which is showing the amateur nature of this setup. the -- professional testimony stands in stark contrast to what they found. bloody shoe prints were underneath objects that were laid on top of it with no blood on top of those objects. >> reporter: very poor staging, also it is shaping up to be an extraordinary afternoon. we will hear from police detective jim drury who investigated it and interviewed brittany norwood for more than four hours, we will see the videotape interview and also significant and despite the defense objections, we will see phyllis murray, jayna murray's mother take the stand. why is that so extraordinary? >> the defense rightly objected to the testimony and the judge correctly overruled them. i will say when the prosecution said she's relevant to identifying the cell phone. i would have stipulated she's relevant to identifying the car and i got rid of relevance now

virginia congressman democrat jerry connelly. there's a thanksgiving deadline for the supercommittee to come to a deal. if they don't reach agreement there's going to be automatically triggered $1.2 trillion in cuts, can they agree in time? do you think there's room for negotiation here? >> i do but i think everybody is going to have to sort of get out of their orthodoxes -- >> howard bernstein steps in with the microphone change. thank you howard, saving the day. you were saying you do think there's room for compromise. >> i think there's room for compromise. it is not rocket science. we're talking about $1.2 trillion over two years, frankly if everyone gives a little and we have a balanced approach there's no reason we can't reach the goal. >> it's good to hear optimism. we've heard sort of digging in of heels on both sides. the concept of raising taxes is the big stumbling block. republicans don't want to see the taxes raised on the wealthy
12:15 pm
and democrats do. is there wiggle room on this issue? >> there has to be. we cannot balance the budget on that alone. that's too high. but revenues at 15%. that's historically way too low. you have to lower there and raise that. that's what any corporation and any state or local government would do. that's from the federal government would go. >> let's say thanksgiving rolls around and there isn't a deal on the table. the cuts are triggered automatically. so what? what's the problem with that happening? >> i think that's a mindless way torgoch. i think it would -- to govern. i think it would represent a single failure by the congress to do its job. we created this supercommittee equally divided to come up with a package the congressmen can act on. that's our job, that's what the people sent us here to do.
12:16 pm
we need to do our job. >> the debt ceiling issue, obviously was a problem. weeks and months ago. it's now back on the table with this deadline coming up and thanksgiving. there have been some signals about if there isn't an agreement we could potentially see the u.s. debt cut again. would that be a problem for the comply? >> i think a huge problem. when standard & poor actually downgraded u.s. bonds. it cited some of the reckless rhetoric from some members of congress who said well, maybe a default wouldn't be all that bad. the united states since alexander hamilton has been good for its debt. and talking about defaulting, even for members of congress or especially from members of congress, was a very irresponsible thing to do. so we don't want to repeat that. >> well, congressman connelly. thank you for coming in to talk about the issues, these are tough issues facing america and thank you very much. >> we can do it. >> we can do it. and still to come, we've got howard up with the forecast. keep it here. >> yeah jessica, outside right
