savings for most american families. the tax cut is set to expire january 1st. more than 60 people with the occupy d.c. movement were arrested during a demonstration in the middle of k street. demonstrators say they were targeting some of those big k street lobbying firms. traffic on and around k was a mess for several hours yesterday. a number of commuters got caught in the middle. a 17-year-old girl is charged with attempted murder. after a stabbing wednesday night in silver spring. briana fumes stabbed a 17-year- old montgomery blair high school student several times in the back. the whole thing took place when a fight broke out after a basketball game at northwood high school. the victim is expected to recover. hughes will be tried as an adult. investigators are searching for the cause of a basement fire in the garrett park section of montgomery county which started about 10:00 last night at a home in the 4400 block of cam pria avenue. no one was injured in this.

former penn state assistant jerry sandusky arrested on more child sex abuse charges. >> these come from two new accusers as victims number nine and ten. ines ferre has more. >> reporter: 67-year-old jerry sandusky was led away from his home in handcuffs wearing a penn state tracksuit. he was slapped with new charges from two new accusers. sandusky's attorney said if had been notified, his client would have turned himself in. >> if this is the way the case is going to be handled by the other side, we can do things to make it miserable, too. >> he was first charged on november 5th. he has acknowledged showering and playing around with boys but said he never sexually abused them. he faces more than 50 counts including abuse that is alleged to have occurred on the penn state campus. sandusky is behind bars here in pennsylvania, held on $250,000

bail. prosecutors were pushing for $1 million. the new accusers told a grand jury they met sandusky through his second mile charity. victim nine said he was repeatedly abused in a basement bedroom in sandusky's home. he testified that at least once, he screamed for help knowing that sandusky's wife was upstairs but no one ever came to help him. if sandusky does make bail, he will be under house arrest and subject to electronic monitoring. ines ferre for cbs news, bellefonte, pennsylvania. >> sandusky would be supervised from any contact with minors. prosecutors cannot bring charges against a former syracuse university basketball coach of sex abuse. two former ball boys say bernie fine sexually molested them when they were teenagers but the crimes happened too long ago for fine to be charged in those cases. the d.a.'s office is also angry that an audiotape, one of the

accusers recorded years doesn't with his wife never were brought to the proper authorities. on tape, fine's wife acknowledged her husband's alleged sexual abuse when she was speaking with hundred of his accusers. the university fired fine last month after the 2002 tape surfaced, fine is still denying the allegations. after 30 years of legal battles, the philadelphia district attorney says his office will no longer pursue the death penalty against jamal. the former black panther was convicted of killing a white philadelphia police officer in 1981. he was originally sentenced to death but a federal appeals court ordered a new sentencing hearing after deciding the jury in the trial received incorrect instructions. abu jamal instead will serve a life sentence. rob building blagojevich is headed to prison for 14 years. he said he was sorry. he was convicted of trying to sell president obama's old

senate seat and a long list of other corruption charges. blagojevich starts his prison term february 16th. questions are being raised after a d.c. city official admitted to using his personal e-mail for work to avoid having his e-mails become public record. chief financial officer ghandi admitted in a deposition he does this to avoid including his e-mail in freedom of information requests from the media and the public. the d.c. attorney general says while it is not a crime, it is not good policy to follow. >> it doesn't have the effect of avoiding disclosure under freedom of information act or in litigation. dorothy brazil, executive director of d.c. says some city staffers have gone to private cell phones and personal e- mails to avoid the several federal probes of council members and the mayor. lightning fast internet access in d.c. will be up and running in a little over a year. the nation's first 100 gig ga

still not too late to land a holiday travel deal if you're flexible. experts suggest flying at least four days before or on the actual holiday to get the best prices and consider using nearby airports outside of the city center. connecting flights are cheaper than nonstops and pack light, of course, to avoid the baggage fees. jcpenney is buying a minority stake in martha stewart living omnimedia for $39 million. this move includes plans to create mini martha stewart shops within its department stores and a joint web site. martha stewart currently has a product line at macy's. the department store says it is now rethinking that agreement. similar credit card agreements could be on the way. the consumer financial protection bureau is test an agreement that is said to be written in plain language. about 2/3 of credit card users said they don't completely understand their card's terms. this could deal with things like, for example, you have a higher interest rate if you do

pax river, 51 miles per hour. gusts down in southern maryland at a 56-mile-per-hour gust. in flint, in frederick county. even in washington, reagan national had 39-mile-per-hour gusts. main the bigger story was the rain. record setting rain, 3.1 inches, not just the record for the date. that was the wettest december day they've recorded. you take like even snow and melt it down. three inches of rain, water in december, that is prolific. that's what we had yesterday. our records go back to the 1870s. this morning, we're looking at clear skies. winds still gusting to near 30 at this hour. they'll be out of the west and northwest today. 10 to 20 this morning. probably in the 5 to 10 range this afternoon with temperatures only in the mid- 40s. after the lunch hour, the winds will be a lot less. that will be much more comfortable. you'll need jackets with highs in the mid-40s. yesterday, we had the area of rain come through. there was a little bit, just a little bit of snow here on the back side of it.

in a surprise move, health and humans services kath even sebelius overruled an fda plan that would have allowed plan b contraception to be sold over the counter to younger women. teenagers under 17 will still need a prescription to buy it. the move disappoints women's health advocates. >> as an ob/gyn, i find this decision to be mind-boggling. it makes no sense whatsoever. >> the pill can prevent pregnancy if taken within three days after unprotected sex. sebelius, a president obama appointee says the drug is safe and effective but is concerned younger girls may not understand how it use it. others applaud the decision. >> we think that removing that necessary medical screening and that interaction with the medical professional is not in the interest of young women's health. >> the company that makes plan b had hoped it would be able to put the pills on store shelves.

treatment, specialists writing in the publication "heart" say the current treatment doesn't take into account the increased risk for cardiovascular disease. for every 1,000 men treated with drugs to suppress testosterone production, there will be an extra 315 case of heart disease. the authors say the two issues are managed separately with little coordination between doctors. there is a new study that finds multiple sclerosis may start in the brain's outer layers and progress into the deeper part of the brain rather than the other way around. the traditional understanding was the disease began in the white matter and then extended to the cortex. doctors from the mayo and cleveland clinics found the cortex may be the initial target for the autoimmune disease. it may lead to new treatments. thousands of nih workers will be on the move. the workers at the national institute of allergy and infectious diseases are moving to a new complex being built next to the twin brook metro station in rockville. there was a groundbreaking
