tom gorbit says he lost faith in joe paterno because what has developed in the case. he spoke in a second day of private meetings. he promoted the decision to force out paterno last night. now he has been replaced by his defensive coordinator tom bradley. >> please, please behave and demonstrate your pride in penn state. your actions speak much louder than your words. and will carry with you for a long period of time. >> last night thousands of protestors confronted police, pulled down light poles and overturned a news van. again, they are asking for calm there at the college campus tonight. and tonight state police are cruising state college in force. the town is calm and our reporter scott broom tells us

student leaders are organizing. >> reporter: state college tonight heeding the governor's call for calm. state police cruising the streets just to be sure. >> i appreciate the governor's comments and i really kind of echo his sediments? >> reporter: now they ask the stadium to be colored in blue. >> change the whiteout which is something penn state students love more than anything to a blue out to raise awareness to sexual abuse. >> reporter: it's the latest of a day of reactions to denouns rioting in the wake of the firing of coach joe paterno. >> go out and be better to everybody. >> we do want to support one another and we want to consider the victims. >> reporter: at a pregame student encampment , fans tried to settle with the school's motto often quoted by the coach.

didn't do enough to stop sandusky. it hasn't been about money yet. >> they let him to continue to abuse and rape these children for years. i believe both the university and mr. paterno face tremendous liability in this situation. >> civil lawyers can make a simple case on behalf of the abused children against the university and its employees. >> they all had a duty to protect those children. and i believe that they will all be named as defendants in lawsuits and that they will face civil liabilities. >> reporter: expect to see that in the court for years. but criminal liability for paterno, law enforcement is investigating but says a lawyer. >> he did not witness any of these crimes. he went to his supervisor and reported what he had heard. and that's what he should have done. moral wrongdoing and ethical wrongdoing are different questions. but i don't believe that mr. paterno is at risk of any criminal prosecution. >> reporter: however, tonight there is this

. nbc has contacted a defense lawyer here about the case. though according to cbs news, paterno's son tweeted no lawyer has been retained. not sure where that report originate the. this court has been about the court of public opinion. in the weeks ahead it is likely simply to be about court. anita. >> gary nurenberg, thank you. defense secretary leon paneta says he'll consider harsher punishment for three responsible for the mishandling of soldier's remains. they acknowledge that on two occasions in 2009 the dover mortuary lost body parts of fallen soldiers. between '03 and '08 they cremated some body parts and dumped them in a virginia landfill without the permission of the soldier's families. scott smith's remains were dumped back in 2006 and today

his widow expressed her outrage. >> no service member or no human being at all should be placed into a landfill, no matter whether it's a fingernail, a foot or an entire body. >> the commanding officer of the dover mortuary at the time these incidents happened is now working at the pentagon. he was given a letter of reprimand. two of his top civilian deputies took pay cuts. he says he is now looking at the possibility of opposing additional penalties. mauled while out on a walk. the owner of two small dogs say his pups were attacked by two other dogs in the same neighborhood. it happened earlier today in southeast. our ken molestina is live there right now. ken. >> reporter: derek, what a sad story. one of the dogs is dead tonight. the other one is in an animal hospital with serious injuries. it all happened at about 5:30 earlier today and the dog's owner speaking out.

>> they took the little dog in his mouth killing him. my wife dropped the leeches and ran. >> reporter: his wife called him in a panic earlier today to tell him what had happened. he says she was walking the dogs when two larger cane courses came out and mauled their dogs. prince a terrier mix is being treated at the animal hospital for wounds. kong a toy poodle didn't survive the attack. now the owner is left grieving for one dog and hoping the other pulls through. >> he has to have anesthesia and he is going to have what the doctor described as drainage tubes placed to prevent infection from the wounds. the teeth went through the flesh in his hind legs. >> reporter: mr. woodland says the dogs that attacked him came from his neighbor's house somewhere in this neighborhood here. now, we checked in with dc

police. they say when they responded they didn't cite anyone here in this neighborhood. we also called animal control services and they say they were never called and never removed any dog out in this area. we're live in southeast dc, ken molestina, 9news now. >> all right. scary dogs. tonight venezuela vows to rescue washington nationals william ramos and catch his abductors. the 24-year-old catcher was playing in the winter league. he was visiting with family in santa anez last night when four armed men abducted him. our bruce leshan spoke tonight to a newspaper columnist about this. he says even though kidnappings are common in that country, most do end peacefully. >> the fact that so many of these are about money and that maybe somebody will give these people enough money to release him. >> basically that would be like

our best hope. because the statistics shows 98% of the kidnaps here end up in a good way. the hostage being released and everything is okay at the end of the day. >> let's hope so. this is the first known kidnapping of a major league baseball player. ramos is alive and they have sketches of two of the four suspected kidnappers. they've also found the get away car but no other leads at this point. well, new at 11:00, in prince george's county, prosecutors say former county council woman lesli johnson deserves one year in prison. she pled guilty for corrupting evidence. documents filed with the court this week, prosecutors detail what they say is evidence of even further corruption. for example, there is a tapped phone call in which miss johnson says she's certainly a developer

>> reporter: a professional tracer was reach ing out to laurie offering to help her get more than $1,500 from the u.s. department of housing and urban development. but this tracer's help has a catch. fees. >> for a nominal fee of 29%. nominal fee of 29%. >> reporter: do you think 29% is nominal? >> no. that's huge. >> reporter: the fha mortgage insurance refus are real. the tracer services are not illegal. still the u.s. department of housing and urban development is warning consumers to be careful. the government website carries a consumer alert about tracers. hud tells 9news now it does not encourage or discourage the efforts of third party tracers, as long as they do not misrepresent themselves. >> it is real money. >> reporter: the money comes from a refund of insurance on fha mortgages that consumers either pay off or refinance. >> the money comes from a refund

do every week, brian mitchell, david elston. mike shanahan talked earlier in the season about a playoff push. this is a good team. this is a great team. now he won't say the word rebuilding but he's talking about rebuilding. how does the redskins get here. injuries aside, how did they get here? >> they don't have great depth to begin with which a lot of teams don't have. and also their offense is never good, even when everybody was healthy, the biggest problem is they don't have a quarterback. >> when you get veterans like london fletcher, d'angelo hall, when there is no playoffs to play for, what are these guys going out on the field playing for. >> those guys are going to play for their spot. they want to go out there and show the young guys they can finish strong. fletcher is a guy that everyone needs to look like. this guy plays the same way no matter what. he doesn't go in when he's having a good game. he is always the same guy. and i think guys can learn from
