she's speaking out because it is the right thing to do. >> i don't despise the man. i actually did it because i wanted to help him. i wanted to give him a platform to come clean to tell the truth. and he still hasn't done it. >> reporter: but the republican presidential candidate says he has told the truth. >> there's not an ounce of truth in all of these accusations. >> cain has stated over and over again that he never sexually harassed anyone. sharon bialek insists cain made an unwanted sexual advance toward her in 1997 when she visited d.c. seeking his help getting a new job. the chicago woman says she saw the candidate at a tea party event earlier this year. she shook cain's hand and said he looked a little uncomfortable. >> i began to think gosh, he's running for president. i really hope this is the own time he's done something like this. i thought maybe it was a moment in time but obviously not. >> cain is holding a news

conference later today to address bialek's allegation. she's been stuck defending himself for more than a week against similar charges from women who came forward anonymously. all of the harassment allegations stem from the 1990s when cain led the national restaurant association. two women reached confidential settlements with the trade group. danielle nottingham, cbs news, the white house. herman cain is also pointing a finger at the media. he says if reporters want to continue talking about nonsense, that's fine. but he's not going to join them. well, today is election day for some. a lot of local races in both virginia and maryland. let's take a look at what's going on. in virginia, polls are open. they close at 7:00 p.m. tonight. at stake is control of the house of delegates and state senate in richmond. republicans are trying to win a majority in both houses. there are also county council and school board races. in maryland, the polls close at

8:00 tonight. voters in bowie, greenbelt and college park will select city leaders. and it is election day in baltimore. mayor stephanie rawlings blake is expected to win another term. we'll have all of the results for you as they come in. go to our web site, wusa9.com. d.c. council member marion barry is hoping that politics can be a family business. "the washington post" reports that barry is grooming his son, christopher, to take his council seat. the post reports that barry will run for re-election for his ward eight council seat but he only wants to serve part of the term. he will try to get his son, christopher, to fill out the term. 31-year-old christopher barry pleaded guilty to felony drug charges in july but he avoided prison time. a prince george's county business owner is facing drug charges.

according to police, they found 58 pounds of marijuana in a business in the 4800 block of rhode island avenue. they were first called to the scene after someone reported that dean roy thomas assaulted them and ran off. authorities say they tracked down the suspect at his business when a police dog smelled marijuana. the marijuana has a street value of more than a half million dollars. thomas is being held without bond. we've just learned that one of the teenagers shot on halloween night has died. the unidentified 17-year-old died from his injuries last night. investigators say that a man approached the boy and opened fire on n street in georgetown. police do have a man in custody in connection with the shooting. he will likely face additional charges now in all, six people were shot on halloween night. new york avenue is open

after a serious collision shut it down this morning. the road at kendall street was closed. surae chinn reports from northeast washington that the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. >> reporter: fire and ems work on getting out the 24-year-old man whose legs are pinned underneath a dash and steering wheel. >> like a bomb went off. >> gloria barnes was sitting in her car when she heard the crash. >> looked over there and saw him. he was in a daze like. people started running to get him out. he was stuck. >> it happened at new york avenue and kendall street northeast around 6:00 this morning when the driver of the van plowed into the back of the tractor trailer heading into the district. it forced new york avenue to be shut down. cars started stacking up quickly. >> new york avenue is bad on any given day and even though they're opening back up some of the lanes, traffic is backed up for miles through the morning rush hour. firefighters eventually got the

man out of the van. he was conscious and awake as he was rushed to the hospital. >> everybody was standing out there, was really praying, hoping that god would help him get up out of there. firemen were out there. they did an excellent job. they did an excellent job of getting him out there. >> reporter: in northeast, surae chinn, 9news now. the victim remains in serious condition. a prince george's county council corrections officer suffered some minor injuries after an early morning crash. investigators say that the officer's suv collided with another car and then slip flipped over. it happened on mitchellville road and excalibur road during the morning rush hour. authorities are investigating how this accident happened. montgomery county fire crews had their hands full battling this house fire in kensington. this was the scene at franklin street and summit avenue. the burning home was under construction. no one was living inside.

people were originally forced out from two neighboring homes but they have since been allowed back in. the frostburg state university student accused of killing a fellow classmate denies the charge. court records show that 23- year-old shanay liggins of waldorf, maryland, told investigators that someone else did it. however, four witnesses say they saw liggins with a knife in her hand. documents say that liggins followed 19-year-old courtney mccoy of baltimore from the off- campus house party on sunday morning. mccoy died from stab wounds shortly after that. liggins is being held without bond. d.c. police chief cathy lanier says the occupy d.c. movement has become "increasingly confrontational and violent" over the past month. that's according to "the washington post." this is footage from a confrontation between occupy d.c. members, a group trying to

lead a conservative banquet. one whams would seen using her children to block the doors. two elderly women were knocked to the ground. one protestor told us it is not a violent group. >> there is no intention for any kind of aggressive behavior. that's not -- we're a nonviolent movement. five protestors blocking the road near the banquet were struck. they were not seriously injured. and the drivers were not cited. chief lanier has not said how the police will adjust to handle the group. former penn state assistant football coach jerry sandusky is expected in court tomorrow on child sexual abuse charges. sandusky is accused of sexually assaulting eight underage boys while he worked at the school. two former top university officials also surrendered to authorities yesterday. they are accused of covering up

the sports world is mourning the loss of one of boxing's all-time greats, joe frazier. he died last night after a brief battle with liver cancer. frazier's career will forever be linked with muhammad ali because the two fought three epic battles during their careers. we have more on the man known as smokin' joe. >> smokin' joe frazier's vicious left hook earned him a place in boxing history. born in south carolina in 1944, he picked up the sport at an early age, a top amateur, he won olympic gold in tokyo in

1964 and turned pro the following year. in 1971, frazier became the first man to beat muhammad ali knocking the boxing great to the canvas in the fight of the century in new york's madison square garden. frazier fought ali twice more, losing both battles, including the famous thrilla in manila. ali called that fight the closest he ever came to death. in all, the two men traded punches for a total 41 rounds during their careers. >> everybody love it. love what went on in the three fights we had. >> reporter: outside the ring, ali taunted frazier mercilessly but following his death, ali released a statement saying the world has lost a great champion, i will always remember joe with respect and admiration. in later years, frazier had money troubles and ran a gym in his adopted hometown of

philadelphia. last september, the former heavyweight champion returned to his home state of south carolina where he was honored with a lifetime achievement and service award. frazier was diagnosed with liver cancer only weeks ago. he died in philadelphia at the age of 67. susan mcginnis, cbs news. ñññ

fly by. it will zip past us about 200,000 miles away tonight, just before 6:30. now, we have not had an encounter this close since 1976. the asteroid is known as 2005yu55. and research scientists lance brenner explains exactly what will happen. >> it is actually moving straight at us from one direction and then whizzing by and straightaway from us in the other direction. its motion across the sky will be close to 180 degrees over the course of two days. there is no need to plan a watch party. it will be too dim to see the asteroid with the naked eye and it is moving too fast for the hubble telescope to capture an image. all right, we're less than three weeks away from thanksgiving. local food banks are worried more families than ever will be left in need and so we want to remind you that we here at

night, it got chilly. 30 in frederick. 32 manassas. 41 in town. lots of 30s in the suburbs. even down in southern maryland, la plata, pax river and eastern shore got down in the 30s. what a nice warm-up from there. we're at 67 in baltimore and into gaithersburg. 67 also in la plata. out to the west, culpepper, 70 degrees with 61 for martinsburg. it don't get much better than this for the month of november. sunny, i know it is not proper english. sunny, 62. dew point, 44. winds south at 6 miles per hour. the cold air is here in the country but on the west side of the country in the rockies, out toward casper, wyoming, they're 32. look at the difference from chicago down to nashville. pretty strong front lies across this area. this is lining up with the jet stream. in fact, tornado watch in effect now for parts of arkansas and down toward texas. this line of storms moving in here, the upper level support

is there. they're dealing with severe weather on the warm side. we've got cold on the other side of the equation with temperatures in the 30s. for us, high pressure sits on top of us. we're the beneficiaries of just some great weather for another couple of days. before this front comes on thursday. high pressure is with us now. we watch this showers, well out to our west for the rest of today. could impact air travel through chicago today. even into wednesday morning. look, the rain into chicago. we'll have another quiet day. maybe a few clouds late. moisture moves in from the east. wednesday night into thursday. with this front nearby thursday, that's going to touch off a few showers. it will come through. you can see the chilly. that's here for friday. friday, as nice as it is now, friday, you're going to need jackets and sweaters. i think just for friday, we'll get a little bit milder back on the weekend. today and tomorrow, upper 60s, mid-60s. 30s and 40s tonight. by thursday, that's when we're looking at some showers here and there. temps in the upper 50s. friday, that's going to be a

chef with me. his name is thomas hall. >> thank you for having me. >> today, you're going to prepare duck. >> we're doing a pan-seared duck breast with a fricassee salad. a lot of people are intimidated by duck. they take a step back but it really isn't that hard. it is actually pretty easy. we're going to start out with a duck breast. only thing you have to do that's special is you want to score the breast a little bit because it has so much fat. that's what people don't like about duck. >> it can be greasy. >> nobody likes that fat on there. you just kind of crosshatch it a little bit. >> ok. >> cut the fat but you don't want to cut into the breast because that is how you end up overcooking the breast. so then just like that, nice little crosshatch. go straight across. not a big deal. actually, i like to start in a cold pand move it on to the heat. that will help it render out really nice and slow. if you get it hot, it will cook it real fast. you will still have all of the

fat. it is not nice to eat. it is not fun. people don't like that. >> now, you're cook it on the top of the stove? you're not putting it in the oven. >> no. we have this one in the oven to warm it up. you can finish it from start to finish if you cook it slow and low. >> gave us the recipe. it is on my web site, jchayward.com. you can prepare this for the holidays. it looks simple. now what are we doing? >> while you're cook the breast, sometimes it will take up to 15 to 20 minutes to get all of the fat out. it depends on how much fat you want to eat. we have a lettuce, a little bit of belgian endive cut. some radicchio to add color and this hazelnut vinaigrette. >> hazelnut vinaigrette. >> some hazelnut, vinegar, dijon mustard, a little salt and pepper all mixed up. j.c., if you can mitch that up for me.
