gaithersburg and germantown. annapolis seeing the showers. southern maryland, down to the northern neck headed your way shortly. temperatures are running around 60 in the shenandoah valley. mid-60s here in the metro. upper 60s down in the northern neck and southern maryland. monika is stepping in. it has been a busy morning early. >> definitely to the east side of town, howard. that's why i'm keeping it at yellow, not only because of an early morning accident at the bay bridge but also as howard said, with the rain and leaves as well out on the roads. let's take a look first of all on the bay bridge. on the westbound span, there were three vehicles. it was cleared about half an hour ago but did lea some delays on the westbound. eastbound you're ok leaving annapolis. now taking a look at duke street, no problems here. from springfield right up to the 14th street bridge, you'll be ok this morning. let's go over to the beltway in tysons corner. no problems at route 7 as we travel on the west side between the american legion bridge and 66, you'll be ok.

if you're planning to take the trains this morning, there are no problems on metro, vre or marc. everything is running on time. coming up, we'll take a look into the district at 5:09. andrea and surae. >> an international murder-for- hire plot planned to go down right here in our nation's capital. an iranian-born u.s. citizen is in a new york jail this morning. >> he's accused of plotting to kill saudi arabia's ambassador to the u.s. with a bomb in a d.c. restaurant. kristin fisher joins us live from the saudi arabian embassy. >> it is surprisingly quiet out here outside the saudi arabian embassy awn day after all of this news broke. this is the official complaint from the justice department and it names two defendants. one is in custody. the other, a member of iranian special operations unit is still at large likely in iran. the man in custody is 56-year-

old manssor arbabsiar. he hired a hitman that he believed worked for a mexican drug cartel. he was an informant. he was arrested in jfk on september 29th. not only has he confessed, he's already identified iranian officials. both men were charged in new york federal court on conspiring to kill the saudi ambassador to the u.s. so far, iran has denied all of the charges. >> this conspiracy was conceived, was sponsor and directed from iran and constitutes a flagrant violation of u.s. and international law. >> kind of action which violates international norms, must be ended. >> reporter: secretary of state hillary clinton is calling for what she calls a chorus of international condemnation of iran. she and other senior state officials will be calling on countries to enforce existing sanctions and possibly

implement new ones in the days and weeks to come. surae, andrea? >> kristin, we talk about that this was going to happen at a d.c. restaurant. do we have any idea which restaurant was being targeted? >> reporter: that is a question that so many washingtonians want to know. it is a question we'll likely learn an answer to in the next few days or weeks. it is not listed in this official complaint. what the complaint does say is that this informant -- excuse me, the iranian in contact with the d.e.a. informant said he was trying to target a restaurant the saudi ambassador frequented twice a week. when he was told it was a restaurant frequented by senators and casualties could be widespread, that iranian then allegedly told the informant that he didn't care so the possibility if this were to go through that there would be mass casualties here on u.s. soil, possibly caused by the

iranian government, just has huge implications for all of the governments going forward. they vary in an interesting situation we'll watch unfold during the days and weeks to come. the woman accused of stabbing a stranger outside a target store yesterday has apparently done this before. surveillance video from the mitchellville target shows the woman wearing a black hoody. police say she is antoinette starks and that after her credit card didn't clear, she ran out of the store with a pack of knives and stabbed a woman several times in the torso. the victim is hospitalized in stable condition. records show starks was found not criminally responsible for a 2005 attack at the nordstrom in westfield montgomery mall and order into a mental institution. the tuesday evening commute was frightening for thousands of metro riders. it started when a man jumped on to the tracks at the clarendon station. he was struck and seriously

injured by a train. now, that forced outbound orange line trains to unload all passengers at rosslyn and put them on buses but the rosslyn station became so overloaded, causing more panic when the escalator shut down. some passengers got overheated walking up to the street level. the republican presidential hopefuls debated last night in new hampshire. this bloomberg "washington post" sponsored forum focused on the economy and jobs. >> can you name all 59 points in your 160-page plan? >> the american people in the kind of financial crisis they're in, they need someone who knows how to create jobs and i do. >> we've got to get our spending house in order. >> they want to really change things, the first person to fire is bernanke who is a disaster as chairman of the federal reserve. second person to fire is geithner. >> now, new hampshire holds the nation's first primary in january. former massachusetts governor mitt romney holds a wide lead in state polls. it is 5:06.

to remain in the plaza through december 30th. >> a string of bombings in baghdad targeted iraqi police officers, 14 people are reported dead and at least 60 more wounded. the attacks raised more questions about whether iraqi police can effectively secure baghdad once u.s. combat forces leave at the end of the year. federal authorities say the government of iran was behind a plot to assassinate saudi arabia's ambassador and the assassination was to have taken place here in washington, d.c. with a bombing that could have killed dozens of innocent people. 9news now reporter kristin fisher is outside the saudi embassy in northwest with more. good morning, kristin. >> good morning, andrea. the plan was to kill the saudi ambassador to the u.s. by bombing one of his favorite d.c. restaurants. now which restaurant exactly, we still don't know but what we do know is that mass casualties were accessible. the iranian defendants were willing to take out innocent civilians if that's what it

>> friends of a gaithersburg man who died mysteriously on the tracks want to know if he was the victim of foul play. 37-year-old benoit's body was found on the tracks on october 1st. metro investigators say everything points to it being an accident but friends say there's too much about the case which just doesn't make sense. >> adding a little more anxiety to the whole situation. >> we want to know what happened and just that there was no foul play involved. >> the 37-year-old chockco had taped an unreleased episode of who wants to be a millionaire in the weeks before he died. he was a quiz show whiz and also a highly regarded biochemist. a pioneer of the gay rights movement has died. frank kameny was fired as a government astronomer for being a homosexual. in 1965, kameny became the

first to stage gay rights protests in front of the white house and the pentagon. signs as well as buttons from and levolets are now housed at the smithsonian's national museum of american history. frank was 86 years old. d.c. mayor vincent gray's office is organizing a rally and march to advocate for full representation in congress. full democracy for d.c. will take place saturday and protestors plan to march from freedom plaza to the martin luther king jr. memorial. that memorial which is the first monument on the national mall to honor a black person, will be dedicated this sunday. the original ceremony in late august was postponed because of hurricane irene. president obama will deliver the keynote address. other speakers include congressman john lies and members of the king family. >> time for another "your money" report. jessica doyle is off today. the justice department wants to take a closer look at a deal

that would allow us airways to expand its flights. it wants to trade 132 daily landing rights in la guardia to delta. in exchange, us airways would get 42 such rights at national from delta. the justice department has determined the la guardia portion does not raise antitrust concerns but it wants to keep investigating the reagan portion even though the transportation department granted final approval yesterday. a popular jogging stroller is being recalled because of concerns about choking. the consumer product safety commission says the backing of the embroidered logo patch on the bob canopy can come loose. the commission has received six reports of children putting the backing in their mouths. sony says it has detected a large number of unauthorized attempts to access user accounts on its playstation network and other online entertainment services. the tokyo-based company has temporarily locked about 93,000 accounts and sent e-mail

all day as temperatures get into the mid-60s. even upper 60s for highs. 5:00 p.m. temperature around 65. yesterday, we did manage to get into the lower 70s. winds northeast to east. 10 to 15-mile-per-hour range. it will be a little bit brisk at times. moisture has been coming up in waves. a lot of it is north of town and west of town. the heavy stuff through west virginia. you notice down here through roanoke going through north carolina, the line of yellows and oranges, that's a line of thunderstorms around the greensboro area. there is instability coming toward us later this morning into the afternoon. that's why we've got the threat for thunderstorms as well. looking at live doppler 9000 hd. relatively quiet in the immediate d.c. vicinity. to our northeast, some showers in and around baltimore, the eastern shore. lighter showers through montgomery county. these things are diminishing as they track up toward western howard. back south of 66 in toward manassas and warrenton and marshall and haymarket down toward quantico. lighter showers. then as we go down in toward

colonial beach and dahlgren, heavier showers. you see how quiet it is there. you have to get into southwest fairfax county to pick up the showers. i do want to take you down toward the northern neck and southern maryland. we've got showers there. just west of colonial beach tracking up toward dahlgren and here from st. leonard down toward ridge and st. mary's county, got the showers all tracking up 235 and route 5. 65 is our current temperature with 65 in easton. 69 in salisbury. 59 out in winchester this morning. the dew points are way up. it is a little bit muggy as well. 62 on the dew point and a brisk east-northeast wind at 16 miles per hour. the storm system which started in florida on monday which was across georgia on tuesday is now the upper storm anyway is back here across ohio and west virginia with the trailing showers and storms. right through central areas of south carolina, all of this will be lifting toward us. at times today, showers. other times, a few storms.
