they say the cartoon is satire, not racism. on the group's web site, the cartoon is described as half black, half white and almost everything he does stinks. the local branch of the naacp called the cartoon a blatant statement of racism. here's a look at some of the other stories make news. manuel noriega is waking up in panama for the first time in more than two decades. the former dictator arrived from paris last night to begin serving three 20-year terms for murders committed during his rule. they forced noriega from power in 1989 and he spent more than 20 years in prison in the u.s. and france for money laundering and drug trafficking. a strike is intended to protest intention reform which were announced last week by the new prime minister in order to rescue the package to save italy from financial disaster. monti held talks sunday night

with union leaders after a labor leader said monti made only a generic commitment to look into their demand. a california state senator is calling for a boycott on lowe's home improvement stores after it pulled its advertising from the all american muslim. the tlc show follows several muslim families who live in dearborn, michigan. they received a complaint from an organization called the florida family organization. the group showed propaganda which represents a danger to traditional american values. california state senator called lowe's decision a bigoted, shameful decision. lowe's issued a statement apologizing for having managed to make some people unhappy. the controversy over holiday symbols at the court in hesburg, virginia is not going away. >> now an atheist display been will be going up soon adding

shopping for gifts in the fragile economy can also put people on edge and take a toll on couples. web site thenest.com found 69% of couples say they do plan a holiday budget together at the beginning of the season but 73% of women surveyed say they do the bulk of the shopping. 42% of women say they would like their spouse to lend more help during the holidays and couples who worked as a team deemed the most stress-free. >> they go out there with a certain mentality, this is what we're buying, this is how much we're spending. we're not going out shopping for ourselves so let's take that off the table. for right now, we're shopping for everyone on our list. >> when it comes to the list, one particular group seems to cause stress. >> couples have told us that stress comes primarily from the in-laws. >> 62% of women surveyed say their in-laws are the most difficult to shop for. so, perhaps men should shop for their relatives and women for theirs to take some of the

laytonsville is all the way down to 20 degrees along with reston. a very chilly, frosty morning out there. officially though, 32 with a dew point of 25. calm winds this morning. that barometer, look how high. 30.6. it is off in the southeastern u.s. look at all of the rain southern georgia, florida, coming out of areas in southeastern alabama. this is moving to the carolinas. in fact, in far western north carolina, there may be a little wintry mix in there. for us, we're going to see some of the high clouds streaming from that system. for a few hours, i think anyway this morning. then we'll watch everything move off toward the east. we don't have really much in the way of weather heading toward us. put our future cast in motion. i'll stop it at noon. we'll go through the afternoon hours. showers offshore. but around here, it is all quiet tonight into tuesday. you'll notice systems out across the midwest with some rain tuesday evening into wednesday morning headed toward chicago, a little bit of wintry weather up north of that. around here, we stay high and

telegraph road in alexandria. today and thursday, starting 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., the left lane of the inner loop will be closed between eisenhower avenue and telegraph road. we have all of this information also on our web site at wusa9.com. breast cancer patients can suffer from memory and concentration problems years after treatment. a new study from the american cancer society looks at the effect of chemotherapy and radiation on a patient's brain. they found both treatments can cause cognitive problems for up to three years. >> there could be a promising new treatment for people who suffer from a rare form of hemophilia. the condition called hemophilia b can cause excessive bleeding us it it doesn't clot. treatments can cost up to $300,000 a year. but london researchers tested a new green therapy and they found the one-time injection work and lasted for a year. the therapy costs about

$30,000. a new food safety warning for all of who you plan on doing any holiday baking. if you don't bake it first, that dough could send you to the hospital. anita brikman has more. >> we sometimes like the raw cookie dough even better. >> i love it until i get a stomachache. >> that could be the least of your woes. the season for disease control says eating raw cookie dough can cause serious illness. >> you shouldn't eat raw cookie dough regardless of what flavor or where you got it. >> the newest research is based on an e. coli outbreak two years ago which sent 35 people to the hospital. the bacteria causes fever and stomach pain and in the worst cases, it can lead to kidney failure. the cdc's investigation pointed to ready to bake prepointed cookie dough and led to a major recall. >> blows my mind. there's e. coli in cookie dough? >> if it is meant to be baked,
