. breaking news. a double shooting in a suburban shopping mall. we're live on the scene as detectives investigate. and only on 9:00, a woman who accused herrmann cain of harassment says she wants to come forward but can't. plus the serial killer praying on the innocent and unsuspected. tonight they take us on a dark descent into the mind of madness. this is 9news now. and we begin with late

breaking news out of prince george's county. right now police are working the scene of a deadly shooting outside of the shopping center. >> it happened around 8:00 on the 3300-block of walters lane. that is in for it'sville. that is also -- forestville. that is where ken is live with the details. ken, what happened? >> reporter: that is exactly what police are trying to figure out right now. we have received late breaking information. the person has been officially identified as 27-year-old anthony washington. take a look over my shoulder. let's try to set this one up for you here. you can see police are still on the scene here of the penn forest shopping center. it was in this parking lot that that 27-year-old was shot and killed. let's go ahead right no and show you some footage from our sky9. they were above the scene just moments after this all happened. here is what police say. they say this all went down at about 8:15 earlier today. two people they say were shot. one of those persons -- one of those people did die. that is 27-year-old anthony washington. a second person who they have

not identified was rushed to the hospital, we understand, with non-life-threatening injuries. now, police say at the time of the shooting, this entire parking lot was packed with people. so there were definitely people here when the shooting took place. again, this is still an early investigation. take a listen to what police are saying. >> it's still very early in the investigation. all we know is the second victim was able to go into one of the nearby stores and ask for help. we had a call for sound of shots at the same time. we're still piecing together how and why this happened. >> reporter: now, there is a suspect behind all of this. we're being told it is a single black male believed to be in his 20s. he was last seen wearing black clothing and a mask. as you continue to take a look at the live pictures out here outside of the penn forest shopping center, part of this investigation i'm being told by police is to take a look at all of the surveillance cameras from all of the nearby businesses that are here. as you can see, this is a shopping center where a lot of people come to. right now there is a liquor store that is open and a couple

of restaurants behind me. so right now investigators are talking to the people trying to figure out exactly what happened here. but, again, this investigation is still in its early stages. we will certainly hear more about this tomorrow morning. we're live in forestville, back to you guys. >> all right, ken molestina. well, new tonight, more people for gop presidential front runner herrmann cain. yesterday there was allegations of a sexual assault. tonight one of the accusers says she wants to talk about it but she cannot. our matt jablow is live in northwest dc where he has been staking cain out all night long. any word, matt. >> reporter: it was a long but fruitless stake out here tonight. we saw herrmann cain throw very briefly but did not -- though very briefly but did not get to talk to him at all. republican presidential candidate herrmann cain was not in a talkative mood as he snuck in a side entrance of a steakhouse on third avenue.

>> i was accused of sexual harassment. falsely accused, i might add. >> reporter: cain's meeting with several top republican lawmakers came on the same day that one of the two women who accused cain of sexual harassment back in the 90s said she would like to tell her side of the story but is prohibited from doing so according to her attorney by the terms of a confidentiality agreement. >> i think the national restaurant association out to wave the confidentiality let the two women come forward. >> reporter: he has denied the charges of sexual harassment though tonight the outspoken former radio host was not speaking at all, at least not to reporters. late tonight the lawyer for one of the alleged victims of sexual harassment told 9news that he plans on meeting with his client tomorrow and should know more at that point about the possibility of her speaking publicly about

the case. derek. >> i think there were thoughts this might die down quickly. obviously not going to happen now. matt jablow, thank you. new at 11:00, big box stores in montgomery county. tonight the county held a public hearing on whether or not to make wal-marts of the world adhere to special guidelines. one county proposal would dictate the hours, design. it could drive developers away. supporters say big box stores should not destroy a neighborhood's character. the county proposal would apply to stores that are at least 75,000 square feet. that is larger than a football field. and this just in. preliminary election results out of laurel, maryland. it looks like craig mow has taken the lead in the race for mayor. the inincumbent is beating out -- incumbent is beating out the mayor with 49% of the votes.

in the at large election, mark lesacz has taken over. prosecutors in the lululemon murder trial are expected to rest the case tomorrow and today the lead homicide detective in the case took the stand. jim drury detailed his many hours interviewing brittany norwood when she was still considered a victim, not a suspect. but that quickly changed as her story started to unravel. she is accused of bludgeoning jayna murray back in march and then creating an elaborate crime scene to cover it up. she did kill murray during a fight but say it was not premeditated murder. although some of norwood's friends were so shocked by the crime the co-workers of many of the nation's most noteable serial killers. the gut feelings we have about people, they can be dangerous. it's a lesson one profiler said we can all apply to our own

life. >> reporter: green river killer gary ridge way believed to have slaughtered many women friends thought nice guy. >> he was able to carry off this side of him that said there is nothing wrong with me. and in the interview, he was very nice and very entertaining to talk with. >> reporter: former fbi profiler mary ellen otoole writes in dangerous instincts about lots of dangerous killers. >> i had to remind myself don't forget why they're here in jail or in prison because they came across as so charming and so nice and really so i will never hurt you appearance about them that it was stunning. >> reporter: toy box killer david parker ray may be 60 women dead, tortured them in an underground chamber. >> when i first met him, he was

amazingly warm and amazingly charming. >> reporter: it happened to me. sat on a bench in the prison when david burkowitz sat down next to me. >> i guess what is so confusing is that you can sit across the table from them and in your case you knew exactly what he had been convicted of and that you walk away saying i really like that man. >> reporter: life lesson. don't go with that gut instinct. >> and yet unfortunately, we make decisions about people on superficial indicators all of the time. and that really can and does get people into trouble. >> reporter: gut feeling reality check. >> if you have perfect instincts, if you have a life that is really problem free in terms of relationships, personal life, financial life, et cetera, keep doing what you're doing. but i don't think that is the case for most people. >> reporter: so what do you do do? the answer is to go beyond gut instinct. make an effort to find out facts to investigate as best as you

can. because many of the victims trusted their gut instincts and are dead. derek. >> sadly, gary, sometimes gut is all you have. talk about a violent halloween in washington dc. six victims shot, five separate crime scenes. and only one arrest. dc police say three of those victims are teenagers, including a 17-year-old who was shot in the head right near the four seasons hotel in georgetown. tonight he's in the hospital with critical injuries. one person is now in custody connected with that crime. now, despite people celebrating the spooky holiday yesterday, police chief cathy lanier says the shootings had nothing to do with halloween. >> october is always one of our more challenging months. when the weather changes and the coats and the jackets and the baggy clothing starts to come on, it's easier to conceal a handgun. having a handgun available to you if an argument occurs is always a recipe for disaster. >> dc police say there have been 418 assaults with a dangerous weapon this year. that is compared to 510 at the

same time last year. there were also 13 homicides in october compared to 14 in the same month last year. on now to tonight's health alert. there is a new study that shows even low amounts of alcohol over a period of time can increase a woman's risk of breast cancer. research in the journal of the american medical association or jama shows women who drink small amounts of alcohol, 3-6 drinks a week, increase their risk of breast cancer by 15%. they also found heavier drinkers, women who have at least two drinks per day increase their risk by more than 50% compared to women who don't drink at all. >> it's most important what someone does over a long period of time, not what she just does over the past week or past month. >> so why is this? doctors aren't quite sure what the connection is between alcohol and breast cancer, but they think something about alcohol fuels estrogen in the body. the study says it's up to an individual women to weigh her

and tonight the safe way supermarket chain says they just may have mishandled the case of a pregnant mom arrested for shoplifting. >> i'm infuriated. i can't -- i cannot believe that this has been taken so far. >> yes, it has. and it happened last week. her husband and 2-year-old daughter were shopping down there and the parents decided they were hungry so they decided to get some sandwiches and eat them while they were roaming the aisles. they always intended to pay for them but they forgot when they checked out. so while they were leaving the safe way store, employees pulled up, the couple said we'll pay but the manager said too late. store policy is to press charges. so they were arrested and child protective services kept their little daughter overnight. >> i wonder if she brushed her

satellite radar. they have blizzard warnings out from midnight until noon tomorrow. another blizzard for them. you can sort of see the storm just getting going. it's going to be rain and then go to snow. this whole system is going to move to the east. there are some indications that can it actually pass to our south on friday. right now we'll keep the chance, at least chance for light rain. not snow this time. light rain. either way it will not change the weekend forecast which looks pretty good. a chilly start on wednesday. it's going to be cool but a nice finish. light winds and lots of sunshine. a pretty nice day. now, thursday still looks okay. we still may see some high clouds ahead of the storm and friday, yes, rain is possible. there is nothing like a lot of rain but rain is possible on friday. especially in the afternoon. overnight clear skies and cold. one blanket night. low 34-44. and winds will be light. now, tomorrow morning mostly sunny and chilly. you'll need a jacket and sunglasses. 30s and 40s. but the good news here really, light winds continue.

even into the afternoon. mostly sunny and pleasant. high temperatures near 60 which is a shade below average. but you factor in the light winds and it's going to feel a little warmer than it actually is which is kind of nice. high temperatures, if you're in arlington and springfield, you'll probably make 50. 59 in college park and 59 in bowie. to the south in charles county, make 60 in waldorf. probably won't quite make 60 in reston and fairfax and sterling and herndon. maybe 58 in leesburg and manassas and also middleburg. so your day planner then looks like this. 34-44 to start in the morning. clear skies. 52-56 by noon. very nice day. maybe a light jacket walking for lunch. and then 56-61 by evening. we'll call it cool but a great looking day. now, the next three days, thursday we're okay. we're dry but notice the clouds will come in in the afternoon ahead of the storm. 62. right now we'll keep the chance for some rain on friday.

a little bit cooler. temperatures around 60. now the next seven days, even if the storm were to hit us on friday, we're still in great shape over the weekend. and a lot is going on this weekend. we have the heart walk at nats park saturday morning. the terps are in town saturday afternoon. sunshine. it's going to be a 49-hour weekend because we turn our clocks back one hour to go back to saving time. and then we're looking at a great sunday for the redskins game. weather will be nice. game probably won't be so nice.
