40s this afternoon to near 50 in the southern suburbs. look at the rain we had last night. the showers returning this morning. snow showers already in the mountains of west virginia. live doppler 9000 hd, south and east of town, the rain showers. it is returning here. look at this, almost up toward i-66 in fauquier county. a chilly morning already with temperatures down in the 40s in many areas. beverly farmer, happy thursday. >> happy friday eve to you, howard. we're check out the ride for folks in gaithersburg. sky 9 live over the crash on stretch of clopper road near first, right off of 124. you can see the crash right in the middle of the intersection. nobody is getting by here on clopper road as they deal with the crash. police and fire on the scene. once you get over to 270, lanes open on 270 including out of frederick where they went earlier to look for a vehicle fire. nothing found there. that's better news for you. just got the obstacle getting to 270 if you take clopper road. that whole stretch impacted by the crash here. we'll take a look at the drive

ago today. >> a protest today on capitol hill aimed at preventing cuts to social programs. it will be led by senator bernie sanders. he's the independent from vermont. he will be joined by seniors and doctors from his state. >> that protest on the hill will be tied into the on-going occupy protest nationwide. >> today marks two months since those protests began and protestors will step up their actions. >> surae chinn is live in northwest washington where protestors say they may disrupt tonight's commute home. good morning, surae. >> reporter: it could be a trouble spot later on this afternoon between 2:30 and 6:00 tonight. you see all of the tents, all around here, across here and all across the mcpherson square. they'll be getting up later on this morning, waking up and this afternoon, around 2:30, they're going to march from here to the key bridge. through georgetown and you know how congested it can be in georgetown, getting in and out from there. well, this is a planned day of

action and it is also happening across the country. >> we are the 99%. >> in san francisco, california, some 95 occupy protestors and students were arrested after they stormed into a bank of america, shouted slogans and tried to set up camp inside the lobby. police officers in riot gear arrested the activists, one by one. protestors in new york city plan to shut down wall street, home to the new york stock exchange. around 7:00 this morning and then walk across the brooklyn bridge later in the day. tensions ran high earlier in the week with the eviction of zuccotti park. some protestors returned without their tents since they're now banned from the park. well, back in d.c., the plan march is from 2:30 to 6:00. you'll want to avoid the area, make some plans, alternative routes because it could be a mess. there could be some arrests depending on how long they stay and how much of a traffic

problem it will be. jessica? >> surae chinn live in northwest washington this morning. an 84-year-old occupy protestors who got pepper sprayed by police is getting an apology. dorley rainy was sprayed tuesday night. she refused to leave an intersection after police ordered protestors to go. last night, seattle's mayor apologized to her and other protestors calling it a peaceful protest. the maybe is asking police to re-- the maybe is asking police to review what happened. the james madison university student who was struck and killed was from fairfax, virginia. this is a picture of 18-year- old jane wong from a facebook memorial page. she graduated from wt woodson high school this past spring. hwang was crossing a street when a bus hit her. virginia state police aren't charging the driver. investigators say hwang's inattention was the main factor in the accident. the metropolitan washington's airport authority took a crucial funding vote

clearing the phase for the silver line project. you'll probably wind up paying more in tolls. the board voted unanimously in favor of an agreement to fund the rail line from reston to dulles and ashburn. the price tag, $2.78 billion which is down about a billion dollars. the airport's authority will be able to tap into as much as $250 million in federal funding which will help bring down the tolls. >> we're committed to continue to get funds and we will through the project. we are committed to bring down the tolls. >> the fairfax county board of supervisors is scheduled to vote on the agreement december 6th. it is expected to pass. >> just about 6:06. i'm watching your money. spending your money on a hybrid will do more than save on gas. you might also save yourself. a study out this morning from the highway loss data institute in arlington finds the odds of being injured in a crash are 25% lower for people in hybrids

than for people driving in regular cars. the big reason why is the weight. the report's author says hybrids are 10% heavier on average and that can give you an advantage in a crash. these days, we're not spending our noun replace our cars as fast as we used to. the average car on the road today is nine years, three months old. compare that to 2005 when our cars were eight years, three months old on average. the report is from the national capital region planning board. two big reasons are the sluggish economy and cars that last longer than they used to. you already use google to search the web, send e-mail and get directions and now the internet giant hopes to be the place you go to for music. this is goog am's big challenge to -- this is google's big challenge to the itunes empire empire. google unveils what it considers the future of the

music industry. >> that experience is called google music. >> a new online music store with a play list 13 million songs long. well backed by google, it is still the new kid on the block when compared to apple's itunes store which opened on the web in 2003. >> one big wow. google's huge move against apple stranglehold with itunes over the music industry. >> jessica is a senior editor with the tech site and says google's new project will have wide appeal. >> it means easy music access on a service that most people already use. and that's google. >> google says its new site is all about convenience. allowing music lovers to upload as many as 20,000 of their favorite songs straight to the web for easy playing later. either on their android cell phone or any computer connected to the internet. music producer says google music may be eight years too late. the itunes fan says apple's site has become the modern day record store. >> i really don't think it is going to work.

itunes is too much inbred into the culture. google has a big market share on e-mail and maps but they're not a household name for music. that's where the issue is going to come in. >> with exclusive free music from big name acts now offered on the site, google hopes it is enough to take a bite out of apple. begood sheban, los angeles. google music will sell songs for 99 cents a piece. it will not have music from warner group but it will have music from three big labels, emi, sony and universal and it will also offer a free song each day. we'll have to see how that goes for them. >> competition good for the consumer. >> coming up on 6:089, why the issue of guns will be in the spotlight today on a local college campus. >> the latest on the scendal at penn state. hear from the mother of an alleged victim and why she's pointing fingers at her child's school. >> howard's talking about snowflakes today.

folks. looking live from sky 9 at the scene of the crash. metropolitan grove, clopper road near metropolitan grove, those look like both sides of the roadways are closed. clopper road closed with that crash. this morning, president obama says the u.s. will remain a force in the pacific. it is a not so indirect message to china. >> it is one of the stories making news at 6:12. the president is on the second day of his visit to australia. he told the parliament there the u.s. is "here to stay." the president announced yesterday the u.s. will station up to 2500 marines in northern australia. >> at least four people are dead after a line of storms moved through from louisiana to the carolinas overnight. one of the worst-hit spots was york county, south carolina, just outside of charlotte. the national weather service will work today to confirm if any tornadoes hit.

>> well, this video is from the mexican government. it shows a huge hole. it was a tunnel under the border with california. a raid this weekend covered the tunnel and 17 tons of marijuana inside. it is being called one of the most significant smuggling tunnels ever found. a lot of the focus in the penn state sex abuse scandal has been on the football coaches. >> now, the mother of one alleged victim wants to put the focus back on the children. she's breaking her silence for the first time. >> tommy reports about the interactions jerry sandusky allegedly had with this woman's son. >> i want jerry sandusky to go to jail for the rest of his life. >> the mother of alleged victim number one in the grand jury report against the penn state football coach spoke on the phone to cnn's anderson cooper. her son's school questioned the boy and after she complained about sandusky taking him out of class without her permission. >> they told me that my son had

said some things about -- that there was a problem with jerry and he didn't know -- he didn't really admit anything at that point that it was -- he just said that he thought he needed to tell somebody or it would get worse. the principal said oh, you know, jerry has a heart of gold. i called the police and he said no. he said no, you need to think about -- they said i needed to think about the ramifications of what would happen if i did that. >> what do you think they meant by that? >> i don't know. i guess i'm assuming what we're going through now. i don't really know. >> also wednesday, sandusky's attorney clarified his client's admission on national tv that he showered with boys. >> it wasn't a situation where he was within inches of the young boys involved. the situation where he was in a large locker room shower. >> governor tom corbett defend the his handling of the case. he was pennsylvania's attorney general when the investigation

was handed over to the state more than two years ago. >> if you think i delayed it for any reasons, you're wrong. >> i'm tommy for 9news now. >> the school system named by the alleged victim's mother says it cannot comment but it is cooperating with police in this investigation. this weekend, penn state playsity first road game since the scandal broke. it will take on neighbor ohio state. the ohio state student government is asking fans to be respectful to visiting penn state fans and the players. they released a message which reads in part... they are a proud community and they love their school as much as we love ours. howard is here with the forecast. it is still a hard story to -- hard to make the transition to

they want him to undergo a team physical after his kidnapping ordeal. >> yesterday, the 24-year-old catcher thanked his fans here and in his home country of venezuela. his message was in spanish but you can see the translation on your screen. listen... eight people have been arrested in ramos' kidnapping. the kidnappers told them their motive was money. fortunately, he was rescued unharmed. tonight, the capitals make their first trip to the canadian province of manitoba in more than 15 years. they head there to take on a fellow southeast division rival. the capitals will head 1250 miles from verizon center to visit the winnipeg jets. the team relocated from atlanta in the off-season.

the metro. those showers head toward leesburg. bundle up. temperatures now in the mid-40s with winds in the 30s. not the prettiest day. talking about the weekend in a few minutes. right now, good morning to beverly farmer with timesaver traffic. >> howard, good morning. not so good in gaithersburg dealing with a crash in awhile. stretch of clopper road has been closed between metropolitan grove and firstfield road. the good sign is see the vehicles loaded up on the tow trucks, they should be reopening clopper road very soon there right near first field. southbound lanes of 270, we're just getting rid of the crash. details coming up on that. let's check the ride on the outer loop heading west of college park into silver spring. with that obstacle, pretty much you can tell it will slow as you make your way from new hampshire west, no accidents are reported in the slow trip. your drive on northbound 950 and 395, still slow coming into the prince william parkway across the occoquan.

new volume in newington. little more volume at landmark and now just coming up from battery channel drive to get to the 14th street bridge. your next check of timesaver traffic coming up. andrea? >> at 6:32, we have a commuter alert. weekend track work with close part of the blue and yellow lines. they will be closed between pentagon city and king street in northern virginia. the closure starts tomorrow night at 10:00 and will go through sunday night. no metro service to national airport this weekend. there will be shuttle bus service including an express bus between the airport and metro center. you should add 30 minutes to your travel time. the man accused of firing an ak-47 at the white house is due in court later today. he could be charged with attempted assassination. >> police caught up with the suspect wednesday. he was found in the town of indiana, pennsylvania. that's in the central part of the state, east of pittsburgh. his name, ortega hernandez. the 21-year-old is accused of firing a gun at the white house last friday night.

at least one bullet hit the mansion. it was stopped by bulletproof glass. a friend of ortega hernandez said he was obsessed with conspiracy theories. >> he goes well, the president's going to make an announcement that they're going to put gps chips in all of the children so that we can keep them safe. and -- which is exactly the kind of thing the anti-christ is supposed to do. i said well, i don't really think obama's the anti-christ. >> hernandez was not on any secret service watch list. there will be competing rallies today on the campus of virginia tech. one in favor of expanding gun control. the other in favor of protecting gun rights. the group virginia citizens defense league will be in blacksburg. they want the state to allow college students with permits to be allowed to have guns on campus. on the other side, survivors of the 2007 shooting rampage at virginia tech.

that tragedy left 31 people dead. soon, you could be able to take your concealed weapon across state lines. the house voted to make concealed weapons permits issued in one state valid in every other state which allows people to carry guns. however, the bill could face some tough opposition before it goes before the senate. the law would not affect d.c. or illinois and that is because they do not issue concealed carry permits. today marks two months since the start of the occupy protest in new york, washington and around the nation. today, protestors nationwide promise to make themselves seen and heard! surae chinn is live at mcpherson square in northwest washington with a preview of what we can expect. good morning, surae. >> good morning. well, you can expect a tough commute later on today. near the key bridge. on the key bridge. in georgetown. between 230 and 6:00, a lot of the protestors here at mcpherson square are planning to march from here to georgetown and across the

bridge this afternoon. it could be a mess for commuters. a mess all the way around. there could be even arrests happening just like what's happening in san francisco, california. >> united, we'll never be divided! the people united, will never be divided. >> reporter: this was yesterday when protestors stormed a bank of america in san francisco. police in riot gear arrested them one by one and hauled them off to jail. in new york city, tensions ran high when police started evicting people in zuccotti park. some returned without their tents since they are banned now. the plan today is for protestors to take over wall street. the brooklyn bridge and subway stations. there is also a planned march in l.a. during rush hour. that could be a mess as well. and this picture, if there is nothing you see today, take a look at this one on your tv monitor. it has gone viral. an 84-year-old woman in seattle became the face of the national

southeast d.c. the area is marked with dozens of boarded up buildings and closed stores. unemployment in ward seven is just under 20%. the store could create as many as 2400 jobs. walmart's general manager says high unemployment in the area is one of the main reasons why bridging the store to the skyland area is a good idea. >> i think it is a great location. we had to make the economics work and the financials work but they will work. >> not everyone in the community is buying. what walmart is selling. those opposed to it say they're concerned about how walmart does business. they also say very few of the products sold in walmart stores are made in america. yesterday morning, we told you about the target worker in nebraska who started an online petition. >> he's mad about the company's plans to open at 9:00 on thanksgiving night. >> anthony hardwick says it is unfair to target workers to have to leave thanksgiving dinner to head to work but the company says it is just supply and demand and it points out

i'm here in the weather center with howard and he says the radar is getting busy. what does that mean is it. >> more green showing up now. more rain and turns on the radar. we've got more showers out there. that will be the case at least through midday. colder temps, some of the rain

and every time i said it, i smiled. north and west of town, we may get a few flakes. let's talk about this morning's bus stop forecast. it is kind of raw out there. even if is not raining, the winds are taking up. temperatures have dropped into the 40s. good, hearty jacket. still around 50 in some spots far south and east of town with the scattered showers. today, we're going to have scattered showers at least through midday. if not early afternoon as temperatures settle into the low to mid-40s here by 1:00, this is when we could see some of the snowflakes mixing in especially north and west of washington. as we get to the afternoon, rain showers taper from west to east lingering in southern maryland. mostly cloudy and 46 if not colder with a northwest wind at 12. wind chills will be down in the 30s, the upper 30s. rain last night, some areas had over an inch to the south of town and then this morning, look how the rain has filled in once again across virginia. west virginia where it has turned into a little bit of snow in the higher elevations

of the eastern part of the state. north up 270, not really raining. maybe a little drizzle in spots. getting closer and closer toward washington right now. east of 95 and south of washington, a lot more shower activity across from easton, up toward areas just across the bay bridge there to chester town. down scattered about in calvert, st. mary's, anne arundel county, down in mechanicsville, we're seeing showers. culpepper. you can see some of the heavier showers from chesapeake beach up toward shadyside and the eastern shore. let's talk temps down in the low 50s in pax river. upper 40s here in d.c. mid-40s just north and west of town. 41 in cumberland. below freezing in oakland where those folks are likely to pick up an inch or two of snow with wind chills, the other thing we'll be dealing with all day. wind chills in the upper 30s to mid-40s. bundle up and stay dry. 48, light rain showers at reagan national with a wind chill of 44.

we have butternut squash bread pudding. >> the bread pudding is a lot like a stuffing. tell us about that. >> you have cream and milk here simmering with sage and the spices. and then you're going to pour that over your bread. the bread is like old bread that you have from the day before. little earlier. then you pour that over the top. you remove some leaves at the end. >> do you let that soak? >> yes, you let that soak. you add some eggs then at the end, you have this mixture. >> you cook it in the oven and it comes out looking like this over here. i'm going to bring it over so we don't burn our fingers. now, at the ritz-carlton washington, you have two options. you have a takeout service that people can come in and get some food or you can come and sit down as well. >> we have the turkey to go. that will be between 11:00 and 4:00 p.m. you can come and pick up your turkey. we have pretty much the same selection here. the stuffing is a little
