of the other programs. but it's not enough money to keep those teams viable. >> i want to make it very clear that this is perhaps one of the most painful and heart wrenching decisions i've made. >> it's very disappointing. it's a huge upset. but we're staying positive and we're going to work really hard to raise all of the money so we don't get cut. we're going to prove them wrong and we're not giving up. >> currently maryland operates a 27 team athletic department. if the university loses those eight sports, it will be down to 19 teams making it the 4th smallest in the acc. topper. >> well, despite the showers and the drizzle, got up to 64 today. here is your wakeup weather. you need one of these. i'll tell you what, 48-54 at 5:00. 45-50 at 7:00 and 47-52 at 9:00 with rain. we'll tell you when the heaviest

11:16 pm
republicans compromise on tax hikes, government just gets bigger. so this time around, compromise was a dirty word. no compromise means no deal. now, everybody is calling on lawmakers to put the politics aside. but what they're really asking for is politicians to forget their own self interest and vote for the good of america. that sounds great, but the problem is lawmakers have got very different visions of what that means and so do the voters they represent. in 1990 with the economy down and the automatic budget cuts looming, then president bush broke his no new taxes pledge and made the deal with the democrats. well, he was hammered for it by his own party. and eventually lost reelection. was that political courage or was it breaking faith with your supporters? perhaps it was both. but today all most politicians remember is he didn't win. anita. >> well, who couldn't use a little extra cash with the holiday shopping season about to kick into full gear. that's what we've been talking about. and all this week we've been trying to reunite people with

cash and valuables being held by state treasuries. the assets are from forgotten bank accounts, insurance policies, you name if. and we have the most up-to-date list of names on these rosters. let's begin in virginia. these names are on the list if you recognize any of these names or you want to see if yours might be on the list, go to the claim your cash headquarters. log on to our website wusa9.com and go to our consumer page. it's right there. well, top. >> yes. >> kind of rainy and cloudy and nasty. >> just wait. it gets worse before better. but it's going to be very, very nice for turkey day. >> mild? >> yes. >> it's going to be mild enough to deep fry your turkey. >> all right.
11:18 pm
>> just cold enough night for a fire. >> perfect. >> but until then, we have some stuff to get through. let's start with the big picture. satellite picture radar combined. look at all of the heavy activity in arkansas pushing into southern missouri. this is pretty good convection. pretty good thunderstorms right now. and some of this energy is actually going to get in here. we're going to tap some of this energy as we get into tomorrow afternoon and early tomorrow evening. in the meantime, we'll kind of fly to the east here. i mean, there is a little bit of shower activity and a little bit of drizzle here. but as we mentioned earlier, nothing heavy happens tonight. nothing really widespread happens tonight. unfortunately, it's going to be a wet commute. just enough to keep the roads wet. and, remember, leaves are on the road, so take it easy. live doppler 9000, heaviest activity, and it's still light, out towards winchester and front royal in between those two areas around i81 and the rest of us have light rain drizzle and a little bit of fog. you need an umbrella. heavier and steady rain will develop tomorrow afternoon.
11:19 pm
maybe looking at 1-2 inches of rain before everything ends on wednesday. either late morning or early afternoon. pretty good soaking rain. good news, though, thanksgiving will be great. mild. temperatures even a shade above average for this time of year. all right. here is a look at our future cast and 5:30 in the morning we have rain. nothing crazy heavy but enough to slow the commute. i would go ahead and allow maybe ten minutes tomorrow morning to leave. now, by lunch time, we find, again, light rain around the immediate metro area. see the yellows back in the mountains, that's heavier activity. we'll stop it again. in the evening we see the heavy activity to the north of town. but i think some of the heavy activity can get all the way down to dc into silver spring and bethesda and northwest dc. so we're looking at the worst commute will be tomorrow night just because of the heavier rain. now, we take it into about four hours from now, we still -- 24 hours from now, we still have some light rain. then do you see the little band of yellow and orange go through, maybe some thunderstorms
11:20 pm
tomorrow night and this is finally 11:00 on wednesday. most of the showers beginning to lift out. winds pick up. we will dry out very quickly after that happens. so overnight cloudy and mild with rain, showers and fog. just one blanket night. nothing heavy. lows 54. lows 45-50. now tomorrow morning, cloudy and mild with rain and showers. grab your umbrella. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. and then by afternoon, well, cloudy and cooler. heavier rain and showers develop. so keep the umbrella nearby. high temps near 55. that's almost average and winds easterly at about ten. so highs tomorrow with the clouds and the showers are pretty even playing field. 54 in gaithersburg. 54 in reston and 55 downtown. all right. we'll take you out to the mountains. 48 in oakland with rain and showers. 50 in cumberland. low 50s for hagerstown, martinsburg and winchester. 55 in culpeper. 53 in warrenton, leesburg, manassas, maybe 53 fairfax. maybe 54 and 55 downtown. 53 by the water. all right.
11:21 pm
so let's break it down. showers and rain. 45-50 in the morning. and then heavier activity by noon. 45-54. and then even heavier activity by evening. 51 to about 55. all right. next seven days, we are going to set the stage, though, for a nice thursday. rain and showers end wednesday. we clear out and get windy and then 58 on thanksgiving. we're back in the 60s friday, saturday and sunday. we have some clouds coming back in on sunday, but we're going to keep it dry with temperatures still in the low 60s and monday rain and showers roll back in. we're talking about temperatures around 60. and i have to tell you we talked about it last week. it's quiet travel day on wednesday across most of the country. and no snowstorms. >> good to know. >> way to go. >> thank you very much. i keep hoping there will be some kind of update like this just in. graham makes the 52-yard field goal. >> i know. and as we were ut canning all of the highlights -- cutting all of the highlights yesterday, you could just see the defeat on their face. and unfortunately for them, the injuries continue to haunt the redskins. they lost another offensive

for the past few weeks, all we've been able to talk about is the redskins ash burn. six straight losses ab the inability to -- and the inability to score touchdowns. and even though they let a victory slip away, there is a small silver lining. the redskins gave one of the best performances we've seen this season. they headed into half time with the lead. the hard loss for the players to digest; but there are some positives to take away from it all. >> we showed that we have the versatility on offense to throw the ball. but rex opened a lot of eyes. i was excited about that. >> as impressed as i was last week, i'm optimistic this week. we played great offensively. >> the injury bug hit again. the injury to trent's knee isn't as bad as they thought it was. he should be out 1-2 weeks.
11:26 pm
also santana moss will test it out this week during practice. he could return on sunday. some fans are so fed up with the way the team is run is they are urging dan snyder to sell the team. it places the blame on snyder, everything from metalling expensive free agents. after losing six of the last seven games, capital's head coach bruce boudreau was said up. so this afternoon he didn't post his usual lineup telling the players be ready to play. and they did. alex ovechkin and the caps back home taking on the phoenix coyotes. in the first period washington on a power play but they turn the puck over. break away gets the puck past and coyotes get on the board first. but the caps fight back and in the third nick backstrom with help from alex ovechkin put the

caps up 1. the fourth goal of the season. caps broke their four-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over phoenix. >> halfway through the game we thought we were doing all the right things. and if we kept going, that eventually something would break. and congratulations to the guys for pushing through. >> and the caps need the momentum to continue. sidney crosby played for the first time tonight since suffering a concussion january 5th. he scored within the first five minutes of the game and scored two goals. the caps play pittsburgh next week. and the boxer's secret comes out. not only does he get knocked down but so does his toupee. bye bye, hair. >> no. >> it's knocked out as well.
