of that child abuse sex scandal. our good friend john from chantilly says for all the wrong reasons the trustees did the right thing. this per version was reported to state police and they investigated and no charges were brought. the perpetrator retired in '99 but there is much more to this that meets the eyes and i have to trust the trustees and because of the media spotlight finally they acted for the good of penn state and hopefully the interests of those young boys will now get proper attention. believe it or not joe paterno has some defenders out there and laurie is one of them. we are all told in our jobs go to our superior and that's what joe paterno did. could he have done more? maybe. but sometimes there are repercussions for not following your chain of command. in the military they will write you up for that. except joe paterno wasn't in the military and in fact at penn state he probably had more real power than anyone. if joe paterno had taken charge of this thing from the start, called the police, followed up,
7:26 pm
nine years worth of possible victims could have been spared. heck, if anybody had called the police, that's why john sadly is right about this joe paterno and the rest of them all had to go. finally, there was this on the new federal management plan to prevent a repeat of the carmageddon snow mess we went through last january. rob from alexandria says new rules on when the workers can go home or stay put at their offices really won't have much. there is not a job out there, be it federal or not that i would let interfere with my own personal safety. if bad weather is expected then opm shouldn't wait until the last minute to make a decision. that's the problem with this whole issue. nobody wants to make a decision because they are afraid of reprisal. actually, john, the problem is that everybody is on the road at the same time and capacity is down because the weather is so bad. opm is trying to manage that with staggered lead times and so forth. but i'm not sure there is a magic bullet. every situation is so very unique. just like your e-mail. the address mailbag@wusa9.com. that is our report.
