samples and fingerprints. detective drury, i don't want to get ink in your cuts or anything. norwood, oh, it's not that bad. we know norwood's blood was found inside jayna murray's car, which made the next line of questioning particularly relevant. detective drury, do you know what kind of car jayna drives? norwood, i don't. i saw it once. i don't know the make and model. earlier in the day, a police forensic specialist demonstrated how norwood could have bound her own wrists and ankles by using her teeth to secure twist ties readily available in the store. the shoe print expert went on to testify that jayna murray shoes were not responsible for any of the bloody tracks throughout the store. and while police vigorously looked for four types of shoes based on norwood's original story, crime scene investigators only found two.

andrea mccarren, 9news now. >> that murder trial gets going again tomorrow morning. the state medical examiner is expected to be one of the first people on the witness stand. tonight, police are investigating a string of shootings that happened on halloween. last night, six people were shot in five different locations from georgetown all the way to southeast. first, someone shot a 17-year- old near the four seasons hotel in georgetown. he was critically wounded. despite halloween celebrations celebrations in that same area, that shooting and others had absolutely nothing to do with halloween. >> october is always one of our more challenging months. when the weather changes and the coats and jackets and baggy clothing starts to come on, it's easier to conceal a handgun. >> another shooting took place at georgia and decatur. a teenage boy and young woman were hurt. another young woman was shot. now there have been no arrests, but police believe those two shootings are related. turning now to campaign

2012. upon further review, republican presidential hopeful, herman cain says he does remember those allegations of sexual harassment. during an appearance at the national press club, he had denied there was a monetary settlement with an accuser. he didn't know anything about it. but later in an interview with fox news, kaine said he did know of at least one payout. two women received settlements after accusing kaine of sexual harassment back in the 1990s. he says he was cleared of any wrong doing. >> the voters in laurel, maryland, now have less than an hour to cast their ballots in the race for mayor. the polls close at 8:00 p.m. the mayor has two opponents. they are the former commissioner. and there's also a council race. >> a 12-year-old girl being hailed as a hero after a fire broke out at a district heights apartment complex. today, kristin fisher caught up

with china campbell on what she says is the biggest day of her young life. >> october 27, 2:00 p.m., a kitchen fire was spreading through the apartment complex. 12-year-old china campbell saw the smoke and heard her neighbors screaming for help. >> i was shocked, scared. i didn't know what to do. that's when i realized i was supposed to call 911. >> prince georges county 911. >> on apartment 2718, there's a fire. someone is stuck. >> china was one of the calmest, most deliberate 911 callers i have heard in a long time. to be able to give the information, the detailed information she gave about what was on fire, where the fire was, where trapped documents were. how many of them, what their ages were, it was unique. >> the fire chief now credits china with helping save the lives of these three people that were trapped on that third floor balcony. today, he presented her with the fire chief's award in front

of her entire 7th grade class at drew freeman middle school. >> i'm thrilled. words can't explain what i feel right now. i'm so proud of her. >> i'm very proud of myself. this is the biggest thing i ever did in my life. >> in district heights, kristin fisher, 9news now. >> great day for china. the fire department only hands out a dozen fire chief awards every year. ben's chili bowl is out there and they are looking for more business. the owners of the washington landmark bought a men's clothing shop that is going out of business down on the 8th street corridor. and they there spend the next several months figuring out what sort of concept will be a good fit. they are also on the lookout for other outlets. there could be a lot of chili dogs and chili burgers in our future. and the watering hole is preparing to reopen. the tune in at 3rd and pennsylvania avenue plans to welcome back the customers on friday. the historic bar and restaurant has been closed for the past 4

1/2 months because they had a fire in the kitchen. >> sounds like a big family and we are looking forward to have all the familiar faces and new ones as well that come back in and send our gratitude for supporting us. >> friends of the tune in raised $40,000 for the restaurant workers while they were out of work because of that fire. the capital area food bank is the largest nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resource in our area. since it was first founded in 1980, it has distributed nearly 30 million-pounds to more than 478,000 people. but as the season changes to fall, the food bank really gets busy trying to make sure everyone has the solid meal for the holidays. anita brikman with more. we have been talking about a hunger crisis in our region. some 600,000 people going hungry in danger of that right now, a third of them are children. and you can make a difference through donations of money,

donations of food, and through donations of your time as a volunteer. not only can people get food at area food pantries that the food bank supplies. they can also find out more about stretching their own food dollar. danielle is here with me now from the food bank. you are a nutrition specialist and you help people make the most of the money they get. is that right if. >> that's right. >> what is it? this is the $16 bag of food? >> exactly. this is the $16 bag. the $16 bag is a tool that was developed by the nutrition education department at the capital areas food bank and $16 is the minimum allotment that an individual or a family can receive on the snap program, which was formally called the food stamps program. >> that doesn't sound like a lot. what do you have in here? >> we have whole wheat tortillas. we have no salt added canned tomatoes.

bank of america officially giving up on plans today to charge its customers $5 a month to use their debit cards to buy things. the change of heart is from a backlash from customers. other large banks indicated they would not be charging similar fees. and there's a new monument honoring the nation's 40th president. the facility was named after him 13 years ago. transportation secretary ray

temperatures 30s and 40s under light winds. the afternoon looking nice. once again, very similar to today. mostly sunny and pleasant. highs near 60 degrees. here's your zone forecast. oakland 45. cumberland mid 50s. winchester 57. leesburg 57. culpeper, you'll make it to 61 degrees for wednesday afternoon. around downtown, 59. same deal for andrews, pax river 59. easten 60 with plenty of sunshine. so you may want to take a nice walk if you want after lunch or after you get home, but definitely dress in layers because it will be nice in the afternoon. your wednesday day planner breaks down like this. a chilly start as you are heading out the door. 34 to 44 degrees. by noon for lunchtime, mid 50s. low to mid 50s and by 5:00, 56 to 61 degrees. plenty of sunshine. still cool. average high for this time of year is around 64. your next few days, milder thursday with clouds moving in.

low 60s friday. temperature wise, not too bad. low 60s, but maybe some showers are possible. light stuff. for the weekend, low to mid 60s for saturday and sunday. and then for monday and tuesday, partly cloudy, mid 60s. don't forget to set your clocks back an hour saturday night before you're heading to bed for sunday. >> all right, good advice. let's get to the weird news tonight. because talk about your last meal. to south florida where they caught and killed a large python right after he had feasted on a 76-pound deer. now this python was 16 feet long, but look at him. looks like he is as far around as he was long. he's all swollen up. he ate the deer. they tell us the deer was probably dead when it was eaten. how nice. sadly, they had to kill the python to keep his species from spreading north. autopsy results say the snake had a girth of 44 inches after eating the deer and they found it still fully in tact inside

the zombie picture of obama is nothing to get upset over and the reactions of the people on the news are simply so over the top dramatic, it's a wonder that you can always find people to fill your news, but it gets rather old. try to find some real news, something worthy of attention. they have enough issues without you finding things for them to be ashamed of, almost as many as the democrats. you know what, randall, besides the partisan thing, i'm with you. beyond the bullet in the forehead thing, which is sensitive. why can't people who want to make fun of the president make a picture look like a zombie? calling him a baby, i thought that was over the top and i said so. zombie picture? if you complain about that, what can you do? as i like to say, let's not go crazy here, folks, unless it's crazy in the name of mcginty's mail bag. then it's okay. the address is mailbag@wusa9.com. that's our report.
