9news now. there are so many dead. too much destruction says one mayor in turkey after a 7.2 earthquake hit this country. hello, i'm bruce johnson. thank you for joining us this sunday night. over 100 people known dead tonight but counting is just beginning. the fear that number will climb dramatically. an undetermined number trapped under collapsed buildings and homes in the massive quake that struck the eastern part of

turkey this morning. drew levinson begins our coverage with the latest on rescue and recovery efforts tonight. >> reporter: emergency crews worked through the night tigging through the rubble for survivors after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake devastated eastern turkey sunday. rescue workers endured bitter temperatures along with several aftershocks including one that registered 6.1. the turkish prime minister went to see the damage himself. in the daylight it is easier to get a clearer picture of the devestation. buildings are in shambles and thousands have been forced from their homes including this woman who lost her home. but said thank god my kids were not at home during the quake. emergency workers dug through the debris hoping to find someone inside alive.

and they did. this man pulled from a collapsed building. power is out in this remote region of turkey making it even more difficult to find survivors. >> it is incredibly sad to see rescue workers who have to rely on generators which are loud to be able to continue relief efforts. they cannot hear people screaming for help who stuck in those buildings, in the rubble. >> reporter: two cities appear to be hottest hit and are reporting the most casualties. several countries including the yates the -- united states have pledged to help. >> people in this area with family in turkry are following developments there closely tonight. we talked to the manager of the

murder of a cab driver found shot to death in northeast washington. a 20-year-old from southeast d.c. is charged with first- degree murder in the death of the cab driver. the 40-year-old was found inside his taxi around 4 a.m. saturday at anacostia avenue and pond street. he was driving for the pg&silver cab companies. management confirmed to us that one of the drivers had been killed but they refused any other comments. we have not been able to reach the victim's family. jury selection in the lululemon murder trial begins tomorrow. brittany norwood is accused of killing her coworker jayna murray in the store after hours. attorneys could be looking at a jury pool in the hundreds we are told. . >> reporter: they may be on a walk or on a date or spending time with their kids or watching sunday football games. >> one final play here. >> reporter: they may even be

shopping at lululemon. but come tomorrow 12 people in montgomery county may be selected as jurors. they will soon decide the fate of brittany norwood. >> you're basically looking for a jury type. >> reporter: montgomery attorney knows all about high profile cases. he tried the son of sam, a convicted serial killer who terrorized new york city in the late 70s. he says selecting those 12 people is critical. >> you don't have a jury that is sympathetic then you're wasting your time. it is the most important part of a case. and yet the lawyers have the least amount of input. >> reporter: but they will have input perhaps from jury consultants who often study similar cases from the past. >> looking at similar cases around the country and what the juries were on those cases gives you somewhat of a prediction as to what you should look for in this jury. >> reporter: what could that mean for brittany norwood. >> a racial component here. there may be an insanity defense. >> reporter: he says once the

a northern virginia man is hoping to get back an extremely valuable piece of equipment. norm mitchell was involved in a story we did last week about a local food pantry and the positive effect he had on his life. matt jablow has the story how his life took a turn for the worse. >> reporter: three days ago norm mitchell was singing the praises of the food pantry in northern virginia which before temporarily closing last week because it was running out of food helped mitchell turn his life around after he lost his home. >> i want to be a part of society but i want to be productive for it. >> reporter: today mitchell is singing the blues. >> it aches. >> reporter: after his portable power washer which he depends on to make money washing cars, the same power washer he was using last week when we caught up with him was stolen from his driveway. >> i think they creeped up and took it off the truck. >> reporter: he is now washing cars in fronts of his house but not nearly as many as he was
