coach jerry sandusky is in jail tonight on 12 new charges of child sex abuse. police arrested him at his home in afternoon. prosecutors filed the new charges after two new accusers showed up and testified that sandusky had abused or molested them. now he faces 52 child sex abuse charges. a judge set the bail at $250,000 in cash. sandusky not able to do that. but they have ordered him under -- the u.s. attorney's office in the meantime will not be pressing charges in patrick casey's death. the grad student and army veteran died in september after a fight outside a mcdonald's on m street. police initially thought that casey was trying to stop the fight but later on the story changed. police say they believe he might have started it. the washington reports police will rule casey's death a just final homicide by citizen and the case will be closed.

roads in downtown dc finally back to normal after an all out gridlock down along k street. it was created by thousands of protestors targeting firms. >> reporter: i'm delia gongalves with the latest. from capitol tax partners on constitution to john's lobbying firm, protestors blanketed dc. two different groups, one message. end corporate greed and bring jobs back to the people. >> it's note in favor of the people. >> we want to work. there is no good jobs out here for dc residents, especially ward eight. >> reporter: the group occupy dc. and union reps and employees from across the area rallying. today united to occupy k street

sending a message to lawmakers even if that meant arrest. >> one and five americans cannot find full-time work right now. and we have a crisis going on in our country. we're here to amplify their voices. well, tim allen and george cain holding nothing back. the two former governors are running for the seat being vacated by senator jim webb and both stood their ground on taxes and raising debt. even makaka came up. >> reporter: the makaka incident --. >> let's give a hello to makaka. >> when he singled out a young man and said welcome to america, welcome to the real virginia, there was no mistake about what those words meant. >> it was a mistake. i never should have singled out that young man.

after this mess, that eight years of obama will truly make the country dramatically more difficult and have dramatically greater problem. >> the gop candidates will continue their push for support with another debate in saturday -- this saturday in iowa. that state kicks off its primary season in january. 14 years in prison. that is the sentence for rod blagojevich, the former governor of illinois. he was convicted on charges of corruption, including his efforts to sell president obama's old senate seat. moments before today's sentencing blagojevich addressed the judge and he apologized for what he called his own stupidity. he is letting blagojevich spend the holiday with his family. he will have to report in the middle of january. meanwhile jackson is saying perhaps race played a role in his seven year sentence issued yesterday, but one law professor says they're just wrong. here is the way the debate played out with our supporters

scott broom today. >> what generally happens to african-americans versus non-african-americans. >> reporter: you think he was treated far more harshly. >> than he should have been. than he should have been. >> there are racial disparities in criminal justice, especially with regard to drug crimes. but here i don't think mr. johnson has much of a case. he was caught red handed on fbi videotape saying and doing things that are clearly against the law. the judge could have sentenced him to 14 years in prison, but the sentence is actually relatively lenient. he gets seven years and $100,000 fine. that doesn't sound like racial discrimination. >> reporter: johnson's wife lesli is scheduld for sentencing on friday. she faces up to 18 months in prison. >> so do you think the judge came down too hard on jack johnson because of his race or did he make a fair ruling

a moment of silence in honolulu this morning at the

precise moment of the attack on pearl harbor. it was 70 years ago today the japanese plane bombed the u.s. ship. a day the u.s. would live in infamy. the impact cannot be measured in just one day. december 7th lives in infamy, but the entire month of december 1941 is the subject of a new book from arthur craig shirley. it's called december 1941, 31 days that changed american and saved the world. and craig joindz joins us here -- joins us here to talk about the book. you want to give us a sense of the day and the day-to-day events as they unfolded. but i was struck on how much it reminds me of 9/11. >> there were similarities as we had a lot of pieces. even if you put all of the peetss of the puzzle -- pieces of the puzzle together, i don't

think it would have added up to the knowledge of the precise attack. there was still a lot of missing pieces to the puzzle. so president bush was as much in the dark as franklin roosevelt was about the impending attack. >> this country paid a terrible cost in the war, but the war revived a dying wandering and meandering america. >> yes. >> it made me say that you are almost saying it's a good thing. >> i think it was a good in some ways. i think it was good for the people behind the iron curtain because we become an internationalist power. before december 7th, 1941, we were an isolationist power. everything changes. we rebuild europe. we rebuild japan after world war ii. we put military bases around the world. we become the global leader in the fight against soviet communism, which results in the

veenlt destruction. >> -- eventual destruction. >> right. we had national goals before. the creation of the constitution in the country manifest, destiny, the opening up of the the west. those had all been national goals. by 1941, we had no national goal because we were still staggering through the great depression. the war gives america a new purpose. >> now, as you read through this book and you do get a sense of sort of how different it was in 1941. >> right. >> you say we were a whole different country? >> yes. >> even though there was unity after 9/11, it can't be compared to december 7th. >> december 7th stands as a singular event because even july 14th, 1776, we're a divided country. benjamin franklin's own son was i am prisoned. we're obviously divided at the beginning of the civil war because it was about the division of the country. the entry into world war i we're divided. 50 members of congress voted against division of the country.

even after september 11th we became divided quickly. only in world war ii we completely united and stay united for three years and eight months. >> wow. what do you want folks to take away? >> i hope they buy a lot of them. >> what do you want them to know? >> history. the great historian, those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it and we need to study our own history so we know more about ourselves but also know about future problems that we might confront. >> all right. craig shirley. his book is called december 1941. very appropriate to see on the anniversary. >> thank you. well, again, this is the anniversary of the attack on pearl harbor and the school where the first daughters eat their lunch and get education served with items that may be considered japanese. some say they're chinese and some folks have left a lot of comments saying the menu is

per hour. it's going to continue for two or three hours. the good news, it's moving out pretty quickly. flooding is occurring in most of the metro area in the light green, and that will continue for the next several hours. a lot of rivers are running high, a lot of ponding on the road. we talked about that. if you're loved one isn't home yet, make sure they take it easy. look at the rainfall so far dulles airport one and a third. that is good enough for a daily rainfall record. almost two at national. that's almost a record. look at baden. three and a quarter inches. bwi and dunkirk 3.4 inches. loudoun county north and west, i really don't think it's going to be a huge deal in montgomery county or even most of loudoun county. changeover time hagerstown 9:00 goes to snow. but i think the duration will only last about three hours. in frederick it goes to snow about ten. the duration only about two hours.

if it goes to snow in rockville, it will be around 11:00, the duration will be an hour and quite possibly less than that because the storm pulls out as the cold air gets here. no changeover south and east of town and east of 95. you can see the white, though. that's the snow moving eastward. but look at all of the moisture still down to the south. there is even a severe thunderstorm watch just kind of touching extreme southern part of the delmarva. very dynamic system here. 48 downtown now. 45 in gaithersburg. 45 in frederick. now we're in the 30s up towards hagerstown, martinsburg and winchester. you folks will have a couple of inches before all of a sudden it's said and done west of i81. evening commute still a mess. flood warnings until 8:00. rain to snow briefly north and west. the good news, if there is any on this, thursday's commute will be fine. partly cloudy and just cold. here is our future cast. 11:00 tonight the changeover now is into central montgomery county around clarksburg and still raining south of town. in an hour, look what happens.

it goes up into howard county to baltimore and another hour it's gone. this may be a little over done. but you kind of make the point this is not going to stick around long. when the cold air gets here, we're not going to have much snow. rain to snow north and west of i95. the changeover 9:00 p.m. to about 1:00 a.m. next seven days, we're in pretty good shape tomorrow. returning partly cloudy, 45. near 50 on friday. clouds come in. another cold front comes through. this is going to be dry. but it will set the stage for a rather chilly weekend. in fact, only in the low 40s on saturday. if you're planning ongoing to the army-navy game, bundle up. fedex is also right here on channel nine. a little better for the redskins game, upper 40s. and then we're kind of tick willing 50s monday, tuesday and wednesday next week. >> nice. >>. we'll be back in a couple of minutes. -dad, why are you getting that? -that's my cereal.
