schools today. prince daniel of sweden will visit. it's part of the school district's celebration of international food and culture. it's a coast guard competition today in annapolis. the third annual boat crew rodeo. this is video from last year. coast guard units from d. c. and maryland will take part in various competitions beginning this morning at 8:00. also today, opening statements could get underway later this morning in the lululemon murder trial. >> brittany norwood a charged with killing her co-worker, jayna murray. the judge in the case is limiting what photos can be shown in the openings statements. >> surae chinn is live outside the courthouse in rockville. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to both of you. we are in front of the courthouse where this dramatic high-profile case will play out in the days to come. we're in front of the montgomery county circuit courthouse in rockville. but first, we are trying to get through jury selection. we're already heading into day three of this process.

and it still hasn't been finalized but the judge says they are close, that the procedure will happen fairly quickly, about 30 minutes but you have to remember they have go to through jury instruction then we're talking about lunchtime and all likelihood we're talking about early afternoon for opening statements. but we will see and continue to monitor the situation inside the courtroom. you'll remember, jayna murray was bludgeoned to death back in march inside the bethesda yoga store after catching her co- worker, allegedly stealing clothes. the accused. her co-worker brittany norwood thousands trial for murder. friends of -- now stands trial for murder. friends of jayna murray have been coming to the courthouse all week. >> she was life with an open arms you know? she embraced everybody, she loved what she did and did what she loved. she was full of joy and i want to celebrate her life and i want to carry on her legacy. >> reporter: now the judge has already made a major ruling as

you mentioned. talking about those photos, he's limited them to four that will be shown during opening statements. those of which will be closeups of the crime scene including jayna murray's skull and her hands and also one when jayna murray was still alive. the defense has been highly contesting these pictures, they didn't want them shown right off the bat. because they said that they would be too emotional and too distraughting for the jury -- distracting for the jury. but the jury selection does resume later on this morning and just a few hours and hopefully opening statements will be there just after that jury selection. back to you. mike? >> surae chinn live in rockville maryland this morning. d. c. police say two people wanted for the murder of 22- year-old man are now behind bars. putting out video of the suspect helped police find their men. 22-year-old delron atchison and 21-year-old vincent gray were arrested tuesday.

they were nabbed near orlando, florida. both men are from the district. they were spotted on a camera minutes before the murder. 22-year-old demetrius thompson was gunned down last thursday. he was a father of two and searching for a job to provide for his family. d. c. police are now trying to figure out the motive. >> very preliminary -- look like it stemmed from some type of argument but again the investigation is still in the early stages, we've got the arrest warrant but we have a lot of work to do to continue on and clear up what happened there. >> the two suspects are in florida at this point being held on fugitive from justice charges. they'll eventually with extradited back here to d. c. protestors and police in downtown washington say things are peaceful and neither side expects things to change. more than view tents are set up in the square in freedom plaza. it's part of the nationwide occupy protests. d. c. landmark ben's chili bowl was out there last night and gave free food to the protestors there.

[ sound of gunfire ] a much different scene out west, overnight police in riot gear fired tear gas and smoke bombs in oakland, california on protestors there. it was the fifth confrontation in just three hours. the mayor called the encampment unsafe and unsanitary. he wants it shut down during overnight hours. president obama says muammar gadhafi was given enough time to try to avoid his fate. last night on "the tonight show" the president said gadhafi ignored calls for a transition to democracy. >> obviously you never like to see anything come to the kind of end that he did. but i think it's obviously sending a strong message around the world to dictators that people long to be free. and they need to respect the human rights and the universal aspirations of people.

6:12. we've got partly to mostly cloudy skies out there. temps in the 40s and 50s. we'll be in the mid 60s by noon, some sunny breaks here and there but mostly cloudy this afternoon. we'll make a run to 70 even the low 70s where we could see a shower or two before the day is out. monika samtani how's it looking already? it's not looking bad if you're planning to head into the district though there's one accident. it's inbound on new york avenue right here at south dakota avenue blocking a lane with authorities on the scene. on t other area road conditions at 6:18. back to you guys. nearly three days after a deadly earthquake in turkey rescue workers pulled a schoolteacher and a college student from the rubble this morning. that's one of the stories making news at 6:12. tuesday's rescue of a baby, mother and grandmother captured the world's attention.

but hope is starting to dwindle. sunday's earthquake killed more than 450 people in eastern turkey. joe the plumber is running for congress. samuel wurzelbacher is his real name. he made heads lines in the 2008 presidential campaign and run as a republican in ohio's new ninth district. and seven years after -- several years of delays, boeing 787 aircraft is finally flying. its took off on the first commercial trucker flight this morning from tokyo to hong kong. the dreamliner is said to be more environmentally friendly jet. nice. now it is time for health alert and news for all of you who are parents of boys. a government panel now says boys as well as girls should get the hpv vaccine. and that's not sitting well with the parents who are antes vaccine to begin with. it prevents against sexually transmitted human papillomavirus. some school districts are getting girls to actually take it. they require it. the government now says 11 and

12-year-old boys should get it too. it reduces the risks of transmitting hpv, a virus that can increase the risk of cervical cancer. >> the hpv can be transmitts from boys to girls and from boys to girls very easily has led to the recommendations that the boys also receive the vaccination. >> now hpv is very common. most people don't know they have it. there's also some growing evidence the infection can boost the risk of mouth and throat cancer and new research shows it may even increase a woman's chance of having a heart attack or a stroke. well, if you really need an excuse to drink another cup of coffee this morning, here it is. coffee may ward off skin cancer apparently. new research sews that women who drink three cups of coffee a day have a 20% lower risk of

heart beat because of medication. she died back in may of 2010. huguely and love were both students at the university of virginia. the d. c. council is trying to clean up the way it does business. members will hold hearings later this morning to discuss nine ethics bills. among the bills being considered are measures to tighten campaign finance reporting and term limits for council members. moonlighting and discounted legal representation would also be banned. this flash mob cleaned out a convenience store in jermantown. a just one of the reasons why montgomery county executive ike leggett proposed tougher curfew laws for minors. andrews is proposing antiloitering ordinances as an alternative. >> it should be based on behavior not age and that's what the executive says he's trying to get at it. this is a much better way to get at it. >> but a spokesman for leggett

struggling to pay off their college loans and for the president's re-election campaign. today president obama is planning to use his executive authority to help college graduates pay back the student loans. the plan would let eligible borrowers consolidate and lower their payments and here's what you need to know. first, he's going to accelerate a measure passed by congress to reduce the maximum repayment on student loans from 15% of discretionary income down the 10%. second, he will allow borrowers who have a loan from the federal family education loan program and a direct loan from the government to consolidate them into one loan lowering the overall interest rate. the white house says the program could help nearly 7.5 million people. $55,000 a year may not sound like a bargain when it comes to affordable college options but you can't read a book by its cover. you have to look at the amount of aid offered to students too and how much debt they will graduate with. that's why georgetown

and one more thing. it is divali today. that's the indian festival of lights where we celebrate the new year and have a lot of fun. we're going to see that right here. we had dancers on monday. this is -- samiri dancing for us. we had our deejay and we had cooking and we celebrated a very festive time of year for the indian community and we've had letters about this. we're so excited that we were able to cover this on our news program. >> and we want to extend an offer to do even more with other communities. >> exactly, we have such a diverse community in the district and we want to have you write to us about any
