clemons surrendered around 4:30 this afternoon. police believe he shot edmond balmer injury and edward clapp and stole an suv to get away. that suv had a 2-year-old in it. kaiden was found unharmed. investigators don't believe he knew kaiden was in the car when he took it. a diplomatic encounter. today, kim jung un met -- they pay met to pay respects to kim jung il. now to iraq, a suicide bombing happened in baghdad during the morning rush hour at a checkpoint, leading to the heavily guarded interior ministry. police say the bomber actually got through a half dozen other

checkpoints before setting off explosives hidden in the car. gross is a u.s. government contractor who has been held in cuba for two years. he's accused of trying to undermine that government. cuba recently announced plans to release nearly 3,000 prisoners as an international goodwill gesture, but gross will not be among them. his supporters hope for a change of heart in havana. >> we believe that injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. so we stand in faith, in hope, in love and in peace that the government will have a heart and let allen gross go. >> the department says it's disappointed cuba is not releasing gross. an act that would improve relations between the two countries. the christmas holiday has come and gone with no sign of a blind man who vanished two weeks ago. his family hoped he would contact them somehow during the holiday, but it didn't happen.

police in charlotte, north carolina are looking into the case, because they think smith may have gotten off the train there on his way to birmingham, alabama. >> to the confusion, when they told him, evidently, he would have to wait and catch another train to go to birmingham. he said send me back to d.c. nowamtrak says they put him on a train back to d.c. we have heard nothing from him. >> smith has been totally blind since becoming the victim of a shooting in prince george's county a decade ago. he also suffers from bouts of depression. bars and restaurants near the verizon center are getting a late christmas gift. that is a game from the wizards. as kristin fisher reports, tonight, they're getting back to business as usual. >> reporter: i'm kristin fisher, live outside the verizon center for the first home game of the season for the washington wizards. >> we've missed the washington wizards, we're excited to see them play tonight. >> reporter: he is the general manager of the district chop

house and brewery. it's located just one block away from the wizards home court. >> we were hoping they would resolve this as quickly as possible, and come back. >> reporter: the five month long lockout was a brutal wait for all of the bars and restaurants near the verizon center. especially clyde's, which is literally next door. the wizards average nearly 16,000 fans per game last year. that's far below the league average, but still almost 700,000 people a season, parking, eating, and drinking at these bars and restaurants. >> there is definitely a noticeable spike when the wizards play next door. we're very excited to have it back. meantime, a chilly, and clear monday, but rain is on the way. annie, are the showers coming in tonight? >> we'll be okay tonight.

♪[ music ] now to a story on the price of getting around. if you drive less, you're gas costs should go down, right? apparently not the case. according to aaa, the average american household will have spent $4,155 on gas by the time 2011 is over. that's $840 more than last

year, despite driving fewer miles. data shows americans drove 244 billion miles this year. 3billion less than 2010. aaa mid-atlantic says this could get even worse. it predicts next year, regular unleaded will hit $4 a gallon by spring. one person in maryland won the powerball jackpot this weekend. we don't know much about the winner. he has yet to come forward publicly, but we do know he bought it at leslie's restaurant and cocktails. its owner called on saturday to confirm the numbers and confirm he is a winner. >> one of my employees talked to him. and said, i think you've got the ticket here. he said i'll be in in about two days to see you. i want everything to settle down a little bit.

and smaller, and smarter. >> rick santorum, ron paul, and michele bachmann also have big campaign stops in iowa this week as well. gingrich's lead over romney keeps getting narrower. 26% of republicans picked the former house speaker. 23% picked romney. the 3% margin is a sharp drop from earlier this month, when gingrich led by 15 points in the polls. change may be on the political horizon that could affect the upcoming presidential election in a big way. a recent u.s.a. today poll says 2.5 million americans have switched, or abandoned their political parties. breaking down all the numbers. >> reporter: on a gusty winter's day outside the white house. >> i think people have lost a lot of trust in pretty much anyone. >> reporter: the weather isn't the only chill in the air.

a recent poll suggests political winds are shifting too. >> people just want some decisions to be made. >> there are a lot of people suffering out of work. they don't care about democrat or republican, they just want answers. >> reporter: the numbers may be surprising. according to pollsters, 1.7 million people have left the department party since 2008. the same year dennis kucinich ran an unsuccessful bid for congress. >> i start to see the system, and the system is failing the american people right now. >> reporter: the eight swing states that have seen the biggest democrat disappearing act. colorado, florida, iowa, nevada, new hampshire, north carolina, and pennsylvania. >> i think the political state it is, everybody is scared about what's happening. >> people are searching for signs of improvement. >> mostly i blame the republicans. i think they're very much in

you can see some clouds moving in. but we're going to see partly cloudy conditions tonight. and it will be a fairly quiet night before things get a little more active for tomorrow. right now temperatures in arlington, 41 degrees. springfield, upper 30s. reston 34. manassas already below the freezing mark. we've got the rain on its way, then quiet after that. tonight, cold with clouds moving in. tuesday, locate your umbrella. a wintery mix slightly possible. wednesday, looking dry. but colder and breezy once again. here's a look at our future cast to show you what things are going to look like according to this model. at 7:00 tomorrow morning, you can see the clouds moving in, but no green on there, which means it be will dry for that commute. late morning, early afternoon, the showers start to arrive. it will be heavy at times. in the afternoon, we're looking at the yellows and the oranges

looking at moderate to heavy rainfall. i think up to an inch possible in some locations. flash flooding is a slight possibility. all of the ground is not as saturated. we had time in between the last system to not deal with as much of the water content in the soil. tuesday night i think the evening commute will be impacted as the storm pulls away. a slight chance again, we can see a little wintery mix west of the divide, as we can see a little bit of the accumulations are not going to be a major factor at all. tonight, becoming partly cloudy and cold. two blanket night lows getting down into the 30s. 30 manassas and 32 leesburg. showers possible, the farther west you are. temperatures in the 30s. afternoon looking to be cold and a wash out. it will be mild though. some of that raining about heavy at times. 46 to 51 degrees.

well, i love that hawaii 5- o music. instead of retreating from family other friends, trenton is using his position to motivate and advocate for people with disabilities. and now the glen park senior is being rewarded. >> it's not my fault. i was born this way. >> when he was 9, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. when he was so, he was diagnosed with an intellectual disability called aspbergers syndrome. >> there's very few kids in my school that know my disability, because as you know, my disabilities are hidden, since i'm slightly autistic, i find myself being slightly challenged when i'm having conversations with my peers. they'll just say, he's just a normal weird guy. he doesn't have any normal

disabilities. he's not in a wheelchair or anything. >> seizures are electrical surges in the brain. >> hip calls for hidden inspiration project. it gives back to kids in many ways. one of the main ways it does it is a scholarship that me and mom have been funding from our nonprofit organization. we give to people that normally won't get scholarships. those people that don't have the highest of gpa's, yet, they go through this with disabilities. i really wanted to go to engineering school, and become a biomedical engineer that specializes in prosthetics. when i got something in the mail from the university of pittsburgh, i'm like, what could they want? i open it up and they're giving me a full scholarship. that shows me there are some schools that really value what i do. >> the more we've found out that he's been different, the more he's able to bridge a gap
