>> moving on to our top story to the latest on the sex scandal at penn state university. the new interim president promised to get to the truth of the horrific child sex abuse case involving the former assistant football coach. jerry sandusky allegedly raped eight young boys whom he met through a charity he founded. andrea mccarren has the latest developments. >> reporter: the board of trustees told an overflow crowd it would work to rebuild trust and restore confidence in the university. the board has launched its own investigation into what sex crimes former football coach jerry sandusky may have committed andia no one reported them to police. >> my heartaches for the victims and their families. and my mind searches for answers like millions of areas across the nation. >> reporter: late today penn state's interim president said he had appointed an ethics officer and would reorn

reorient -- reorient the university. >> we urge everybody to not be afraid. >> reporter: the grand jury indictment details the alleged molestation of eight young boys he met through the second mile charity he founded. it allegeds that jerry sandusky preyed on vulnerable boys from broken homes over a period spanning 15 years. >> penn state's interim president said he was heartened so many student groups on campus have planned a blueout tomorrow. that will be raising awareness of child sex abuse. our colleague scott broom is live at state college where he has been looking at security on campus. >> reporter: security is a big issue when you have this many people coming into town and also reports this afternoon that somebody threw bricks or

cinder blocks through the windows of jerry sandusky. death threats against the coach that reported the sex abuse to joe paterno back in '02. a lot going on security wise. another sign of the security presence here came last night on the streets of state college. officers in riot gear and on hor back here to keep the peace in this highly charged atmosphere. lots of police around. no incidents to report last night into today. here is captain john gardener of the state college police department. >> emotions run the gamut from anger to disbelief. you mix that in with 100,000 people coming in and 45,000 students and mix it in with alcohol and you have a problem sometimes trying to deal with all those issues. >> reporter: however, police satisfy think have got the reinforcements to handle it.

coach tom osborne of nebraska asking his fans coming here to penn state to keep displays toned down and respectful. there were also some nebraska fans that came to the home of joe paterno this afternoon. we were there to witness that. the fans said to express sympathy to both the coach and the fans. and andrea just mentioned the mood is changing here. the students are planning that so-called blue out. blue the color of awareness for child abuse prevention. they are hoping that the stadium is a sea of blue tomorrow as a sign of respect to the victims and also to the penn state team. reporting live in state college at beaver stadium scott broom, 9news now. >> all right, scott. thanks. police in venezuela say they are confident they will quickly solve the kidnapping of washington nationals catcher wilson ramos. now, meanwhile concerned fans in town are gathering at nationals park in southeast. our delia gonclaves is there too. and delia, what's going on? >> reporter: well, fans just gathered here a short time ago. they tell me -- they are hoping
