big public concern about polio and everybody was paying attention to it. well we have to have that same kind of attention about lyme disease. >> this is troubling if you live in loudoun county. get this, the county is home to just 4% of virginia's population and yet it has nearly 20% of the state's cases of lyme disease. so if you're outside this weekend be sure to wear bug spray and don't just check yourself for ticks, but be sure to check your kids as well. anita, derek. thank you much. domonique has a $4 million mansion down in georgetown and tonight he is finally free to sleep in it again. today a judge in new york released him from house arrest all amid signs that the rape case the prosecutors have been building against him could soon

crumble. prosecutors admit they question the credibility of that hotel maid that said he forced himself on her. the charges still stand. >> our officer's commitment is to the truth and the facts and that will govern how we proceed. >> the rape charges forced him to resign as head of the international monetary fund and derailed plans for running for the presidency of france. he is convinced the prosecutors will soon drop those charges. the attorney for the hotel maid accuses prosecutors of abandoning the woman. how is this for a summer block buster? terminator 6 irreconcilable differences. yup, maria shriver filed for divorce from arnold schwarzenegger. i guess you could think that was only a matter of time. arnold fessed up to having a baby. they were married for 25 years. turning now to the casey

anthony murder trial in florida. despite the holiday weekend, closing arguments are set for sunday in orlando. both sides will have saturday off to prepare and to settle on final instructions for the jury. anthony is charged with murdering her two-year-old daughter, caylee, in 2008 to use duct tape to suffocate the child. the defense argues the child drowned and the death was covered up. a murder mystery in macon, georgia, has ties to our area. she has been missing since saturday. the 27-year-old lived in macon and there since graduating from law school. yesterday police found a dismembered body outside of giddings apartment complex. they will not say if it is in fact her. steven mcdaniel is behind bars after telling reporters he was inside her apartment shortly after giddings disappeared. >> she thought someone tried to break in on thursday night

and she was afraid to stay in there. >> mcdonnell is charged with burglary while authorities work to identify the body that has been found, standout student athlete at fulton high school. she was just home two weeks ago as maid of honor in her sister's wedding. police are looking for the suspects wanted in a deadly stabbing in hyattsville. it went down at a movie theater last night. police say a fight broke out between two groups of young people and somebody pulled out a knife and stabbed leanard smith matthews. eyewitnesses say there was blood everywhere and that 21- year-old young man died at the hospital. neighbors blame the crime on a combination of the bad economy and young people with not much better to do. >> the dry cleaner has their windows smashed. i had my car windows crashed. i had my laptop stolen. >> at one time they had

security people working around here, you know, move the people on. i don't know what happened. >> four other people were also hurt in that fight. police have not released any information about the suspects. >> tonight the heat was a huge drawback for firefighters right here in dc. two of them had to be treated for heat emotion after putting out the flames in northwest. that fire started around 5:00 in the 900 block of delaware decatur street. thankfully nobody hurt. it's fourth of july weekend, if you plan on heading down to the national mall to watch the big fireworks show, here's a few things you should know. if you can avoid driving into the district and take public transportation instead. to get a good seat, you are going to want to come early and keep in mind you're going to have to go through a security check point. now to a list of what you can and cannot bring. bring the bottled water, the food, the blankets, the sunscreen. all of that. things to leave at home, the

cups. the judge's ruling left too much uneaten burger in his cup and the remedy was a two-man faceoff. the winner of that furious pete who ate 17 burgers in ten minutes. so this was supposed to be the summer of the super hero movie black buster. while there were plenty of super hero movies, blockbuster have been in short supply. are we sick of the guys in tights? >> not exactly, anita. while i've been lining up to see green lantern and the rest of them, the thrill is just not what it used to be. i thought i was getting old, but i'm not alone. check out these numbers. grone an learn opened to just over $55 million. thor made $55 million. compare that do the dark knight. back in '08, it made $158 million in one weekend. you say that is a much better movie. what about spider man 3, which

was pretty sorry. it opened in may of '07 earning $151 million its first three days. what the heck happened? i think it's just the characters. batman, spiderman, even the x men are icons. they have great back stories, everyone knows about them. if you didn't grow up reading comics, have you heard of these guys? all the cool monsters in the world may not make you care what happens to them. now i am still holding out some hope for captain america which is coming our way later this summer, but frankly it's hard to get worked up. maybe i am getting old. anita. >> no. not even close. a group of swimmers got a rare treat off the coast of south florida while they were in the water, a whale shark came up to the group close enough for the swimmers to pet this giant fish. it's a kind of experience any diver or ocean enthusist would put on their bucket list. it's the largest fish in the

is why we are dry. a whole lot going on in our area and that will continue through saturday and for most of sunday it looks like. all right, so sticky on saturday. the humidity does go up a little bit, but not too bad. it will be hotter and muggier on sunday in some locations along with some isolated afternoon and early evening thunderstorms and it stays hot for the fourth of july. but not as muggy on monday. that's the good news there for all those folks who are going to be out. overnight clear and cool. open the windows, give the ac a break. lows will be 58 to 68 degrees and winds will be light. now tomorrow morning as you're waking up, your errands, it's going to be nice. mostly sunny and pleasant. temperatures in the 60s and 70s. light winds in the afternoon and it looks nice. partly cloudy to mostly sunny conditions. it will be slightly sticky and the air quality is code orange. unhealthy for sensitive groups and highs around 90 degrees.
