weather forecast. it is not bad. >> not at all. >> no, temperatures will be in a good zone if you're a runner, just like to get outside. 60s and low 70s. very comfortable for those folks who like to exercise. the rain will hold off. tomorrow is a flat out wet day around here. 50s in the suburbs. 69 by noon and cloudy skies. some showers now in southern virginia that could be close by the afternoon. in some spots. we'll watch that. you might want to grab the rain gear just to be on the safe side. in fact, we're watching the moisture. you can see it now into north carolina sneaking into southern virginia. right along that lower 20% of virginia here. down across southwestern virginia, out toward asheville. this is all going to be lifting north over the next couple of days. temperatures, we're in the 60s. 65 in annapolis. 50s north and west. where the skies are cleared out

a little bit, that has helped fog to form. leonardtown was down a little less. now they're sitting at a mile visibility. highs today a lot cooler than yesterday when we were in the low 80s. today, 72 for washington. 69 in fredericksburg. about 71 in leesburg. monika? >> you know, i've changed the light to yellow not because it is too terrible but just a couple of little things going on i'm going to show you. on the beltway, it is fine. we'll zoom into the south side of town. there is a disabled vehicle right here in springfield. let's take a live look at route 644 sitting in the right lane causing delays up from lorton at about route 642 to this point. you're ok as you head to 395. we'll take you back over to the map. this time on 66, an accident reported right here near nutley street. so, expect some slow traffic as you head through from oakton to that point. otherwise, you'll be ok. we'll take a live look at the

american legion bridge. no problems here as you head south from 270 across the bridge span into tysons corner. a quick look at your trains, everything is running on time this morning. in my next report, we'll take another look at the incidents coming up next. back to you, andrea and mike. >> here is a look at what's happening today. the former marine accused of firing shots at the pentagon and marine corps museum is expected to plead guilty on larceny charges. jonathan melaku is charged with break-ins. just last month, authorities say melaku tried to escape from his jail cell in loudoun county. protestors occupying d.c. can stick around awhile longer. that's for sure. demonstrators in the antiwar and anticorporate greed protest have now accepted an offer by u.s. park police to extend their permit by four months. the protestors who spent the past four days camping in city street and plaza near the white house said they are discussing

that offer. similar protests have been taking place all around the country. >> a bus passenger is now in police custody and a bus driver is being treated for stab wounds after a bizarre incident on a metrobus. authorities say it happened at the silver spring metro station last night. they say that male passenger was exposing himself while riding in the back of the bus. then they say he stabbed the bus driver when he was confronted and ran off. police caught the suspect a few blocks later. the bus driver suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. 50 people are without a place to stay this morning after a fast-moving fire tore through an apartment building in langley park. >> it happened at the bedford stations apartment in the 1400 block of university boulevard where surae chinn is live there to tell us about the tenant's fight with management. good morning, surae. >> good morning, andrea. good morning, mike. the fire spread very, very quickly. i'm standing in front of a pile of debris here. laying on the ground. firefighters fought this fire but they were trying to save it

and there was no chance for them. you see a mattress laying on the ground. a door and some -- windows, thrown out as firefighters fought this fire but in the end, security is telling me they work here each and every day. there are 36 units, not 11 there were burned at the bedford station apartments located at 14th and university boulevard. 50 people we know are now without a home. maybe not all of the 36 units were occupied but we know 50 of them are now in a new place. everyone got out safely when the fast-moving fire tore through a third story apartment last night. by the time firefighters arrived, the fire was well advanced, shooting through the roof and a big challenge firefighters face was the multiple roofs. it has one layer that is flat and the second one is not. >> we had firefighters on the roof that had to be pulled off because of a fire that came through the roof. it was pretty tenuous situation

for about 20 minutes until we were able to get water on the fire. >> well, at first, tenants were very, very upset with no place to go and on top of losing everything but we did talk to security officers here who say the management team has been helping these people out, trying to place them in existing vacant apartments here on the compound here. this all happened after the advocacy group for some of these immigrants to help them get a place to stay, kind of urged the management. so, hopefully they'll at least have a place to stay in the next coming days and weeks to come so they can have a more permanent situation. mike, andrea? >> all right, surae. thank you for that update from langley park, maryland. >> one obviously was not enough for isaac custalow. he married four women who had no knowledge of each other faces sentencing on a bigamy charge. he's facing prosecution on two other charges. court orders show custalow

married a woman in chesapeake in 2000. he married a second woman in henrico in 2008. he took a third wife in hopewell in 2009 and tied the knot again with wife number four, that happened this year in virginia beach. now, when number four found out about wives one, two, and three, she left him but she came back after a month. the mother-in-law says they're back together. until he goes to jail. >> that story is unbelievable. it is unbelievable. >> could be a tv story. >> it could be. >> a big love. >> well, there is a new report from census bureau officials showing that american incomes fell more after the recession than they did during it. according to the study, the median household income fell 3.2% during the recession. that's from december 2007 through june of 2009. but since then, the median household income fell 6.7% to just over $49,900.

the arlington food assistance center has seen a spike in demand. normally the center serves about 1450 families each week. two weeks ago, the number jumped to 1572 families. the center attributes the increase to the slow economy. >> we're still seeing lots of individuals who are unemployed, underemployed and individuals who are even if they are employed, are simply not making enough money to sustain their families. >> the center says the arlington community has been very helpful with it support but especially now, it is hoping the community continues to make generous donations. authorities in investigating the disappearance of 10-month-old lisa irwin has subpoenaed footage from kansas city tv stations with hopes of finding the child. >> investigators staged a break- in at climbed through a window to see how a kidnapper might have entered the home and snatched lisa from her crib.

the 10-month-old has been missing for a week. police are only saying that detectives are pursuing leads but they're at the mercy of the next good lead. now, there has been an intense media focus on the search for little lisa this past week. >> however, there have been thousands of other missing child cases that actually fail to capture the nation's attention. susan mcginnis has the story of one of those kids. >> 8-month-old jaden dave has never met his older brother, joshua. he was born just weeks after joshua disappeared during a family gathering at their san antonio, texas, home, last february. >> we picked up the crib up. we looked inside the dryer and we seen no sign of him. >> police launched a massive search in the days following joshua's disappearance but even with the offer of a $20,000 reward, joshua has yet to be found. what's more, his family says they're frustrated by the amount of media coverage their story has received, especially

when compared to similar cases like that of missing missouri toddler lisa irwin. >> it kind of makes me mad that eight months later into the case, we're barely getting national media coverage. >> joshua's case isn't unique. of the thousands of missing children reported each year, only a select few receive a heightened level of coverage. experts say each of those cases often meets a certain criteria. >> the media looks first at whether the case is sensational. if there is an indication that a family member may be involved. police officials told cbs news that they don't believe joshua's parents were involved in his disappearance. 8 months after he went missing, joshua's family feels the case deserves more attention. >> why don't we have that coverage? why isn't our case being looked at the same way. >> an innocent helpless child that doesn't want nothing but to be home where he's loved.

a falls church neighborhood. after a dad and his two sons built it in the front yard. >> the kids are thrilled with their new playhouse so why are fairfax county officials considering tearing it down? lindsey mastis has more on this story. >> it was promised me before i deployed on my last deployment to iraq. >> mark spent six weekends building the treehouse with his sons ages 9 and 11. they're scouts. >> eric not only earned part of its woodwork merit badge but public speaking. as well as his citizenship in the community merit badge. >> but the treehouse might have to come down. he called fairfax county's building office and he he is he was told he didn't need a permit. >> i had no idea there was a zoning ordinance office that i had to step through. >> he spent $1400 in materials to build in. $1900 to the county but they say still say it has to come down. >> yes, tears.

closer to where the moisture is, a chance for a few showers developing. temperatures still up near the 70 degree mark. have had some fog this morning. leonardtown reporting 3/4 mile visibility. 3/4 from hagerstown to cumberland. half-mile in petersburg. the rest of us, no real fog problems. our temps running in the 50s and 60s. lovettsville at 53. we've got 59 in laytonsville. to the east, few 50s from college park and baden and prince george's county. we go down south to the lower 60s and 59 at fort belvoir. great falls at 58. winds are light. brett at herndon said it is 57 out there. getting ready to bike to work. calm winds, humidity up at 87%. our storm system really hit florida hard the last few days. it is finally moving north. it is starting to get a little tropical moisture as well. we're looking at potentially some more moderate rainfall in spots.

maybe heavy rain in spots overnight into wednesday. depending on exactly where the stuff ends up. one thing that's got me concerned for the afternoon is how quickly this stuff is moving north. the models are being a little bit slow with moving in north of the border. about here. models still have it mainly in north carolina. i do think this afternoon, we do face that threat for some of the showers sneaking farther north than with a we're showing you. they barely have it to roanoke, it could be fredericksburg or southern maryland. tonight, some of the showers start to move in. looks like western areas may see more rain than around here tomorrow into the afternoon and evening. still, some pretty good rains at times with the potential for some showers and storms. late tomorrow afternoon. before this pulls out by thursday morning. another piece of energy streaming up, more showers late thursday into early friday. today, low 70s.

that you thank you for starting your tuesday with us. i'm andrea roane. >> i'm mike hydeck. temperatures in the upper 50s, lower 60s. mr. bernstein says rain is on the way. >> outside right now, very comfortable. winds are light and with temps in northwest in the low 60s. i don't think you need a jacket. as far as the rain, we may get some of that later this afternoon. but a much better chance we'll get into the rain overnight into wednesday. wednesday looks like a wet day. today looks like a cloudy day with a chance for showers this afternoon. highs will make it into the low 70s with the noon and 5:00 p.m. temperature, 69 degrees. we're cloudy and 63. still dark. sunrise doesn't occur until 7:12. there is all of the moisture coming in toward southern virginia right now. i was looking at the

legion bridge. 270 is slowing down right around route 109. back out to the map. this time, we'll zoom into the south side of town. you have got that slow traffic trying to get into springfield, that earlier disabled vehicle at route 644 was part of the problem. northbound route 1 right before quantico near telegraph road, i'm hearing it is a bit difficult to get around a crash there as well. so, keep that in mind for your travel plans. if you're planning to head over to 95, let's take a live look at 395, the normal slow traffic in landmark. now a look at your travel times. we'll start off with the toll road coming in from hunter mill to the beltway. 66 in from 7100. now slowing down at 17 minutes. 295 to the 11th street bridge, a 10 minute ride in that stretch. i'll give you more on the incidents i just talked about at 6:46. >> 50 people are homeless this morning after a fast-moving fire raced through their

apartment building in langley park. >> this was at bedford stations apartments on university boulevard where we find surae chinn this morning to tell us about the tenants and their on- going fight with management even before this fire. surae, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it was high emotions because everyone lost their home. in fact, 36 units destroyed but i want to show you how large this building is. it is humongous. in fact, there are three buildings attached to one another. the security says not 11 but 36 units destroyed 50 people, lost their homes here. but we are learning, in fact, that they weren't left out in the cold. this they were able to find shelter. the red cross has helped out and the management team has worked to help get them a place to stay within the complex and some of the vacant apartments here in the complex at bedford station apartments off university boulevard in langley park on 14th street here. dozens of people ran out of

their apartment as the fire raced through but there was a lot of confusion after the fact because tenants were told by the management that they were on their own to try to find another place to live. that's when the advocacy group stepped in to help. >> this building was originally a flat roof buildings. the fire was well advanced in the third floor apartment, got into the flat roof but then the roof that's been put on top of that is a pitched roof which creates that large void above there. when those fires get into those multiple roofs, they create dangerous situations for our firefighters, ultimately, they have fire burning in the places they haven't been able to get to. >> they came here on the scene to fight for the tenants who felt like they were left out in the cold with no place to live. but they were able to find a place but we just don't know the exact long-term plan for some of the people because obviously they can't come back here to their apartments here in bedford station but

hopefully they'll be able to stay on site or in a shelter or with the red cross for the time being until they find that permanent situation. back to you, mike, andrea. >> thank you, surae live in langley park, maryland. >> the government investigation into the 2001 anthrax attacks is coming underfire once again. this time, the heat in this story is being applied by an expert on the disease at lsu. letters containing the anthrax killed five people back then and the fbi said a researcher at fort detrick was likely the culprit in the case. however, that researcher, bruce ivans died of an apparent suicide before investigators could file charges. now, the disease expert, martin hugh jones said the anthrax was manipulated in a way that was probably beyond ivan's capability and involving chemicals that fort detrick lab didn't even have. federal investigators, however, stand behind their earlier findings. >> new fears that the uprising in libya could be a boon for

terrorists. thousands of portable missiles from moammar gadhafi's regime may be missing. gadhafi had stockpiled up to 20,000 portable antiaircraft missiles and the u.s. is very concerned that during the civil war, some of those shoulder fired missiles may have been smuggled across libya's borders. they could reach groups, including al-qaeda. >> why are these weapons so attractive to militant groups? >> they're guided which means that input from the operator after the missile leaves the launch tube is minimal. it guides itself to the target. they're lightweight. 35 to 40 pounds. >> and they can fit into the truck of a car, hit a target two and a half miles away and bring down a commercial airplane. a state department expert is on the ground with nine contractors doing inventories of sites where the weapons have been stored. time now for "your money" report this morning. jessica doyle is off today. >> here's alexis christoforous with this morning's business

news. >> earnings season unofficially kicks off after today's closing bell. that is when the aluminum giant alcoa reports its results. jpmorgan chase and google are among other companies due to report quarterly earnings this week. on wall street, stocks had their best day in six weeks after leaders of france and germany promise to strengthen europe's banks. the dow industrials climbed 330 points, a gain of about 3%. the nasdaq rose nearly 87. strikes could disrupt air travel this week. flight attendants for air canada rejected a deal and served a strike notice. the airline could face a strike on thursday. germany's air-traffic controller's union has decided to stage a walkout as early as wednesday. that could delay or cancel flights across europe. get ready to pay a lot more for peanut butter. a hot, dry summer in parts of the country devastated this year's peanut crop. wholesale prices for brands including jif and peter pan are

sets at about 6:36 this afternoon. our day planner, cloudy skies at 8:54. by noon, 69. still cloudy. this afternoon, we may see a couple of showers developing from south to north. especially south of washington going down toward richmond or norfolk. bring the rain gear with you. roanoke as well. 66 at 8:00. by then, we'll have a few showers around for sure. we've got a lot of moisture down in the carolinas which is lifting northward this morning. it is not raining in richmond but norfolk over toward roanoke, that seems to be the line where things are reaching the ground. we're seeing stuff north of that. that's not reaching the ground. the air is still too dry. check out dew points, we're now over 60 in fredericksburg and pax river, tappahannock and easton. dew points still in the 40s in the mountains. drier air is being replaced by this more humid air and that's a sign that we do have some rain on the way. our temperatures, they're running in the 40s in cumberland. up in york, pennsylvania.

low 60s across much of southern maryland down to the south and east of town. where it is the coolest, that seems to be where we're seeing fog in places like cumberland and martinsburg. even leonardtown reporting fog there in calvert county. winds are calm. cloudy skies at reagan national with a dew point of 59. humidity right now, 87%. our problems, all going to come from this storm system in the southeast and the short term then this guy right here, see the showers there west of chicago. could get some of that as we head into late friday and saturday. tropical moisture being drawn northward. little looser now into southern george. still the moisture flows across the carolinas headed up toward virginia, kentucky and tennessee. and one thing i'm bothered by this morning when i look at the future cast, i don't think it is showing the northward extent of the moisture. down in north carolina. we already know it is raining in norfolk and richmond. really, the green is about 100

miles south of where it should be. as we go through the afternoon, moisture more that way as opposed to north. i do think for most of the day, we'll stay with the clouds and not the rain. some of the rain could be approaching some of our southern and southwestern suburbs. tonight, the rain comes in. looks like it is going to target areas more toward west virginia. southern ohio. potentially eastern tennessee than around here but it will get here tomorrow and at times tomorrow, we could have some heavy rain in spots. we've got some one or two inch rain totals between now and thursday morning. that would not be out of the question. today, we're look at low 70s, cloudy skies. some late showers possible. tonight, wednesday, some rain at times. 67. thursday, a few showers returning, 72. friday morning, a couple of showers with highs around 70. saturday and sunday, your weekend looks better. temperatures in the 60s. sunday in the 70s. monika samtani, timesaver traffic. >> thank you so much, howard. i'm giving you the yellow light

original musical about the trials and tribulations of breast cancer. it debuts at the jcc theatre in rockville, maryland this friday. eileen is the show's executive producer and she joins with us more. good morning, eileen. thanks for being here with us. you were telling me before we started that producing this play has been a dream of yours. why and why musical theatre? >> i've been in theatre for 45 years doing mostly amateur shows. but i wanted to create a show that had meaning. because i believe that musical theatre can affect people like no other medium can. also, i was at a point in my life where i was fortunate enough to be able to have the time and the resources to be able to do this groundbreaking show. there is no show like it. most of the shows about breast cancer are usually people's personal experiences and their monologues. there is another drama show. but we wanted to do a musical because i love musicals. >> you say there is a lot of humor because trials and

tribulations of breast cancer could be quite a downer. >> it could be. but one of the things we learned in doing our research was that humor was very important. every day to get through this awful journey. so, the show is funny. it is poignant and it is hopeful. >> talk about the research you did. i understand to get the words for the book and the lyrics for the music came from interviews that you did across this country. >> i put a posting out on harrow, help a reporter out and within 48 hours, i had 50 people from around the country who had written me e-mails saying they were willing to talk to me. i spent between an hour and an hour and a half with each of them to get a sense of what their journey had been like and the things they had faced and what this he had taken away from it. how they had used that to change their life, change their career, et cetera. then went back and we reinterviewed some of the people in person. the playwright, lisa hayes and

i. and the composer and lyrics is joan kushing, husband, unfortunately was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and he died four months later. joan felt that she took a lot of that experience and channeled it into this show. >> how many characters in the show? whose experiences do we see on stage? >> we originally follow four characters, men and women of different ages and backgrounds from diagnosis through treatment over a period of years. and then there are one or two surprises. >> ok. surprises. again, it debuts friday and another performance on saturday. and you really are excited about people coming out and seeing this, so much so, that you've made sure this is going to be put on. you put your own money into it. >> i had a very fortunate life and my husband is a very generous man and he believes in the show as do i. so, we put our money where our mouth is.

firing shots at the pentagon is expected to plead guilty on larceny charges. jonathan melaku is charged with a series of vehicle break-ins in leesburg. the case involving the shootings has been put on hold. melaku tried to escape from his jail cell in loudoun county. demonstrators in an antiwar and anticorporate greed protest in downtown washington have accepted an offer by u.s. parks police to extend their permit by four months. the protestors who spent the past four days camping in the city's freedom plaza near the white house say they're discussing the offer. similar protests have been taking place around the country.
