demonstrators tried to enter the building carrying large signs. they were protesting the use of drones in the war against afghanistan. security guards protested the protesters. a second guard used pepper spray on at least one protester, but several others appeared to be affected by that spray. >> we don't think that would be a museum such as this. we came to the doors and the guard and the police forces inside immediately pushed us out. pepper sprayed us, about 12 of us were pepper sprayed, treated here. >> we were in the mcdonald's restaurant and chased everyone out the door. >> one person was arrested. the air and space museum is scheduled to be open again on sunday. >> observers say some of the protesters are part of the bigger occupied dc movement, which of course is part of the nationwide demonstration that began on wall street. there is no one cause, one leader, or one agenda with this

order to really fix the system. >> well, it seems like the tea party sucked all the air out of public debate. and i think it's good that these people are gathering and really acting in democracy. key issue is how they translate that into sort of what their vision is and what they want. >> i care about the children who are not going to be taking care of by social security. >> all of this talk about low income and minority homeowners. the crisis is absolutely incorrect. nobody is going to jail for the crimes committed on wall street. >> wars, the education system. >> all of these things are important and they impact each other. you cannot talk about jobs without talking about healthcare. you can't talk about hunger issues without education. all of these things are connected and that's what we need to do to take our country back. >> the occupy d.c. movement has a permit through tomorrow. several thousand occupy wall street protesters marched in

new york city's washington square park for a peaceful demonstration today. they started out in manhattan where they have been camped out for the last 22 days. today's march was orderly. there have been issues in the past. >> hundreds of families tonight. their loved ones now headed to war in afghanistan. live at andrews air force base where the deployment is taking place. ken. >> this is a very special deployment for this group. we're talking about the f16 unit of dc's air national guard. these are the same folks responsible for scrambling jets in the event of an emergency here in washington. tonight, they are heading to afghanistan as a unit for the very first time. >> the bags are packed, hugs are tight, and emotions are running high tonight as more than 175 members of the d.c. air national guard head to afghanistan. >> looking forward to it. all the preplanning we have done, worked really hard. >> we are hoping to set a good

precedence for the air national guard and make sure the air force knows we are up to the fight. >> although this is the first deployment for this group as a unit, many have individually been to afghanistan before. some will turn in december and others are expected to stay through next year. families say not knowing exactly when they'll get to see their loved ones again is especially heartbreaking. >> it's hard to say good-bye every time you leave, we know he's going to do a great job and kick some butt over there. >> it's hard. you don't want to see your sibling go off or any family members go off. >> many of these airmen and women understand there is work still left to be done, others are left skeptical. for some families, frustration exists over yet another deployment where the number of troops should be on the decline. >> it is painful thoughts to think that everybody is still going back in. but hopefully there's another mission that we need to accomplish. i'm not sure what it is.

>> it will take two days for the unit to take it to afghanistan. not all of them are going, of course, because they are responsible for keeping those f- 16's on the ready in case of an emergency here, some of them have to stay behind and make sure that job is fulfilled. live at andrews air force base, 9news now. >> thanks for that. family and friends, they don't want you to forget about him. they held a vigil today for the missing alexandria activist. disappeared last month after leaving the recreation center in alexandria. the 53-year-old was last seen on september 20. after police say he received a phone call from an unknown person and then left the recreation center. the next morning, his family reported him missing. police found harris' cell phone on the bridge. >> we are here today to do a celebration, to collect money to add to the fund. >> you know, please come

forward if you have knowledge. just say something. he is well loved around here and i want my father back. >> harris' light blue toyota corolla is still missing. somebody may have used his bank card at an old town atm machine last month. that same person tried to use the card at a prince georges county bank. we want to talk to the person seen on surveillance camera using harris' bank card. that person is described as a black male with a mustache, small goatee, tattoos on his right and left forearms. >> fight in the cleaning aisle of a maryland wal-mart store sends 19 people to the hospital. police say it happened today at a wal-mart store outside of baltimore. they say a woman poured bleach and pine sol on another woman during a fight. that prompted managers to evacuate the entire store for nearly two hours. the fumes from the cleaning material sent 19 people to the hospital. one of them taken to the eye

institute with a possible serious injury. the two women who fought had an on going dispute. the female who initiated the attack turned herself in. tonight, charges are pending against her. >> a fatal crash leaves a young man dead tonight. nashan was a passenger in a hyundai sai sanata. he died at the scene. police identified the 21-year- old driver of the vehicle as danielle donaldson. she was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. cause of the crash is under investigation tonight. drivers should prepare for road closures in arlington and washington tomorrow ahead of the army ten mile race. the race begins at 8:00 in the morning in arlington, crosses the memorial bridge into the nation's capital. the runners will cross through parts of the national mall and downtown washington before returning to arlington. the finish line for the army ten miler is near the pentagon. metro plans to open one hour

a man and a woman are found dead in a bethesda home. police are calling it an apparent murder suicide. police found the bodies of tracy and martin inside o'tool's home. authorities were called to the residence this morning after a family member could not reach the man. police have not said how the pair died. >> social conservatives meeting here in washington picked congressman ron paul up. their candidate in the gop presidential race. paul got 37% of the vote in a nonbinding straw poll. as drew reports, religion dominated the event as mitt romney responded to attacks on his mormon beliefs. >> gop presidential hopeful, mitt romney, urged conservatives that the values voters summit in washington not to let religion divide them. >> it doesn't advance our cause, it never covenned a single mind. >> romney accused brian fisher of the american family association of crossing the

line about his mormon beliefs. >> mormonism is outside the mainstream of christian. that's not majority. that's not a slam. that's just a statement of objective historical fact. >> fisher's comments came a day after rick perry supporter, preacher robert said, he would not vote for romney because he's a mormon. >> historic christianity has always treated mormonism as a cult. it does not embrace christianity. >> he introduced perry at the washington gathering. the texas governor was asked about the minister's cult remark friday. >> mormonism a cult? >> no. >> a cbs news poll reveals 42% of white evangelicals said most people they know wouldn't vote for a mormon. during the primary in 2008, evangelicals made up 44% of a republican voters. >> there are some things that concern me about that

today's weather provided the perfect backdrop for the taste of d.c. celebration. more than 60 of the city's most popular eatlies are participating in the event. there's a world chili eating championship, a beer garden, culinary demonstration, family entertainment, and of course a main stage. part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the american red cross. red for the city and luke's wins continues from 10:00 in the morning until 10:00 tomorrow evening and on monday on 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 p.m. and what kind of forecast can they expect? >> absolutely perfect for the end of that event and anything else you have planned for the long three-day weekend. we've been well above average for the last several days and we're going to continue a little while longer. but there are a few changes in the forecast coming our way. not until we get back to the workweek. you'll see all those details.

right now, we are fairly comfortable. temperatures are on the mild side, just now cooling down. we are talking about upper 50s, lower 60s. inside the beltway. we are going to drop off to chilly lows early morning hours. if your going to be out and about, have that jacket with you. what you need to know over the next 24 hours, well, if you have an early start, there could be fog around. sparse from here from location to location, but it could slow you down on that morning drive. another great day on your sunday afternoon. we are going to see temperatures close to that 80- degree mark again. we'll keep our winds calm. a few degrees warmer on columbus day as well. rain is going to make a comeback. i've been tracking the system off the coast of florida. and that will definitely impact us by the middle of the week. not much showing here. it's basically starting it off on the afternoon hours. we'll basically pull in some moisture as we go in towards the later portions of your

monday morning. and that's when you'll start to see change in the cloud cover. a little bit of cloud cover monday afternoon on columbus day. there is no green here, so we aren't going to see any precipitation. go ahead with those plans. clear and cool conditions will allow that fog to form early on in the morning with temperatures down into the 40s and 50s. right around 54 degrees for the city center. but notice upper 50s toward manassas and we'll definitely see cool temperatures linger until about the 10:00 hour. then we'll get a bump up in our daytime heating. mostly sunny skies for tomorrow as well. we'll look at temperatures moving on up. we are talking about upper 70s, near 80 degrees for most locations and that means another spectacular day. so the outlook for the next seven days, not going to be too bad. we are well above average. normally we see 71, 72 degrees this time of year. we're going to keep it closer to 80 as we get in toward monday and into tuesday, we'll

raiders passed away at the age of 82. a former assistant for the colts, just win, baby. and that's exactly what his team did. winning 15 conference titles and three super bowls, mr. davis once said, i don't want to be the most respected team in the league. i want to be the most feared. he was controversial, colorful, pushed boundaries, he was also one of the most respected men in the nfl. the redskins released this following statement. the nfl and fans have benefited from al davis unique contributions to the game of football on and off the field. his passionate commitment to excellence will never be forgotten and always admired. moving on to baseball. game one of the alcs and bottom of the 4th. rangers up 2-0. cruz makes it 3- 0. solo bond to left. the game was delayed due to the rain as the grounds crew comes out. right now, 3-2 texas in the top of the 5th. finally tonight, the redskins are on a bye this week.
