anita, tonight a montgomery county judge has released some of the compelling visual evidence that was presented in court today but he did use his discretion and not relation everything to the public including photographs of jayna murray in the crime scene and in the autopsy. an accomplished love that came to a violent end. prosecutors say murray suffered 322 distinct identifiable injuries including an astonishing 107 defensive wounds. the most the state medical examiner had ever seen. >> newly released photographs detail the multiple weapons brittany norwood allegedly used in the attack. as many as eight including a serrated knife, hammer and box cutter found with a bloodied rope around her neck. the brutal attack lasted as

long as 30 minutes, prosecutor's say. state's attorney john mcarthy said her heart is beating, blood is flowing, her wounds are being irrigated with blood. this woman is alive. after the gruesome details emerged so did the shocking defense strategy admitting to the murder. the defense attorney said she is not guilty of first-degree murder. jayna murray was killed by brittany norwood. the defense describe the murder as a fight between two women. during that fight, said wood, britney just lost it. also in court today we learned that an employee right next door at the apple store heard two women yelling on the night of the murder and a voice saying, oh god, please help me, but no one called 911. also in court we heard that when police came to the scene they found all three cash

registers open with roughly $300 missing from each. that money has never been recovered. testimony continues tomorrow. live from bethesda, andrea mccarren, 9news now. new at 11 p.m. talk about your money. metro doling out $11 million in free rides because contractors were late or just didn't show up at all this according to the washington examiner. an inspector general's audit found that $9 million of those costs have hit in just the last three years. this is all about the agency agreeing to give out two free ride coupons for every late or missed trip as part of a settlement for a class action lawsuit. now, the assistant general manager of access services says those numbers are skewed arguing that many of the riders likely would take the rides anyway free ride coupon or not. if you can't get enough of social media you may want to listen to this. a new public service

>> reporter: he says chronic and constant behaviors like checking into your locations, posting pictures, updating your status and publishing every moment of the day leads you wide open and vulnerable to creeps like in the guy in the video. >> someone can take that tweet, match it up to your facebook. they can figure out where you live. that's exactly what this actor does. the video may be fake but the message it is intended to spread is very much real. >> this does make it easier for bad people to get ahold of some good information. >> things are moving very quickly and for somebody who is not a technologist and doesn't know what is inside the box it is going to be very difficult to figure out what is going on. >> reporter: the best piece of advice? >> don't give out any information unless you have to and you know where it is going. >> certainly not everyone sees it that way. we want to hear what you think. does the overuse or misuse of social media make you vulnerable to stalking? we posed the question earlier on our -- you guessed it --

town along carol creek linear park. living on the streets of frederick for years but this summer it has gotten very dangerous. he says groups of teens are attacking groups of homeless men and women. he says he has seen his friends attack. >> they actually pulled a knife out on somebody. like 25 of them ganged all around us. then they followed the other people down the creek and that's when they got beat up, thrown in the creek. >> many they would get our clothing and everything. they try to take that and destroy stuff. and they take knives and everything else. >> as if being homeless isn't tough enough. frederick police have stepped up foot and bike patrol saying they are increasing lighting in many areas and next month they plan to install security cameras. they are working with various organizations and encouraging people to report harassment and abuse. here is a t.v. series spin-off for you. love boat, the freshman years.

we are talking about one maryland college moving hundreds of students from their dorm rooms onto a cruiseship. st. mary's college in st. mary's county turns out two college dorms there have come down with a really bad case of mold, uninhabitable until they are cleaned up. so rather than scatter the students in hotels they are renting out the sea voyager. that is going to be docked right near campus. >> full run of the ship. the ballrooms and decks and shuffle board. >> i think it is really sweet. fits really well with the school. and i think a lot of the kids are super stoked about it. >> anybody would be stoked except maybe the shuffle board thing. a little young for that but the school says renting the ship doesn't cost more than renting a bunch of hotel rooms. captain stubbing not part of the deal. rolling out a plan to help people with crushing loan payments on their backses

romney's visit. a nationwide shortage of a drug has people scrambling to pharmacy to pharmacy. >> it is used to treat people diagnosed with adhd and it is also a narcotic that tends to be abused the f.d.a. limits the amount that can be districted to drug stores and compounds the problem. as britany morehouse tells us surprise for the popular pill just can't meet the demand. >> reporter: the power of one pill. >> you can buy a pill off someone from 5 to $15. >> i have commonly heard of pills going for 10 to $15. >> reporter: an expense that college students fork over willingly and often for adderral. >> go to any college it will be there. >> maybe not for long. pharmacies are running out of the drug both brand and generic. >> i'm kind of surprised. when medicine runs short -- i mean, you think in america we would have that available.

>> reporter: but amphetamine salts contains chemicals controlled by the f.d.a. the government limits the amount they can make and they limit how much they can provide to wholesalers. you would be hard pressed to find any pharmacy in the area. after calling dozens of pharmacies we are told the same answer "no supply and not sure when they will get it" most saying they won't have any available until january 15th. >> there is a big use for it. i hear people that shouldn't take it do get access to it. >> reporter: around college camp uses it is true. >> i have heard of cases of people who step into it thinking that they can control their usage. but after awhile they will turn around and the next thing they know they are dependent. >> that might rear its head when it is not available for mid-term. britany morehouse, 9news now. >> okay. well if you do have a prescription for adderal there are alternative drugs out there that have the same effect however most of those are also

tonight a verdict of guilty in the first criminal trial to come out of this country's worst coal mine disaster in decades. on trial in west virginia the former security chief at the massey upper big branch mine. last year in april the explosion there killed 29 miners and late today a federal jury found that security chief did try to impede the investigation into the disaster by lying to investigators and trying to destroy thousands of documents involving security at the mine. tomorrow hundreds of volunteers are expected back in hanover county virginia carrying on a search for a missing child with autism. his name robbie woods. he is nine years old and he disappeared sunday afternoon while out for a walk with his

family in the north battlefield park. despite coming up empty after three full days of looking very intensely the police and family remain optimistic. >> there can be no question that we believe and we are operating under the assumption and with the understanding that robert wood jr. is alive and we are seeking to give him the aid that he needs and to reunite him with his family. >> those search dogs have picked up robbie's scent but still no sign of the boy himself. survival kits and food and area have been left in the area but so far left untouched. tonight's health alert. the flu shot may not be as protective as we think. a study looking at 40 years of health information and shot only kept the flu away from healthy adults about 60% of the time but the same research showed the nasal spray vaccine warded off the flu more than 80% of the time in kids under

in his heart. >> i had the open heart surgery in 1993 to transplant a valve and they said at the time they thought the valve would last maybe 10, 15 years. >> reporter: and it lasted even longer. but recently john began to feel his energy fade away. >> over the last six months or so i really noticed that my ability to just go out and do day-to-day activities was decreasing significantly. >> reporter: the transplanted valve he had was becoming blocked and leaking. it needed to be replaced. but this dad to be didn't want to be laid up with another open heart operation and possibly miss the birth of his child. >> to be able to be there when your first child is born, that's a moment you don't get back. >> reporter: that's where something called melody comes in. a new type of replacement valve that can be placed in by a catheter into a vein.

>> reporter: this doctor says the valve is sewn onto a stent once guided into position a tiny balloon inflates it and the new valve starts working right away. the difference to the patient in recovery time is huge. >> when people have open heart surgery they feel like they have been hit by a truck. with a heart catheter other than have a sore groin from the procedure we have done the next day they feel great. >> reporter: and john was able to be there with his wife as they welcomed little benjamin into the world only four days after his procedure. >> but hopefully with this maybe i will get a little bit more back and be able to keep up with benjamin over the long haul. >> john was the first patient in our area to get this new heart valve implanted that way. they are all back home in alexandria and that little guy is 10 days old today and you saw how great his dad looks. >> wow. that just happened. it is impressive. >> it is impressive. what they are doing in the cat th labs something they have

never done before. >> we had showers today. denver got hammered with snow. >> 8 inches proper in denver. 82 degrees there on monday some it didn't stick to the roads that much but they still have foliage on the trees, over 100,000 folks without power in denver proper. and much of 18 inches of snow fell in the foothills. some of that same energy and moisture actually could play a part in our weather over the weekend. live doppler 9000 a couple of showers popping up. nothing heavy right now. showers west of hagerstown and showers in between warrenton and fredericksburg but we will widen it out and you can see plenty of showers back into west virginia and ohio. even indiana. showers rolling in for most of the day tomorrow. wet morning commute. more showers on the way. need the umbrella for most of the day to start and if you're going to lunch then much cooler on friday.

talk about this on monday. much cooler air filters in. freeze watches north of town for thursday night. futurecast 5:30 in the morning. light activity but most everybody has a wet commute. coming in from 66. by lunchtime they are few and farther between but still some showers at gaithersburg and back into manassas. green. by evening most of the showers south and east of town. kind of a break out to the west. showers lingering in the mountains and those showers actually turning to snow or mixture as we get into about this time tomorrow night. colder air moves into oakland. after that, just a mix of sun and clouds and get into friday ahead of the next storm system which is on tap here slated for saturday. overnight mostly cloudy, breezy and mild. more showers. again, nothing heavy. lows between 50 and 55. winds southwest at 10 to 15. now tomorrow morning mostly cloudy, breezy and mild.

more showers. 50s and 60s. that's the good news. winds southwest at 10 to 15. by afternoon i think the showers will shut off for the most part in the afternoon pretty early. high temperatures between 60 and 65. winds turn though. they become northwest at 10 to 20 and gusty and that's going to drive in probably the coldest air of the season that we have seen. so let's kind of break it down four. 50s to start with showers. even by noon breezy with temperatures between 56 and 61 with more showers. we will keep the chance of a couple showers in by 5 p.m. but mostly south and east of town. temperatures still pretty nice. 61 to about 66. now, the next three days, we dry out on friday although clouds cosm in late friday, only 55 on friday. still appears to be a cold rain here on saturday. highs in the 40s. and snow maybe as close as cumberland. next seven days. after that we are still salvaging a very nice sunday. rather brisk. temperatures in the mid-50s and those blow temperatures you see are downtown temps subtracting

he said he would like to finish things that he starts. good trait for a manager. looks like he will get that chance. nationals finished their managerial search and plan on keeping johnson on for the next season. however, an official announcement about johnson and his staff won't be made until after the world series is over. capitals defenseman mike green didn't practice with the team in edmonton today. green twisted his right ankle saturday against the red wings and was still limping. the coach wasn't confident green would be able to go thursday against the oilers. finally tonight. a fitness competition. time for the big finale. oh, no. >> what exactly went wrong there? >> i don't know. unless her arm just -- lifting too many weights her arms got tired. >> she is pretty buff. >> she looks pretty powerful. >> big finale. >> we will be right back. verizon 4g lte.
