spoke in an exclusive interview with cbs news. matt jablow joins us now to tell us what he had to say. >> reporter: mike mcqueary could be spotted on the sidelines with his shock of red hair. but for the past few weeks finding himself in the biggest scandal of college sports, he has not been seen or heard from until today. >> the process has to play out. >> reporter: mike mcqueary described his feelings about the sex scandal that has shaken penn state, rattled millions of americans and led to mcqueary being placed on administrative leave. just describe your emotions right now. >> all over the place. just kind of shaken. >> reporter: crazy? >> crazy. >> reporter: u said, what -- >> like a snow globe. >> reporter: like a snow globe. >> yes, sir. >> reporter: as many people know, mcqueary walked in on

former penn state assistant coach jerry sandusky when he was allegedly raping a young boy in a locker room shower. initial reports said mcqueary left the locker room without coming to the boy's aid and then waited a day before reporting the incident to the head coach joe paterno. mcqueary is now telling friends that he did break up the sexual act in the shower and then reported the incident to police as well as to paterno. >> i just don't have anything else to say. >> reporter: mcqueary's first public commente a day after sandusky himself spoke for the first time telling bob kostas that he was not a pedophile but admitting that he did shower with young boys. >> i have done some of those things. >> it's an issue that never goes away. >> reporter: jc derek says he was a victim of sexual abuse when he was a child. today he said listening to the sandusky interview and all of the coverage of the case has been a very difficult experience. >> there was a couple of times i

thought i might throw up. it was that sickening. it's like reliving the past. >> reporter: derek said if the penn state scandal serves to shine a bright light on the problem of child predators in this country, then perhaps something good will have come of something truly terrible. derek and anita. >> thank you, matt. if you are among the 23 million people expected to fly over the thanksgiving holiday, you just may be subjecting yourself to a security system that doesn't work well. >> ten years after the founding, the transportation security administration has "lost its transportation security focus" and mushroomed into a human resources bureaucracy according to a chairman who plans to issue a new report coming out tomorrow morning. it will show instances of dangerous materials, even weapons. screeners failed to detect and will serve as a basis for new calls to reform the tsa and change the whole way it does business. gary nurenberg has a preview what is sure to make headlines in a few hours. >> reporter:

anita, congress passed the legin that gave birth to the tsa ten years ago tomorrow and now looking at its successes and at its failures, the legislators who created the agency, some of them are saying it's time for big changes. after all of the take off your shoes and jackets. >> we're a lot safer than we were ten years ago, but we have enormous strides that still have to be overcome. >> reporter: congressman john micah named the tsa and has watched it closely for weapons and potential explosives that screeners miss. >> there are documented instances of thousands of breeches of things getting through. i think some 25,000. >> reporter: and wednesday he plans to call for tsa reform. largely because repeated investigations. >> we have to analyze the effectiveness of the system and failing. >> i think the tsa needs to grow up and listen to what the end user wants. >> reporter: retired american

airlines captain mark wise is with the spectrum group specializing in aviation matters. >> the message is absolutely wrong. the way people view them is with dread? weaknesses? >> they still need to do a lot of work in cargo security. they need to do work in behavioral training and using airline personal and airport personal as partners. you need to use canines more effectively in cargo screening and passenger screening. >> reporter: and some recommend a return to private industry doing the work under government supervision. >> i think you're much more apt to get a better individual, customer friendly individual and still the same level of safety and security you currently have and better. >> reporter: congressman micah plans to relee his report here in a little more than 12 hours. anita and derek. >> well, gary, speaking of airlines, if you planned to fly this holiday, you will surely have cabin filled with loads and loads of carry on bags, not to mention all of the frustrated

passengers. in the effort to avoid those dreaded baggage fees, people are packing about 90 million more carry ones now than they were just two years ago. but get this, seven out of ten passengers surveyed say it's the very same carry on bags that bug them the most about flying because they slow down the screening line so much. on top of all of that, the bags are costing taxpayers more and more and raising security problems. >> if we're trying to get everybody through, we need to spend more time to resolve the risks. and if they are not as packed, it's easier to do that. >> the transportation administration says screening all of the carry ones cost an extra $260 million a year. u.s. travel association lobbying to bring back the days of at least one free checked bag. but last year the bag fees brought the airline industry about $3.4 billion. and without that, the airlines said they would be in the red.

a local physics teacher has made quite a discovery. he allegedly mixed a common old ordinary drink known as alcohol with work. and what does that combination get you? it gets you busted. his name is radhakrishnan sivaramapillai. and he has been teaching at lundsford middle school in loudoun county. yesterday somebody smelled alcohol on his breath. they reported it and the school resource officer pulled the teacher right out of class and administered a breathalyzer. >> over the limit. actually over the legal limit which would have been a dui had this person been driving. >> officers arrested, jailed and charged the teacher with being drunk in public. the school called parents and the teacher resigned. store owners in southeast dc say they're sick and tired of staring down the barrel of a gun. they have been hit by a string of armed robberies and they're asking where are the police. a camera captured this robbery. three men with guns barge in and

hold up the place. this is exactly the kind of crime that has merchants pleading for more police presence. the mayor says it is already happening. >> we've got bicycle controls. we've increased the midnight tours of duties. we've increased the lighting. and we're asking the officers now to stop in every one of the businesses in the 2900-block up to about the 37, 3800-block of martin luther king avenue. >> store owners in congress heights say if they have to close or move because of crime, it hurts the whole community. an update now on the murder investigation of a fairfax county teenager. police there believe this man may be linked to finding who killed vanessa fan. he jumped into a woman's car at a false church parking lot. the same parking lot where she disappeared. the victim was able to run away and she wasn't hurt. back in june 2010, fan's car was seen exiting the shopping center ten minutes before she was found dead inside it at a ditch near

mitt romney close together separated by a point or two. cain hit the campaign trail in iowa today trying to move past his shaky response to a reporter's question on libya yesterday. >> libya. i got all of this stuff twirling an in my head. >> cain's popularity had already taken a hit from sexual harassment allegations that surfaced a couple of weeks ago and another poll shows nearly three quarters of american women nationwide now call those harassment charges against the candidate serious. for some thanksgiving means getting a head start on holiday shopping sales. but for those working in the cash register, it means missing out on family time. target plans to open its doors at midnight thursday making some employees upset. now more than 85,000 people have signed an online petition through change.org requesting target stay closed until 5:00 in the morning on friday. employees say that would give them enough time to spend with their loved ones and rest up a little bit for all of those black friday shoppers.

caught on tape in baltimore, frightening moments during a raid by the ats. look at this. you can see the agents rushing in on the ground and snipers stationed on top of buildings. shots are fired and a ford explorer tries to get away. instead the driver ends up careening into another suv right there before speeding into rush hour traffic barely missing two other cars. the explorer finally crashes into a pole and the feds make several arrests. >> we all were getting down. >> i heard the gunshots. i came outside. >> at least one agent was hurt. is expected to be okay, though. the atf will not say at this point why the raid was conducted. now to a heart-breaking and amazing story of survival. a 9-year-old girl recovering tonight after getting in a car accident and being trapped in

that wreck for two days. jordan landon says she tried to dig her way out but she couldn't do it. this is surveillance of the little girl and her dad just before the crash which happened last friday. it wasn't until monday that police found their car upside down in a ditch. her father was dead in there with her. a family friend ended up breaking the news to jordan's mom. >> i had to drive her down here. i had to drive her to the hospital. and the whole time she was crying and screaming. >> police say landon's dad was going about 100 miles per hour when the crash happened. i have been covering health and medicine for more than 15 years now and few stories have meant as much to me as this one. it's about my only sister dina who radically changed the way she was living to save herself from the consequences of obesity and give herself a whole new future. >> i was a heavy kid. >> a little chub bee maybe, but certainly not fat. and because of her natural

athleticism, she played three varsity sports in high school. she was able to offset the genetic tendency to gain weight. but after college, a desk job in accounting slowed her down. >> my job is very sedentary, so i didn't do a lot of activities. so it just slowly crept on at first. and then it just really kept coming on and on and on. >> as we took in the scenic views at grace falls, dina remembered how often she chose convenient and fattening food for her lunches. finally at her heaviest my once star athlete weighed 360 pounds and felt the burden of obesity every day. >> it's very mentally tiring suches physically tiring. because every -- as much as because physically tiring. am i going to make somebody uncomfortable flying because i'm that heavy. finally her husband made a physician for them in weight

loss and she had the tools for her transformation. a change that in over a year's time meant losing 120 pounds and six pant sizes. >> to have a doctor who knows, who specializes in that, who treats that every day, it wasn't hard. and she was so positive and she was so just encouraging. >> you can do this. >> yes. >> dina was advised to follow an extremely low carbohydrate diet eating lean protein like eggs, chicken and fish with lots of vegetables and certain low sugar fruits including barries. she also gave up soda and alcohol completely in. in the first two weeks she lost 17 pounds and was energized. >> i started feeling better, i started walking. walking with pain. and then the pain went away. and then i started jogging. and i started with braces on my ankles because they were so weak, i think, from the weight. and now i can jog.

i can bike. i just -- it's completely changed my whole life. >> i can see it. >> an achievement that led to her recognition with an american heart association lifestyle change award at this year's heart walk as thousands looked on at national stadium, this could hardly hold back the tears when i handed her that award. >> it's amazing the things that you lose as you gain weight. but then as you lose the weight again, you really regain yourself. >> and she is still working at it. dina was prescribed a drug that suppresses appetite to use on an as-needed basis. she took it in the afternoon and the beginning for the predinner cravings but doesn't take it at all anymore. it can have serious side effects and should only be taken in a doctor-supervised weight loss program. and, of course, we are coming up on thanksgiving. so you can understand it a bit if the turkeys around here seem a little tense. maybe they're acting up. but a pair of wild turkeys have

slowly progressed. and i mean slowly progressed from cleveland to south of pittsburgh in the course of 26 hours. so it's taken awhile, but now some of the showers are showing up in our western suburbs. nothing heavy just yet. here is live doppler 9000. you can access this on our website at wusa9.com. light activity in leesburg and loudoun county as you go out route 7 and also out towards winchester and up into the mountains. but we're going to see pretty much everybody have showers before the dawn breaks unfortunately. 55 right now in manassas. 57 in leesburg. 57 in gaithersburg. 57 also in andrews. pretty mild. not as mild as last night but pretty mild. so both commutes appear to be wet. morning and evening. in fact, morning thunderstorms are possible. earlier this evening i thought just east of 95. i think thunderstorms can be pretty much anywhere tomorrow morning and early afternoon. you need your umbrella. no doubt about that. and then much colder on thursday. you may want to locate your winter coat for thursday and friday. here is our future cast. now, by 5:30 in the morning, most of the showers just south of town. but everybody is cloudy.

we'll put this into motion. showers roll through very quickly, so it's going to be wet before the commute is over. by lunch time it's very wet across the metro area. notice the yellows and oranges now. and that is moderate to occasionally heavy activity. we see this even during the evening hours. look at this line from frederick down to dc. that is yellow. that is pretty heavy. probably some convection. probably hear the rumble of thunder. and look at the activity south. even this time tomorrow night, left over showers. we do see the back age in upper montgomery county. get into thursday, it's going to clear up. it's going to take awhile. these clouds will hang up for a while. showers will move across the bay. may take until noon to see the sun. overnight mostly cloudy, cooler with showers and thunderstorms possible south and east tonight. 50-55. by morning cloudy with rain, showers and thunderstorms. temperatures in the 50s to around 60. and then by afternoon, more of the same. cloudy and still mild with rain and showers. bring the umbrella. highs between 60 and 65.
