andrea roane. >> love fridays. pizza day was always friday in school. hopefully do that today. good morning, i'm mike hydeck, wait a minute. that's sort of a tease. there's monika samtani and boy do you have traffic. she'll explain. and mr. howard bernstein, weekend is coming here. >> it's looking good just chillier around here but if you need to get out. rake some leaves or something? it's going to be a good weekend to do that and even see some of the nice leaves that are still on the trees. you know we haven't had a lot of wind. we'll get a little bit later today. temperatures which will be 55 to to 60-degree range this afternoon. clouds probably hanging on through midday and then sunnier and sunnier through the afternoon. with high temperatures 55 to 60. about 56 for that drive home. right now we sit at 50 in town with some 40s in the burbs. shop sours tried to -- some showers tried to get close but really from richmond southward the north carolina boarder and down into the carolinas a few sprinkles also in southern west virginia out there. but this is going to slide

south of us, the clouds though are going into northern areas in central pennsylvania. the showers down to ash land and richmond and st. mary's city. vii for them and 43 in frederick and oakland are the cool spots. monika samtani. got a fatal accident this morning. in fact we're going to take a look life right now on the inner belt at georgia avenue. this involved this tractor- trailer and a car behind it. and again authorities have been on the scene investigating and cleaning up at the scene in silver spring. you can go no further than connecticut avenue but at this point, i think authorities are trying to open up some lanes, i know we're on the scene and in a couple of minutes surae will have more on what's going on at the scene of the accident but in the meantime, plan early. if you're planning to go to the beltway. let's take a look at the map. i suggest that you take the inner loop of the beltway do connecticut avenue. get off there and go ahead and either take that southbound over to the east-west highway

and route 29 or northbound to university boulevard and make your way around the accident scene. again it's been there since 1:40 and hopefully be clearing that up shortly. let's go to the other side. there's another accident inner loop at kenilworth avenue southbound side of the beltway. two right lanes are blocked there. stay to the left to get by. we'll take a live look at the beltway in college park and outer loop side you will be okay through silver spring here and heading by the accident at kenilworth as well. coming up in mimmicks report, another update at 5:10. back to you. >> again going back to the story, maryland state police are investigating a deadly crash on the beltway. >> just before 2:00 this morning on the inner loop between connecticut and georgia avenues. surae chinn is live with the conditions on the road. at least some cars are moving surae. >> reporter: well, we are on the outer loop and traffic is going just fine. but the inner loop as we look across, that's where the accident happened. that's where the problems are and that's where the inner loop is shut down. we have seen some movement

here. maybe an indication that things are clearing out. the tractor-trailer has just moved out of the area. it has driven out but i do see from my vantage point. the tractor-trailer slowed down for some reason and a driver behind et rammed into the rack of the semi. this all happened around 1:40 this morning. there were a couple of things happening at the same time. there was a work zone going on and a fender-bender. so as you move around the bend here on the inner loop. that's what drivers encountered. we don't know if that's the reason why the tractor-trailer driver slowed down but we know that the driver of the car has died. the medical examiner was here  on the scene removing the body from that car. so it might be a few more minutes. they wanted to gatlings cleared out by 5:00. but -- get things cleared out by 5:00. but they're still here, they

haven't seen the roads open yet or we haven't seen that yet and some of the emergency crews are still here. so we'll keep monitoring the situation and may believe they'll get it wrapped up in the next 10, 15 minutes and we'll let you know as it becomes more clear for us. back to you. >> thank you surae chinn is live in silver spring this morning near the beltway. sky 9 was over the scene of an apartment fire. this is this was last night. about a dozen people had to stand out in the cold. no word yet on any injuries, the cause of the fire is tell under investigation. and investigators will resume trying to figure out what sparked fire that turned a home in aspen hill into a death trap. 67-year-old sandra vidas died in the fire. her husband survived with serious injuries. it took more than 50 montgomery county firefighters to put out the blaze early yesterday morning. neighbors believe the homeowners allegedly hoarding may have played a part in the fire. >> it's a mess. i was just talking to the fire

marshal and he said this is a textbook example of what some even older people tend to do is to hoard all kind of stuff and it comes back to haunt you. >> what else though contributed to the outcome? fire investigators say the family had no working fire alarms. two firefighters were also hurt with nonlife-threatening injuries. it appears santa claus is coming to the town of harrisburg, pennsylvania after all. the cash-strapped city had plans to cancel its annual holiday parade after filing for federal bankruptcy protection last month. two local businesses worked together to come up with $39,000 to indeed hold the parade. it's traditionally marked as the start of the holiday season with floats and bands and balloons and of course the arrival of santa. time for the latest your money report of the report. >> indeed it is and that's joy jessica doyle is here. >> good morning, investors are tiptoeing into today's trading session with a little bit of

optimism. stocks had a great day yesterday on word that greeced scrapped the unpopular referendum. checking the numbers from wall street. the dow standing this morning at 12,044. finished the day up 208 points yesterday. nasdaq up by 57 almost 58 points. and the s&p 500 was better by 23. the jobs report is due out this morning after a report yesterday showed unemployment claims fell to the lowest level in five weeks. still traders expect the unemployment rate to hold steady at 9.1% in october. about 100,000 jobs were likely created last month. and daily deals giant groupon makes the public debut this morning on wall street. in its initial public offering it's raising about $700 million. the stock price well above expectations at $20 a share. this indicates n fors are eager to -- investors are eager to snap up the stock. this ipo price gives groupon a

47. along with vienna and fairfax. out west haymarket is 45. leesburg, 48 it's 49 at springfield. and the warm spot on the board, reagan national 50 degrees with cloudy skies. light winds, off the river there out of the south southeast at 3. and our humidity this morning, 86%. storm system is passing to the south. you can see this counterclockwise rotation coming out of kentucky and of course straddling the north carolina and virginia border and that's where the heaviest rains are and will stay. this will push east and southeast away from us thanks to the front that's also coming through. this will tend to kick this system out of here. into the afternoon hours by 2:00, we start to see the clouds than here in the metro. sunshine returns earlier north works its way south during the afternoon. and then we say good-bye to this system and the chill moves in for tonight. tomorrow morning, going out for those walks it will be in the 30s to near 40s. so probably need some gloves and ear muffs and we're in good

still mostly cloudy in most areas by 9:00 a.m. low 50s in southern maryland. but notice how the sun is going to move in from north to south through the lunch hour. and then this afternoon, more and more sunshine. 57 degrees by 3:00. we will finish the day with lots of sunshine. temperatures by 6:00 down to 54. with a very brisk north wind at times gusting over 20 miles per hour. that's a look at weather, now over to sports this friday morning with kristen berset. the san francisco 49ers have yet to allow a rushing touchdown the season. it's a pretty impressive stat but a very daunting one if you're the redskins and you can't even put a single point on the board. so the skins' offense needs to somehow find their groove again if they want a w on sunday. the skins' defense also needs to get their act together. led by qb alex smith the 49ers are sixth in the league and points and rushing yards. much of that is thanks to runningback frank gore. the guy is a machine. the skins are giving up an

luray. also down in la plata andrews is down to 46. look at annapolis right now at 53. our high temperatures today, ooh, mid- to upper 50s to near 60. south and southeast and even manassas. so a cooler air mass moving in. monika? we're going to talk about this fatal accident that happened on the inner loop of the beltway about 1:40 this morning here at georgia avenue. as you can see across the roadways traffic is now getting by through silver spring. our surae chinn is on the scene and veal have more details in a couple of minutes. in the meantime, the other side inner loop at connecticut avenue. as you can see the delays have eased. you're getting by now and you should be okay although there is still some activity so slow down through that area in silver spring. let's take you over to the other side of town on the inbounds side of i-66. slow traffic because of an accident right at the beltway just getting word that it's in the light lane. be aware of that in the area of

66 close to the beltway. and 395 at duke street overall northbound 95 occoquan as you can see 395 running at speed to the 14th street bridge. coming up in my next report,, more on area road conditions at 5:39. back to you guys. thank you monika. maryland state police are investigating still that deadly crash on the beltway. >> that was just before 2:00 this morning on the inner loop between connecticut and georgia avenues, surae chinn is live with more overlooking the crash location. surae, over to you. >> reporter: okay. all lanes are open. just a few minutes ago. i want to say that we are on the outer loop looking across from the accident scene. we still have the tractor- trailer here that has been pushed to the side. for an inspection. they want to make sure all the mechanics, the brakes and all that kind of stuff is working properly. but moments ago we shot this video about 10 minutes ago, a video of the car being towed away.

a really terrible accident when you take a look at the video of this car just crumpled basically smuched in half. the front end unrecognizable. the top part peeled off and we can see some of that video as the car being towed away from the scene. just about 10 minutes ago. become out here live, you can -- back out here live, you can see the tractor-trailer still getting its inspection. the food news is that all -- good news is that all lanes of traffic openedup just in time for the morning rush hour but we have to say that it's a very tragic accident. the driver of the car has died. no information or identity has been released at this point. wax to you. >> thanks surae chinn live in silver spring and continue to follow the story and bring you more as soon as we get it this morning. he's aciesed of beating and stabbing his estranged wife to death as she slept and then killing her 11-year-old son later with a baseball bat. prosecutors are calling curtis

lopez a cold-blooded premeditated killer. the motive they say was part of a plan to steal jane mcquain's car for his new girlfriend. they say after he murdered mcquain inside her jermantown home, he went and picked up william from a sleepover. police say surveillance video from a gas station in clarksburg shows the final moments before the little boy died. >> the reality is it's not like tv. >> william's body was found. profound serious injuries to this child. about 100 yards from where that video was shot in the gas station. >> who can do that to a child? police found a bloody bat just a few feet away from where lopez allegedly used it to beat his stepson so death. a public defender argued all the evidence is just circumstantial. but a judge found it compelling and given what is calls lopez's horrendous criminal history he refused to set any bail that would get him out of jail.

jury deliberations continue today in the federal corruption case against maryland state senator curry. his lawyers argue too many people knew about curry's agreement that he had with the shoppers food warehouse grocery chain store. however prosecutors say the agreement was a sham curry used to extort $245,000 in exchange for political favors. 5:35. time for another your money report this morning. >> jessica doyle is back and it's time to do some holiday shopping already? >> i still have candy corns on any dining room table. >> i'm even behind this year. >> this is really getting early. the stores are broadcasting their plans earlier and earlier for black friday. wal-mart, is already giving hundreds a sneak peek of black friday deals available online. if you're on facebook right now, check out some of the deals on wal-mart's fan page. target is also saying it's going to open its doors at midnight so after you die jest that turkey, you can beat the

go back an hour. daylight saving time comes to an end. sunday 58 and then next week, mild, warming up into the mid- and upper 60s monday, tuesday and wednesday. let's go to monika samtani now. we got an update on timesaver traffic. been a very busy morning. in fact we're going to take a live look at the beltway inner loop side at georgia avenue. looking at a tractor-trailer that was involved in an early morning fatal accident as you can see traffic is now getting by here in silver spring. and delays have eased but that paperwork and investigation is still going to take some time. so take it easy through that area on the inner loop at georgia avenue. a look now on the other side of the beltway. if you're planning to head on the inner loop at i-95, there's another accident reported in college park. and then on the outer loop at old georgetown road it looks like a deer was struck as well. three stat incidents on the -- separate incidents on the topside of the beltway. be aware of that as you travel and just take it nice and slow
