since friday night when uniformed secret service agents heard shots fired at the white house and recovered ortega's car and a rifle abandoned neither roosevelt bridge. the source says the rifle is a chinese made sks carbine with a high powered 7.62-millimeter round. powerful enough to crack a bullet proof resistant window from 1/3 of a mile away. it is the same type of weapon francisco martin used almost two decades ago to fire at the white house while a crowd of tourists watched in horror. now the president and first lady were away from the white house at the time on friday night. but you know that this may rekindle the whole debate about keeping the president safe. the secret service, of course, closed pennsylvania avenue after the oklahoma city bombing. it closed the ellipse after

to the campus police even though his grand jury testimony, he never mentioned that. he only told his dad and his head coach. also today, a new judge has been assigned to the preliminary hearing next month. the judge who set his bond had been a volunteer and a donor to sandusky, the second mile charity. and penn state announced the board of trustees member will serve add the university's acting athletic director, replacing tim curly who stepped aside failing to report the rape accusation to the police. meanwhile, the world's most decorated olympic athlete is among those calling foul after hearing about a proposal to cut eight varsity sports. including swimming and men's track and field. michael is not the only one to speak out. scott broom follows up tonight on reactions that have gone global. >> social media in the olympic world has been lit on fire by

we had to make the economics work and the financials work. but they will work. >> fact of the matter, here's what the district is up against. right now, there are some 35,000 people in washington, d.c. without jobs. here's what wal-mart says it brings to the table. 600 new construction positions. 1800 new retail jobs. >> whether i live here or not, this is something i would be fighting for for the people east of the river. to bring amenities here like we have. >> observants say mayor vincent gray made it clear that he wanted wal-mart to include skyland in its plans to move into the nation's capital. >> it wasn't a deal breaker for you. then you had a problem at wal- mart. >> we never got to that stage. we were very fortunate to be able to sit down with the very highest levels of leadership in wal-mart and very early recognized that there was a desire to do this. >> not everybody is sold on wal-mart's way of doing business. >> hard to find anything that is made in america in wal-mart.

a communitier alert for drivers in the district. the eastbound lanes of the southeast, southwest freeway between pennsylvania avenue southeast and 11th street southeast are going to be closed from 10:00 p.m. tonight until ac in the morning tomorrow. and that same closure will be in effect beginning monday night and on tuesday, november

22. the closures are necessary to install bridge gutters over the freeway for that new freeway bridge. and a head's up if you drive in northern virginia. be prepared for more than the usual holiday shopping traffic jams in tyson's corner area over the next eight days. that is because the exit ramp from eastbound route 7 on to the beltway is being narrowed from two lanes to one. and this is part of v-dot's hot lanes construction project. occupy wall street protesters are spending a wet day down in new york. >> that's right. and as randall pinkston reports, they are getting ready for a big march on wall street tomorrow. >> occupy wall street protesters huddled under umbrellas to stay dry on a rainy day. they insist their movement isn't over. even though a court order put an end to the camp they set up in the park. >> right now physically it looks like oh, the movement is over. we don't have tents everywhere. it's not this huge visual presence.

presence down under. president obama and australia's prime minister shook hands in a new alliance. this deal calls for u.s. marines to start training with australian forces next year. u.s. aircraft will operate in the northern part of that country. the new security agreement is widely seen as a response to china's increasing aggressiveness. >> with their rise comes increased responsibilities. it's important for them to play by the rules of the road. >> now china says the u.s. military buildup in australia may not be in the best interest of the international community. the white house say other countries in that area clear. >> they told us to have our umbrellas ready and you meant it. >> hard to get the dog out for a walk. >> won't go out of his range. >> spoiled. >> he's my man. tomorrow you need a coat. almost like a winter coat.

here's what it looked like this morning and it did slow some of the commuters down. nothing super heavy. we had a couple individual heavy downpours, but nothing craze heavy across the metro. but the umbrellas were out in force. all right, let's talk about what is going to happen. we have another round of showers and even some embedded heavier downpours in west virginia. this has to move through tonight and it's going to generate some pretty good rain through the evening commute. also going to usher in cold air late tonight and tomorrow. live doppler shows showers south of town. anybody going down 3 or route 5, it's going to be wet there and out to the west along i-81. inbetween hagerstown and winchester and also out 66. nothing heavy right now, but that will change in the next couple of hours. temperatures are still mild. 57 arlington. not bad. 57 in sterling and leesburg and even 59 over toward andrews. here's the deal. we're not done yet with the

rain. evening heavy downpours are possible. windy. showers are going to linger tomorrow. that is a change from yesterday. these showers will linger through the morning, possibly into the early to mid afternoon. so, late tonight, 10:00, still some light activity across the metro area. now it moves away from us by 5:00 tomorrow morning. should be a dry commute in the morning with showers only confined to southern maryland. look what happens, moisture returns back across the metro area. we're talking about snow from cumberland. this may be a hair over done, but it makes the point, we aren't done with precipitation until 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 in the afternoon. by 5:00, we see clearing west of leesburg and culpeper. temperatures will really fall like a stone tomorrow night. so for tonight, cloudy, windy, and colder with rain and showers ending late. lows around 45. winds northwest 10 to 20. now tomorrow morning, mostly

>> our peggy fox was there. she joins us to let us know what all this means. peg. >> it's a go. the funding partners have stopped pointing fingers and are now in agreement on how to pay for rail to dulles. a project that has been called critical to the economic viability of northern virginia. >> we are now in a position to stop fighting within ourselves and work in the united cooperative way. >> airport authority and member riley are pleased that after all the finger pointing, metro rail is on a fast track forward. >> opposed? >> the board voted unanimously in favor of the agreement of phase two of project from reston to loudoun county. the cost of the rail project itself has been brought down a billion dollars to 2.8. the other billion hasn't gone away. it's just moved. >> the projects wasn't changed. nothing was reduced.

it got pushed off to the counties. >> be able to use federal credit assistance to build parking facilities and the airport authority will be able to tap into $250 million in funding, which will help bring down tolls initially. >> with the current funding structure, tolls could go as high as $13 one way in twenty years. but as one former board member said, people would rather pay that than sit in traffic. >> i think we're going to be a stronger region. >> the more funding they can secure, the more they can bring down tolls. >> it's easy for different people to throw stones and make us the people who are raising the tolls. we didn't set this formula in place. we are committed to and continue to get funds and we will through the project. we are committed to bring down the tolls. >> loudoun county's board approved the plan last night. the fairfax county board of supervisors is scheduled to vote december 6. it is expected to pass there as well since their county executive has given his thumb's up.

facebook profiles in the past few days. it is part of an attack aimed to spread disturbing pictures all over facebook. and it was done using users own account. >> it's called click span. >> they posted the picture. looks like they liked the picture. >> whoever clicked on the picture or link. >> it automatically shoots that same thumbnail. >> part of the reason the photos remained up for so long is that many users couldn't see the images that were posted on their own news feed. lesli bradshaw with just three of social media strategy company says the only way facebook would know there's a problem is if it gets complaints. she encourages people to flag their friends if they see something suspicious. >> reporting it to facebook doesn't get the user in trouble. it allows facebook to teenage action on the vulnerability that was exploited. >> facebook removed most of the sexually explicit and violent photos. in washington, i'm lindsey

take a look at these pictures out of athens county, ohio. fire crews rushed to the scene of a gas line explosion this morning. witnesses say the flames shot hundreds of feet into the air. people living in the area were warned to stay clear of the area. so far, no reports of any injuries. >> a pretty unusual rescue yesterday near atlanta. a teenager reportedly trying to break into a home had to get pulled out of a chimney. i hate to laugh, but come on, we have seen this story before. crews threw down a rope and pulled the teen out in his socks. the homeowner came back to his house, have no idea what was going on. no word if the teenager will face charges or terminally embarrassed. >> 12 hours in a chimney, that's good humiliation. teen pop star, justin bieber is off the hook. mariah, the woman claimed bieber fathered her baby has dropped her paternity suit. the suit was quietly dismissed after bieber said he would take
