propofol and self-administered a fatal dose once murray left his bedroom. murray was criminally negligent, he was a wreckless physician who abandoned jackson while he was under the affects of that anesthetic. during the time that verdict was read, jermaine jackson, and la toya jackson, and his parents were inside the courtroom. now you're seeing what happened outside the courthouse. fans of michael jackson were chanting guilty, guilty over and over. murray faces up to four years in prison. he will also lose his medical license and he is no longer a free man. >> dr. murray's wreckless conduct in this case poses a risk to the safety of the public. if dr. murray remains out of custody on bond, and even though dr. murray is a medical doctor and even though he has been practicing public safety demands that he be remanded. based upon my evaluation of all of these factors, i conclude

that remand is appropriate. dr. murray is remanded to the sheriff with no bail. >> there you can see as soon as the judge made that announcement, you can see conrad murray being, you know, assisted to stand up and put in handcuffs and later he will be led out of that courtroom. you heard the judge say that he is going to be held without bail until he is sentenced later this month. that will be taking place on november 29. now in terms of the jury, the jury has been released. they have been so questerred for some time. this trial has been going on for six weeks now, but they have been released and they are now free to talk to whomever they please, including the media. we don't know if any of the jurors are going to come out and tell us why they went with the guilty charge. that is certainly up to them. however, they cannot accept any sort of payment for up to 90 days. so really now is just kind of a

waiting game to see if anybody is going to want to come up and speak up about why they decided to convict dr. conrad murray in voluntary manslaughter in the death of michael jackson. back to you. >> a lot of people waiting to hear from those jurors, thank you so much. another person came forward saying herman cain made an unwanted sexual advance toward her. the alleged incident happened when cain led the national restaurant association. danielle nottingham says his campaign continues to deny the accusations. >> a woman is publicly accusing herman cain of sexual harassment. >> i want you, mr. cain, to come clean. admit what you did. admit you were inappropriate to people. >> allegations from three other women were unanimous, but sharon told her story in front of cameras monday. the chicago area woman says cain made an unwanted sexual

advance toward her in 1997 when she sought his help getting rehired at the national restaurant association. >> i'm coming forward to give a face and a voice to those women who cannot or for whatever reason do not wish to come forward. >> cain's campaign says all of the allegations are false. the candidates spent last week pushing back against the initial accusations and found himself in some testy exchanges with reporters. >> don't go there. can i ask my question? >> no. >> may i ask a good question? >> please send him the journalistic code of ethics. >> new polls have mitt romney and cain tied in first place. voters seem to be shrugging off the allegations. >> we don't have enough information as of yet. i don't think it would sway me either way. >> cain may have to address

and today, the former athletic's director as well as the vice president were arraigned today charged with perjury. >> penn state's former athletic director and vice president surrendered to authorities on charges they failed to report sex abuse. they are accused of covering up a sex scandal, involving the defensive coordinator, jerry. police arrested the 67-year-old saturday. charging him with sexually abusing eight boys for more than a decade. prosecutors in 2002, they found out about an alleged assault that took place an campus. >> their actions likely allowed a child predator to continue to victimize children for many, many years. >> the administrators are charged with lying to the grand jury. both resigned from their positions, but they did nothing wrong. >> a prominent figure on

campus. for three decades, he was a top assistant. he helped lead the lions lions to two championships. >> it's a case about children who have had their innocence stolen from them. and a culture that did nothing to stop it or prevent it from happening to others. >> police started investigating the sex abuse allegations three years ago and the incidents happened before and after he retired in 1999. prosecutors say he preyed on boys he met through his charity for children and there may be more victims out there. >> he denies the charges. he will be in court on wednesday. if convicted of these charges, derek, he could spend twenty years in prison. >> drew, the fate of joe peterno is on a lot of folk's minds. tragedy on a western maryland college campus. new details on how a promising

young woman from baltimore ended up dead and how a classmate from waldorf is charged with murder. court documents revealed shocking witness accounts of the fight that ended in a deadly stabbing. scott. >> it all happened right here. it's hard to imagine. just footsteps away from the campus right across the street. a makeshift memorial on this corner. 23-year-old virginia knee shanee liggins left with a knife in her hands. it was a big student party at a rental house. a party where shanee liggins was collecting a cover charge before a fight broke out inside. moments later, 19-year-old court kortneigh mccoy was standing

outside. liggins with a knife in her hands before, during, or after the attack. mccoy, a sophomore physics major was stabbed in the neck and head according to the doctor who could not save her. today, liggins parents left the allegheny county courthouse after a bail hearing with little to say. >> the facts will come out. >> court's public defender is taking the case. >> i feel for the parents of the deceased child. equally, these parents are in great turmoil about this incident. >> i share your outrage. you're alarm. >> administration is reeling from the second murder on this campus in just 18 months. both after confrontations at offcampus parties. jonathan said the university has reduced binge drinking here by 20% with an aggressive alcohol education program, but it hasn't been enough. >> the fact is that last year,

approximately 1,825 college students in the united states died from binge drinking. the statistics, if you add to it, violence, assault, and sexual assault, expo then nentially increase. reporting live at frostburg, scott broom, 9news now. thank you scott. a minor victory. that yeardley love murder trial. bruce leshan reports that the judge ruled george huguely's lawyers can subpoena his exgirlfriend's medical records. >> medical records are important because the defense is expected to argue that yeardley love did not die because george huguely the 5th slammed her head into her

bedroom wall after breaking down her door. the defense theory of the case, that yeardley love had some kind of underlying medical condition. >> are those medical records important to you? >> and that a blood alcohol level of .14 in addition to trace amounts of the am ad erol. >> allegedly admitted to police he had shaken her, but insisted she was alive when he left. >> tell us anything about that? >> the prosecutor and defense attorneys convinced the judge at the hearing that broadcasting from inside the courtroom would distract from the proceedings. so there will be no cameras at the trial. and huguely's family may also be excluded if they plan to testify as character witnesses. >> the judge says he will

york's bridge. that's in rockland county. the former government worker was hanging from a harness attached to a rope ladder. the man had a sign accusing rockland county officials of a coverup and retaliation. a county spokesman says that man was fired from his job because he couldn't get the job done. traffic was backed up for miles in the area. the man eventually dropped into the hudson river and was home on board a waiting boat. some dramatic new video surfaced of the confrontation between occupy d.c. demonstrators and people attending a conservative political event friday night. >> five demonstrators were hurt, and today, a few dozen people took to the streets to protest how police handled things. andrea mckaren is live with what uncovered today. andrea. >> metropolitan police chief has issued a statement saying

the aggressive nature of the occupy d. c. protest last friday night warranted a change in police tactics to ensure public safety. we know that five demonstrators were injured, but until now, we have not seen what some protesters did to the people inside the convention center and others trying to get through a downtown street. this is the side of occupy d.c. we have not seen before. >> a lot of folks were barricading the door shut. >> demonstrators barricading the exits of the convention center preventing this woman in a wheelchair and many others from going home. >> why are you preventing a woman in a wheelchair from getting out? >> democracy is not about mob rule and that's mob rule. >> other videos, the daily caller, showed two elderly women knocked to the ground. and demonstrators using their young children to block the

exits. >> yeah, why would you do that? >> innocent bystanders pleaded with the protesters. >> i have a two-year-old in the back. all i am trying to do is go home. >> i really want to go home. >> the demonstrators may have a legitimate concern. several say a car intentionally struck them friday night, injuring five. and that police on the scene refused to interview the victims or witnesses. >> revved up his engine, threw his hands up and came right at us. >> i ended up bent over on the hood, smacking my head. >> all i could see was people flying around like bowling pins. i wasn't sure how many people got hit. the one woman was dragged about 15 feet. >> police left the driver go without being charged. various demonstrations today blocked downtown d.c. traffic and culminated in a standoff with police outside metropolitan police headquarters. and there they were told that the investigation was still

open and that victims and witnesses would still be interviewed. occupy d.c. declared victory and moved on. as for the driver, we won't name him since he has not been charged, but we did find one traffic violation on his record and nothing else that we could find. back to you. >> all right andrea, thank you. an 8-year-old autistic boy who spent five days wandering in the wilderness of virginia is out of the hospital. he suffered a small hole in his esophagus and other minor injuries while he was lost out there. he wandered off from his relatives on october 23. the child turned up nearby on october 28. more than 3400 people took part in the search to help find robert. there were high honors for top dogs on capitol hill today. these dogs were honored for their work in iraq and the pentagon and world trade center. the seeing eye dog led her

last month, we started telling you about growing concerns over the newer generation of birth control pills and whether they are more likely to cause a blood clot that can break free with devastating consequences. in tonight's health alert, more evidence of the danger and the link. 35-year-old misha edwards started taking birth control

pills five years ago knowing they could increase her risk for blood clots. now more research reveals blood clots are even more likely for women taking newer birth control pills like yaz. a new study looked at nearly 330,000 women in israel and those taking the next generation of pills, which contain the synthetic hormone are at much higher risk of clots. >> risk is highest in the first few months. >> two weeks ago, the fda released a new study, women have a 75% greater of developing a clot. dr. jennifer wu says while the overall risk of clots is small, patients should discuss other risk factors with their doctors. >> family history, obesity, and other medications, which can increase your risk of blood clot. >> bayer makes the pills and

we are going to show you video justing in from sky 9. this is the fire scene in the 6100 block of wilson lane near landon school where several fire and ems folks are working on trying to put out a house fire. we're told the fire started in the attic of a three-story house on the property of the landon school. no one was home at the time. no reports of injuries.

cbs news, los angeles. >> keep in mind an estimated 33 million people are like magic johnson, living with hiv. $410 million. that's the amount a federal judge must decide whether to finalize in a class action settlement against bank of america that bank of america charged overdraft fees. the lawsuit says the bank processed debit cards and check payments in such a way that it triggered more overdrafts and fees. bank of america agreed to the settlement in may, but maintains its overdraft process was proper. 1million customers could be eligible for a settlement payment. last week u.s. airways raised its air fare on domestic flights by $10. now the airlines decided we're going to roll it back, delta made a similar move. the airlines boosted prices, but since the other low cost air carriers didn't match them, they decided they would scrap

the plan. and just in time for the holiday shopping season, barnes and noble introduced its new and improved nook today. the $249 lightweight tablet lets you read books and browse the web. barnes and noble's e reader has been a big hit since it debuted in 2009, but amazon's kindle has given the company a run for its money. the company plans to slash the price on the original nook to $99. well, it is back to square one for the selection of a site for a brand-new middle school in the bethesda area. the montgomery county school system had picked rock creek hills park in kensington as the site for that new school, but josh star is launching another search because community concerns were growing about the viability of the site and the process that led to that selection. and the old post office pavilion could be transformed into a real big new fancy luxury hotel. worldwide is proposing to turn

the pavilion into a 245 room historia. that idea comes months after the administration started asking for proposals to redevelop the post office. a decision will be made by november 17. actress, lindsay lohan has done her time, sort of. she was released from an la jail less than five hours after entering the jail. lohan turned herself in last night to serve a 30 day sentence for violating probation. problem is, there's chronic overcrowding in the prison system. so the 25-year-old star only had a short stay. this is lohan's 5th jail sentence since being arrested twice for drunk driving in 2007. up next, an accused robber gets the surprise of his life. some martial arts fighters step in to take him down. the redskins finally get into the end zone, but it's not nearly enough to end the losing streak. still ahead, we'll play monday

caught on tape, two martial arts experts getting unexpected

training. they ended up actually wrestling an armed hotel robber to the ground. this all went down last wednesday. police say that robber held up a hotel clerk at gunpoint, but then, the gunmen put his weapon in a duffel bag. the clerk ran up from behind, then the experts moved in. >> let's make the right decision from here. >> show me your hands. and so i had his hands up. the clerk reached in and pulled the gun out. >> the martial arts experts used their moves to hold that guy down. they held their positions until the cops got there. they reached in his chest and pulled the heart out, maybe that was too much. >> i don't know if that's part of it. >> it might have been. >> we are less than three weeks away, but we have been telling you that local food banks are concerned that more families could be left in need. we want to remind you that we here at 9news now are

>> on a beautiful fall day in the middle of a sprawling property on the eastern shore. >> we are almost to the end. >> scott beale says there are so many things he enjoys about working on a farm. >> yeah. >> like being outside in the crisp autumn air and working with his hands. most importantly though, according to beale, is the fact that it sure beats sitting in prison, which is exactly what beale would be doing if he weren't here. >> i bet you never thought we would be in prison picking turnips. >> beale who spent half his adult life behind bars. >> assault. fighting. >> part of a new program of the maryland prison system that uses inmates to pick crops on about a half dozen maryland farms. >> we are going to need more baskets. >> they set aside a portion of their properties just for this program. and everything that is picked is donated to the maryland food bank to help feed the homeless

and hungry. >> feeding homeless and less fortunate, definitely, it's a good thing. >> since the program started this past spring, a few dozen inmates have taken part, taking about 200,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables. >> everything from turnips to watermelon. >> it is good for everybody. >> mike is commissioner of the maryland division of corrections. he describes the program as a win/win. for the food bank. >> the food bank gets some food that is much needed. >> and for the inmates. >> it teaches them responsibility, to get out and go to work and how to work all day long. >> ask scott beale adds if working the field to feed the hungry helps make up for all the negative things in his life. >> getting in bar fights isn't fun anymore. >> if i could do something a little bit good, it won't be as bad for the things i have done. >> in federalsburg, matt, 9news now. now according to the maryland prison system, all those inmates are carefully screened before they are

eligible for this program. and they have to be within a few months of their release dates. scott beale is scheduled to be repleased in released in may. >> there's a cold front that will bring an end to this on thursday and friday. the same front is out in the plain states. this is a live shot from schneider, oklahoma, which is west of 34 and south of 40. that's southwest of oklahoma city where you can see, it looks like that's on the ground. numerous funnel clouds, under a tornado watch. it looks like that might, it's hard to see. they are tracking -- there you go. that's pretty amazing. that is -- this is probably skipping up and down and one time hitting the ground. that's on the ground right now. good news is, there's nobody around it. no reports of injuries. now it's back up. it skips back up. that's what tornadoes do. the funnel cloud will drop down and it will go back up again. they are under a watch. a tornado watch. in fact, let's look at the radar.

this is the tornado watch. this little dot is essentially where oklahoma is. west of 44 and south of 40. you can see a tremendous line of showers and storms pounding oklahoma and pushing into kansas, which is crazy because tomorrow, west of wichita, that could turn to snow. let's zoom in on this storm. this is going to be our weather maker on thursday. it's not going to have as much umph, but it will drop a cold front to us and usher in colder air on friday. we have a tropical system off the southeast coast. southwest of bermuda. we'll watch this carefully. it has tropical characteristics. right now, it's not named or not a tropical depression just yet. we are left with clear skies right now and because it's relatively dry, temperatures will fall quickly. but not as low as they have the past few nights. 61 still in rockville. 60 in arlington and looking at 57 in springfield. 53 in reston. here's the deal.

obviously, is the personnel. they were in a great offense earlier in the season. i think they really don't have a great idea of what they want to get done. kyle shanahan wants to throw the ball a lot. and seems to me there's a conflict. >> as you are looking, the same thing happened with joe gibbs. two different mind sets do not work when you get out there. and when the stress comes on, they don't know where to go. >> and john beck out there, numbers aren't getting any better. he still has zero in the win column. a lot of receivers, is he the guy they are going to stick with? >> for this week. if they lose, maybe they finally make a change. they could have this many turnovers, but might as well play rex grossman. >> this is a put up or shut up kind of week? >> mike shanahan saying they would have given him a first round grade. they are rethinking that. >> i want to get to mike shanahan, but first, i want to

be the offensive guru and the offense is in the worst part of the team from the beginning up to this point. >> all right. now that we assessed what happened yesterday, it's time for the grades. time for you to grade the game and i have a feeling these are not going to be very good. david, let's start with you. the redskins offense. what grade do you give them? >> the kind of coach he is now as a student, he would be flunking. >> d minus. mitch? >> d minus. >> what about the defense? they held it in there a little bit. they only gave up 19 points. spl all right. so passing grade. >> average. very much. >> very average. that's a good word. very average for that one. and the coaching. >> not good. b minus like the offense. >> i gave the coaches a c because i saw a lot of open receivers and beck couldn't get it to him. the receiver couldn't get over, so i couldn't blame the coaches for that. >> you got their grades, but we look ahead. everybody, at least the last couple of weeks circled that,

saying this should be a must win. miami is coming off of their first win. yeah, they have that momentum. will we see the redskins win more games this season? >> i think it's a very tough question. they have this game, the road trip to seattle, which week 16 against minnesota. they lost every game going into the minnesota home game. what do they have left? >> if we come out of this, if the redskins come out of this season, winning one more game, if that, is shanahan gone? >> i don't think he's gone. mike shanahan gets another chance. but he is going to have to make adjustments. you were hired because of your offensive followers. shanahan was relieved of his duties the last half of the year. he was in houston. so mike brings him here. he should have blocked him in houston. all you have to do. >> shouldn't have brought him. brian mitchell and david, of course they'll join me thursday with their pregame pictures. thanks for coming. back to you guys.

people become homeless for all kinds of reasons and they face many challenges. while we heard the expression it take as village to raise a child, sometimes it takes a village to raise a woman out of despair. stacey hayward has more in tonight's hero central. >> i was desperate. lonely. and just despaired. i really didn't know what to do. my daughter had mentioned and of course i was against shelters because i had never been homeless before. >> two years ago, renee hit rock bottom. she had no job, no money, and no home. n street village came to her aid. as a large service provider of women in washington, they help nearly 900 homeless and low income women each year. >> they can receive services for their basic needs. starting at the most simple

things. meals, laundry, clothing, a place to make a telephone call and address where they can receive mail. and education and employment center and a wellness center. so we are a community that focuses a lot on relationships and support. >> renee now has her own apartment. work, and eagerly mentors other homeless women. >> i call myself an alumni now. i enjoy coming back here to do meetings, to help out wherever i can because i believe in giving back. >> many of the clients who come here to n street village suffer from mental illness, incarceration, and sexual trauma. but they say they get more than training in housing. they get love. as a necessary tool to become self-sufficient. >> when i came here to n street village, i was hopeless. now i have hope.
