saw jerry sandusky sexually abuse a young boy in a penn state shower. manuel gallegus has the latest now from the courthouse in harrisburg, pennsylvania. >> reporter: mike mcqueary arrived to the courthouse to deliver damning testimony in the penn state scandal. the assistant coach told the court he saw jerry sandusky in what he called severely sexual acts in a shower. mcqueary said the boy was up against the wall facing the wall and jerry was directly behind him in a very, very, very close position. jerry's hands wrapped around his waist or midsection. mcqueary testified that he didn't realize at first what he was seeing. that it did feel shocking but he didn't stop it. the next day mcqueary told head coach joe paterno about the incident and made it clear what he saw was extremely sexual but

didn't use the terms sodomy or sexual assault. he told mcqueary sorry you had to see that and you've done the right thing, i know it's tough. mcqueary testified he later told penn state athletic director tim curley and senior vice president garyishments about the sexual en-- gary schultz about the sexual encounter he witnessed. curley and schultz are charged with perjury and face up to seven years in prison if convicted. manuel gallegus, cbs news, harrisburg, pennsylvania. >> sandusky will likely spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted. curley was placed on leave and schultz returned to retirement. our scott broom is in harrisburg, apartment for today's proceedings and -- pennsylvania for today's proceedings and he'll have the latest at 9news now at 5:00 p.m. the court-martial began today for army private bradley

manning. manning is accused of engineering the massive wikileaks release of classified documents. his court-martial is being held in fort meade, maryland. this morning the defense asked the military judge hearing the case to remove himself because military judge lieutenant almonzo also is a prosecuting attorney in the federal case against wikileaks. manning is accused of -- manning is accused of downloading classified documents on iraq and then handing them over to the website. he could face life in prison if convicted. authorities on the eastern shore of virginia are investigating how five people died in a trailer. sheriffs were called to a road in the county yesterday evening for a report of an attempted suicide. when deputies arrived, they found the five bodies. police are now trying to identify the victims. the bodies are at a medical examiner's office in norfolk.

a baby jesus figure that had been stolen from a fredericksburg park has now been found. and charges are pending against one suspect. the baby jesus figure was stolen from the central park shopping center tuesday night. police say the prime suspect is a 25-year-old spotsylvania county woman. they say she had uploaded a picture of the stolen figure on the facebook page. a citizen turned it over to police. big brother will soon be watching over high school students in fairfax county. late last night, the county school board approved the jus of indoor sur -- the use of indoor surveillance cameras in high schools. the vote was 8-4. in order to get the cameras high school principals must show community support. cameras can go in cafeterias, hallways and other gathering places. they cannot go in locker rooms, bathrooms or classrooms. cameras will not be mandated in

every schools. the cameras will cost $880,000 to install. lawmakers are close to a deal on one major piece of business but still struggling with another. leading lawmakers say they are about to close a deal on $1 trillion bill that funds the government for another year. the lawmakers do not pass the -- if lawmaker don't pass the full plan or another extension by friday night, most agencies would shut down leaving tens of thousands of government workers sitting at home without pay just before the holidays. both sides are determines to avoid that. >> this will mark for the second year in a row, that we will spend less money on the operation of our government. >> this is a lifeline to many struggling families. and it is a way to insert into our economy the spending power of 160 million families buying goods and services. >> while lawmakers have reached a compromise that will keep the

government running, they are still divided over another key piece of business. extending a popular tax cut. government workers and the rest of america can only sit on the sidelines and wait for congress to make their next move. surae chinn reports some say lawmakers are playing with their futures. >> they need to act right. they need to act on our behalf. >> reporter: eric works in the private sector, bill wilson a government employee. >> it's kinds of frustrating you know. we should be really able to get together and work a lot better together. >> reporter: both frustrated along with the rest of america waiting on congress all this time for only a temporary funding measure to get us through next september. >> i think it's a good thing that they finally come together. >> reporter: a deal to save 600,000 federal workers from a furlough tonight is one thing. but lawmakers still have to compromise on a payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits extension. with no deal eric can't stand

the prospect of his taxes gone up by as much as $1,000 next year. >> that is absurd. we cannot afford to have families who are already struggling continue to struggle. >> reporter: a compromise may be in the works but the damage is already done. the wrangling back and forth for months, threats of a government shutdown. it is no wonder why congress' approval rating is at an all time low. >> they're kind of cut off from the real world. >> until they learn to run private businesses, they have no business sitting inside jawing at each other and putting us at risk. >> reporter: on capitol hill. surae chinn, 9news now. >> congress has another important job that affects local workers. it involves metro transit benefits. without action, federal workers' benefits could go from $230 a month to $125 a month. metro says congress must act by wednesday. that's the deadline for employers to make changes to their workers' benefits.

d. c. mayor vincent gray wants to federal government to pick up the tab for the city's costs related to the occupy protests. the two encampments on mcfearson square and freedom plaza have cost the city more than $1.5 million since october. the district is routinely reimburses for costs incurred by protests, marchs and rallies. republican presidential candidates jump into the final weekend of campaigning before the holidays of last night they -- 408 days. last night -- holidays.

so. we're going to stick with this clouds into the ramp and even -- afternoon and evening. the moisture is holding back just a little bit. i would say you're in the clear until about 3:00 this afternoon then we will see some showers in towards the late night hours. day planner for today, well, we started out mild at midnight. those temperatures long gone. now that the front has moved on through. right now most of us are sitting in the 40s and we should top out in the region, maybe around 50 degrees is the projected high but some of the areas will stay in the upper 40s into the 2:00 and 3:00 hour then things really start to plummet. by 5:00 p.m. down to 46 degrees at reagan national airport. complete cloud cover by that point. the sun will be long gone and moisture moving on through about 6:00 or 7:00 that could impact our southern zones on the late evening commute but notice the winds have shifted behind that front. more northwesterly winds this hour, westerly winds later on in the afternoon and that's definitely going to keep things in the clear -- in the cool for

us. down into the 40s late night tonight so if you have those friday evening plans to get out and about, you may be do some socializing or even some shopping, have the jacket et with you for ins -- jacket with you for insulation. satellite and radar, the jet stream dipped down to the south. that's pulling in some gulf moisture up along the front which is going to stall just south of our metro area. it's going to pull some moisture in mainly for west virginia and for virginia but there's a possibility late in the day that some of that could touch the beltway and even on up to the district of columbia. take the umbrella. we can salt see it by looking at the dew point temperatures. the green down below is the moisture that's moved on and the drier air is now in place and it's going to stick with us through much of the weekend. here's the forecast so far and how we look. right now we're sitting into the 40s in and around the region. the cool 30s off to the west. we will continue to see some cool temperatures in forwards the afternoon with our humidity

levels very reasonable. dew points very dry but the winds are going to stick with us throughout the weekend. here's how we look for the national picture. much of the nation is very, very cool and that's going to continue for both saturday and sunday. i'm more concerned when we start to tap into some more moisture come sunday night. here's the futurecast forecast model and how it breaks down. from the 12:00 hour, not bad. cloud cover. little bit of moisture creeps on through later on today but into the afternoon, we're going to start to see things start to improve for us overnight tonight with some partial clearing and then into tomorrow we have a lot of cloud cover moving on through. and even with sunday as temperatures dip down toward the freezing mark, we have the opportunity for some snow flurries early on sunday morning. and in toward monday. lows tonight, right around that freezing mark. tomorrow's highs only into the middle range 40s and that's where we're going to stay throughout much of the weekend. here's the next three days and what they look like. 50 today for the high. only 40s for saturday and sunday and the seven day forecast, well, it features
