snow? yes. a winter storm watch posted for tonight north and west of washington. it's along the pennsylvania border and out from the blue ridge west of the mountains. northern faulker county is in it, but route 15 may have issues as well into the afternoon on saturday. watch out here. the air will be borderline cold enough to support more snow than here in dc where we will see the changeover at noon. 50 degrees by 5:00 with the highs only in the low 50s and a northeast wind at 5 to 10 miles an hour. the clouds, high ones right now. a few showers near here. it's chilly. across the bay, easton, 49. western maryland, 34 in cumberland. a chilly day today. mid-50s south, and the bigger problems will be tonight and into saturday. more on that coming up in 13 minutes.

right now monika has a look at time-saver traffic. >> it was early on the northbound side of 270. a truck actually lost its load of nails right across the roadway at montgomery avenue. the good news, it's cleared up. where you see the construction cones, everything should be clearing up as we speak. i want to show you where the major hot spots are for construction overnight. south of route 50, you will be fine headed to oxenhill, and the ridge. on the west side of the beltway, no problems at the gw parkway. crossing the bridge you will be okay into be these day and 2 -- bethesda and 270. i just got word of a water main break. i will keep you posted on that situation in my next report, another look around town at

5:09. mike and andrea. >> the jury in the lululemon trial will have plenty of disturbing video to sort through. >> prosecutors are walking through the evidence to prove that brittany norwood planned the murder. >> reporter: the new video and pictures were shown in court yesterday. they were released, and some of it was too graphic to show you on television. some images question show you -- we can show you. at the end of the day, it was release to the public, and it shows a violent struck inside of the lululemon shore. there were locks of jayna murray's hair on the floor and the tool box that held the weapons to kill jayna, box

cutter, a blade, a metal bar used to hang clothing, but used to hit jayna in the head. there were pants pants pants pants pants with the crotch cut -- there were pants with the crotch cut out to imply she was raped, and there is forensic analysis still on the stand, and it's day 3 of the trial. we will hear many more details unfortunately about this crime. >> the jury also saw a video tape yesterday, how was their response to that? >> reporter: it was obviously very disturbing, and someone in the courtroom walked away and could not see anymore. some of their heads were down, and there was an audio tape that was played out as a detective interviewed her at

brittany norwood's hospital bed. we will talk about that in the next half an hour. >> surae chinn reporting live. a house fire in northeast washington. it was near 11th and g. street last night. crews saw heavy smoke coming from the second floor. crews had to block off some roads in the area to douse the flames. >> it's normal for the political candidates to get talking points but perhaps not from one of their opponents. according to the associated press that's what happened to the former dc mayor. brown said last year during the primary race, vincent gray handed him a list of talking points for brown to use in a race against the incumbent manager. now they are investigating claims that he was promised a job in the brown investigation. the mayor denied wrong doing and knows nothing about the

payments to brown. the redistricting map is regrowing. a smithburg man filed a suit against it in federal court saying it dilutes the voting powers of the agricultural districts. it moves montgomery county into the district and taking frederick and carroll counties out of it. the maryland republican party called the justice department to look into allegations that it dilutes the minority voting in the district. our time for your latest your money report. >> jessica doyle is here, and if there is any doubt it's a world economy, the last several months have proved it. >> reporter: great news that spaed a worldwide rally still going on this morning. the dow 12,000, and we will take it after yesterday's rally, sparked, of course by the european debt deal. the stocks are close to erases their losses in the overnight

asian markets headed higher again. today, the dow at 12,208. surging 339 points. blue chips on track for their best monthly gain 220 years. s&p jumping 42 points, and that was a going of 3.5% alone yesterday. some are calling it a the popcorn tax. vincent gray is proposing a tax on movie theater concessions. your popcorn, candy, and sew the idea -- and soda. the idea is to build a new movie tax east of the river. that would be on top of the city's 6% sales tax that already applies. do you want $20 in free gas today? of course you do. you want free stuff, well the discovery channel is giving away stuff across the country this morning, and now we can reveal at this moment, the

only the upper 40s by noon. highs in the northeast winds. 5 to 10-mile an hour rain. we will talk about more when i return in the next 5 to 10 minutes. monika with time-saver traffic. we have the area of seminary road at king james place with a water main break. be aware crews are in the area. i will keep you posted during my next report at 5:17. thank you, sounds good. police in indiana are investigating the cause of a crash that killed seven people. the seven were among ten people in a minivan that collided with a semitruck. the crash shut down the road for hours there. one theory, one of the drivers involved slowed down after hitting a deer. flames and smoke were visible for showers from an apartment building fire in california. the flames jump to mobile homes

and nearby buildings. 100 people were evacuated just as a precaution no word yet on the cause of the fire. in worcester, massachusetts, it's looking like christmas there. they are expected to have salt trucks out soon. the snow will not stick much, but it's a precaution. when the residents had to dig out and start scraping the cars off, it was early. >> what? >> howard will be telling us who could see more snow flakes and rain drops next. at 5:52, learn more than just gardening. they build their own ecosystem. this is cool. that's why it's today's cool. >> we will be back. and west, upper montgomery, western fair faction, points north -- fairfax. points north and west of there, you could have problems. north and west, you could have problems by the morning. the busstop forecast, the cold is the problem. 30s and 40s out there. we will be at bus, and you may want thermals this morning. sunrise at 7:31. partly to mostly cloudy skies. day planner with a mix of clouds. some sunshine, but overall, clouds once again winning the day, especially by the afternoon. 5:00 p.m. temperature, around 50. we will be lucky to get around the low 50s today. definitely a colder than normal day, and this morning, we have 40s in dc and points south, and east of town, andrews and beta at 30. 39 at columbia. in heymarket this morning, you and centerville at the 40- degree mark. north wind at 12, and it feels like 37.

we have windchills out there in the 30s this morning. the dew point down to 32 as the air has dried out some from yesterday as the front went through. we have a winter storm watch in effect for late tonight and saturday. north of town, frederick, westminster, northern baltimore county, west of haggerstown, down to martasburg, mount jackson, you are all dealing with that in the shenandoah valley and the mountains of west virginia, we are a winter storm watch. the weather service believes a potential of 5 inches or more. we saw it in denver, several inches in amarillo and now it's coming across little rock to memphis. definite circulation there. but the rain is to louisiana and east texas. all moving into a marginally cold air mass. we had snow across northern new longed -- new england it will attract south and east of us, keeping us with the normal air flow, and that will push the

cold air in here. 7:00 tonight, we are okay, but the rain is down in richmond, and snow in the mountains now near snow shoe, and the rain shower activity will move in look at western maryland and parts of west virginia with snow. this will creep its way eastward with the cold air it will be really close. this snow may be farther south into pennsylvania in the afternoon. as we head into saturday evening, notice, the storm, the cold air is bringing some of the snow back to dc, and then it will pull out by saturday night. again, i don't think we will see much, if any, accumulations. on the watch areas, several inches of the wet, sloppy, sticky snow. upwards of a half a foot. tonight, 35 to 40. temperatures don't budge. tomorrow with the rain and snow. sunday, 49. we are recovering okay sunday, and 54 and should be okay for the trick or treaters.

for the 2-1 victory, the caps lose their first game of the year, but they are 7-1, still doing fantastic. here's kristin burset with the rest of your sports. >> reporter: when it was announced chris cooley was done for the season, speculations started to mount. he said he has talked at length with the redskins g.m. about the situation, and he plans to return with the team next season, but cooley always said -- also said 100% he blames the lockout for his season ending prematurely. he had surgery on his knee but because of the lockout he was not allowed to rehab. instead of finding other doctors, he rehabbed at home. it's a decision that may have cost him his career. >> i feel i'm 100% a casualty

will be a cold, wet saturday around here. in some cases a cold, wet saturday. winter storm watches for late tonight and north and west of us. not the immediate metro but frederick county, out west to western virginia, and down into the parks. if you want to look at the leaves this weekend, think twice about tomorrow. there could be heavy wet snow in the mountains. a mix of clouds and sun, but mostly cloudy if not overcast in the afternoon wide picture, snow last night, up in new york state and new england. colder air is coming down. this system into western tennessee. that's tonight and tomorrow. look at the chill already in place. 30s and 20s at new york state. this air is coming south. 43 in town. with the other storm system coming our way. that's why it will be borderline cold enough to support several inches of snowfall. today, 51 for the high. tomorrow we will be lucky to be

things have changed dramatically since that morning. good morning, sur say. -- surae. >> reporter: good morning, mike. more and more details are revealed every day. including yesterday there was a hush in the courtroom and from the jury as they listened to an audio tape from brittany norwood. this is her interview from a detective who interviewed her hours after jayna murray was killed. she asked the chilling question, can you tell me how my friend is doing? they drug jayna by her hair, and she was screaming, and i couldn't do anything. prosecutors and the defense says she created a web of lives to cover up the crime. she said there were two masked men, sounding young, white, and repeatedly called her the n.- word,word,word, and there were threats.

he told me if he heard another word, he would slit my throat. the prosecutors and defense claim the same thing that she made up the story, but the prosecutor is painting a picture of an elaborate scheme, and the defense says the lies prove a poorly thought out plan that she was not thinking and that she was lost -- she lost it. >> reporter: the state has 35 witnesses total to take the stand. back to you, mike. >> thank you surae. she live in rockville, outside of the courtroom today. today a court testimony for the man being held for the death of robin gardner. she disappeared on aruba nearly 3 months ago, and her body has not been found. he says she was swept out to

citigroup and others say they are -- will not impose the fees. the first of a planned series of class action lawsuits against wal-mart. the first is seeking to represent what the lawyers say could be as many as 95,000 women, accusing california managers of paying and promoting women at lesser rates than the male counterparts. it's the scaled down version of the initial complaint filed in 2001 that sought to represent 1.6 million women nationwide, and it was talked down by the u.s. supreme court in june. concerns about yaz are on the rise. the drug produced by bayer appears to increase the risk of dangerous blood clots, more so than older medications. a new study reviewed the

welcome back toe 9 -- to 9 news now. we are talking about a winter precip this weekend. >> especially north and west of washington. 40 miles or so. 40 to 50 miles, and from then on, it's a lot more likely you will see snow. here in d.c., i think we will see wet flakes in the afternoon and evening hours, but the odds of us seeing any accumulation, really low. upper montgomery, into loudon county, winds north and west of that, you will see something on the ground before the day is out saturday. here's the bus stop forecast. this morning, it's chilly out there. mix of clouds and clear skies, partly to mostly cloudy. 30s and 40s. sun is not up until 7:31. one more week to go with the late sunrises before we fall back.

coming out of the mississippi valley will head to us. we will be watching that. the cold air is in place to the north, and the moisture will come in, even though it's early, really early, still in october a snowstorm for the mountains and parts of the northeast. here this morning, i notice the blue. it's snow breaking out near the snow chute in west virginia, and some of the higher elevations into this evening. the rain south, and it moves in overnight. i think we will start wet tomorrow. some of this may actually be farther east than what we are showing. during the day on saturday t depends on how quickly the cold -- it depends on how quickly the cold air moves in. this blue may be farther south and east, and then we are going to be going into the evening hours, seeing the rain change into snow in the metro before the storm pulls out, and right now, i'm thinking there could be several inches of snow, maybe even upwards of half a foot on the upper elevations.
