crazy. >> reporter: if you follow the tire tracks it sure looks like a wild ride. police are releasing very little information except to state the obvious that a car collided into several parked vehicles. >> i was in the house and we heard a loud boom. >> reporter: but neighbors who heard the commotion early this morning have quite the story to tell. >> the police were out here chasing a guy. they say he was a drunk driver. and he had sideswiped all of the cars and the car went airborne. >> reporter: delia gonclaves. >> police have not confirmed whether this was a police chase or there was a drunk driver there but they are working on identifying a suspect and hope to have an arrest warrant out for that pretty soon. a pretty scary call came in, one that prompted worries of a possible anthrax attacks. employees thought they heard an explosion and saw white powder. all of that turned out to be a false alarm but the response by

local and federal emergency teams, we can that was pretty impressive. first quarantined employees and moved them into a school bus just in case there was some contamination. then they sent in a robot to test the air quality. and finally a hazmat worker in a moon suit went in to look for contaminants but everything came up negative. >> there was an electrical issue. >> i'm actually happy that they did respond the way they did because it could have been serious. >> thank goodness that everything is okay and nobody got hurt. it was something not real bad. >> thank goodness. turns out employees did hear a pop from a bail ast -- from a ballast. gang related sex

trafficking is on the rise. five ring leaders brought to justice in the last few months. a fairfax man with ties to the notorious ms13 street gang was sentenced to 24 years in prison for luring teenage girls into the horrific world of child prostitution. a gang member was sentenced to life in prison for prosecuting a 12-year-old girl preying on the vulnerable girls, most of them run aways. many forced them to perform sex acts for $30, $40. >> these young girls were forced to have sex in the back of gas stations, at construction sites, at motels across the area. >> on weekends and after the parties the girls were offered to the ms13 members for free. we posted a national hot line number on our website wusa9.com. the man charged with starting several fires in

washington, d.c., including one that injured four firefighters pretty seriously plead guilty in court today. the fires were started over a three and a half year period. one set in a vacant house in the northeast and it hurt three firefighters. he will be sentenced in february. a federal judge in florida wants to unseal the records in a lawsuit over those 2001 anthrax attacks. maureen stevens sued the u.s. government after her husband died after he was exposed to that anthrax. she settled that lawsuit early this week and now the judge wants to know why the records ought to be kept sealed. that would include personnel information of bruce ivan, the scientist behind the attacks. and contains information about where ivans worked. one whole week of sexual allegations against herman cain and very little impact on poll numbers for the republican

presidential candidate. bruce leshan reports on a brand- new, nationwide washington post survey taken after the scandal broke which still has cain neck in neck with mitt romney. >> i will never apologize for the greatness of the united states of america. misplaced grave sites. they told a senator that when she was touring the cemetery today. she heads up a committee looking on mistakes at arlington. workers checked 86% of the 260,000 headstones there and so far they say none were incorrectly marked. however, they have found tens of thousands with some wrong information like a date of birth or perhaps a misspelled name. the whole investigation began last year after discovery of hundreds of mismarked or unmarked graves. this just into the 9news now information center. the federal emergency management agency approved the governor's appeal to get aid for earthquake victims in louisa county. now getting federal assistance. the agency denied the original request at the start of october. tremendous weather all week long. forgot about what it looked like with that snow. what does it look like? >> it will be cold tonight if

for the first time since july the unemployment rate here in this country actually dipped a bit last month. it is now down to 9.1%. the lowest level in seven months. but not all of the news on jobs is so good. the economy added just 80,000 on them and that's the fewest since the summer and both political parties say it is a sign there is still a lot of

the man accused of killing his coworker at a frederick burger king will not be going back there to face charges until the end of this month. right now he is in federal custody up in baltimore. there he is waiting to be sentenced for federal immigration charges. but that hear has been postponed until november 28th. he illegally reentered this country after being deported to

el salvador two years ago. a hot button issue in frederick county, maryland, for years now for illegal immigration and this murder case made the issue that much hotter. scott broom reports how the surprising turn in that case has some county leaders looking for new, perhaps controversial ways to keep illegal immigrants out of. >> reporter: this is the 21- year-old that was deported once from frederick county back to el salvador in 2009 after a conviction for armed robbery here. but he managed to sneak back into the country and is now the prime suspect in the murder of a coworker at this frederick burger king last march. >> he snuck back into the country, came back to frederick county. >> reporter: the county council president cites the burger king case as evidence for a new effort to make frederick county off limits to illegal immigrants bypassing controversial and tough local laws. >> so we feel that there is an issue. these are just the ones that hit the radar screen because they have committed some type

of crime. >> reporter: among the proposals now under consideration a local law to force employers and landlords to background checks and face local sanctions for hiring or renting to illegals. it is an idea that worries some business owners. >> it shouldn't be something that is so hard that you've got to spend thousands of dollars on each time you want to search. >> we are open for business but we want to be the most unfriendliest county in the state of maryland when it comes to illegal ailens. >> reporter: already frederick county law enforcement is required to check immigration status on everyone in arrests. already that has resulted in nearly 1000 deportations since 2007. and some local leaders would like to see a lot more. in frederick, scott broom, 9news now. >> so is the county right to require businesses to verify the immigration status of its employees or could this perhaps lead to a witch hunt? and what would happen if every

in the mail bag tonight just a little blow back. craig complained that our interview with the family of murder victim jayna murray went too far. another disagrees. so many of us felt utter horror and empathy for the murray family. unanswered questions will probably always prevail. what could manifest such rage? we the public needed to see the family get some kind of result. although it will never be a replacement for their beautiful wonderful daughter. i believe the coverage was a vital service to the murray family and us. another saying something about the sexual harassment allegations still swirling all around the presidential hopeful herman cain. if the women alleging that he sexually harassed them let them come up with evidence. if not herman cain should sue

them for defamation of character. i think the fact that at least two women were paid thousands of dollars to shut up and go away means something out of the ordinary went down. though so far the majority of cain supporters say doesn't make any difference to them. meantime, over on our facebook page intense reaction to the story we ran yesterday featuring that 10-year-old boy who lost both of his legs after a hospital apparently misdiagnosed a horrible infection. they are suing for malpractice. terry writes i wouldn't be so quick to place all the blame on the doctor. medicine is not an exact science. each patient is different and some end up with a bad outcome regardless of the efforts of the medical staff. and that i'm sure will be the hospital's argument. your arguments are always welcome right here in the mail bag. the address mailbag@wusa9.com. that's our report. i'll be right back here tonight at 11 p.m. along with anita brikman.
