icc, all sorts of information about the road and its tolls for you at wusa9.com. >> egyptian police arrested three u.s. students during violent protests in the capital. those students, part of a study abroad program at the american university in cairo. they're arrests came as the violence broke out against the police and protesters. this was day number 4. those protesters are demanding the military council hand over power to a civilian government. >> we need to have a clear cut timetable. we need to have a president by april. we need to have a proper democracy in place so that we know where we stand. >> the politicians say the military council has agreed to transfer control to civilian leaders next july. but the protesters aren't satisfied. they are now pushing for a second revolution. similar to the one that ousted jose mubarac earlier this

year. >> andrea mccarren has more on derrik sweeney's arrest and reaction from his classmates at georgetown. >> georgetown student, derrik sweeney of jefferson city, missouri, on a semester abroad program in cairo. now he is spending time in the custody with police. >> standing up for what you feel is right. >> egyptian state television showed video of the three college students. sweeney is on the right, standing shoulder to shoulder looking nervous. they are on display along with their id cards and bottles that appear to be filled with liquid. >> we always think as americans we have all of these rights, but we don't. especially in a country like egypt, where there's so much political turmoil. >> police arrested 21-year-old luke gates. an indiana university student and 19-year-old gregory porter. andrea mccarren, 9news now.

14 years in prison. the former prince georges county executive and his wife pled guilty to corruption and extortion charges this year. she faces up to 18 months in prison for her role. and as the republican presidential candidates take the stage for yet another debate, a new candidate has taken the lead over the pack. it is former house speaker, newt gingrich. and a poll released yesterday, 26% of the voters backed gwynn grin. that's four points ahead of the former massachusetts governor and former front runner, mitt romney. herman cain, who was a front runner got just 14%. president obama has hit the campaign trail and today, he traveled to new hampshire, which holds the country's first primary. would you believe just seven weeks from now. president obama promising to keep trying to persuade congress to pass his jobs plan. under that plan, he wants to extend the payroll tax cuts that set to go bye bye at the end of the year. that tax cut in mind, the president had a message he asked the folks in new

hampshire to relay to the republicans. >> you just remind them that i have lowered your taxes. >> president obama won new hampshire in the 2008 election, but the latest poll show that in an election took place today, republican, mitt romney would beat him. >> the redistricting plan can claim an early victory in their plan to throw that out. a lawsuit should be heard by the fourth circuit court of appeals. the state of maryland asked that the case be thrown out. the group is back by the political action committee and the maryland gop and it argues that the redistricting map die lutes the minority in prince georges county. >> all right, very nasty outside, raining all day long and it's not about to stop now. what are we talking about tonight? >> right now it's light. but the roads are wet. and we are looking at another batch of rain that will move in. let's start with live doppler.

when they were on their way to a metro stop. the paramedics responded, but curtis told them you either leave the dog or walk to the hospital. >> they didn't care. they didn't have any concern. i'm asking them, there's nowhere for them to be strapped. i said he doesn't need to be strapped down. he'll stay in one position. and they wouldn't do it. >> maryland law says nobody can deny the admittance of a service animal with somebody who has a disability. he filed a complaint. the fire department says it is looking into it. curtis did get to the hospital after he called his supervisor to watch his dog. imagine school recess with no football, basketballs, baseballs, that's now the reality at one elementary school in toronto, canada. the school's principal banned all balls not made of sponge from the school. she says it will help protect the staff and students pointing out one parent suffered a

lawmakers now trading blame today after the so-called debt supercommittee failed to make the deal this week to bipartisan panel was passed with trimming at least $1.2 trillion from the ballooning deficit. but yesterday, the committee announced they couldn't make such a deal and they took off for the thanksgiving break. >> the american people are going to force congress to do this and i think this will be the center piece going forward in this next election. >> the idea that the military, cuts in the military spending would be demanded in order to raise taxes is as unpatriotic and as contrary to the needs of

giving away thanksgiving meals today. >> oh my goodness, this is wonderful. it helps tremendously. i mean, just think, this is close to maybe $100 worth of groceries that i didn't have to pay for. >> one of the 3500 people in prince georges county getting a free thanksgiving feast from the washington redskins. >> this is an opportunity to help somebody have a thanksgiving dinner that a lot of people take for granted. a lot of families are fighting, trying to provide. any way we can give back and make it easier for them is a blessing. >> we started this nine years ago as a very, very important activity, giving back to the community. prince georges county has been great to fedex field, to the redskins. we are so thankful. >> redskins owner wants to make sure that the fans and families who need it most are the ones that get free food. so every person here has been prescreened. they have to prove that they live in prince georges county and that they need the free food.

>> how much does this help out you and your family for thanksgiving? >> real, a real lot. we were struggling and everything. god bless everybody and thank you you all very much. >> would you have a thanksgiving meal were it not for this turkey? >> probably not. probably not. >> at fedex field, kristin fisher, 9news now. >> redskins are winners out there. now, holly acres mobile home may finally be able to rebuild dozens of homes that were destroyed or damaged by tropical storm lee. the prince william board of zoning appeals voted to reverse the county's decision to bar residents from rebuilding. back in september, prince william declared 66 homes uninhabitable because they were damaged by the storm and most of those homes were demolished. if it does, the case goes to court. >> well, speaking of storms and wet stuff, we are getting our fill over the next day or two. >> we are. the silver lining, a quiet travel day tomorrow. and a fantastic weekend.

i mean -- okay. we're looking at fantastic weather with temperatures going back in the 60s over the weekend. we have rain to get through. here's the satellite picture radar combined. the heaviest showers and thunderstorms can be found headed our way. we have rests, nothing is heavy. still roads are plenty wet, but nothing heavy. light rain or drizzle. we'll zoom in. this is the activity. you can see most of the heavy activity is well to the north and to the east of us. at least at this time. live doppler 9,000 hasn't changed much. this area of light rain is creeping up 95. there's still some drizzle and some fog. so take it easy if you're going out tonight. temperatures, very mild and they are climbing. that's the good news. 59 college park. 57 in bethesda. 55 in rockville. 54 up. 55 in gaithersburg. that's a pretty good deal for this time of year.

all right, more rain is on the way. rain and perhaps a thunderstorm tonight. breezy and milder over night. morning rain on wednesday very windy. then a break. possibly some sunshine. and then afternoon, evening showers will develop and it will turn colder late in the day. so when you leave in the morning, you're going to think, really warm, don't need a coat. you do need a coat, bring it with you. midnight tonight, some light rain just to the west of us. gaithersburg, leesburg, heavier rain in the mountains. there's a flash flood watch out for western maryland. now we get into 7:00 in the morning. the heavy activity pushes through and you may hear the rumble of thunder with that. the roads will probably be wet for the rush hour tomorrow. we get a break in the clouds. then more showers develop just in time for the evening rush. maybe even through 6:00 or 7:00. this is slow, but you get the idea. showers will redevelop and rapid clearing tomorrow night. a little colder tomorrow. still, pretty nice. breezy and mild tonight with rain and thunderstorms. a zero blanket night.

by morning, rain ends early. windy and mild, but grab a coat. 50s and 60s and by afternoon, some showers redevelop. becoming partly sunny. windy and colder late. highs mid to low 60s. winds 15 to 25 and gusty. i got to tell you, all in all for a travel day, this is as good as it gets across the lower 48. yes, we have rain from northern california up to seattle with snow and the higher elevations. but no snowstorms in the rockies. nothing going on in the plains or the great lakes or the midwest and we have lingering showers here and that's about it. we'll break it down. 50s tomorrow. rain and showers ending. some showers by noon. better chance for showers between noon and 5:00. temperatures turning colder late. temperatures in the 50s and in the 40s shortly. next seven days, look at this. 57 on thanksgiving. gets cooler. and then look, we're back in the 60s. that's more like early april or late october. sunshine saturday. sunday some clouds coming in.

in the mail bag tonight, reaction to the supercommittee's super failure to come up with a plan to eliminate a trillion dollars in federal red ink. steph was not the only person to write in. we as americans should take a stance and get rid of all incumbents and replace congress as a whole. thus sending the message that if they can't work together and do their jobs and stop playing the finger pointing blame game, then we will continue to replace them until we get something that works. it could work. well yes, stephanie, it could work, but i think it's unlikely. the replacement lawmakers would be behold that doom the supercommittee from the start. and then there was this on the case of the evil kiss. yesterday we told you about a school down in florida where officials called the cops when officials saw a girl kissing a boy. a bit of an over reaction
