traffic. typical morning. light. the beltway is looking great. we have one issue on the g.w. parkway northbound. north of memorial bridge. watch out for the park. police are just headed there. they will give us more information as it comes in. i will keep you posted on that one. the dallas toll road, 66 looking fine. that is slow through centerville, by the way. the outer loop of the beltway. route 1, slowing down just a bit now after 95 as you approach silverspring, but no big deal on the northbound side of town headed to 270. in my next report, i will will update the -- i will update the g.w. parkway. the stories happening today, good timing by prince george's county department of public works, planning a test of all snow and ice removal equipment before they heard howard's forecast. the test was at 4:00 this morning. dc will conduct a similar dry

run later today. hundreds of students at st. mary's college in maryland will move on to the dorm boat today. the college is bringing in a cruise ship to house the students. they were forced from their dorm because of a mold problem. that i had been living in hotels -- they had been living in hotels. the discovery channel has $20 of gas to be given away free today. the shell station on southbound 1 and the giveaway is 6:30 to 9:30 this morning. testimony resumes in a few hours for brittany norwood. >> she is accused of killing jayna murray at the lululemon store. >> surae chinn has more on what was heard. >> reporter: good morning. day three of testimony begins in the courtroom behind me with more testimony of forensic evidence and a witness who will

be on the stand, put on by the state. the trial will also continue. a tough day for jayna murray's family. her parents, her brothers, and their wifes have been -- wives have been here every day. yesterday they saw disturbing details including weapons used to kill jayna, and brittany's pants with the crotch cut out and then a pair of her socks soaked soaked in blood. she had not been sexually assaulted according to a nurse as she claimed. but the first interview was from her hospital bed and she asked the detective, can you tell me how my friend is doing? she came one a story that two masked men raped them and killed jayna. the legal expert jim shalek says both sides will use the story that she lied to cover up

the vicious murder. >> the keyword is premeditation. the government will show the concoction of lies and details show it's a big plan, and the defense, i see, will argue that the coverup was ridiculous, and so many lies, it was so untrue, it showed a woman who panicked, and you couldn't plan something so foolish and ridiculous. both will use the coverup to their advantage. >> reporter: first-degree murder means premeditation carrying life in prison. second-degree murder is life in prison with the chance of catastrophe -- with the chance of parole at 15 years. the district man who admitted to killing his teenage daughter and then dumping her body in a trash can will spend 40 years in prison. robert mcentire said he had nothing to do with his death, and then he admitted he killed his own daughter after having a

2-year relationship with her. he apologized to his family before the sentencing. brown got talking points from gray's campaign. he told prosecutors he gave him the talking points, and brown says gray's campaign paid him to attack fentey and then promised him a job in the administration. the mayor says he knows nothing of payments made to brown. the u.s. open golf tournament this summer was a lot of fun for golf fans, but we are looking a the the bill that was -- look at the bill that was left behind. it was after police had overtime for the week long event, $750,000. the u.s. government association only reimburses 10% of the cost, meaning the taxpayers will cough up 678,000. the montgomery county council will consider a new policy

guaranteeing a better reimbursement rate. >> these are tight times, and that's a lot of money. it's something that we want to get as much reimbursement for as possible. dollars are scarce, and the money could be used for many other valuable programs. >> that 680,000 may not be the bottom line. taxpayers should not panic just yet, the total money raised at the event may help to offset the cost. 6:06, and we are watching your money. we begin with a story coming out minutes ago. there's something fishy at restaurants and fish markets, the fish you pay for may not be what you get. secret shoppers for consumer reports bought 190 samples of 14 different kinds of fish, and they went to 50 stores and restaurants in the new york city area, and then technicians did the dna test on the fish and found out only four of the 14 times they bought were

identified correctly. the biggest problem, lemon soul. not one of the ten sample l -- samples bought were the right fish. there is legislation in the senate right now that would strengthen oversight of the seafood safety and labeling. a new grocery store is moving to a spot inside of the beltway in prince george's county. it's called evergreen's supermarket it will take over by thanksgiving. it's a spinoff of the food bizarre chain in the new york city area. 1 million jobs are coming to the dc area. that i will not all be here until the year 2030 according to the george mason center for regional analysis. montgomery and fairfax counties with the biggest growth of 160,000 jobs each. >> 6:70.

minutes. monika, over to you. a live look from sky 9 on route 50. delays through centerville, and then looking okay here at route 50. in my next report, i will tell you about an accident on the g.w. parkway at 6:18. jessica, back to you. >> it is 6:12 right now. our next guest is taking a unique look adds of the -- look inside of the white house to get an answer to the questions that impact all of us. cynthia gordy. a week ago there was a meeting meeting with valerie barnes. you moderated the fits cushion, a lot -- discussion, a lot of it focusing on the economy. what did you hear about the administration about the economy and the jobs situation? >> it was timed with the report on the effort the white house has done to combat poverty and targeted efforts for low-income communities, and part of that was trying to advocate for the

american jobs act. we talked about what is in the bill to build on the efforts but they talked about the efforts they have already done over the last 2 years to address the long-term unemployed. it was a pretty multifaceted conversation. >> you just mentioned long-term unemployment. arguably the jobs recession is one of the biggest problems facing america right now. 27 of the last 29 months, the unemployment rate was over 9%. the african american rate was 16.7% last month. you have hear frustration from readers in general, did you hear it at the open forum? >> there were questions about specifically what they can do for them. even though there's frustration for sure, i think there's recognition they care about the unemployed and the poor. i think they were trying to get

information, and i think, i mean it was a pretty positive conversation overall to be honest. >> reporter: did you get a sense that the administration feels there's real solutions out there in the progress that we will see any process in the unemployment? >> the american jobs bill is something they are continuing to push even though the senate broke it down. they are breaking it up into pieces and they said realistically do you think the republicans will vote for these? and they said, yes, we think the american people will support this. >> reporter: you mentioned party line, any questions sidestepped or dodged? >> absolutely. we had a question about why they have not seen prosecutions against the big banks and firms that practiced predatory lending that led to the foreclosure crisis, and they said we think it's more important to focus on changing the laws so these things can not happen again, and that's what the focus has been on. that was i did appointing, -- was disappointing because

concerns yet, but the storm that got colorado and amarillo will get parts of it tomorrow. the bus stop forecast is looking at readings in the 30s and 40s this morning with partly to mostly cloudy skies, and the sun is not up until 7:31. setting at 6:13 this afternoon. daylight savings time, another week to go at that. 47 amid the clouds and sun. clouds will win out in the afternoon as the temperatures struggle to get above the 51- degree mark. as we head into tonight, some rain will develop, and snow out on the mountains. 30s out north. leesburg and haymarket at 39. 36 out of hurden this morning. springfield is 31. crofton this morning, 37. grab a jacket. there's wind out there. windchill at national, other windchills closer to freezing, and the dew pointses in lower

-- points in the lower 30s. up across north of town and west, as you head into the blue ridge, shenandoah valley in the mountains, when they issue a winter storm watch, they think there's the potential for at least 5 inches of snow. we are looking at the storm system through the mississippi valley, and this the one that got amarillo, got denver, and looks like it will get us. parts of the northeast as well with the first snow of the season. it's very early. any snow we get will likely be a heavy, wet snow. we are looking at the timing being tomorrow. clouds increase. the rain down south. could be in for the football games before they end tomorrow night. the snow will be to the west. i think it's underdone in southern pennsylvania and maryland. probably farther south and east than what you are seeing. later in the day, cold air comes n and we will -- comes in, and we will switch over

welcome back this morning. you will need a jacket and maybe gloves. it's chilly out there. mid-30s to north to mid-30s south. interested in 42 or 43 here in washington. the day planner today. we will see the clouds and sun mix, and then overcast this afternoon. upper 40s for noon. around 50 or low 50s for highs today. the northeast wind at 10. we will come back and talk about the potential of rain and wintery weather over the weekend. for the first time since 2002, the world series is going to game 7. >> either the rangers will win their first ever title or the cardinals will complete one of the amazing comebacks. texas led the game 7-5 in the bottom of the 9th; down to the last strike, and david freese with the double to right.

two runs score to tie the game, and then we go into extra innings. rangers lead 9-8 in the bottom of the 10th, and again, cardinals down to their last strike, and lance berkman with the single to center. the tieing run comes in, and it's 9-9. it stayed that way until the bottom of the 11th. freese at the plate again. >> freese in the air to center. we will see you tomorrow night! >> that is awesome! that was joe buck, recalling his dad's call from game 6 of the 1991 world series. he said the game thing. it gave st. louis the win, 10-9 and freese is from st. louis, so he's excited. the caps and their fans knew it had to end some time. the amazing winless streak is over. they were in edmonton, skating against the oilers.

first of all, if you're planning to head over to the g.w. parkway, north of the memorial bridge, the accident has been cleared. we will go to the north side of town, and i'm just getting word of the outer belt loop. i will keep you posted as soon as the information comes in 270 on the southbound side. it's been incident free from clarksberg to where the lanes divide. i think you should be okay with the brake lights right now. this time into downtown. looking fine along the mall constitution avenue. the freeway, no problems here. the 14th street if you plan to head northbound on 95, slow traffic into springfield. duke street, 395, you're okay right here across the bridge span. before i go, a commuter alert. we finally have an opening date for the rest of the inner county connector. tuesday, north 22nd is the day. the project manager said by

6:00 on november 22nd, the highway will be open from georgia avenue to interstate i- 95. already open from 270 to georgia avenue. the toll from end to end will be $4 during the peek times, and 2.40 for offpeak. do you know how long it's been since the highway has been in the works. >> ever since i moved here. did you say 50 years? >> yeah. >> 60 years. >> did you know the beltway was completed in 1964. you do the math. they have been planning it since before the beltway was completed. yes the beltway was completed 47 years ago. >> no rush. >> maybe in our lifetime we will see the whole thing. >> thank you. >> you're welcome. check out this girl on the left-hand side of the picture. that is 12-year-old china campbell. she is a hero, just for knowing to call 911. the prince george county's fire department says she saw people

in her fire department standing on the balcony of the 2nd floor of their apartment. there was a fire, and they were trapped. she called 911 calmly and accurately telling the operator what was going on, and based on her call, the fire department got three people to safety and put out the fire. a virginia tea party group is demanding an $8,000 refund from the city of richmond. that's how much the city charged the group to hold free rallies over the last 3 years. a richmond tea party protesters say occupy protesters have been camp in the plaza and not been charged. the tea party groups here in charlotte and dc have raised similar complaints. it's not just the tea party that feels slided. some people living near the encampment here in dc say the noise is getting out of hand. georgia pam is a law student studying for finals, and she

says the cheering can go on until 2:00 in the morning. >> i don't want them to be forced to leave, but i would like for them to know that there are people living here. >> the crowd occupy dc could grow by hundreds tonight. students, heirloom a-- alumni and faculty of george washington will march tonight. we are learning what brittany norwood told prosecutors hours after killing jayna murray. there was an audio tape played yesterday. >> reporter: good morning, mike. new images were shown before the jury inside of the courtroom yesterday. some of it too disturbing, and too graphic to show you on morning television, but some of it we can show, of the aftermath of an apparent struggle, violent struggle, in fact, inside of the lululemon

store, shattered glass, bloody foot prints b, and jay issue prints -- footprints, and jayna murray's hair on the floor. there was a tool box of items found, and brittany's clothing was shore in the court. her pants to imply she was raped were shown and her socks soaked soaked in blood. the most chilling thing was an audio tape of brittany norwood at her hospital bed, the first interview where detectives had a chance to talk to her just hours after miss murray was killed, bludgeon to get, and savagely killed. testimony will continue at 9:30

on waste. the environmental protection agency is offering tips starting with sending juice or water in a reusable water. >> it will save you money and allow the child to drink whenever they need it. too often juice boxes are thrown away half full. >> reporter: slice fruit and put it in a reusable container. they can save leftovers for later. >> they can eat what they want, put it back and take it home either for a snack later or later in the day at school. >> reporter: buy snacks in large packages and send them off in packs instead of baggies. >> you can buy a bag of cookies that is not individually wrapped much more cheaply. >> reporter: let picky eaters decide what goes in the lunchbox. >> if they are involved in planning what they are going to eat, they are more likely going to eat it. >> reporter: the e.p.a. encourages parents to step up recycling -- encourages parents

connecticut. we nickname it the icebox of the state. good dusting of snow. that's one of the places that just about always gets it. >> eastern new york, parts of massachusetts, vermont, 1 to 5 inches of snow yesterday, and that may be a reasonable amount for us tomorrow. >> you said 40 miles north and west of dc? >> probably going to see a little bit on the grass. you get going 60 to 70 miles northwest. big problems here tomorrow evening. the bus stop forecast, no problems. chilly. you need a jacket and maybe gloves. 30s and 40s out the door this morning. sun is not up for awhy 7:31 -- for awhile. 7:31. sun and clouds mix mid-day, and then this afternoon, overcast. 41. the high temperature, 41 degrees, and the drive home temperature of 50, and the northeast wind of 10 miles an hour. this morning the temperatures are chilly.

35 in haggerstown, 35 in wind chester. same for williams port, and we are at 42. mid- to upper 40s down south of southern maryland, but definitely a colder atmosphere, and the air mass has moved in 42 with the windchill of 46. a north wind at 10 miles an hour at national. we are watching the storm system that will give us snow. looking like tomorrow, actually late tonight in the mountains through tomorrow. up north and west of town, headed to the blue ridge, up to the mason dixon line, in pennsylvania, could be tough traveling there. the system hit colorado and texas, and it's coming across the mississippi valley with rain, but it will form a coastal low it will deepen and throw the moisture to us. we will have snow in spots. as far as the precip times, look like it is all snow here, frederick to haggerstown, shenandoah valley, rain and snow. pink is the rain ending, and

>> how inexpensive. that's what the mask looks like? >> yes, i did. i'm not done yet it will be less than $6 for the whole thing, and you will have enough to complete the t-shirt. with the t-shirt, it will be 2.50. we have other t-shirts here. one over here for the kids into the slashing and burning. this is just the plain white t- shirt. what did you do? we have a spray called simply spray. it's simply spray blood, and we had to get the spooky eerie feel. we took a large oversized bandanna, and i added the skulls up there to give it the creepy feel, and it's under $10 actually. >> amazing. but jennifer is so creative which is why she has the job she has. we will show you some of the beautiful things she has created and you tell us about how difficult it is to make this phantom lady opera mask over here. >> i tell you which, it's much easier than it looks.

i took a half mask, spray painted it a bit, added holiday ribbon but just because it's halloween doesn't mean you can't use christmas ribbon. this is like a mesh, i took an ornament and cut it down because it's a butterfly in orange, and the ribbon itself was $1, and this garden pick was 2.99. the ribbon was a small part of a pool that was 4.99 but it's probably 60 cents worth of the ribbon there. >> beautiful! >> and then look at this for the door swag, this beautiful wreath you created. feathers and more of the gauzy material here, and it looks absolutely gorgeous, but it doesn't have to break the bank. >> no, it does not. you can use your own creativity, and everyone is capable of doing something like this. give yourself a little time and have a little confidence and style. you do this at home. >> and maybe check out
