good morning everybody. happy columbus day. good to see you. i'm terrell brown in for betty nguyen. over the weekend, at least 25 cities from coast-to-coast saw demonstrations. their aimed at the financial industry and the government's failure to get the economy moving. we go to susan mcginnis in washington with more. susan, good morning to you. >> reporter: terrell, good morning. you know, the spread of these protests are making some say they are gaining legitimacy and political clout but some say it's an an emotional outcry a and not a true movement, but either way, whatever it is, washington is noticing. protesters camped out blocks from the capital say they won't leave, even when their permit expires today. >> we had to be prepared to vacate or be arrested when they come and we still have to be pleped. >> reporter: it's a similar picture of determination and frustration across the country.

>> we got sold out. >> reporter: from new york city, where the occupy wall street movement first began. >> wall street. >> reporter: to california and the south. >> this is what is left. >> reporter: americans young and old are taking to the streets, protesting corporate greed, social inequality and dysfunction in washington. >> the rich are getting richer and the poorer are getting poorer. >> greed everywhere. we are losing our middle class. >> reporter: the protests showing no sign of letting up. >> i regard the wall street protest as a natural outcome of a bad education situation and teaching them dumb ideas. >> people want to protest the success of somebody else. >> reporter: newt gingrich and herman cain slammed the movement sunday, but house minority leader nancy pelosi defended it. >> i support the message to the establishment, whether it's wall street or the political establishment and the rest, that

change has to happen. >> reporter: demonstrators plan to keep at it until change does happen. they are calling for protests across the world next week. some protests planned for this week, there's a demonstration in front of the mortgage bankers association meeting in chicago. also an anti-columbus day rally in new york. terrell? >> susan mcginnis in washington for us this morning, thank you. wall street is also bracing for a possible cyberattack. a week or so ago, a threat from hackers anonymous threatened to strike the computer system today. some members of anonymous have called that threat a fake. this week, obama administration including the attorney general over the bungled fast and furious gun operation. program run by the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms deliberately aloued more than 2,000 gun float across the border in mexico.

the problem is the atf lost track of most of those guns. they started showing up at crime scenes both in mexico and arizona. one of the guns even turned up at a shoot-out that killed brian terry, a u.s. customs agent. they believe that eric holder knew about the operation earlier than he acknowledged last may. >> i'm not sure of the exact date but probably heard about fast and furious the last few weeks. >> i answer he didn't know about it until two weeks earlier. that is disingenuous on its face. there was a dramatic rescue off the coast of florida. seven people stayed alive treading water up to 20 hours after their boat sank. the boat cap-sized and sank in rough water on saturday. no one was wearing life jackets. one woman, 80 years old drouped. seven others on board, including a 4-year-old girl, drifted

apart. three were rescued by a passing boat. the others an hour later by the coast guard. kansas city still no leads in the case of a missing 10-month-old baby. her parents say she was abducted from a crib last week. the parents start cooperating on police on thursday but met again with detectives on saturday. >> we are sitting at the same table together now with the mother and father and no doubt about it, that is our best bet to help find this child. >> reporter: police searched a neighborhood and nearby landfill but found nothing. a tornado that struck san antonio, texas, left several families homeless this morning. cut a path of a destruction a mile and a half long. the same storm system dumped more than 3 inches of rain on that region but it wasn't enough to put a dent in this year's historic drought. in the pacific, hurricane jova is headed toward the west coast of mexico. it is a category 2 storm and

sustained winds near 100 miles per hour and stronger gusts. jova is expected to turn to the northeast tomorrow, strengthen and approach resort areas on the mexican coast by tuesday afternoon. overseas battles between christians and muslims in egypt left at least 24 dead. at least 200 were wounded in sunday's ballots. the fighting in downtown cairo was triggered by an attack on a christian church in southern egypt. dozens have been arrested. this was the worst spat of violence that pushed former president hosni mubarak from power this past summer. to the president race now. on friday, pastor robert jeffress of dallas endorsed texas governor rick perry and then said why he wasn't backing romney. >> in my estimation, mormonism is a cult and it would give credence to a cult to have a mormon candidate. >> romney is calling for a civil and respectful debate. yesterday, when asked about

romney's faith, his gop rival side-stepped the issue. drew levinson reports. >> reporter: from the campaign stumps. >> i am a believer in jesus christ. >> reporter: to the sunday talk shows. >> i'm a lifelong christian. >> reporter: the gop presidential candidates answered questions about their religion, but shied away from commenting on candidate mitt romney's mormon faith. >> i am not going to do an analysis of mormonism verse christianity for the sake of answering that. >> i think none of us should sit in judgment on somebody else's religion. >> reporter: anti-mormon sentiments surfaced this weekend at the value voters summit. the candidates didn't say it but some of the participants characterized the religion as being outside the mainstream, a cult. some evangelicals say they don't believe mormon are christians. >> to make this an issue is ridiculous right now. because every day i'm on the street talking to people, this is not what people are talking about. >> reporter: but people on the street are talking about how

this week turns to corporate earnings. stocks dipped friday after a disappointing jobs report, but still made slid gains for the week. the dow was up more than 1.5%, while the nasdaq was up almost 3%. gas prices are in reverse according to aaa. the national average is now $3.39 for a gallon of regular. and the price has gone down every day for a month. we are paying about a quarter less than four weeks ago, but still 60 cents more than the same time last year. detroit's labor problems may be over, at least for a few years. union leaders from chrysler are meeting today reportedly to finalize a new contract. talks between the uaw and chrysler have been hung up over profit sharing and entry level jobs. chrysler is the only detroit automaker still without a new labor agreement. at the movies, 1-2 punch for "real steel." it took in better than an expected $27 million to win the

25-14. they remain undefeated. in houston, oakland visiting. fans and players remember the raiders legendary owner al davis who died saturday. jason campbell threw two touchdown passes to put oakland up by five over the texans. michael huff's interception, though, 7 seconds on the clock that nailed it. following davis' order, just win, baby. raiders did it 25-20. philadelphia, the so-called dream team is dreaming of getting a second win. the eagles michael vick picked off four times by buffalo. it's the most interceptions he's ever had in one game. the bills clipped the eagles 31-24. philadelphia now 1-4, their worst start since 1999. finally, tiger woods was playing in ace his pga tour event in seven weeks. an odd thing happened here. take a look. wood was about to putt on the 7th when a fan threw a hot dog at him. the incident, by the way, not captured on video. and the hot dog never came close to hitting woods. the fan was arrested for
