on. so why are we turning the car around and going where? >> $1.3 trillion in debt this year, people can't even get their brains around the kind of debt we have in this country. it's not just about the economy obviously but it's also about economics and about cultural issues. about some of the challenges we face. going forward from america it's a book written for a national audience for national consumption. it's not a memoir or autobiography but very timely. it's written particularly for consumption during the presidential race. of 2012 this i know you want to get into. >> right. exactly but also the timing of your book tour. yesterday, you were on the witness stand in a court case. your former chief of staff paul shoric is accused consider. >> communications director. >> is accused of trying to tamper with the votes of black voters in baltimore county and prince george's county. and you were on the stand at a character witness. and talking about an honest

guy, a family guy. a good guy. >> as mostly actually democrats testified yesterday to that. and the same way a few weeks ago i was on the stand testifying for curry. a democratic state senator. this is very limited testimony obviously because i didn't know the facts of the case. >> now people are still going to question -- >> oh sure. >> such a good guy, how could you not know what was going on? >> can they wait to make final judgment until the jury comes back? as you know a major count was thrown out yesterday. every trial in fact regardless of whether it's politics or not, wait the see the final outcome. >> let's talk about the presidential politics. can herman cain survive? >> probably not. and i like herman and i know him. when there's smoke, when there's so much smoke, whether there's fire or not it's almost irrelevant because there's so much smoke it's hard to breathe and that's what you see happening in this campaign. not one time or one woman, it's a series of events and given

the nature of the media today. realtime. 24/7, it's very difficult to survive. >> was he viable even before this school dan broke -- scandal broke? >> probably not. he was viable as a character and interesting person, it's a great life story as a political leader but probably not as a presidential candidate. >> you are chairman of mitt romney's maryland campaign. yes, and you say he has the best chance of beating president obama. >> i do. >> he has the experience. so because of your role, can you answer the question that's on the cover of "time" magazine? why don't they like me? and we're not talking about the rest of the country. we're talking about mitt romney. and the perception that even his own party doesn't like him. >> it's a little bit overplayed because he's very popular. he's either first or second in every poll. the real title of that magazine cover should be why can't i close now? >> okay, why can't he? >> because there seems to be a flavor of the day but that's the nature of primary politics as you know. we've had five plays of the -- flavors of the day and now newt. newt nowhere, boom, right to

the top but mitt's been very set and that's i -- consistent and that's i think a tortoise and the hare and i think the country wants a manager. the country wants somebody to say this is how we're going to grow out of this not just recession but weak recovery. >> you're done in maryland politics, what's the future for bob ehrlich in 2013? vice president ehrlich? >> first of all -- book tour. [ laughter ] >> book tour leading to vice presidency? senator? >> you don't think about any of that stuff quite frankly now. i am focused on obviously the book tour and also electing president romney. i think it's important for the country. i like president obama personally, i don't like the direction of the country. i think the economy will dictate -- >> isn't it your party's fault as much as the democrats that we're not moving anywhere? look at this payroll tax cut. >> i think that with regard to obama care and stimulus, the president owns that and it's

going to be difficult to overcome this election cycle. >> he did dodge the question. we do not know what's in the future of bob ehrlich. jess? thank you andrea. the time right now 6:06 and just a few hours the labor department will issue its november unemployment report. it's expected to say that companies added 125,000 jobs last month. but it won't be enough to move the unemployment rate down below 9%. it won't be enough to jump- start the economy. the inability of democrats and republicans could end up costing you directly. both parties say they want to extend the existing payroll tax cut. getting it of the cut would take $1,000 a year out of the average american family's earnings. a lye report from the hill at 6:30. with all of that going on,

and 14 million americans unemployed, we are working to help get you hired. now today, our partners at career builder are out with a list of companies looking to hire in big numbers and these were the top three. number one, wells fargo, nationwide they have a report of 10,000 jobs available for positions such as tellers, personal bankers, customer service reps and underwriters and here in the washington area, there are about 30 jobs listed right now on career builder. sears k-mart is looking for over 1,000 people nationwide for positions like retail sales, repair technicians, store managers. locally there are about 60 jobs available and morgan stanley smith barney currently has 1,000 jobs around the country open for things like financial advisers. locally there are around 20 jobs available. other companies that had a lot of openings included service master, chico's, new york life insurance and tango transport. the pentagon and northern

virginia leaders are engaging in a new war of words over an old topic -- the marx center. that's in alexandria which now houses thousands of federal workers. it's brought traffic tie-ups. the pentagon said it wouldn't. a new report says the department of defense did deplait plait the numbers but the army is firing back. fairfax county police want to stop the grinches out there. their rat program is underway. the retail antitheft teams will stop shoplifters and scammers and the target isn't just the petty criminals but the big bad guys as well. >> we're not talking the petty shoplifting crimes. we're talking about thousands of dollars of merchandise being stolen either by credit cards, by fake currency, and even by people going in with -- with

it is 6:12. a chilly morning out there. we got 20s and 30s but the winds are light and we got a lot of frost too on the windshields. 50 degrees by noon, warm up this afternoon to the mid 50s. a front comes through turning the wind northwest 5 to 10. right now sam a.m. with traffic -- monika samtani with timesaver traffic. a live look at the southbound side of i-270 here. you can see the volume is building through the gaithersburg area but no problems to report. just a bit of slow traffic. coming up in my next report, another look into maryland at 6:18. back to you. thank you monika. this morning an icon of the american mission in iraq is now in iraqi hands. it's a big step on the path for full u.s. withdrawal. >> that's one of the stories making news now. overnight iraqis took control of camp victory. it used to be a palace for

dictator saddam hussein. once his government fell u.s. generals used it to plot the war's course. it will be a second day of cleaning up after a vicious wind storm in southern california. santa ana winds blew through the region wednesday and thursday causing damage. at one point, more than 370,000 people were without power. if you missed it take a look at this. the iconic redeemer statue in rhee owe dejannero bathed in red light overnight. it will stay lit red at night through the weekend. this morning, a team of volunteers will be out in falls church, virginia fixing up the homes of military veterans and decorating them for the holidays. the group is called the wish makers. >> to tell us more about what's done and how, we're joined by jeff jones the founder of decorate a vet and bernard stull a veteran. guys, good to have you here with us, jeff, how did this get started? tell us.

>> well, it really started out of my business and doing some landscaping work in falls church area. and just sort of noticing that some of the homes of our veterans just needed a little bit of a spruceup. so we joined together with some local companies and started decorate a vet. >> now bernard you're one of the recipients of the spruce up, what are they doing with your home? >> oh lord, they came in and made it -- spruced it up plus. made the great improvements in it. >> and how does it feel? >> ha ha. well, i've been chuckling a lot. yes, it's very joyful. it's -- a heck of a holiday gift. >> and jeff, you are also partnering with angie's list for this. why did you take on a partner and how much more can you do for people like bernard with a partner? >> well, angie's list was critical for our group and really here in year, it was sort of our -- this year, it was sort of our test run with

angie's list to find prescreened and qualified contractors to really ramp up the renovations, from here we can step up and serve other cities. as a matter of fact we're teaming with them now to help a disabled veteran in texas. so they help us identify contractors all over the nation. >> now, bernard this is a great thank you for the work that you're done for our country. how did you find yourself the recipient of this help? >> could you repeat that last part please? >> sure, absolutely, how did you find yourself receiving this help? how were you chosen? >> i'll step in for bernie. it's hard to hear. the american legion post 130 here in falls church has been critical for us to find all of the veterans. so harry, the post commander there identifies veterans for us each christmas and bernie was one of them this year. >> jeff and bernard, thank you very much, jeff, a very merry

we've got readings down in the 20s and 30s. sunrise, eight minutes after 7:00 and a sunny day ahead although there could be a couple of clouds as the cold front pushes through. winds shifting to the knot west behind the front this afternoon. mid 50s today and then cool back into the 20s and 30s by tomorrow morning. 52 by the way for the drive home with the high enter around 55, 56. mid 20s in culpeper and 21 in frederick last week. winchester 27. the windchills are not bad because the winds are fairly light although culpeper it the feeling like 20 right now. that's the coldest windchill we have. 35, calm winds at reagan national and the barometer the sorting to lower. -- the starting to lower. 100-mile an hour winds across parking lots of california and colorado. this moves into texas and oklahoma. this front is coming through the great lakes. this is going to be bringing some rain and snow showers here

to new york state and new england and northern pennsylvania. for us it drags the cold front through this afternoon. we're chilly this morning and cool to mild afternoon in the 50s and then a decent weekend. in fact today 56 or so in town. back in the 20s and 30s by tomorrow morning. a chilly saturday around 50 but sunday, milder. upper 50s so a very good weekend. monday a few more clouds and in fact we may see a few more clouds sunday but increasing clouds monday. 60. tuesday showers around 60 and it looks wet wednesday and thursday with temperatures in the 50s. here's monika samtani with the timesaver traffic. straight to a map. you should expect some delays on metro due to track work. they are single tracking this is unscheduled between vienna and dun loring. just keep that in mind for your travel plans. to the northbound side of i-95. got delays getting through

welcome back, 6:24 on friday morning. it's cold out there. frosty windshields and temps down in the 20s and lower 30s and a nice day ahead in spite of that because of the sunshine. in fact by noon around 50. this afternoon, highs in the mid 50s. northwest wind at 5 to 10 and by 6:00 we're down to 50. another cold night but a good weekend ahead. more on that coming up. right now back to you. in sports, the capitals new head coach is still look for his first nhl win. dale hunter is now 0-2. >> last night's loss came at the hands of a hated pittsburgh penguins, they trailed 1-0 in

the second period last night. jason chimera with the backhand shot and that tied the game at 1. it's the tenth goal of the season for chimera. but in the third with less than three minutes left. pittsburgh with the one timer that sneaks in and that is the game winner for the other team. caps lose 2-1 and they host the senators tomorrow night. and nfl last night with the eagles visiting the seahawks, seattle's marshawn lynch had a great night. he rushed for 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns. seahawks topped the eagles 31- 14. the eagles fall to 4-8 which moves the redskins up to third place in the nfc east, still hope. now to college football. west virginia has secured at least a tie for the big east title and that means it could be headed to the bcs bowl game. the mountaineers visited south florida last night. tied at 27 with time running out. that's when tyler bittenkirk

7 into tyson's past all the metro construction. no problems to report on route 123 in this area as well. and speaking of metro, we have a commuter alert for you this morning. more weekend headaches for metro riders. starting tonight at 10:00, the red line will be closed from glenmont all the way to rhode island avenue. it will stay closed through sunday night but free shuttle buses will get you through that area. you will need to add 30 minutes to your commute there. also this weekend, no service on the orange line between the cheverly and deanwood stations. that starts tonight at 10:00 and also buses there but you need to schedule an extra 20 minutes for your travel time there. now, we are getting a look at what train riders complain about when it comes to their commute. now can you guess what's the top complaint or what's yours? >> the train -- lack of seats. >> i think that's a big one. >> that's a good one. >> a lot of people standing in the door when you try to get out. >> yes. let people out first and then you can go in. well, there were hundreds of complaints -- 4800 complaints in the first half of this year.

the "washington post" breaks down the biggest issues line by line. now on the red line, the biggest thing people complained about was the delays. and late trains. the second biggest issue was inadequate service. on the blue and orange lines, the biggest subject for complaints was that inadequate service and number two was delays. however, on the green and yellow lines the biggest issue is safety. and security. and inadequate service was number two. now met resays overall there are 84 different categories of complaints from riders. >> but i agree with you guys. >> it's amazing, i think our reaction is because we're infrequent riders of metro. so there's certain things that bug the infrequent rider but if you're using it daily, security and lack of service or inadequate service is tops on the list. >> and i tell you when you're sitting there and you see a handicapped rider come on and nobody gives up the seat? that makes you furious. and people talking about on the phones. >> you can't understand or hear

the voice. >> that's right. all right. well -- now at 6:34 a consumer alert. honda is issuing a global recall. it affects a quarter million cars here in the u.s. and here are the models affected -- honda says the air bags in those cars may inflate with too much pressure in the crash. now that could hurt or even kill the driver and passenger if you have any questions about your car, visit your honda dealer. gm says its extended range electric car called the volt is safe but it will buy back the car from any owner who is concerned about safety. some volts crash tested by the government caught fire one to three weeks after the test. gm says that's because they were not stored properly. earlier this week chevy will give loaner cars to any volt owner worried about the safety. there are about 6,000-volts on the road right now. how would you feel the

$1,000 disappeared from your paycheck? that's how much the average family would lose if a payroll tax rate is not extended. 9news now's surae chinn is live on capitol hill this morning. >> reporter: that's right. it's not what you want to hear this morning. right congress? another impasse there on capitol hill. but that's exactly what we're facing and again, that could mean smaller paychecks and you said it -- try by $1,000 for the average american family. you know, these proposals would have kept the tax breaks going for millions and millions of americans but the senate rejected it last night. both sides though at least want to keep it -- the tax breaks going but they just don't know how to do it. democrats want to raise taxes on the wealthy while republicans propose freezing federal salaries and cutting 200,000 government jobs. >> america's middle class has been hurting for a long time. they are the people who are struggling and they're the ones

who need help. not the multimillionaires. >> this is the kind of balanced plan americans are looking for. focused on helping middle class americans without asking them to fund benefits for the wealthiest among us. >> reporter: well, the house and senate really have to push a compromise in the next 30 days, by january 1 and really before they go on holiday break. but some lawmakers are working on a plan, a third plan. we'll see if that one works. back to you andrea. >> all right, thank you surae chinn reporting live this morning. one thing congress can agree on -- sanctions for iran. the senate approved tough new sanctions on iran's central bank. the vote was unanimous and it was part of a defense spending bill. lawmakers are concerned about iran's nuclear ambitions. earlier this week, hard line iranian students stormed the british bayssy in tehran burning uk and u.s. flags. the suspect police say was behind a one woman crime spree admittings to at least some of

the charges. court documents show stephanie squab admits to a car -- squab admits to a carjacking and a bank robbery last month in springfield. the former ms 13 member is accused in at least two other robberies and one more carjacking. she was arrested wednesday after a chase from virginia into maryland. the montgomery county counsel is saying no to a curfew law. the public safety committee rejected the plan yesterday. county councilman phil andrews voted against it despite the chief and county executive sporting a curfew. he explained his position last night on 9news now at 7:00. >> the chief is a great chief and he's doing a great job representing the county executive's viewpoint. if he had a different viewpoint we wouldn't know it but the fraternal order of police has opposed it because they think you should target enforcement from the problems are. the ptas and the general public. they have not been able to sell this idea and studies of

curfews show they don't have that much impact. >> there will be a vote next week officially. just 22 shopping days left until christmas and a big sign of the season is now on display. >> the first family lit the national christmas tree last night on the ellipse. >> three, two, one! morning upper 20s and here in washington 35 right at reagan national. clear skies. calm winds. so windchills not a factor this morning and that dew point right at 30 degrees. lots of cold in the central and southwestern part of the country. denver is 12 right now. some snow's been flying there with the tremendous storm in the southwest brought damaging santa ana winds to california yesterday. rain and snow in arizona this morning. even in steam boat they had winds gusting over 100 miles per hour doing some damage there yesterday. the front coming through the great lakes and areas of ontario will slide through us during the afternoon. that will bring us a slight cooldown for saturday but all in all we look pretty good through sunday and monday right now. today, 56. winds turn northwest this afternoon 5 to 10 miles an hour. tonight we're dropping down into the 20s and 30s once again. a chilly saturday with highs around 50 but the sun will be out. sunday milder and upper 50s. so a really good finish to the weekend. skins are home sunday against the jets, weather shouldn't be

>> rebecca is wearing a properly fitted bra. you'll notice the band is actually carrying 80% to90% of the support of her breasts and that's what you want. if she were to turnarounds you would see the band is actually horizontal across her back. it's going to be anchored in the narrowest part of her back. >> you were saying before her bra fitting she didn't feel like she looked that great. that it really was serving her needs. >> she didn't. she came in and she was wearing a bra that was too loose in the band and so what was happening was it's kind of like a seesaw as the band goes up, your breasts come down. and nobody wants that. so what we did was we sort of brought her back up the center and that's what the band will do for you. >> how did you write this book? how did you get into this issue? >> you know it actually started with my own journey. i was one of the people who could never find a bra that fit and it made me feel bad about myself. and it may seem a little bit overblown to say it changed my
