threat with this storm would be rain and the flood warnings have been extended until the wee hours of the morning. let's start with live doppler 9,000. notice the counties highlighted in light green, those are flood warnings and again, they're going to go until midnight, 1:00, 2:00 in the morning and it can flood after the rains have ended. the good news is the real heavy rain as you mentioned up to the north near baltimore and that is pushing away up 95 and a little bit of snow but really never really a problem here in the metro area. these are the warnings now in light green and still a watch. the watch continues until 3:00 a.m. and they actually extended the flash flood, the flood watch. look at the temperatures, 38 downtown, 37 in fredrick, you jump the divide and 27 in oakland, they had the bullseye and we talked about four to eight inches of snow, they've have had about six and a half inches of snow so here is the good news. good news for wake up weather,

outside a local high school as she tried to breakup a fight. it happened last night outside northwood high in silver spring where fans have been watching a basketball game. police say it seems girls from kennedy high got into an argument with girls from montgomery blair. a 17 year old blair student tried to calm things down but she got stabbed. now she is boeing to be okay. police are now looking for two kennedy students, neither of whom showed up at school today. that stabbing just the latest violent crime in our area allegedly committed by young women. over the past nine months there have been several high profile murders involving women. we sent matt jablow to find out if there's something behind this apparent trend. >> she got stabbed by an unknown female. >> there was a time when a young woman assaulting another young woman was rare. >> crazy. >> that time seems to be long gone, especially around the washington area. as you just said a 17 year old female high school student was stabbed last night by another female student outside northwood high school. >> we all went outback and seen
1:40 am
the girls getting into it. >> the stabbing took place nine months after jana murray was murdered by britney norwood in the lulualso lemon store, three months after dominique frazer a student was allegedly stabbed to death by her female roommate and one month after courtney mccoy, a student at frostburg state was allegedly stabbed to death by another female student. >> women have more muscle. we're all working out in the gym. >> the recent female violence in the d.c. area seems to reflect a 10 year nationwide trend. according to the fbi, between 2001-2010, the total number of men arrested went down nearly 7% in the u.s. while the total number of women arrested went up more than 10%. bonnie morris is a women's studies professor at georgetown university. she believes the increasing per

of female criminals is the negative side of women taking on more traditionally male roles. >> we've channeled female aggression into healthy profitable professional roles, but where you don't have access to that level, you also have girls simply taking aggression to the streets. >> while violent crimes committed by women were up nationwide over the last 10 years, a bigger increase was seen in property crimes like burglaries committed by women, which went up more than 25%. anita? >> thank you, matt. occupy d.c. protesters occupied some d.c. streets today. demonstrators targeted some of those big street lobbying firms, so traffic on and around k a total mess, especially when you factor in the rain as well. lots of commuters got caught in the middle. they were not amused. neither were police. they arrested more than 60 people. some supporters of jack johnson say race played a role in his long prison sentence. johnson is the former prince georges county executive who got caught in the bribery scheme.
1:42 am
a just yesterday sentenced him to seven years behind bars and some supporters say white maryland politicians caught up in corruption cases have received much lighter sentences. for example, former governor marvin mandell 13 months and prosecutors say it's "nonsense" that race played any role in the johnson case. well, it is not against the law. it's not even against policy, but is using your personal e- mail and cell phone to conduct city, county or federal government business okay? does it make a difference if you're doing it to avoid having the information made public? those questions tonight after d.c.'s cities chief financial officer admitted in a deposition that he had used his personal e-mail regularly to avoid having his correspondence included in the freedom of information requests from the media and public. the d.c. attorney general says while it is not a crime, it is not a good policy to follow. >> and it doesn't have the effect of avoiding disclosure under freedom of information act or in litigation.
1:43 am
>> dorothy brazil, executive director of d.c. watch says some city staff have gone to private cell phones and personal e-mails to avoid the several federal probes the council members and the mayor. tonight former penn state assistant coach jerry sandusky is in jail on 12 new charges of child sex abuse. the latest victims to accuse the 67 year old say they met him through his second mile charity. sandusky was first charged november fifth and he acknowledged showering and horsing around with the boys but says he never sexually abused them. he now faces more than 50 counts including abuse alleged to have occurred on the penn state campus. sandusky is being held on $250,000 bail. in tonights health alert, plan b emergency contrectation not going out on the drug store shelves and a surprise move. health and human services secretary overruled the fda, a plan that would have allowed the so-called morning after pill to be sold out there over- the-counter to all women.
1:44 am
instead, teenagers under 17 still need a prescription to buy it. the pill can prevent pregnancy if taken within three days after unprotected sex. the move disappoints women's health advocates while conservatives are applauding it. >> we think that removing that necessary medical screening and that interaction with the medical professional is not in the interest of young women's health. >> as an obgyn and a father of a daughter i fund this decision to be, i'm really mind boggling. it makes no sense whatsoever. >> the drug is safe and effective though she's concerned younger girls may not understand how to use it and should get a doctors advice. plan b contains a higher dose of the hormone that's been widely used in regular birth control for decades. still ahead tonight, a local holiday tradition unlike any other. it's merry tuba christmas, 300 at the kennedy center. plus it was one of our nations darkest days claiming the lives

late breaking news now. out of montgomery county where emergency crews are working on the scene of an explosion.
1:48 am
it happened in garret park in the 4400 block of cambria avenue and that's where ken molestina joins us live. >> reporter: well still a very active scene over here, as you said let's go ahead and roll video of what it looks like just down the street where this all happened apparently. the call went out for a home on fire. when fire crews got here there was evidence there was some sort of an explosion. we're still working to get that confirmed. also we're working to get confirmed some preliminary reports that went out in dispatch suggesting there may have been some sort of a fatality involved in this, but again, definitely a fire here. there are still tons of crews, fire crews on the scene and i also saw some explosion investigators that are here on the scene but again this is the 4400 block of cambria, a very active investigation right now as well as a fire suppression effort on the part of firefighters out here. we'll stay on top of this and bring you the latest details as we get those. back to you guys. >> ken, thank you so much. today marked the 70th

anniversary of the attack on pearl harbor. veterans and their families came together at the memorial on the island of oahu in hawaii to remember those lost in 1941. 2400 americans died in that one attack, that one day. for those who were there, pearl harbor can never be forgotten. >> you couldn't see the ships because of all of the smoke. i'll tell the story until the rest of my life. >> memories are being kept alive by those storytellers but survivors at local clubs and schools are dwindling and passing away. the pearl harbor survivors association is disbanning at the end of the 70th year. there aren't enough survivors to keep it going. unexpected controversy on this pearl harbor anniversary as it was reported that the school where the president's daughters attend serves asian food for lunch today. the debate over whether that means it was unpatriotic practically took over our facebook page today and like
1:50 am
the rest of us, derek was left shellshocked and trying to figure this out. derek? >> well first of all anita this was not about the food. at least not exactly. it's really all about what we pay honor to. you see to some americans, asian food day at cidwell sounds like specifically the same people who spauned the pearl harbor attack held on the very same day we remember the americans who died there. it's all emotional stuff. you don't have to agree to understand it but still the absolute rage and name calling from some of you was frankly way over the top but not only that this thing degenerated into raw politics like some of you just couldn't wait to go after each other and i don't believe that comes from a place of strength folks or love of country. rather i think it stems from fear. fear that things won't improve around here no matter who wins the next election and fear that maybe we, maybe we're not who we used to be. you know, they tell us right after pearl harbor, america was united. don't you know there's a war on
1:51 am
people used to say? back then we knew exactly who our enemy was. now days we are not so sure but i'm willing to get it is not that lady or that fellow on facebook even if heavy forbid they pick today to dine on sushi. anita? >> think we could use some unit, thank you, derek. how hard is it to get 300 tuba players to play at exactly the same time? our gary nurenberg was among the big crowd at the kennedy center tonight to find out. >> reporter: the 38 tuba christmas concert celebrates an instrument that wasn't even invented until 1850 when they figured out how to use valve. >> sounds like a bassoon player. it has a very mellow woody sound. it's difficult to play in tune because the holes are in the wrong place than where your

make shanahan said he's obviously disappointed but pulling for both guys to learn from this and when asked about their future, shanahan said the guys will have to prove themselves worthy, time will tell. some of the players say they accept the apology despite feeling let down by their teammates. >> just to hear from those guys, you know address the team obviously is a good sign. they want to be here. they want us to kind of understand but at the same type, like i said it's different. >> it's disappointing he said. the terps back home facing mount st. mary's and the 15 point lead and terps down in the fourth but the next possession, stogland hits the jumper again to increase the lead and terps survive the upset beating mount st. maries 77-74. >> look at this guy, gary williams taking in some gw loyola basketball, trying to keep gw in it with one of four dunks on the night finishing
