paterno's staff, is charged with sexually assaulting young boys. two charged in the cover-up stepped down. drew levinson has more. >> reporter: former penn state defense coordinator jerry sandusky is out on jail, charged with sexually assaulting eight underage boys. hes he didn't do it. >> jerry's very, very depressed, upset, distraught about the allegations. >> reporter: sandusky coached at penn state before retiring in 1999. the grand jury concludes sandusky had access to vulnerable children through a charity he founded for at-risk kids. pennsylvania attorney general said, this is a case about a sexual predator who used his position within the university and community to repeatedly prey on young boys.

lawyers are also investigating a possible cover-up. in 2002 a graduate assistant reported he saw sandusky assaulting a 10-year-old boy in a shower. legendary head coach joe paterno passed the complaint on to athletic director tim curley and a vice president, gary schultz. prosecutors charged those two with not alerting police. curley and schultz say they did nothing wrong and deny the charges. still, they're expected to turn themselves in here at harrisburg. students at penn state are stunned. >> heartbreaking. >> you don't expect those here at penn state. >> it's sad that it's at our school and he's involved with young kids. it's just sad. >> reporter: drew levinson, cbs news, harrisburg, pennsylvania. penn state head coach joe paterno has not been charged. prosecutors say he first learned of it in 2002. they say paterno told

university's athletic director tim curley, who's charged with a cover-up, but paterno did not call the police. last night he issued a statement saying, quote, he's shocked and saddened by the charges saying, if this is true, we were all fooled. in other news this morning, growing outrage in connecticut. nearly 90,000 homes and businesses are still without power. eight days after that october snowstorm. connecticut's largest utility thought it returned power to 99% of its customers by last night. it now says that didn't happen. it could be days before electricity is fully restored. folks in oklahoma feeling aftershocks from the two quakes that struck there saturday. second one hit saturday night, a magnitude 5.6, centered about 40 miles northeast of oklahoma city. it was the strongest quake ever recorded in oklahoma. >> it started rumbling. we were hanging onto the dresser because we felted li like we we

going to fall. and it was a long one. it just went on and on and on. and i kept thinking, is that going to be over? >> some buildings and highways suffered minor damage. several minor injuries were reported. in atlanta, a police crackdown on anti-wall street demonstrators continued this morning. at least five people were arrested early today. one say one refused to leave a park close to demonstrators. the others are bicycles are accused of blocking traffic. this follows 19 arrests on saturday. most are been released. in washington proponents of a pipeline project stage aid big demonstration across from the white house yesterday. the key stone pipeline would carry oil from canada down to the refineries in the gulf of mexico and create thousands of jobs. opponents fear an environmental disaster. they want president obama to block the plan. politics. her man cain says he won't answer any more allegations that he sexually harassed women in

the 1990s and he got a little testy about it. susan mcginnis is in washington with more on it. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, terrell. herman cain is getting a big dose of what it means to be in the media spotlight as a presidential front-runner. the questions about this scandal are not stopping and his answers may be starting to impact the poll numbers. herman cain says he is done talking about his sexual hara harassment scandal. >> don't even go there. >> can i ask my question? >> no. where's my chief of staff. >> right here. >> who sent him the journalistic code of ethics? >> reporter: following a debate in texas saturday night, the residential candidate cut off a reporter who tried to bring up the allegations against him. cain has repeatedly denied sexually harassing anyone and says he wants to return to focusing on the country's major issues. >> we are getting back on message. back on message. >> reporter: while cain may be

finished discussing the controversy, his rivals are just getting started. >> it's up to herman cain to get the information out and get it out in total. >> reporter: it's still unclear how much the scandal will impact cain's campaign. a poll on friday had him still tied with mitt romney, but another on sunday showed a nine-point drop in his favorability rating. >> he's not out of this yet. he can't basically say i'm not going to answer any more questions on this. as facts come forward, republicans want a win. >> reporter: cain will likely face more questions tonight. he'll join six of his republican rivals in a three-hour town hall broadcast on the radio. now, that debate in texas, by the way, featured only cain and newt gingrich, the only two who accepted the invitation. >> susan mcginnis in washington for us, thank you. it's reported defense secretary leon panetta is considering major pentagon

budget. he has been ordered to cut $450 million from the defense budget. he told "the new york times" that could force further downsizing of troop strength, reducing weapons purchases and closing bases. government leaders in greece met today to decide who will be the country's new prime minister. last night they agreed to form a 15-week interim government. the current prime minister, george papandreou, says he's step down. there are new disclosures this morning about iran's secret nuclear research program. in a report to be released, the international atomic agency says it has evidence that iran mastered critical steps to build a nuclear weapon. the washington post says they have records showing iran was helped by foreign scientists, including a former soviet weapons expert. coming up on the "morning news" it's not just an age gap, the wealth gap is wider than ever before. he's an award winner again. now justin bieber trying to prove he is not a dad.

kate are getting a new home. that apartment will be ready to go in 2013. the couple currently lives in a rented house in wales. widespread speculation kate might be pregnant but no comment from the royals. on the "cbs moneywatch" on this monday, a down day for stocks in asia. >> good morning. asian markets were mostly louer today with investors worrying greece still won't be able to work its way out of the debt crisis. japan's nikkei edged down a fraction while hong kong's hang seng lost about 1%. today wall street tries to kick off a rally, a new rally. last week stocks lost ground with their first weekly loss since september. both the dow and nasdaq were down about 2%. the wealth gap between younger and older americans has never been wider. according to just released census data. typical household headed by someone 65 or holder has a net worth 47 times greater than one

headed by someone under age 35. 37% of younger age households have a net worth of zero or less, a figure that has doubled since 1984. and thousands of americans hit the streets saturday for the so-called national bank transfer day. the internet movement urged big bank customers to close their accounts and switch to credit unions. it's unsure how many did switch their accounts. credit ratings reported gaining more than 650,000 new customers. barnes & noble will reportedly intro a new nook today. it's been a hit since it's launch in 2009 but the company has been under pressure from amazon's kindle. some internet reports suggest the new barnes & noble device will be more tablet computer than echreader. at the movies "puss & boots"

rockies. only 30s and 40s in montana. northwest has more rain on the way. in sports, a bunch of last-second wins on nfl sunday. in the night game we go to pittsburgh. ravens quarterback's flacco connects with smith, just eight seconds left on the clock. baltimore beat steelers 23-20. foxboro, massachusetts, giants quarterback manning threw a one yard touchdown pass, just 15 second left there. that gave new york 24-20 victory over the new england patriots. and in overtime, we go to glendale, arizona, peterson of the cardinals caught a punt on the 1 yard line. dives and bounces off tacklers and outran every one of them. 99 yards for the touchdown. arizona wins 19-13 over st. louis. it's only the second punt return for an overtime touchdown in nfl history. in the new york marathon, the course record was shattered.
