quickly found the honda at the intersection of leesville boulevard. >> just saw the vehicle, parked my truck in the median and walked over to the truck or approached the truck quickly and walked over there and i saw the baby in the back and i noticed the car was still running and grabbed the baby and called 911 and let them know where my location was. he was fine. he was smiling. he just kept saying mama. i had a police escort back to my house and returned him to his mom. and the mom was pleased to have her baby back. >> he likes the truck. he loves the advertising, you know, he had a good time riding in it. >> not the end of the story as fairfax county police continue to search for a suspect. >> now i talked to the mom and you might imagine, she is beside herself. she didn't want to appear on camera. she left her son in the car. he was sound asleep. she didn't want to wake him up in the few seconds it was going

new york. thank you so much for being with us. it is indeed an extraordinary day in your experience as well. >> pain staking is a perfect word. this is the most important part of the case. to make sure the defendant and the people of maryland get a fair jury and judge greenburgh is to be congratulated. each juror in his chambers that responded to certain questions that he was concerned about. >> and just to clarify, the jury pool was broken -- started with 300. was broken into two groups of 150. that initial group still has not been processed completely and jim and i heard some interesting tidbits today. starting with 38 of the 150 prospective jurors formed an opinion about norwood's guilt or innocence. >> yes, that is a large number. however, that doesn't mean they are going to be disqualified. judge greene greenburgh is

going to interview them. can they be fair? >> another interesting point of the day was that 18 of the 150 in the initial jury pool have not heard of the lumulemon murder case. >> that was surprising. there were 18 people that hadn't heard about it. that was one of the surprising aspects today. >> and finally, ten of the 150 prospective jurors said that the graphic nature of some of the evidence that we will see in a couple of weeks ahead would hinder their ability to be impartial. >> those jurors probably will be excused if they can't overcome that to be fair and look at the evidence without any bias or prejudice. >> you commended judge greenburgh, we saw him admonish jurors are not even allowed to read a book, a newspaper in the courtroom today. why? >> judge greenburgh is being very strict, pain staking. this has been to him a very cautious effort to make sure that all the jurors are not

work has become. >> the weekend murder is among the many cab drivers who operate out of the taxi yard in landover hills, maryland. >> i don't drive at night. >> how come? >> because it's dangerous. >> this is where 40-year-old domingo had been leasing his cab beginning four years ago. he was discovered in his vehicle saturday morning dead from gun shot wounds. >> this is a very bad situation for all the drivers because they don't know what to expect. >> the vehicle had been stopped at the park in northeast. police and other drivers believe, picked up a passenger and drove him into the city where he was robbed, then shot. >> as long as the customer is not unruly, not drunk, anything like that, we have to pick him up. >> this is a lot bigger than prince georges county. they have shields in their cabs. others are arming themselves and even more, drivers are telling us because of the death of the driver, a lot of

passengers are going to be left at the curb. a lot of african american males won't be picked up this weekend. >> he took all the money, you know. no security. >> no security in prince georges county. >> back at the taxi compound, able to track their 600 cabs. the company wasn't aware one of their drivers was in trouble saturday morning until after they got the call from police. >> they need some type of camera system in their car, you know, something so when they pick up someone, it would take pictures of them or have video. >> a lot of cabs in new york have those cameras. d.c. police acted quickly on this. they arrested a man from southwest d.c. he has been charged with murder. we don't know how they connected him to the crime at this point. >> one of the people in your story mentioned cameras and potential have to have

cameras. >> they paid for a lot of cameras already, but cases where these cab drivers own their own vehicles, that cost would be on them. a lot of them don't have the money. >> thank you for that. all right lesli, libya's new interim leaders say they will conduct an investigation into the death of cornell muammar gadhafi. there are conflicting reports on how the dictator died. video tapes showed him alive at the time they captured him. some say he was shot by his captors. >> derek, a man who was linked to iran, security forces fledded not guilty to plotting to kill him. he has admitted his role in a 1 1/2 million plot to kill the ambassador in a bomb attack. another man is believed to still be in iran. the iranian government denies any involvement. syria has recalled its

ambassador to this country after the u.s. ambassador to syria came back to washington. robert was summoned back to the state department because of concerns for his personal safety. the united states is blaming the government for several threats. enraged syrian authorities with the peaceful protesters. the state department says there is no timetable for the return to syria. >> president obama is offering america's support after a massive earthquake rocked turkey yesterday. >> more than 2,000 search and rescue teams are out there still digging away for survivors. >> an emergency worker in turkey cradled a rescued toddler after search teams pulled him out of the rubble alive. crews say each survivor gives them hope. a day after a powerful earthquake killed 200 people. this man says i was pulled out alive, but my brother is still

trapped under debris. rescuers in eastern turkey are still trying to find and free dozens trapped beneath collapsed buildings. survivors spent a cold night on the street. they are fighting to get their hands on tents and supplies. authorities are warning people to stay out of damaged homes because strong aftershocks are still shaking the region. the devastation is even too much for some rescuers to take. and it is overwelming relatives who are starting to hold funerals for the dead. tina, cbs news. >> small earthquakes hit turkey almost every day because a major geological fault line goes across that country. two large quakes in '99 killed a lot. an outpouring of generosity for a needy north virginia man.

mitchell washes cars for a living, but his power washer was stolen from his truck. peggy fox joins us with more. >> warren mitchell filed a police report here with prince william county after his power washer was stolen. that wasn't just any kind of theft. this power washer is his main form of making money. after pulling himself out of homelessness. we reported it last night and after we did so, take a look at this. each one of these is an e-mail. we have a power washer, we want to help. the person he wound up getting a power washer from never sent us an e-mail. he called warren mitchell directly last night. >> it was overwelming. it was like, man. >> that is warren mitchell describing the midnight phone call he got from a stranger last night. a man named ken buyers. it was a call that would turn his despair into opportunity.

and an adult woman when he disappeared yesterday afternoon. hanover county police searched, but so far no trace of him. robbie attends a school for autism in richmond. the search for 11 month old lisa erwin continues in missouri. newly released surveillance video shows someone walking near a gas station the morning the child disappeared. as melissa reports, family and friends continue to pray for her safe return. >> this video taken from a gas station near the home where baby lisa was last seen shows an unidentified person walking along the road around 2:15 a.m. october 4. lisa was reported missing just hours later. the gas owner station said it's unusual to see someone walking around the street at that hour. fbi has that video in their possession. they are going to take a look at it. so far, official haves not commented on this new video.

>> just take her, let her come home to her family where she belongs. >> friends and family gathered sunday for an emotional prayer vigil. this is the first time we're seeing baby lisa's parents, jeremy erwin and debra bradley attend this type of prayer vigil they have been having in the neighborhood. billboards around the kansas city metro area are being used in the search for lisa. last week, authorities executed a search warrant spending hours at the erwin home. but the family attorney says police waited too long to do the search. >> all the time that they spent in this backyard and again, they got to do that. and they have to be thorough about it. 17 days later? my fear is that we have missed this critical time to find this baby. >> police have not announced the suspect in the disappearance. i'm melissa reporting. >> now the defense is now putting on its case in the trial of the doctor accused in the death of michael jackson.

prosecutors wrapped up their case against dr. conrad murray this morning, but not before murray's lawyers questioned dr. shaefer. thr. shaefer says he is responsible for jackson's death for giving him propofol. he was pressed to complain the computer models he used to back his analysis. >> you will no information at your disposal that dr. murray would have given six injections. >> correct. >> or for that matter, 50- milligrams each. >> correct. >> prosecutors claim that dr. murray was wreckless and knew jackson had a drug problem, but did nothing about it. lawyers will likely admit his treatment of jackson was unorthodox and imperfect, but they will make the case that nothing he did or did not do amount to involuntary manslaughter. it is possible dr. murray will take the stand, but most court

shots fired and two dead inside a rockville nursing home. police say an elderly cpa shot his ailing wife today and then killed himself at what used to be the national lutheran home. >> it's an all too familiar story. >> reporter: by the time the medic unit arrived, it was too late. shaken residents tried to deal with the news that 80-year-old albert ballard had shot his wife to death inside a patient room and then turned the gun on himself. >> we take the security of our residents and families very seriously and believe this is an isolated incident. >> workers heard the shots, but when they got inside the room, both the ball ballards

cofounder, steve jobs, can now learn even more about his life. a new biography about jobs hit bookstores today. written by walter, the former managing editor of time magazine. the book is based on numerous interviews by jobs. jobs died october 5 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. he was 56 years old. martha stewart thinks her new daughter's new book is hilarious. alexis stewart's book, learning to live here, seems to take a lot of shots at her mom. she glue grew up with a glue gun to her head. people shouldn't take it so seriously, but she has nothing bad to say about the book. comedian will farrell won a prize. >> given to comedians who use social commentary. his impression was a hit on

it is devastating when you don't have a home. some place to put your belongings, some place to provide warmth and shelter. many vets returning from conflict overseas are at risk of becoming homeless. our j.c. hayward found an organization that is helping them and their families. >> 12% of all americans experiencing homelessness are veterans. u.s. vets also known as the united states veterans initiative helped service personnel get their lives back on track. >> i've been homeless for two years now. it's such a blessing and i feel so grateful. >> 52-year-old darryl graham describes his personal story. he served his country as a naval cook for six years before falling on hard times. >> i had to question and

everything, i stopped using drugs a little bit and i was out there on the streets for a while. and family couldn't trust me and couldn't trust myself. >> one in four who are homeless are veterans. the very sad commentary, but the residents who live in this building in southeast washington were given a new lease on life and a place to call their own. u.s. vets provides more than housing. clients get counseling, jobs, medical services, and psychological support. emily but ton, the program director says the goal is to empower each veteran and guide them on a path of success. >> having housing changes a person's identity and their self-concept to the same degree that being homeless can define who they are in a negative way. >> this is home and this is going to be home for a while.

payments, he says, will be the best bet for homeowners nationwide. danielle nottingham is live. why wouldn't congress have to approve this plan? >> well, this is an executive action. he does not need congress' approval to get these plans through and for the next few days, he will be once again taking his plan to the people to show them that he does have a strategy to jolt the economy and as we mentioned, he's going to make sure lawmakers are not in his way. >> the president arrived in las vegas where he is betting a new plan for struggling homeowners will give the economy a boost. about 11 million americans are currently under water on their mortgages. meaning they owe more on their home than it's worth. and nebraska nevada is one of the hardest hit states. expanding a program that will help up to a million homeowners
