really enjoying it. >> plus she's been accused most of her life since the age of three. now alarming new data says she's far from alone. this is 9news now. and we learned tonight sexual violence is worst than most of us ever thought. a new government study says nearly one in every five women you know will suffer rape or an attempted rape in her lifetime. >> and how seriously do we take that? some frat boys just circulated a questionnaire asking who would you like to rape? if there is any good news here, it is that more women are getting help. here is gary nurenberg. >> reporter: it started when sheefz three she was three. >> i was sexually molested by my stepfather for most of my childhood. >> reporter: and makes her wonder. >> who knows what i would have been like without having that past. >> reporter: a government study released wednesday concludes one or four women are beaten by their partners. nearly one in five a victim of a rape or attempted rape. >> we've learned that the assault is a lot more dramatic and traumatic than we have ever

thought. >> reporter: the dc rape crisis center . >> the survivor is a lot more affected by the trauma. that it affects their way of viewing the rest of their life, viewing the world, their issues of safety, their issue of trust, the ability to cope. >> reporter: a society when kids where a frat house circulated a questionnaire asking who would you like to rape. >> it's not really seen as a crime. it's not seen as a private relational issue. the same thing that happens with domestic violence. it happens in marital affairs. we shouldn't get involved and we're not addressing it. >> reporter: even as help for victims becomes more effective. >> i think i can see a clear difference and see myself before and after me going to get help, and i think i'm increasingly happy every day. like i think that if someone were to ask me what is the happiest point in my life, i would say right now. >> reporter: well, that's good to hear , but not all stories end that well. if you need help, there is say

parking center. none of the other figures were harmed or removed, but baby jesus was gone. >> it's pretty sad that we can't have a display for christmas. that is what christmas is all about. >> it's kind of messed up, but it is what it is. >> reporter: police say they do have a lead in this case and they're pointing to this tire mark calling it a crucial piece of evidence. investigators believe whoever did this drove their vehicle on to the sidewalk and loaded their vehicle and left. >> it's a felony. we are investigating it as we would any other active felony case. >> reporter: the figure was valued between 3 and $400 and because it had been stolen once before, police say it had been filled with cement to make it harder to take. although some are upset about the bold move, others think it's a prank. >> i think it's funny. it's a joke. it's not serious. it will probably get returned and it will have boobs on it or a bra or something. >> reporter: now, again, police say they do have a lead in this case. however, they are reaching out to the public asking anyone with information to give them a call. we're in fredericksburg, ken molestina, the news now.

an update now on the woman police say has been using places of worship as her personal piggy bank. over the last few weeks, police say a woman has been stealing from churches in northern virginia. but they now believe she's also responsible for hitting up churches across the river in maryland. ten churches have been robbed of their wallets, checkbook and keys. all of the robberies have taken place right in the middle of services. police are looking at surveillance videos in hope of finding a lead, but so far no arrests have been made. the verdict is guilty in the case of keith little. he is the suburban hospital maintenance worker who was accused of killing his boss in a hospital boiler room. little was convicted of first degree murder in the death of roosevelt brockington. he stabbed his boss more than 70 times on new year's day. little was upset about a schedule change and a poor performance review. imagine walking down the street midday when somebody comes up, grabs you from behind,

pulls you to the ground by your hair and then starts to drag you into a parking garage. it is what happened to one woman in northwest dc and she tells 9news she is alive tonight thanks to the quick actions of some good samaritans. this all happened yesterday outside a garage at 25th and m. her attacker was well dress and robbery didn't seem to be his motive. as she screamed for help, several people came running to the rescue. not only did they stop the attack, but they held the suspect until police could get there. >> you think that you watch all these shows and you know what to do when it happens, and i wish i did more. but all you can do is scream for help. >> i grabbed his hands and i guess i sort of kicked him in the head a little bit to try to knock him down. and another man grabbed his hand and pulled it behind his back. >> i think they're amazing and how often can you say someone literally saved your life. >> police arrested 20-year-old juan jiminez for that attack, and he's now charged with kid nang. for the second time this week, a man has died at the

hands of police. this incident happening in prince george's county. police got a call from a man in the 7600-block of valley park road in c pleasant and he said he was armed and suicidal when swat team officers arrived he stepped out of had his home, reportedly starting to wave his gun. several officers opened fire killing him. investigators are unsure if the gunman fired his weapon and how many times he was shot by police. the officers involved are on routine paid leave during the internal investigation. now to another story you'll only see on 9, for the last several years half a dozen people have been living in a small homeless village hidden in the woods in rockville. well, tonight they have to find another place to sleep after police raided the campsite. it was under the radar of law enforcement until police had to come and arrest a man accused of beating his girlfriend. so now everyone is being forced to leave. >> i don't feel it's correct to

have us suffer because one person did something wrong. >> the homeless village is located on a hill behind the uhaul center at randolph road and park lawn drive. police will be back there tomorrow morning with an inspector from the epa and representatives from the county's homeless outreach program. they're going to work to try and find everyone there some shelter. after that, they're going to condemn that property. tonight for the first time in history, the ceo for marriot does not share the family name. today dc hotel icon jw bill marriot handed over the reigns of his empire at $1.3 billion in net worth, he is one of the most generous men in washington. he started in the hospitality business as a soda guy at his restaurant that his father built. >> i learned what it was like to be on the other side of the aisle. i learned what it was like to work in the kitchen, how demanding it was. i loved it. i loved every minute of it.

>> the marriot promises to stay busy as chairman of the board and the company headquarters will remain in bethesda. and thanks to marriot, most major players in the hospitality business are in the dc area. 15 of them work in our region alone. unimaginable, an elevator crushes a woman to death trapping her body in between two floors. the freak happened in a new york city office building today. the 41-year-old executive was only partially in the elevator when her leg or foot somehow got caught and then the elevator suddenly shot straight up dragging the woman into the shaft and crushing her. two people were on the elevator at the time of the accident. now, they weren't hurt but were sent to the hospital for psychological trauma after what they saw. no word on what was causing the deadly malfunction to happen. i'm proud to finally say these two words, and i know your families agree. welcome home.

you have. they sweat, they cry, they have seizures, they throw up and other things. >> including labor and delivery of a baby. at the arlington campus of college of nursing, the high tech simulators used to train the students before they encounter real patients are real themselves. when they blink, it feels like they're watching you. >> some of the girls around here just kind of start getting jum pea, but it's pretty cool because you blink and he breathes. and he talks to you. >> nursing instructors actually control the responses of the simulator like stan and help students learn what to do in a medical crisis. >> good. >> it's a safe place to make a mistake, to try to think through the conditions or situations that confront the student. >> go ahead and push when you're ready. you're doing great. >> but the simulator can really rattle a student's nerves. her chart shows she's giving birth to her baby alone while

her husband is deployed overseas so she needs extra support. >> next to noel are actual monitors that they'll encounter as they monitor the contractions as they get stronger and stronger. >> finally she gets to the most painful part called transition. >> that's when the head is crowning. a lot of pressure at that point. >> ouch. >> and a lot of mothers will say i don't want to do this anymore. no, no, this is really short. >> this is a similar situation to what we've seen already where you have a mom who has been pushing and pushing and it's just taking a little longer. so you keep encouraging her and you keep helping her through it. >> all right. baby. >> okay. now we all know that's a very clean baby. hemorrhaging and that kind of thing, they actually do that. and one of the young women there said she felt after doing this with these simulators she was in an actual labor and delivery and got a trainer the head is crowning, it's time, and, in fact, she was right. >> very good. >> i would want someone to get help for me. >> you want them to know what they know when it's time. >> i just remember taking classes before the first one was born. you never take them for two and three. but the first one. [ laughing ] >> they said your wife is in labor. it will go on for a long time. ask her if she wants ice or play cards. >> did you do anything? >> yes, i did. >> you don't want to ask that. >> that did not go over well. >> i don't want to play cards. okay. it was just one of the tips in the class. [ laughing ] >> it's all good. all right. we're looking at a cold front tomorrow. it does not have a lot of punch with it. there is also that second system trying to sneak up here on friday night. first things first, temperature wise it's actually still pretty nice outside. the high was 50. it's only 45 now at national, so the clouds and the winds have shifted.

and so we're not looking at a very cold night at all. in fact, it's the first night in four nights in a row that national will not make it below freezing and probably the first night in six that dulles has not made it below freezing. 43 in leesburg. 45 up in frederick. here is the system. this is the same system that brought all of the snow to the southwest. and one thing that kind of, i don't know, just kind of jumped out of me, this is all rain. indianapolis, st. louis, chicago, even up into st. louis, there is no cold air anywhere. and most of this moisture will travel to our north. we're going to be kind of getting just some light activity as we get into tomorrow afternoon. so a dry morning commute it looks like. there's going to be some clouds around obviously but dry. showers for the pm commute. now that said, i don't think everyone will have a wet commute tomorrow. it's just not that well organized after a system quite frankly. pleasant but cooler on friday. and the weekend chilly but dry. really a nice mid december weekend. could see some clouds late friday night that may linger into saturday morning. that system passes to our south

and mr. bernstein will have an update on that tomorrow. clouds tomorrow morning. but notice there is no green blobs anywhere, so that is good. by 12:30 lunch time, maybe some showers. leesburg across the river up into frederick. but notice it's all light activity. and then we get into the evening hours. some showers across most of the metro area and everything is light. they move out of here very, very quickly. in fact, by 11:00 tomorrow, this time tomorrow night, clouds will be on their way out and showers pretty much over. some snow showers will appear in the mountains west of the divide. there is not much cold air behind the system for us. mostly cloudy, breezy, milder. we'll call it a one blanket night tonight. 36-42. winds out of the south at 10-15. that is going to keep us milder. tomorrow morning mostly cloudy, breezy, just cool. you'll need a light jacket. 30s and 40s. look at the winds now southwest at 10-20. that is a real mild wind. and by afternoon despite the shouz werz and the clouds, we're -- showers and the clouds, we're talking mid to upper 50s

tomorrow. 54-58 complements of the southwest wind at about 10-20 and a little on the gusty side. so highs tomorrow everybody should make it into the 50s. 57 in gaithersburg. 58 in arlington. 57 in college park. even out to sterling and reston and herndon, we're talking temperatures in the upper 50s. all right. we'll break it down for you. in the morning chilly start. 36-44 with clouds. 50s by noon. >> a couple of sprinkles around noon. better chance for showers by evening. temperatures still in the 50s. now, the next seven days, behind the system we're in good shape on friday. we're still around 50. some clouds friday night, early saturday. won't put any precip on there now. just some clouds early. for the most part the weekend is nice. partly cloudy, temperatures back into the mid 40s and the next system next week will get in here on wednesday and into thursday. temperatures -- or tuesday and wednesday rather. temperatures still upper 40s to around 50s. >> moderate indeed. >> moderate indeed. >> indeed. the terps take on a pretty big name tonight. >> yes.
