student loan payments. again with no additional cost to taxpayers corporate the president. -- according to the president. police and neighbors are losing patience with antiwall street protests but demonstrators here in d. c. are continuing to expand their tent city with little interference. >> in oakland, california, hundreds marched through downtown tuesday night and they took to the streets just hours after police arrested dozens of protestors. the protestors eventually made their way back to city hall. that's where police started blocking them. police in atlanta have surrounded a park where the city's "occupy wall street" protestors have gathered and ordered everyone to leave. early this morning police set up barricades and encircled woodruff park. some gathered up their tents and belongings saying they haven't wanted to lose them. remember to be peaceful if arrest comes. and about an hour north of d. c. city leaders at occupy bullet mar want them to scale back their presence near the

inner harbor. in fact beginning tonight they will only allow two people to stay overnight and one tent in the square. everyone else needs to leave by midnight. that's when the plaza closed to visitors. the group has been at the site since october 4th and they have to plans no leave -- no plans the leave. the judge in the lululemon trial has limited the number of photographs they can show. >> norwood is accused of bludgeoning her co-worker to death, jayna murray to death inside the store. the judge was concerned about showing some of the felts from the crime scene -- photos from the crime scene and thought it might make jurors immediately disturbed and emotional. 65 prospectsive jurors have been asked to return to the courtroom yesterday. yesterday we spoke with the victim's college roommate. >> she lived with an open arm you know. she embraced everybody. she -- loved what she did.

did what he loved. she was full of joy and i want to celebrate her life. i want to carry on her legacy. >> 12 jurors and five alternates could be seated as soon as later this morning according to 9news now reporter andrea mccarren. two people in orlando, florida have been arrested now in connection with a recent slaying on a metro bus in southeast washington. the c. police were search -- d. c. police were searching for two men. thompson was shot after midnight last thursday in the 2300 block of alabama avenue. the surveillance pictures eventually led to these two suspects arrest. the identities have not been released. here's a look at other things making news now. rescuers in turkey pulled a 2- week-old baby girl out of the rubble alive 47 hours after the powerful quake struck. crews then saved the infant's mother and grandmother who were

trapped in the debris of their collapsed apartment. the death toll has risen to 366 and tens of thousands of survivors continue to spend their nights in tents, cars or huddled around outdoors. the united mine workers union says masse energy company is guilty of quote industrial homicide. and now the union is demanding criminal prosecution of at least 18 masse managers. the allegations stem from an education motion which killed -- explosion which killed 29 west virginia miners last week. they claim that masse knew about and allowed the dangerous conditions to exist. so far the company is not commenting. a federal judge in phoenix has denied a request by lawyers for the tucson shooting rampage suspect to hold a special hearing regarding his forced medication. in the ruling the judge wrote that jared lee loughner is being forced to take drugs at a missouri prison facility because he poses a danger to himself.

loughner pleaded not guilty to 49 charges stemming from the january 8th shooting in tucson which left six dead and injured representative gabrielle giffords and 12 others. just about 4:34. london fletcher, day-to-day. santana mass, out for five to seven weeks. tim hightower gone for the season and now we are learning chris cooley -- his 2011 season is over. >> it's early but it's bad news. the redskins placed cooley on injured reserve yesterday. the tight end has been limited due to surgically repaired knee that's been slow to heal and the busted left hand. he's been one of the most reliable skins with the exception of the 2009 season when he broke his foot. cooley played in every game of the seven year career and this season he missed the entire preseason and the season opener. >> get well soon, he's a likable guy too. okay, 4:34, coming up gas prices appear to be falling across the country. so what about here? and also at 4:39, an auto american automaker receives a

4:37. showing you the live doppler 9000 hd, up to pennsylvania out to the west, just want you to see what you're going to face, some of the showers even a little rumble of thunder can't be ruled out coming through akron this morning coming through the east and even slightly south of east. we're going to get some of this shower activity here later on this afternoon. and a much better chance we'll see rain tonight into thursday. so today, partly to mostly cloudy as temperatures climb into the low 60s by 11:00. winds will be out of the southwest at about 10 miles an hour. this afternoon, look, we're going to get to the 70-degree

mark there by 3:00 but also that threat for a few showers before the day is over. i've got a seven day with some major, major changes, and i'll have that for you coming up in about five minutes. right foul monika has timesaver traffic. a look live right now on pennsylvania avenue right across the sousa bridge into southeast d. c.. you will be fine. no real problems in the southeast corridor. we're also doing fine if you're traveling over the potomac river crossings. coming up in my next report, we'll take a look at maryland. back to you andrea and mike. 4:38. time for the first your money segment of the morning. >> jessica doyle is here. then yesterday, pow. >> weariful coming off a bad day on -- we are really coming off a bad day on wall street. the debt crisis in europe, that sparked another selloff. stocks also pulled lower by a report that consumer confidence plunged in october to the lowest levels since march 2009. the dow, had been up more than 400 points in the last two

trading sessions. gave back half of those gains and checking the numbers for you, the dow standing this morning at 11,706 after falling 207 points. that's a loss of 1.7%. you can see the numbers right there. the nasdaq off by 61 points, that is a loss of 2.3% and s&p 500 dropped by 25 points, a loss of 2%. drivers are getting some welcome relief at the pump. the national average now stands at $3.44 a gallon. and experts are predicting it could fall another 20 cents heading into the winter months when demand for gas is a little lower. locally, regular in our area at $3.43 a gallon pretty much in line with the national average. meantime japanese car makers continue to shine and "consumer reports'" annual survey.

toyota, honda, mazda and acura. last year ford was ranked 10th by "consumer reports." three of the new models, the explorer, the fiesta and focus scored below average in reliant testings in their -- reliability testings for their first year. well, ten years after it was created a new report suggests the tsa is not nearly as successful as we might think. >> gary nuremberg talks to one of the men responsible for creating the tsa and the problems. that story and more up in two minutes. we'll be back.

afternoon showers possible. you'll need umbrellas tomorrow. you need jackets too. and friday, even chillier. i think friday's highs stay in the low 50s. saturday and i was telling you about the cold storm saturday with the rain in may not get out of the mid 40s for highs on saturday. right now it's 49 in great falls and 53 at mesa neck. baden is 55 while it's 54 for gaithersburg. 42, look at the difference, lovettsville and in reston this morning, 48 degrees. here in washington we've got mostly cloudy skies and 55. dew point 45 so that relative humidity comes out at 69% and a southerly wind at 9 miles an hour. we're watching a storm system actually out to the north and west. you know they're going to pick up maybe a foot or more of snow just north of denver, colorado. they hit 80 for a high of couple of days ago for a record. for us through the day we'll see some showers more likely knot and west of us through noon. but in the afternoon and evening hours watch how the rains we develop here across

west virginia and northern virginia by 7:00. here come some showers for the evening moving in. overnight showers here and there into thursday morning. here come this is front still mild tomorrow morning. we may hit the highs before noon on thursday in the low possibly middle 60s. and then behind the front, the winds are going to shift out to the north and northwest and it will be breezy and colder. the afternoon hour features some showers here and there on thursday. and look what's going on up to the north in pennsylvania, new york, holding off on the northern edge of this for some snow. some of the models for saturday are actually hinting north and west of us, yes, in the mountains we could see some wet snow mixing in on saturday. but that's a real long shot. aisle just going to tell you -- i'm just going to tell you now. colder by friday morning. friday a chillier day with highs in the low 50s. hey, want to take you to the tropics still hurricane season until the end of november and we're still dealing with a hurricane. yes, this is rina. the r. storm and this thing is a powerful hurricane. you can clearly see the

circulation, little bit of the eye, the light area right enbetween? there's an eye right there and this is a powerful storm headed to the yucatan peninsula. as of 5:00 a.m., and winds at 110 so a strong category 2 gusting 135 moving to the west at 5 miles an hour. expecting this to move to the northwest right toward, oh, cancun as we head toward thursday afternoon. obviously hurricane warnings are up along the yucatan coast and we're looking at this storm to be brushing through cancun thursday night and then making the turn. don't like that but it's going to make more of the easterly turn probably weakening and headed toward cuba more so than florida. as we head into late saturday and sunday. but clearly we're going to be watching this one. that's a danger storm there in the western caribbean sea. don't go to cancun for a few days and let's see what happens if you have a few plans. even if you don't have plans don't go there. 70 degrees at least right now. a rain shower or two this afternoon. i've been there, it's a nice place. 64 tomorrow with the rain showers at times turning

two. >> reporter: john may coo chairs the committee. >> there are documented instances of thousands of breaches of things getting through. i think some 25,000 over the life cycle of last decade at the tsa. so objects that can pose harm are getting through. >> reporter: and not just objects. >> gao found that in 24, 25 instances 17 known terrorists, people who have been on watch lists have gotten through. >> reporter: but what about all the high-tech screening we keep seeing? >> the deployment of this advanced imaging technology equipment is sort of helter- skelter. some lanes have it. other lanes don't have it. so again it's sort of a system that's broken up. >> reporter: even as it has geared up from 16,000 employees to 65,000 in a country that has only about 400 airports. mica points to the shoe bomber

the ten year anniversary report scheduled to be released in a couple of weeks, some of the most damning information though as such as the actual failure rates are going to remain classified. other news, new recommendations for both boys and girls to get the hpv vaccine is stirring up some controversy. the shots protect against the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus. a government panel is now recommending all 11 and 12-year- old boys receive the vaccine. they're already recommended for girls and young women. >> the hpv can be transmitted from girls to boys and from boys to girls very easily. has led to the development of the new -- the recommendation that the boys also receive the vaccination. >> hpv is very common and most people don't know they have it because the virus rarely causes symptoms. there's also growing evidence the infection can boost the risk of mouth and throat cancer. and new research shows it may even increase a woman's chance

of having a heart attack or stroke. the lead lawyer in a lawsuit against phillip morris usa plans the try the case again -- to try to case again. jurors are in the fifth day of deliberation and deadlocked in the class action lawsuit when the judge declared is mistrial. >> the lawsuit claims morris misled missouri smokers into thinking cigarettes labeled as light were better for smokers. it takes nine jurors to return a verdict in a civil lawsuit. getting a flu shot may not be as effective as you think. university of minnesota researchers studies day that from a 40 year period -- data from a 40 year period and found the vaccine is only 59% effective in healthy adults but also found that the nasal mist with the live vaccine gives significant protection in young children preventing the flu in 83% of kids 7 years old or younger.

a new study finds eating disorders affect men and women equally. but the number of men who get treatment is way below the estimated number of sufferers. researchers at wesleyan university in connecticut say there's concern men may be reluctant to seek treatment or doctors may be less likely to detect disorders in men because people believe eating disorders are a female problem. this next story going to get your attention if you're a germ o february. they have now proven that dirt and germs are out there in a big way. >> they tested things we all touch and use regularly like gas pumps and atms and guess what? they found a lot of disease causing germs, germs that can give you a cold or flu. researchers say most public devices simply are never cleaned. >> so get this regarding private devices that we all have and love and hold close to us. one out of every six cell phones have fecal matter and e.
