clouds pull in late this afternoon. this morning though, clear skies overhead. with the low level moisture, the longer nights, that's allowed the fog to form. south and east until 10:00 a.m., dense fog advisory in queen anne's county again, a 90-minute delay going to schools like yesterday due to the fog situation. charles, calvert, st. mary's county down toward richmond all under dense fog advisories this morning. this visibilities, they're not bad in town. we dropped to a quarter mile in the northern neck. southern maryland down through southern calvert and st. mary's counties and also the lower eastern shore. visibilities way down. even in annapolis, we dropped to two miles. temperatures are running in the 30s and 40s. grab the jacket this morning. a great afternoon ahead. monika? >> we'll take a live look from sky 9 right now with serious accident in the germantown area. this happened right around 5:20 this morning, northbound on route 27 at brink road. it looks like authorities are making some progress and you're able to get through the intersection with some police

direction. but be aware of this as crews do their work there. northbound route 27 at brink road. let me show you where it is on a map. if you're planning to head through germantown, this is south of clarksburg, another option for you to get over to the damascus area, go ahead and use route 124 to get around it. route 27 north at brink road. let's take a live look at the american legion bridge. no problems to report here. between 270 and tysons corner, everything is doing well on the beltway. we'll go over to a live look right now. if you're head from southern maryland, route four, route five, route 301, everything is fine. live at the wilson bridge through oxon hill across the bridge span and into alexandria, got a bill of volume. no big deals as you head toward 95 and 395. i'll update you on the situation over in germantown at 6:12. andrea, back to you. i'll take it, monika. >> all eyes are on virginia's 17th district this morning. just 86 votes separate the two

state senate candidates and it will decide which party controls the virginia state senate. republican challenger bryce reeves is now in the lead but that is for now. again, the margin over democratic incumbent edward houck, just 86 votes! governor bob mcdonnell declared victory on behalf reeves but this is likely headed to a recount. it covers parts of fredericksburg along with culpepper, spotsylvania, louisa, orange and madison counties. republicans only need to equal the democrats in the number of senate seats as well in virginia because the lieutenant-governor bill brohling is a tiebreaker. he's a republican. quick check of some of the other headlines from tuesday's election. in rockville, voters re-elected mayor phyllis maruccio with 53% of the vote. mississippi voters rejected the personhood amendment which would have outlawed abortion and birth control by writing into the state constitution that life begins at conception. in ohio, labor unions are celebrating after voters rejected a law that would curb

collective bargaining rights for state workers. more local results will run all morning long at the bottom of your screen. andrea? >> now to the 2012 campaign. the republican presidential candidates meet for a debate in michigan tonight. herman cain is trying to move past the sexual harassment allegations dogging him. in a press conference yesterday, he didn't mince words. >> with respect to the most recent accusations, i have never acted inappropriately with anyone, period. >> cain says he's in it to win it. can he move past this? we're joined this morning by perry bacon, a political reporter for "the washington post." good to have you here with us. >> good morning. >> cain says he expects more women, more allegations to be made. can he get past it if more people come forward? >> i think two women are talking about having a press conference together. if that happens, that would be

a real problem for him. so, i think as the story continues to go on, it hurts him because voters are no longer hearing his ideas about tax policy or anything else. >> are voters concerned, a rasmussen poll from last week had cain in the lead substantially for the first time at 26% followed by romney at 23%. gingrich at 1% and the latest "usa today" poll has cain and romney neck and neck. 21%. why isn't this make significant difference? >> the short answer is we don't know. last week, it was anonymous charges. so, monday, we had a woman in great detail talk about what happened and then tuesday, another person who lived in washington came forward as well. i think now, this is going to change a lot. you're seeing now mitt romney, the republican candidates are attacking cain about this in more detail. i think that's going to change the discussion. >> romney still in the tie if not in the lead. but if cain is forced to drop

out or his numbers start to drop, who will benefit the most? who comes up to take his place? >> probably not romney. maybe someone like newt gingrich or perry. a lot of people who like herman cain are in the tea party, they're more conservative republicans. people who generally do not view romney at too moderate. they're looking for someone who is more of an insurgent. maybe michele bachmann, rick santorum or maybe newt gingrich. they might benefit from cain if he doesn't do well. >> do you think we'll get to the issues in michigan's debate? >> i do think we will because the debate is asking questions about the economy. i think they'll focus on the economy and not spend an hour about sexual harassment charges. >> perry bacon, thanks for being here with us. >> thanks for having me. emergency responders trying to save a frostburg state university student feared for their lives at an offcampus party sunday. frostburg police chief royce dowdy said there were verbal death threats made to the fire

department and the ambulance people at the scene. people were upset that they didn't get there quickly enough. 19-year-old courtney mccoy of baltimore died from her injuries at an off-campus party. dowdy said most of the calls his department gets are linked to college students. however, campus police paint a more subdued picture. >> frostburg state university police and the entire administration and all of the personnel here are active partners in dealing with student conduct whether it occurs on or off-campus. >> 23-year-old shanay liggins is charged with the killing. she's being held without bond now. u.s. senator jim webb of virginia is asking the president to reconsider plans for offshore oil and gas exploration. the white house left the commonwealth off its list where exploration was allowed over the next five years. webb contends exploration would boost domestic energy production and the state's economy.

jessica doyle is here with another "your money" report. >> and another recall from toyota. wow! >> that's right. this is a big recall that could affect your ability to actually steer the car. very serious problem. toyota is recalling about 550,000 vehicles worldwide. mostly in the united states. the possible problems relate to something called a crankshaft pulley that's attached to the engine. it can affect how you steer the vehicle. it affects 2004 and 2005 toyota camrys, highlanders, siennas and solaras also the 2004 avalon and the 2006 highlander hv as well as the 2004 and 2005 lexus es 330 and rs 330 as well as the 2006rs400s. >> former president bill clinton has a new book coming out called back to work. like the title suggests, he offers ideas for fixing the job market and the overall economy. among his proposals, more investments in green jobs and

infrastructure. that must be increased. he also suggested homeowners with underwater mortgages should have their loan principal reduce. he would want to rework the corporate tax code to lower tax rates but not the amount of revenue being collected. on the southbound side. i'll have more on this coming up in my next report. back to you, andrea. >> thank you, monika. the occupy movement is hitting the road. protestors from new york are making their way here to washington. that's one of the stories making news now at 6:12. a small group of activists will leave manhattan today at noon and walk to the district. they hope to arrive by november 23rd, the deadline for a congressional subcommittee to decide how to make serious budget cuts. a jury has cleared maryland state senator ulysses curry on corruption charges. the 74-year-old prince george's county democrat was accused of peddling influence for his supermarket chain. executives from that chain were also cleared. and the head of the house transportation committee is backing off a plan to privatize amtrak between d.c. and boston. florida republican john mica wanted to sell the northeast corridor to the highest bidder. now, he's back-pedaling. the house will hold a hearing next month.

raising awareness, raising money for the cause of our wounded soldiers and their families but this is the first year we started the unemployment activity. >> among the list, companies like microsoft, washington gas and a long list of others. this is a good thing. veterans are trying to find employment in a difficult economy as they come home. >> that's a great point. especially, we tie it around veterans weekend. what we found is the population between 18 to 24-year-olds for our veterans has a 22% unemployment rate. we thought it was very important for us to try to find employment for some of the young veterans coming back. i will tell you the reception from the corporations, from the government agencies and from a lot of the nonprofits has been absolutely outstanding. >> have they given you an idea and i know this is a broad question, idea of what types of jobs some of the organizations are available? >> i think there is a number of jobs, everything from administrative to i. t. to construction. it goes across the spectrum of the job opportunities. >> companies like washington gas, dow chemical, security finance. an excellent event. remind people when it starts,

from sky 9 in germantown, southbound at route 27 and brink road. this is a two mile back-up getting to the accident in germantown which is actually on the northbound side of route 27 at brink. northbound lanes are blocked. southbound only one lane is getting by. if you're sitting at home and watching this right now, you want to choose an alternate route. let's go to the maps. because of the delay on the southbound side, pretty much begins at hawks road. maybe you want to use the stringtown hawks road combination to get around this. another way is to use route 124 and avoid that altogether. again, northbound 27 at brink road is blocked. just took a look at the delays. let's take a look at 270 at shady grove road. no problems, 270 has been incident-free from frederick, germantown and down to the point where the lanes divide. we'll go back out to the district. this is constitution avenue at 23rd street. you're ok coming off the roosevelt bridge down the mall

him currently and gary schulz and then the moral allegations basically that were made against joe paterno and they say they should have done more. the associated press is reporting jerry sandusky was on penn state's campus as recently as a week ago. they say he was given an office and a parking pass and other amenities as part of his retirement package he received in 1999. in politics, republicans in virginia need one more seat to win control of the state senate. right now, they lead the race which would give them that seat by just 86 votes. republican bryce reeves leads incumbent democrat edward houck. governor bob mcdonnell declared victory for his party but this will probably head to a recount. a win would give the senate an even 20/20 split with lieutenant-governor bill bolling holding the tie breaking vote for the g.o.p. republicans already have in the majority in the house of

delegates. other election headlines from tuesday, democrat stephanie rawlings blake won re- election as mayor of baltimore. she was appointed to the job last year. people in maine will be able to register to vote as soon as election day. voters repealed a law requiring registration at least two days in advance. kentucky voters re-elected steve berber, the second democrat to win a governor this year. parties meet at a debate in michigan tonight. you can be sure the sexual harassment allegations against herman cain will be one of the topics of discussion. surae chinn is live in northwest washington with more on cain's attempt to put this story to rest. surae, good morning. >> good morning, michael. herman cain said he would be willing to take a lie detector test. he said he rejects any and all of the accusations. he does so as another accuser reveals her identity to cbs news yesterday.

she is 55-year-old karen kraushaar of germantown, maryland. she is one of the first to accuse cain of sexual harassment in 1999 while both worked at the national restaurant association. it ended in a financial settlement although cain said it was a financial agreement to end her employment at the lobbying group and says the accusations were baseless. and by the way, she filed another complaint three years later at another job and that one involved a sexually charged e-mail and later, she dropped the charges saying they weren't sexual harassment. she did release this statement to cbs. the whole situation is so volatile right now, she says. i just don't want to say anymore but not keeping quiet is the fourth woman, sharon bialek who went public monday about an alleged groping incident that happened in a car outside of this building. >> on my leg, under my skirt and reached for my genitals. he also grabbed my head and

with employers who are looking for employees. when you look at linkedin, you set it up as a resume. it can talk about your job history, what you've done in the past, your education. it is a fantastic tool and i encourage all applicants to use it. >> let's take a look at the actual job market itself. you're seeing some hiring. your staffing company. where are folks hiring now a days? >> information technology is number one. that's a demand that there is not enough supply. life sciences and healthcare are second. engineering is a close third. >> the break, we were talking a little bit about starting salaries for information technology. lay that on us. >> information technology basically, $70,000, $80,000 a year coming out of the gate from college. if i had a son going to college, i would encourage him to go into information technology or life sciences arena. >> the salaries tend to top out around what range? >> anywhere from the mid $150s. >> wow. >> there are actual jobs out
