of pennsylvania tom corbett just asked students to remain many calm. the governor seems like he is concerned about a tense situation tonight. what are your thoughts. >> yes, it is important the student body remain calm. we haven't had a lot of guidance knowing what direction to go and students are emotional about everything from the victims and their families feeling for them to joe paterno and the pride we have in him. at this point it just kind of boiled over and it is important we do remain calm. >> a lot of people outside happy valley look at those reactions and wonder are fans and students taking the sides of an alleged abuser? is that what's going on mere? i here. >> i think the riots last night

98% of them result in relief. that's encouraging. but the bad news, these abductions are on the rise. wilson ramos, a promising star for the washington nationals was allegedly abducted outside his family home in venezuela where he was gearing up to play in the winter leagues. >> first thought i had was sean taylor type stuff. you just see the news and then suddenly it is bad news after that. >> reporter: in 2009 alone place report 618 kidnappings in venezuela. this man knows. he lived in the country for two years. >> people are fighting for their lives. in those type of situations you're not sure what their motivees. i was saying a prayer for him. >> reporter: u.s.a. today's baseballle says these abductions for ransom are common in venezuela but in this case the stakes are higher because the players themselves

aren't usually abducted. >> ramos made $415,000 last year. major league perspective that's not a lot. but for a kidnapper this is a guy that's got a lot of money. >> reporter: here is the very latest. police have the get away car found this morning about an hour away from the home. they also have sketches of two out of the four armed abductors. since they are working with investigators in venezuela the nationals have been asked to not comment. matt? >> delia, thank you very much. new at 6 p.m. tonight. an arrest in the case of those girl scouts robbed while they were out selling cookies right outside a local wal-mart. we first told but this one last week. last night police caught up with the man they believe grabbed the scouts cash box and ran off. he was arrested in the same

bowy shopping center where it first happened. in the last hour a judge in norfolk said he would issue a ruling about whether justin wolf should get out of jail soon. the judge ruled he was wrongfully convicted for a murder in manassas. his attorneys say that he ought to be released while the ruling is appealed. air forces top general criticized over the way some of the remains of our war heros from afghanistan and iraq. >> the air force says it is not happening anymore. they are now burying ashes at sea. one widow tells me she was appalled and disgusted after she heard of pieces of her husband discovered after she buried him.

>> reporter: east of fredericksburg, perhaps the last place you would expect to find the sacred remains of our war deed. but the pentagon now admits for five years ending in '08 this is where it dumped the insinurated body parts it found after a burial ceremony. >> how does that fit into the same sentence? >> reporter: an official at the dover air force mortuary told parts of her husband were insinurated and dumped. >> they said that no one wanted my husband so he was cremated with the rest of the medical leaves from the hospital and thrown in the trash. >> how could they think nobody wanted him? >> i have no idea. >> reporter: three whistle blowers detail a whole series of problems at the dover mortuary. >> it is like a train wreck every single day working there. >> reporter: at first they were the ones the air force disciplined. >> i was terminated. fired. >> reporter: a federal office that protects whistle blowers

stepped in and two ended up transfer but the head of the joint chief of staff says he is unsure dumping remains is wrong. >> it is common outside of the military. the disposition of human remains that are separateed from the principal portion. >> he wore the same uniform that my husband once wore. i don't know why he would think it is okay. >> officials told her that this wasn't going on. she said she was stone walled by the dover mortuary for over a year and has now heard the pentagon's promise toys bury any future remains at sea. but she says after what she has been through she has no faith in any promise from the military. >> wow, how painful. you hope that with these whistle blowers those remains will continue to be buried at sea. >> hopefully they will get the situation cleared up at dover.

a commuter alert that could catch you offguard. metro closing four stations on the green line at 10 p.m. until monday morning. because of a long holiday weekend for veterans day. buses will replace trains. track work will be done. the waterfront, navy yard and accostia and congress heights stations will be closed over the long weekend. a resolution to a hotly contested raid that held control of virginia state senate in the balance. democrat ed howke. an even flip between the parties in the state senate and that means that the republican lieutenant- governor bowling would be the tie breaking vote. new figures showing half of working women are giving up their pay to stay home with

their newborn children saying it is because employers are getting more selective about giving paid maternity leave. the figures reveal moms with less education are nearly four times more likely to be denied paid maternity benefits. this is the widest gap we have seen in 50 years. still ahead tonight. thousands came to our area to protest this this past weekend. now there is a big decision about plans to build a new oil pipeline right the middle of the u.s.

word that the federal government will delay plans for a controversial oil pipeline. thousands of people demonstrated against the project this past weekend. the pipeline would carry oil from canada to refineries on the texas coast. the state department now wants the developer to reroute the pipeline around environmentally sensitive parts of nebraska. only on 9 tonight. a family wants justice after their pet dog was killed without their permission.

i'm peggy fox in prince william county where a couple is grieving tonight at their dog was euthanized without their permission. >> we would have liked to have been there. >> reporter: the last time allen holmes saw his dog was when he took this picture. 15 minutes later she was gone. the next day they found her cremated remains at the fairfax county animal shelter. the dog has euthanized just a couple of hours after she had been missing. a woman thought she was a stray and brought her in. >> to give us no opportunity to claim this dog was horrifyingly wrong. i'm devastated by this. >> reporter: the vet found the dog had a number of health problems though still responsive and alert. >> she was a baby. she was just a little helpless dog. >> reporter: peggy fox, 9news now. now to a story you saw first on 9 back in 2004. that's when we first showed you

football players are proud of their alma maters. many still sporting their school memorabilia. with everything going with the sexual abuse scandal surrounding penn state some former players have been voicing their sadness and shock. a rooky running back is the only penn state guy currently on the redskins roster. he hasn't spoken to the media but he did take to twitter today to share his feelings. he said he was praying for them and their families. i think we are all a bit shocked about this whole thing because we like everyone else never thought something like this could happen.
