down webster street here and hopped into a jeep liberty. a burgundy jeep liberty proceeding to drive his jeep liberty over this curb, you can see paint mark, then appeared to have struck the victim right there, hitting the mitsubishi galant and that toyota sienna, proceeding northbound on 14th street and now is being actively searched for by metropolitan police. they are still processing the scene. we will have more on this at 11:00. >> all right, thank you. now, moving on to this story. guilty of first-degree murder. that is the verdict for carmela dela rosa. she is, as you know, probably the virginia woman who stood trial for tossing her 2-year- old granddaughter off a bridge at tyson's corner. she has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. the jury did not buy it. after finding her guilty, they

recommended a sentence of 35 years in prison for her. a judge will issue that formal sentence in january. now to the occupied wall street movement. it is spreading around the country in a pretty big way. in los angeles, police arrested about 11 anti-wall street protesters. they entered a bank of america during the downtown march. hundreds of people were out there. protests are also being held in the streets of utah where thousands braved the cold weather to get the message out. right here in washington, d.c., thousands marched on the u.s. chamber of commerce and they promised to occupy freedom plaza until the demands are met. they want more jobs, less corporate greed, and to the end on wars and more taxes on the rich. >> reporter: yeah, they have been making a lot of noise, these protesters all day today. take a look behind me right now. we have seen a steady stream of more protesters that are joining in on the activities here at freedom plaza.
7:02 pm
about 30 minutes ago they were talking on an open mic giving people instructions on what the rest of the night is going to be, derek. they are giving people plans on how they plan on staying here, occupying freedom plaza. and we are being told they were given a permit by u.s. parks to stay here through sunday. of course, they are not allowed to sleep here. i spoke to police officers who told us off camera that the folks who decide to spend the night here will not be allowed to sleep here, but they are, in fact, allowed to stay here to occupy the area. they have been at this all day again. as you mentioned earlier today, what they are asking for is more jobs, less corporate greed. they want to end wars and they want more taxes on the rich. as part of this, they marched up to the u.s. chambers of commerce, demanding jobs. a lot of these folks are holding resumes in hand. right now the night is falling here. a lot of folks are still pledging to occupy d.c. to occupy freedom plaza and, again, the numbers right now seem to be growing. we'll see how the rest of the night will go for these folks,
7:03 pm
derek? >> thank you for that one. now joining us right here in the studio is one of the organizers of occupied d.c. his name is david swanson. i guess on top of mind is exactly what is it that you're looking for because you have this broad range of demands that would be amazing if they could all be met. but what do you really want? >> majority rule, right? we have majority teammates, we are disregarded by our government. taxing the rich is the overwhelming majority. the rich are not getting taxed. ending the war, we are getting out of them. move the money from the military and the war machine to where we need it. peoples needs, infrastructure, jobs, it's not that complicated. >> a lot of this stuff with all due respect sounds like the left wing demand. we want, you know, guns, no butter, kids, not profit, all this kinds of stuff. what's different about this? >> left wing when the left wing is 85% of the country. then i will call it left wing, but these are majority demand. everybody says get the money

out of politics. this is not coming from a political party, not from a politician, it's coming from people. and people, not just marching and waving flags, but people that are willing to non- violently shut down offices day after day after day until we start to get some satisfaction. >> all right, now what would be a sign that you could end your protest and go home. because you're not going to end the wars tomorrow, you won't be getting jobs tomorrow. how will it all work out? >> well, i think we could have a cease fire in afghanistan today if the president wanted to have it, then we could get out of there within a few months if we wanted to do it. we could tax the wealthy, we could tax corporations. if congress put their mind to it, it could be done in a week. these are not difficult things, but the will power is not there, the political power is not there. but if we just begin to build the people's movement and build our awareness of our size and our strength and that there are 99% of us and 1% of them, and that we can influence our government even a little bit. and will it have started
7:05 pm
something different? >> is this really mostly about the economy that folks are angry with a lot of justification that there is no job out there? >> yeah, it is. but all the money going into jobs is going into the war machines. 65% of the discretionary spending is going into the war machine in one way or another. we are 10 years today. ten years this evening from going into the longest war in u.s. history in afghanistan with no end in sight. people are making the connection. >> now, herman cain says you guys need to go out and find jobs instead of protesting. and you'll find out to be a lot happier. >> uh-huh. thank you very much for that help. people have been struggling, fighting to fight jobs. people are out there every day searching for jobs. the jobs are not there. why aren't the jobs there? because we are given trillion dollar bailouts to bankers that have more money than how they know how to deal with -- than what they know how to deal with

it. >> how do you feel and the rage you feel with what happened to the tea party a couple years ago? >> well, there still is a tea party. they have one thing right. they are somewhat independent of the republican party. they pushed the government as a whole in the direction they want. for and there are some things we all agree with across the spectrum. no one likes him except the people that got through that move the, right? what we need from the left, the 75% of us that want peace and justice is something to push the whole government in the right direction without being under the umbrella of the democratic party. >> all right, whatnot? you have been protesting for weeks now. what now, what will make you begin to say that we have our demands met and we can sit back for a while? >> a spontaneous group called occupied d.c. has been there. we started today in freedom plaza. it's a much bigger crowd. and we are just getting started. when we start to see the culture moving in the right direction, california pulling

in the mail bag tonight, president obama using a morning news conference to crank up the pressure on the gop to follow his lead on fixing the economy. but lee from silver springs says basically blah blah blah. i would like to know why obama is talking about jobs, bridges, roads now, he had almost four years to do all this talking. basically that's why his numbers are falling. he's not doing anything, but talk, talk, talk. well you know what, lee, surveys seem to say a lot that way. and i would like to point out he's president, not the king. he cannot do much without the republican help, hence the blah blah blah. in the meantime over to the facebook page, reactions are still coming in on the death of steve jobs. unfortunately another person
